DRB ⁹ Et Absalom se trouva en présence des serviteurs de David, et Absalom montait un mulet ; et le mulet entra sous les branches entrelacées d'un grand térébinthe ; et la tête d'Absalom* se prit dans le térébinthe, et il demeura suspendu** entre le ciel et la terre ; et le mulet qui était sous lui passa outre.

KJV ⁹ And Absalom met the servants of David. And Absalom rode upon a mule, and the mule went under the thick boughs of a great oak, and his head caught hold of the oak, and he was taken up between the heaven and the earth; and the mule that was under him went away.

LSG ⁹ Absalom se trouva en présence des gens de David. Il était monté sur un mulet. Le mulet pénétra sous les branches entrelacées d'un grand térébinthe, et la tête d'Absalom fut prise au térébinthe ; il demeura suspendu entre le ciel et la terre, et le mulet qui était sous lui passa outre.

DRB ¹⁰ Et un homme vit cela, et le rapporta à Joab, et dit : Voici, j'ai vu Absalom suspendu à un térébinthe.

DRB ¹¹ Et Joab dit à l'homme qui le lui rapportait : Et voici, tu l'as vu, et pourquoi ne l'as-tu pas abattu là par terre ? Et c'eût été à moi de te donner dix [pièces] d'argent et une ceinture.

KJV ¹¹ And Joab said unto the man that told him, And, behold, thou sawest him, and why didst thou not smite him there to the ground? and I would have given thee ten shekels of silver, and a girdle.

KJV ¹² And the man said unto Joab, Though I should receive a thousand shekels of silver in mine hand, yet would I not put forth mine hand against the king's son: for in our hearing the king charged thee and Abishai and Ittai, saying, Beware that none touch the young man Absalom.

LSG ¹² Mais cet homme dit à Joab: Quand je pèserais dans ma main mille sicles d'argent, je ne mettrais pas la main sur le fils du roi ; car nous avons entendu cet ordre que le roi t'a donné, à toi, à Abischaï et à Ittaï: Prenez garde chacun au jeune Absalom !

DRB ¹³ ou j'eusse agi perfidement contre ma vie, car rien* n'est caché au roi, et toi, tu aurais pris parti contre moi.

KJV ¹³ Otherwise I should have wrought falsehood against mine own life: for there is no matter hid from the king, and thou thyself wouldest have set thyself against me.

LSG ¹³ Et si j'eusse attenté perfidement à sa vie, rien n'aurait été caché au roi, et tu aurais été toi-même contre moi.

VULC ¹³ Sed etsi fecissem contra animam meam audacter, nequaquam hoc regem latere potuisset, et tu stares ex adverso ?

DRB ¹⁴ Et Joab dit : Je ne m'attarderai pas ainsi devant toi. Et il prit trois javelots dans sa main, et les enfonça dans le cœur d'Absalom, alors qu'il était encore vivant au milieu du térébinthe.

KJV ¹⁴ Then said Joab, I may not tarry thus with thee. And he took three darts in his hand, and thrust them through the heart of Absalom, while he was yet alive in the midst of the oak.

LSG ¹⁴ Joab dit: Je ne m'arrêterai pas auprès de toi ! Et il prit en main trois javelots, et les enfonça dans le coeur d'Absalom encore plein de vie au milieu du térébinthe.

DRB ¹⁵ Et dix jeunes hommes qui portaient les armes de Joab entourèrent et frappèrent Absalom, et le mirent à mort.

KJV ¹⁵ And ten young men that bare Joab's armour compassed about and smote Absalom, and slew him.

KJV ¹⁶ And Joab blew the trumpet, and the people returned from pursuing after Israel: for Joab held back the people.

KJV ¹⁷ And they took Absalom, and cast him into a great pit in the wood, and laid a very great heap of stones upon him: and all Israel fled every one to his tent.

DRB ¹⁸ Et Absalom avait pris et dressé pour lui, de son vivant, une stèle qui est dans la vallée du Roi ; car il disait : Je n'ai pas de fils pour rappeler la mémoire de mon nom. Et il appela la stèle de son nom ; et elle est appelée jusqu'à ce jour le monument d'Absalom.

KJV ¹⁸ Now Absalom in his lifetime had taken and reared up for himself a pillar, which is in the king's dale: for he said, I have no son to keep my name in remembrance: and he called the pillar after his own name: and it is called unto this day, Absalom's place.

LSG ¹⁸ De son vivant, Absalom s'était fait ériger un monument dans la vallée du roi ; car il disait: Je n'ai point de fils par qui le souvenir de mon nom puisse être conservé. Et il donna son propre nom au monument, qu'on appelle encore aujourd'hui monument d'Absalom.

VULC ¹⁸ Porro Absalom erexerat sibi, cum adhuc viveret, titulum qui est in Valle regis : dixerat enim : Non habeo filium, et hoc erit monimentum nominis mei. Vocavitque titulum nomine suo, et appellatur Manus Absalom, usque ad hanc diem.
