¹ La vingt-troisième année de Joas, fils d'Ochozias, roi de Juda, Joachaz, fils de Jéhu, régna sur Israël, à Samarie ; il régna dix-sept ans. ² Il fit ce qui est mal aux yeux de Yahweh ; il imita les péchés de Jéroboam, fils de Nabat, qui avait fait pécher Israël, et il ne s'en détourna point. ³ La colère de Yahweh s'enflamma contre Israël, et il les livra entre les mains de Hazaël, roi de Syrie, et entre les mains de Benhadad, fils de Hazaël, tout le temps. ⁴ Joachaz implora Yahweh ; et Yahweh l'écouta, car il vit l'angoisse d'Israël, opprimé par le roi de Syrie. ⁵ Et Yahweh donna un libérateur à Israël ; soustraits à la puissance des Syriens, les enfants d'Israël habitèrent dans leurs tentes comme auparavant. ⁶ Mais ils ne se détournèrent point des péchés de la maison de Jéroboam, qui avait fait pécher Israël ; ils y marchèrent, et même l'aschérah resta debout à Samarie. ⁷ Car Yahweh ne laissa à Joachaz d'autre peuple armé, que cinquante cavaliers, dix chars et dix mille hommes de pied ; car le roi de Syrie les avait fait périr et les avait rendus semblables à la poussière qu'on foule aux pieds. ⁸ Le reste des actes de Joachaz, tout ce qu'il a fait, et ses exploits, cela n'est-il pas écrit dans le livre des Chroniques des rois d'Israël ? ⁹ Joachaz se coucha avec ses pères, et on l'enterra à Samarie ; et Joas, son fils, régna à sa place. ¹⁰ La trente-septième année de Joas, roi de Juda, Joas, fils de Joachaz, régna sur Israël, à Samarie ; il régna seize ans. ¹¹ Il fit ce qui est mal aux yeux de Yahweh ; il ne se détourna d'aucun des péchés de Jéroboam, fils de Nabat, qui avait fait pécher Israël ; il y marcha. ¹² Le reste des actes de Joas, tout ce qu'il a fait, ses exploits, et comment il combattait avec Amasias, cela n'est-il pas écrit dans le livre des Chroniques des rois d'Israël ? ¹³ Joas se coucha avec ses pères, et Jéroboam s'assit sur son trône ; et Joas fut enterré à Samarie avec les rois d'Israël. ¹⁴ Élisée souffrait de la maladie dont il mourut. Joas, roi d'Israël, descendit vers lui, et il pleura sur son visage, en disant : "Mon père ! Mon père ! Char d'Israël et ses cavaliers !" ¹⁵ Élisée lui dit : "Prends un arc et des flèches." Et il prit un arc et des flèches. ¹⁶ Et Élisée dit au roi d'Israël : "mets ta main sur l'arc." Quand il eut mis sa main sur l'arc, Élisée mit ses mains sur les mains du roi, ¹⁷ et dit : "ouvre la fenêtre du côté de l'orient ;" et il l'ouvrit. Élisée dit : "lance une flèche ;" et il lança une flèche. Élisée dit : "c'est une flèche de délivrance de la part de Yahweh, une flèche de délivrance contre les Syriens ! Tu battras les Syriens à Aphec jusqu'à leur extermination." ¹⁸ Élisée dit encore : "Prends les flèches." Et il les prit. Élisée dit au roi d'Israël : "frappe contre le sol." Il frappa le sol trois fois, et s'arrêta. ¹⁹ L'homme de Dieu s'irrita contre lui et dit : "il fallait frapper le sol cinq ou six fois ; alors tu aurais battu les Syriens jusqu'à leur extermination ; mais maintenant tu battras trois fois les Syriens." ²⁰ Élisée mourut, et on l'enterra. Les bandes de Moab pénétraient dans le pays quand revenait l'année nouvelle. ²¹ Comme on enterrait un homme, voici que l'on aperçut une de ces bandes, et l'on jeta l'homme dans le sépulcre d'Élisée. L'homme toucha les os d'Élisée, et il reprit vie, et se leva sur ses pieds. ²² Hazaël, roi de Syrie, avait opprimé Israël pendant toute la vie de Joachaz. ²³ Mais Yahweh leur fit miséricorde et eut compassion d'eux ; il se tourna vers eux, à cause de son alliance avec Abraham, Isaac et Jacob ; il ne voulut pas les détruire, et il ne les a pas rejetés de sa face jusqu'à présent. ²⁴ Hazaël, roi de Syrie, mourut, et Benhadad, son fils, régna à sa place. ²⁵ Joas, fils de Joachaz, reprit des mains de Benhadad, fils de Hazaël, les villes que Hazaël avait enlevées dans la guerre à Joachaz, son père. Joas le battit trois fois, et il recouvra les villes d'Israël.

¹ La deuxième année de Joas, fils de Joachaz, roi d'Israël, régna Amasias, fils de Joas, roi de Juda. ² Il avait vingt-cinq ans, lorsqu'il devint roi, et il régna vingt-neuf ans à Jérusalem. Sa mère s'appelait Joadan, de Jérusalem. ³ Il fit ce qui est droit aux yeux de Yahweh, non pas toutefois comme David, son père ; il se conduisit en tout comme avait Joas, son père. ⁴ Seulement les hauts lieux ne disparurent point ; le peuple continuait d'offrir des sacrifices et des parfums sur les hauts lieux. ⁵ Lorsque la royauté fut affermie dans sa main, il frappa ses serviteurs, qui avaient tué le roi, son père. ⁶ Mais il ne fit pas mourir les fils des meurtriers, selon ce qui est écrit dans le livre de la loi de Moïse, où Yahweh donne ce commandement : "les pères ne seront pas mis à mort pour les enfants, et les enfants ne seront pas mis à mort pour les pères ; mais on fera mourir chacun pour son péché." ⁷ Il battit dix mille Édomites dans la vallée du Sel, et il prit d'assaut Séla, et lui donna le nom de Jectéhel, qu'elle a conservé jusqu'à ce jour. ⁸ Alors Amasias envoya des messagers à Joas, fils de Joachaz, fils de Jéhu, roi d'Israël, pour lui dire : "viens, et voyons-nous en face." ⁹ Et Joas, roi d'Israël, envoya répondre à Amasias, roi de Juda : "l'épine qui est au Liban envoya dire au cèdre qui est au Liban : Donne ta fille pour femme à mon fils ! Et les bêtes sauvages qui sont au Liban passèrent et foulèrent aux pieds l'épine. ¹⁰ Tu as, en vérité, battu les Édomites, et ton coeur s'est élevé. Glorifie-toi, et reste chez toi. Pourquoi t'engager dans le malheur, pour tomber, toi, et Juda avec toi ?" ¹¹ Mais Amasias ne l'écouta pas. Et Joas, roi d'Israël, monta, et ils se virent en face, lui et Amasias, roi de Juda, à Bethsamès, qui est à Juda. ¹² Juda fut battu devant Israël, et chacun s'enfuit dans sa tente. ¹³ Joas, roi d'Israël, prit à Bethsamès Amasias, roi de Juda, fils de Joas, fils d'Ochozias. Il vint à Jérusalem et fit une brèche de quatre cents coudées dans la muraille de Jérusalem, depuis la porte d'Éphraïm jusqu'à la porte de l'angle. ¹⁴ Il prit tout l'or et l'argent et tous les ustensiles qui se trouvaient dans la maison de Yahweh et dans les trésors de la maison du roi ; il prit aussi des otages, et retourna à Samarie. ¹⁵ Le reste des actes de Joas, ce qu'il a fait, et comment il combattit avec Amasias, roi de Juda, cela n'est-il pas écrit dans le livre des Chroniques des rois d'Israël ? ¹⁶ Joas se coucha avec ses pères, et il fut enterré à Samarie, avec les rois d'Israël. Jéroboam, son fils, régna à sa place. ¹⁷ Amasias, fils de Joas, roi de Juda, vécut quinze ans après la mort de Joas, fils de Joachaz, roi d'Israël. ¹⁸ Le reste des actes d'Amasias n'est-il pas écrit dans le livre des Chroniques des rois de Juda ? ¹⁹ On ourdit contre lui une conspiration à Jérusalem, et il s'enfuit à Lachis ; mais on envoya après lui des hommes à Lachis, et on l'y mit à mort. ²⁰ On le transporta sur des chevaux, et il fut enterré à Jérusalem avec ses pères, dans la cité de David. ²¹ Et tout le peuple de Juda prit Azarias, qui était âgé de seize ans ; et on l'établit roi à la place de son père Amasias. ²² Azarias rebâtit Elath et la ramena à Juda, après que le roi fut couché avec ses pères. ²³ La quinzième année d'Amasias, fils de Joas, roi de Juda, Jéroboam, fils de Joas roi d'Israël, régna à Samarie ; son règne fut de quarante et un ans. ²⁴ Il fit ce qui est mal aux yeux de Yahweh ; il ne se détourna d'aucun des péchés de Jéroboam, fils de Nabat, qui avait fait pécher Israël. ²⁵ Il rétablit les limites d'Israël depuis l'entrée d'Emath jusqu'à la mer de l'Arabah, selon la parole de Yahweh, Dieu d'Israël, qu'il avait dite par l'organe de son serviteur Jonas, le prophète, fils d'Amathi, qui était de Geth-Chépher. ²⁶ Car Yahweh vit l'affliciton très amère d'Israël, où il n'y avait plus ni homme marié, ni homme libre, ni personne pour venir au secours d'Israël. ²⁷ Et Yahweh n'avait pas encore résolu d'effacer le nom d'Israël de dessous les cieux, mais il les délivra par la main de Jéroboam, fils de Joas. ²⁸ Le reste des actes de Jéroboam, tout ce qu'il a fait, ses exploits, comment il combattit et comment il ramena à Israël Damas et Emath qui avait appartenu à Juda, cela n'est-il pas écrit dans le livre des Chroniques des rois d'Israël ? ²⁹ Jéroboam se coucha avec ses pères, avec les rois d'Israël ; et Zacharias, son fils, régna à sa place.

¹ La vingt-septième année de Jéroboam, roi d'Israël, régna Azarias, fils d'Amasias, roi de Juda. ² Il avait seize ans lorsqu'il devint roi, et il régna cinquante-deux ans à Jérusalem. Sa mère se nommait Jéchélia, de Jérusalem. ³ Il fit ce qui est droit aux yeux de Yahweh, selon tout ce qu'avait fait Amasias, son père. ⁴ Seulement les hauts lieux ne disparurent point ; le peuple continuait à offrir des sacrifices et des parfums sur les hauts lieux. ⁵ Yahweh frappa le roi, qui fut lépreux jusqu'au jour de sa mort et demeura dans une maison écartée. Joatham, fils du roi, était à la tête de la maison, jugeant le peuple du pays. ⁶ Le reste des actes d'Azarias, et tout ce qu'il a fait, cela n'est-il pas écrit dans le livre des Chroniques des rois de Juda ? ⁷ Azarias se coucha avec ses pères, et on l'enterra avec ses pères dans la cité de David ; et Joatham, son fils, régna à sa place. ⁸ La trente-huitième année d'Azarias, roi de Juda, Zacharie, fils de Jéroboam, régna sur Israël à Samarie ; son règne fut de six mois. ⁹ Il fit ce qui est mal aux yeux de Yahweh, comme avaient fait ses pères ; il ne se détourna pas des péchés de Jéroboam, fils de Nabat, qui avait fait pécher Israël. ¹⁰ Sellum, fils de Jabès, conspira contre lui et, l'ayant frappé devant le peuple, il le mit à mort, et régna à sa place. ¹¹ Le reste des actes de Zacharie, voici que cela est écrit dans le livre des Chroniques des rois d'Israël. ¹² Telle était la parole de Yahweh, qu'il avait dite à Jéhu : "tes fils jusqu'à la quatrième génération seront assis sur le trône d'Israël." Et il en fut ainsi. ¹³ Sellum, fils de Jabès, devint roi la trente-neuvième année d'Ozias, roi de Juda, et il régna pendant un mois à Samarie. ¹⁴ Manahem, fils de Gadi, monta de Thersa et, étant venu à Samarie, il frappa dans Samarie Sellum, fils de Jabès, et le mit à mort ; et il régna à sa place. ¹⁵ Le reste des actes de Sellum, et la conspiration qu'il ourdit, voici que cela est écrit dans le livre des Chroniques des rois d'Israël. ¹⁶ Alors Manahem, étant parti de Thersa, frappa Thapsa et tous ceux qui y étaient, avec son territoire ; il la frappa, parce qu'elle n'avait pas ouvert ses portes, et il fendit le ventre de toutes les femmes enceintes. ¹⁷ La trente-neuvième année d'Azarias, roi de Juda, Manahem, fils de Gadi, devint roi sur Israël ; il régna dix ans à Samarie. ¹⁸ Il fit ce qui est mal aux yeux de Yahweh, il ne se détourna pas, tant qu'il vécut, des péchés de Jéroboam, fils de Nabat, qui avait fait pécher Israël. ¹⁹ Phul, roi d'Assyrie, vint dans le pays, et Manahem donna à Phul mille talents d'argent pour qu'il lui portât secours, et qu'il affermît le royaume dans sa main. ²⁰ Manahem leva cet argent sur Israël, sur tous ceux qui avaient de grandes richesses, afin de le donner au roi d'Assyrie ; il exigea de chacun cinquante sicles d'argent.    ¹ In the three and twentieth year of Joash the son of Ahaziah king of Judah Jehoahaz the son of Jehu began to reign over Israel in Samaria, and reigned seventeen years. ² And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, and followed the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, which made Israel to sin; he departed not therefrom. ³ And the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel, and he delivered them into the hand of Hazael king of Syria, and into the hand of Benhadad the son of Hazael, all their days. ⁴ And Jehoahaz besought the LORD, and the LORD hearkened unto him: for he saw the oppression of Israel, because the king of Syria oppressed them. ⁵ (And the LORD gave Israel a saviour, so that they went out from under the hand of the Syrians: and the children of Israel dwelt in their tents, as beforetime. ⁶ Nevertheless they departed not from the sins of the house of Jeroboam, who made Israel sin, but walked therein: and there remained the grove also in Samaria.) ⁷ Neither did he leave of the people to Jehoahaz but fifty horsemen, and ten chariots, and ten thousand footmen; for the king of Syria had destroyed them, and had made them like the dust by threshing. ⁸ Now the rest of the acts of Jehoahaz, and all that he did, and his might, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel? ⁹ And Jehoahaz slept with his fathers; and they buried him in Samaria: and Joash his son reigned in his stead.

And Joash the king of Israel came down unto him, and wept over his face, and said, O my father, my father, the chariot of Israel, and the horsemen thereof. ¹⁵ And Elisha said unto him, Take bow and arrows. And he took unto him bow and arrows. ¹⁶ And he said to the king of Israel, Put thine hand upon the bow. And he put his hand upon it: and Elisha put his hands upon the king's hands. ¹⁷ And he said, Open the window eastward. And he opened it. Then Elisha said, Shoot. And he shot. And he said, The arrow of the LORD's deliverance, and the arrow of deliverance from Syria: for thou shalt smite the Syrians in Aphek, till thou have consumed them. ¹⁸ And he said, Take the arrows. And he took them. And he said unto the king of Israel, Smite upon the ground. And he smote thrice, and stayed. ¹⁹ And the man of God was wroth with him, and said, Thou shouldest have smitten five or six times; then hadst thou smitten Syria till thou hadst consumed it: whereas now thou shalt smite Syria but thrice.
   ²⁰ And Elisha died, and they buried him. And the bands of the Moabites invaded the land at the coming in of the year. ²¹ And it came to pass, as they were burying a man, that, behold, they spied a band of men; and they cast the man into the sepulchre of Elisha: and when the man was let down, and touched the bones of Elisha, he revived, and stood up on his feet. ²² But Hazael king of Syria oppressed Israel all the days of Jehoahaz. ²³ And the LORD was gracious unto them, and had compassion on them, and had respect unto them, because of his covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and would not destroy them, neither cast he them from his presence as yet. ²⁴ So Hazael king of Syria died; and Benhadad his son reigned in his stead. ²⁵ And Jehoash the son of Jehoahaz took again out of the hand of Benhadad the son of Hazael the cities, which he had taken out of the hand of Jehoahaz his father by war. Three times did Joash beat him, and recovered the cities of Israel.

   ¹ In the second year of Joash son of Jehoahaz king of Israel reigned Amaziah the son of Joash king of Judah. ² He was twenty and five years old when he began to reign, and reigned twenty and nine years in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Jehoaddan of Jerusalem. ³ And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, yet not like David his father: he did according to all things as Joash his father did. ⁴ Howbeit the high places were not taken away: as yet the people did sacrifice and burnt incense on the high places. ⁵ And it came to pass, as soon as the kingdom was confirmed in his hand, that he slew his servants which had slain the king his father. ⁶ But the children of the murderers he slew not: according unto that which is written in the book of the law of Moses, wherein the LORD commanded, saying, The fathers shall not be put to death for the children, nor the children be put to death for the fathers; but every man shall be put to death for his own sin. ⁷ He slew of Edom in the valley of salt ten thousand, and took Selah by war, and called the name of it Joktheel unto this day.
   ⁸ Then Amaziah sent messengers to Jehoash, the son of Jehoahaz son of Jehu, king of Israel, saying, Come, let us look one another in the face. ⁹ And Jehoash the king of Israel sent to Amaziah king of Judah, saying, The thistle that was in Lebanon sent to the cedar that was in Lebanon, saying, Give thy daughter to my son to wife: and there passed by a wild beast that was in Lebanon, and trode down the thistle. ¹⁰ Thou hast indeed smitten Edom, and thine heart hath lifted thee up: glory of this, and tarry at home: for why shouldest thou meddle to thy hurt, that thou shouldest fall, even thou, and Judah with thee? ¹¹ But Amaziah would not hear. Therefore Jehoash king of Israel went up; and he and Amaziah king of Judah looked one another in the face at Bethshemesh, which belongeth to Judah. ¹² And Judah was put to the worse before Israel; and they fled every man to their tents. ¹³ And Jehoash king of Israel took Amaziah king of Judah, the son of Jehoash the son of Ahaziah, at Bethshemesh, and came to Jerusalem, and brake down the wall of Jerusalem from the gate of Ephraim unto the corner gate, four hundred cubits. ¹⁴ And he took all the gold and silver, and all the vessels that were found in the house of the LORD, and in the treasures of the king's house, and hostages, and returned to Samaria.
   ¹⁵ Now the rest of the acts of Jehoash which he did, and his might, and how he fought with Amaziah king of Judah, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel? ¹⁶ And Jehoash slept with his fathers, and was buried in Samaria with the kings of Israel; and Jeroboam his son reigned in his stead. ¹⁷ And Amaziah the son of Joash king of Judah lived after the death of Jehoash son of Jehoahaz king of Israel fifteen years. ¹⁸ And the rest of the acts of Amaziah, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah? ¹⁹ Now they made a conspiracy against him in Jerusalem: and he fled to Lachish; but they sent after him to Lachish, and slew him there. ²⁰ And they brought him on horses: and he was buried at Jerusalem with his fathers in the city of David. ²¹ And all the people of Judah took Azariah, which was sixteen years old, and made him king instead of his father Amaziah. ²² He built Elath, and restored it to Judah, after that the king slept with his fathers.
   ²³ In the fifteenth year of Amaziah the son of Joash king of Judah Jeroboam the son of Joash king of Israel began to reign in Samaria, and reigned forty and one years. ²⁴ And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD: he departed not from all the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin. ²⁵ He restored the coast of Israel from the entering of Hamath unto the sea of the plain, according to the word of the LORD God of Israel, which he spake by the hand of his servant Jonah, the son of Amittai, the prophet, which was of Gathhepher. ²⁶ For the LORD saw the affliction of Israel, that it was very bitter: for there was not any shut up, nor any left, nor any helper for Israel. ²⁷ And the LORD said not that he would blot out the name of Israel from under heaven: but he saved them by the hand of Jeroboam the son of Joash. ²⁸ Now the rest of the acts of Jeroboam, and all that he did, and his might, how he warred, and how he recovered Damascus, and Hamath, which belonged to Judah, for Israel, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel? ²⁹ And Jeroboam slept with his fathers, even with the kings of Israel; and Zachariah his son reigned in his stead.

   ¹ In the twenty and seventh year of Jeroboam king of Israel began Azariah son of Amaziah king of Judah to reign. ² Sixteen years old was he when he began to reign, and he reigned two and fifty years in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Jecholiah of Jerusalem. ³ And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, according to all that his father Amaziah had done; ⁴ Save that the high places were not removed: the people sacrificed and burnt incense still on the high places. ⁵ And the LORD smote the king, so that he was a leper unto the day of his death, and dwelt in a several house. And Jotham the king's son was over the house, judging the people of the land. ⁶ And the rest of the acts of Azariah, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah? ⁷ So Azariah slept with his fathers; and they buried him with his fathers in the city of David: and Jotham his son reigned in his stead.
   ⁸ In the thirty and eighth year of Azariah king of Judah did Zachariah the son of Jeroboam reign over Israel in Samaria six months. ⁹ And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, as his fathers had done: he departed not from the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin. ¹⁰ And Shallum the son of Jabesh conspired against him, and smote him before the people, and slew him, and reigned in his stead. ¹¹ And the rest of the acts of Zachariah, behold, they are written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel. ¹² This was the word of the LORD which he spake unto Jehu, saying, Thy sons shall sit on the throne of Israel unto the fourth generation.    ³² In the second year of Pekah the son of Remaliah king of Israel began Jotham the son of Uzziah king of Judah to reign. ³³ Five and twenty years old was he when he began to reign, and he reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Jerusha, the daughter of Zadok. ³⁴ And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD: he did according to all that his father Uzziah had done. ³⁵ Howbeit the high places were not removed: the people sacrificed and burned incense still in the high places. He built the higher gate of the house of the LORD. ³⁶ Now the rest of the acts of Jotham, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah? ³⁷ In those days the LORD began to send against Judah Rezin the king of Syria, and Pekah the son of Remaliah. ³⁸ And Jotham slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David his father: and Ahaz his son reigned in his stead.
