¹⁶ Now therefore send quickly, and tell David, saying, Lodge not this night in the plains of the wilderness, but speedily pass over; lest the king be swallowed up, and all the people that are with him. ¹⁷ Now Jonathan and Ahimaaz stayed by Enrogel; for they might not be seen to come into the city: and a wench went and told them; and they went and told king David. ¹⁸ Nevertheless a lad saw them, and told Absalom: but they went both of them away quickly, and came to a man's house in Bahurim, which had a well in his court; whither they went down. ¹⁹ And the woman took and spread a covering over the well's mouth, and spread ground corn thereon; and the thing was not known. ²⁰ And when Absalom's servants came to the woman to the house, they said, Where is Ahimaaz and Jonathan? And the woman said unto them, They be gone over the brook of water. And when they had sought and could not find them, they returned to Jerusalem. ²¹ And it came to pass, after they were departed, that they came up out of the well, and went and told king David, and said unto David, Arise, and pass quickly over the water: for thus hath Ahithophel counselled against you.

¹⁶ Maintenant, envoyez tout de suite informer David et faites-lui dire: Ne passe point la nuit dans les plaines du désert, mais va plus loin, de peur que le roi et tout le peuple qui est avec lui ne soient exposés à périr. ¹⁷ Jonathan et Achimaats se tenaient à En Roguel. Une servante vint leur dire d'aller informer le roi David ; car ils n'osaient pas se montrer et entrer dans la ville. ¹⁸ Un jeune homme les aperçut, et le rapporta à Absalom. Mais ils partirent tous deux en hâte, et ils arrivèrent à Bachurim à la maison d'un homme qui avait un puits dans sa cour, et ils y descendirent. ¹⁹ La femme prit une couverture qu'elle étendit sur l'ouverture du puits, et elle y répandit du grain pilé pour qu'on ne se doutât de rien. ²⁰ Les serviteurs d'Absalom entrèrent dans la maison auprès de cette femme, et dirent: Où sont Achimaats et Jonathan ? La femme leur répondit: Ils ont passé le ruisseau. Ils cherchèrent, et ne les trouvant pas, ils retournèrent à Jérusalem. ²¹ Après leur départ, Achimaats et Jonathan remontèrent du puits et allèrent informer le roi David. Ils dirent à David: Levez-vous et hâtez-vous de passer l'eau, car Achitophel a conseillé contre vous telle chose.

   ¹⁶ Nunc ergo mittite cito, et nuntiate David, dicentes : Ne moreris nocte hac in campestribus deserti, sed absque dilatione transgredere : ne forte absorbeatur rex, et omnis populus qui cum eo est.
   ¹⁷ Jonathas autem et Achimaas stabant juxta fontem Rogel : abiit ancilla et nuntiavit eis. Et illi profecti sunt, ut referrent ad regem David nuntium : non enim poterant videri, aut introire civitatem.
   ¹⁸ Vidit autem eos quidam puer, et indicavit Absalom : illi vero concito gradu ingressi sunt domum cujusdam viri in Bahurim, qui habebat puteum in vestibulo suo : et descenderunt in eum.
   ¹⁹ Tulit autem mulier, et expandit velamen super os putei, quasi siccans ptisanas : et sic latuit res.
   ²⁰ Cumque venissent servi Absalom in domum, ad mulierem dixerunt : Ubi est Achimaas et Jonathas ? Et respondit eis mulier : Transierunt festinanter, gustata paululum aqua. At hi qui quærebant, cum non reperissent, reversi sunt in Jerusalem.
   ²¹ Cumque abiissent, ascenderunt illi de puteo, et pergentes nuntiaverunt regi David, et dixerunt : Surgite, et transite cito fluvium : quoniam hujuscemodi dedit consilium contra vos Achitophel.
