Os 10:1-8 (King James)

   ¹ Israel is an empty vine, he bringeth forth fruit unto himself: according to the multitude of his fruit he hath increased the altars; according to the goodness of his land they have made goodly images. ² Their heart is divided; now shall they be found faulty: he shall break down their altars, he shall spoil their images. ³ For now they shall say, We have no king, because we feared not the LORD; what then should a king do to us? ⁴ They have spoken words, swearing falsely in making a covenant: thus judgment springeth up as hemlock in the furrows of the field. ⁵ The inhabitants of Samaria shall fear because of the calves of Bethaven: for the people thereof shall mourn over it, and the priests thereof that rejoiced on it, for the glory thereof, because it is departed from it. ⁶ It shall be also carried unto Assyria for a present to king Jareb: Ephraim shall receive shame, and Israel shall be ashamed of his own counsel. ⁷ As for Samaria, her king is cut off as the foam upon the water. ⁸ The high places also of Aven, the sin of Israel, shall be destroyed: the thorn and the thistle shall come up on their altars; and they shall say to the mountains, Cover us; and to the hills, Fall on us.

   ¹ Israël était une vigne féconde, Qui rendait beaucoup de fruits. Plus ses fruits étaient abondants, Plus il a multiplié les autels ; Plus son pays était prospère, Plus il a embelli les statues. ² Leur coeur est partagé: ils vont en porter la peine. L'Éternel renversera leurs autels, détruira leurs statues. ³ Et bientôt ils diront: Nous n'avons point de roi, Car nous n'avons pas craint l'Éternel ; Et le roi, que pourrait-il faire pour nous ? ⁴ Ils prononcent des paroles vaines, des serments faux, Lorsqu'ils concluent une alliance: Aussi le châtiment germera, comme une plante vénéneuse Dans les sillons des champs. ⁵ Les habitants de Samarie seront consternés au sujet des veaux de Beth Aven ; Le peuple mènera deuil sur l'idole, Et ses prêtres trembleront pour elle, Pour sa gloire, qui va disparaître du milieu d'eux. ⁶ Elle sera transportée en Assyrie, Pour servir de présent au roi Jareb. La confusion saisira Éphraïm, Et Israël aura honte de ses desseins. ⁷ C'est en fait de Samarie, de son roi, Comme de l'écume à la surface des eaux. ⁸ Les hauts lieux de Beth Aven, où Israël a péché, seront détruits ; L'épine et la ronce croîtront sur leurs autels. Ils diront aux montagnes: Couvrez-nous ! Et aux collines: Tombez sur nous !

fructus adæquatus est ei :
secundum multitudinem fructus sui multiplicavit altaria,
juxta ubertatem terræ suæ exuberavit simulacris.
   ² Divisum est cor eorum, nunc interibunt ;
ipse confringet simulacra eorum,
depopulabitur aras eorum.
   ³ Quia nunc dicent : Non est rex nobis,
non enim timemus Dominum ;
et rex quid faciet nobis ?
   ⁴ Loquimini verba visionis inutilis, et ferietis fœdus ;
et germinabit quasi amaritudo judicium super sulcos agri.
   ⁵ Vaccas Bethaven coluerunt habitatores Samariæ ;
quia luxit super eum populus ejus,
et æditui ejus super eum exsultaverunt
in gloria ejus, quia migravit ab eo.
   ⁶ Siquidem et ipse in Assur delatus est,
munus regi ultori.
Confusio Ephraim capiet,
et confundetur Israël in voluntate sua.
   ⁷ Transire fecit Samaria regem suum
quasi spumam super faciem aquæ.
   ⁸ Et disperdentur excelsa idoli, peccatum Israël ;
lappa et tribulus ascendet super aras eorum :
