²⁴ Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: ²⁵ And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock. ²⁶ And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: ²⁷ And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it. ²⁸ And it came to pass, when Jesus had ended these sayings, the people were astonished at his doctrine: ²⁹ For he taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.

   ¹ When he was come down from the mountain, great multitudes followed him. ² And, behold, there came a leper and worshipped him, saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean. ³ And Jesus put forth his hand, and touched him, saying, I will; be thou clean. And immediately his leprosy was cleansed. ⁴ And Jesus saith unto him, See thou tell no man; but go thy way, shew thyself to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them.
   ⁵ And when Jesus was entered into Capernaum, there came unto him a centurion, beseeching him, ⁶ And saying, Lord, my servant lieth at home sick of the palsy, grievously tormented. ⁷ And Jesus saith unto him, I will come and heal him. ⁸ The centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof: but speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed. ⁹ For I am a man under authority, having soldiers under me: and I say to this man, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it. ¹⁰ When Jesus heard it, he marvelled, and said to them that followed, Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel. ¹¹ And I say unto you, That many shall come from the east and west, and shall sit down with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, in the kingdom of heaven. ¹² But the children of the kingdom shall be cast out into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. ¹³ And Jesus said unto the centurion, Go thy way; and as thou hast believed, so be it done unto thee. And his servant was healed in the selfsame hour.
   ¹⁴ And when Jesus was come into Peter's house, he saw his wife's mother laid, and sick of a fever. ¹⁵ And he touched her hand, and the fever left her: and she arose, and ministered unto them. ¹⁶ When the even was come, they brought unto him many that were possessed with devils: and he cast out the spirits with his word, and healed all that were sick: ¹⁷ That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, Himself took our infirmities, and bare our sicknesses.

²⁴ »C'est pourquoi, toute personne qui entend ces paroles que je dis et les met en pratique, je la comparerai à un homme prudent qui a construit sa maison sur le rocher. ²⁵ La pluie est tombée, les torrents sont venus, les vents ont soufflé et se sont déchaînés contre cette maison; elle ne s'est pas écroulée, parce qu'elle était fondée sur le rocher. ²⁶ Mais toute personne qui entend ces paroles que je dis et ne les met pas en pratique ressemblera à un fou qui a construit sa maison sur le sable. ²⁷ La pluie est tombée, les torrents sont venus, les vents ont soufflé et se sont abattus sur cette maison; elle s'est écroulée et sa ruine a été grande.»
²⁸ Quand Jésus eut fini de prononcer ces paroles, les foules restèrent frappées par son enseignement, ²⁹ car il enseignait avec autorité, et non comme leurs spécialistes de la loi.

Jésus plus fort que la nature et les démons

¹ Lorsque Jésus fut descendu de la montagne, une grande foule le suivit. ² Alors un lépreux s'approcha, se prosterna devant lui et dit: «Seigneur, si tu le veux, tu peux me rendre pur.»
³ Jésus tendit la main, le toucha et dit: «Je le veux, sois pur.»
Aussitôt il fut purifié de sa lèpre.
⁴ Puis Jésus lui dit: «Fais bien attention de n'en parler à personne, mais va te montrer au prêtre et présente l'offrande que Moïse a prescrite, afin que cela leur serve de témoignage.»
⁵ Alors que Jésus entrait dans Capernaüm, un officier romain l'aborda et le supplia ⁶ en disant: «Seigneur, mon serviteur est couché à la maison, atteint de paralysie, et il souffre beaucoup.»
⁷ Jésus lui dit: «J'irai et je le guérirai.»
⁸ L'officier répondit: «Seigneur, je ne suis pas digne que tu entres sous mon toit, mais dis seulement un mot et mon serviteur sera guéri. ⁹ En effet, moi aussi je suis un homme soumis à des supérieurs, j'ai des soldats sous mes ordres, et je dis à l'un: ‘Pars!' et il part, à un autre: ‘Viens!' et il vient, et à mon esclave: ‘Fais ceci!' et il le fait.»
¹⁰ Après l'avoir entendu, Jésus fut dans l'admiration, et il dit à ceux qui le suivaient: «Je vous le dis en vérité, même en Israël je n'ai pas trouvé une aussi grande foi. ¹¹ Or, je vous le déclare, beaucoup viendront de l'est et de l'ouest et seront à table avec Abraham, Isaac et Jacob dans le royaume des cieux. ¹² Mais ceux à qui le royaume était destiné seront jetés dans les ténèbres extérieures, où il y aura des pleurs et des grincements de dents.»
¹³ Puis Jésus dit à l'officier: «Vas-y [et] sois traité conformément à ta foi.»
Et au moment même le serviteur fut guéri.
¹⁴ Jésus se rendit ensuite à la maison de Pierre. Il vit la belle-mère de celui-ci couchée, avec de la fièvre. ¹⁵ Il lui toucha la main et la fièvre la quitta; puis elle se leva et le servit.
¹⁶ Le soir venu, on amena vers Jésus de nombreux démoniaques. Il chassa les esprits par sa parole et guérit tous les malades. ¹⁷ Ainsi s'accomplit ce que le prophète Esaïe avait annoncé: Il a pris nos faiblesses et il s'est chargé de nos maladies.
