BAN ¹ Et Balaam dit à Balak : Dresse-moi ici sept autels et prépare-moi ici sept taureaux et sept béliers.

KJV ¹ And Balaam said unto Balak, Build me here seven altars, and prepare me here seven oxen and seven rams.

BAN ² Et Balak fit ce qu'avait dit Balaam ; et Balak avec Balaam offrit un taureau et un bélier sur chaque autel.

KJV ² And Balak did as Balaam had spoken; and Balak and Balaam offered on every altar a bullock and a ram.

BAN ³ Et Balaam dit à Balak : Tiens-toi près de ton holocauste, et moi j'irai ; peut-être l'Eternel viendra-t-il à ma rencontre, et quoi qu'il me fasse voir, je t'en ferai part. Et il s'en alla sur un lieu découvert.

KJV ³ And Balaam said unto Balak, Stand by thy burnt offering, and I will go: peradventure the LORD will come to meet me: and whatsoever he sheweth me I will tell thee. And he went to an high place.

BAN ⁴ Et l'Eternel se présenta à Balaam et Balaam lui dit : J'ai arrangé les sept autels et j'ai offert un taureau et un bélier sur chaque autel.

KJV ⁴ And God met Balaam: and he said unto him, I have prepared seven altars, and I have offered upon every altar a bullock and a ram.

BAN ⁵ Et l'Eternel mit une parole dans la bouche de Balaam et lui dit : Retourne vers Balak et parle-lui ainsi.

KJV ⁵ And the LORD put a word in Balaam's mouth, and said, Return unto Balak, and thus thou shalt speak.

BAN ⁶ Et il retourna vers, lui et il le trouva qui se tenait près de son holocauste, lui et tous les princes de Moab.

KJV ⁶ And he returned unto him, and, lo, he stood by his burnt sacrifice, he, and all the princes of Moab.

BAN ⁷ Et il prononça son discours sentencieux et dit :

D'Aram Balak, m'a fait venir,
Le roi de Moab, des montagnes de l'orient.
Allons ! Maudis-moi Jacob !
Allons ! Courrouce-toi contre Israël !

KJV ⁷ And he took up his parable, and said, Balak the king of Moab hath brought me from Aram, out of the mountains of the east, saying, Come, curse me Jacob, and come, defy Israel.

BAN ⁸ Comment maudirai-je ? Dieu ne l'a pas maudit.
Comment me courroucerai-je ? L'Eternel n'est pas courroucé.

KJV ⁸ How shall I curse, whom God hath not cursed? or how shall I defy, whom the LORD hath not defied?

BAN ⁹ Car du sommet des rochers je le vois,
Du haut des collines je le considère.
Voyez ! c'est un peuple qui habite à part
Et qui ne se met pas au nombre des nations.

KJV ⁹ For from the top of the rocks I see him, and from the hills I behold him: lo, the people shall dwell alone, and shall not be reckoned among the nations.

BAN ¹⁰ Qui a compté la poussière de Jacob
Et dénombré le quart d'Israël ?
Que je meure de la mort des hommes droits
Et que mon avenir soit comme le leur !

KJV ¹⁰ Who can count the dust of Jacob, and the number of the fourth part of Israel? Let me die the death of the righteous, and let my last end be like his!

BAN ¹¹ Et Balak dit à Balaam : Que m'as-tu fait ? Je t'ai pris pour maudire mes ennemis, et voilà que tu n'as fait que bénir.

KJV ¹¹ And Balak said unto Balaam, What hast thou done unto me? I took thee to curse mine enemies, and, behold, thou hast blessed them altogether.

BAN ¹² Et il répondit : Ne dois-je pas prendre garde à ne dire que ce que l'Eternel met dans ma bouche ?

KJV ¹² And he answered and said, Must I not take heed to speak that which the LORD hath put in my mouth?
