¹ La reine de Saba, ayant appris la renommée de Salomon, au nom de Yahweh, vint pour l'éprouver par des énigmes. ² Elle vint à Jérusalem avec un équipage très considérable, des chameaux portant des aromates, de l'or en très grande quantité, et des pierres précieuses. Elle se rendit auprès de Salomon, et elle lui dit tout ce qu'elle avait dans le coeur. ³ Salomon répondit à toutes ses questions : il n'y eut rien qui restât caché au roi, sans qu'il pût répondre. ⁴ Quand la reine de Saba eut vu toute la sagesse de Salomon, et la maison qu'il avait bâtie, ⁵ et les mets de sa table, et les appartements de ses serviteurs, et les chambres et les vêtements de ses domestiques, ses échansons, et l'escalier par où il montait dans la maison de Yahweh, elle fut hors d'elle-même, ⁶ et elle dit au roi : « C'était donc vrai ce que j'ai appris dans mon pays de ce qui te concerne et de ta sagesse ! ⁷ Je n'en croyais pas le récit avant d'être venue et d'avoir vu de mes yeux, et voici qu'on ne m'en avait pas dit la moitié ! Tu surpasses en sagesse et en magnificence ce que la renommée m'avait fait connaître. ⁸ Heureux tes gens, heureux tes serviteurs, qui sont continuellement devant toi, qui entendent ta sagesse ! ⁹ Béni soit Yahweh, ton Dieu, qui s'est complu en toi et t'a placé sur le trône d'Israël ! C'est parce que Yahweh aime à jamais Israël, qu'il t'a établi roi pour que tu fasses droit et justice. » ¹⁰ Elle donna au roi cent vingt talents d'or, une grande quantité d'aromates et des pierres précieuses. Il ne vint plus jamais autant d'aromates que la reine de Saba en donna au roi Salomon. ¹¹ Les vaisseaux de Hiram, qui apportaient de l'or d'Ophir, amenèrent aussi d'Ophir une très grande quantité de bois de santal et des pierres précieuses. ¹² Le roi fit avec le bois de santal des balustrades pour la maison de Yahweh et pour la maison du roi, et des harpes et des lyres pour les chantres. Il ne vint plus de ce bois de santal, et on n'en a plus vu jusqu'à ce jour. ¹³ Le roi Salomon donna à la reine de Saba tout ce qu'elle désira, ce qu'elle demanda, sans parler des présents, en rapport avec la puissance d'un roi tel que Salomon. Puis elle s'en retourna et alla dans son pays, elle et ses serviteurs.

   ¹ And when the queen of Sheba heard of the fame of Solomon concerning the name of the LORD, she came to prove him with hard questions. ² And she came to Jerusalem with a very great train, with camels that bare spices, and very much gold, and precious stones: and when she was come to Solomon, she communed with him of all that was in her heart. ³ And Solomon told her all her questions: there was not any thing hid from the king, which he told her not. ⁴ And when the queen of Sheba had seen all Solomon's wisdom, and the house that he had built, ⁵ And the meat of his table, and the sitting of his servants, and the attendance of his ministers, and their apparel, and his cupbearers, and his ascent by which he went up unto the house of the LORD; there was no more spirit in her. ⁶ And she said to the king, It was a true report that I heard in mine own land of thy acts and of thy wisdom. ⁷ Howbeit I believed not the words, until I came, and mine eyes had seen it: and, behold, the half was not told me: thy wisdom and prosperity exceedeth the fame which I heard. ⁸ Happy are thy men, happy are these thy servants, which stand continually before thee, and that hear thy wisdom. ⁹ Blessed be the LORD thy God, which delighted in thee, to set thee on the throne of Israel: because the LORD loved Israel for ever, therefore made he thee king, to do judgment and justice. ¹⁰ And she gave the king an hundred and twenty talents of gold, and of spices very great store, and precious stones: there came no more such abundance of spices as these which the queen of Sheba gave to king Solomon. ¹¹ And the navy also of Hiram, that brought gold from Ophir, brought in from Ophir great plenty of almug trees, and precious stones. ¹² And the king made of the almug trees pillars for the house of the LORD, and for the king's house, harps also and psalteries for singers: there came no such almug trees, nor were seen unto this day. ¹³ And king Solomon gave unto the queen of Sheba all her desire, whatsoever she asked, beside that which Solomon gave her of his royal bounty. So she turned and went to her own country, she and her servants.

   ¹ Sed et regina Saba, audita fama Salomonis in nomine Domini, venit tentare eum in ænigmatibus.
   ² Et ingressa Jerusalem multo cum comitatu et divitiis, camelis portantibus aromata, et aurum infinitum nimis, et gemmas pretiosas, venit ad regem Salomonem, et locuta est ei universa quæ habebat in corde suo.
   ³ Et docuit eam Salomon omnia verba quæ proposuerat : non fuit sermo qui regem posset latere, et non responderet ei.
   ⁴ Videns autem regina Saba omnem sapientiam Salomonis, et domum quam ædificaverat,
   ⁵ et cibos mensæ ejus, et habitacula servorum, et ordines ministrantium, vestesque eorum, et pincernas, et holocausta quæ offerebat in domo Domini : non habebat ultra spiritum.
   ⁶ Dixitque ad regem : Verus est sermo quem audivi in terra mea
   ⁷ super sermonibus tuis, et super sapientia tua : et non credebam narrantibus mihi, donec ipsa veni, et vidi oculis meis, et probavi quod media pars mihi nuntiata non fuerit : major est sapientia et opera tua, quam rumor quem audivi.
   ⁸ Beati viri tui, et beati servi tui, qui stant coram te semper, et audiunt sapientiam tuam.
   ⁹ Sit Dominus Deus tuus benedictus, cui complacuisti, et posuit te super thronum Israël, eo quod dilexerit Dominus Israël in sempiternum, et constituit te regem ut faceres judicium et justitiam.
   ¹⁰ Dedit ergo regi centum viginti talenta auri, et aromata multa nimis, et gemmas pretiosas : non sunt allata ultra aromata tam multa, quam ea quæ dedit regina Saba regi Salomoni.
