   ⁴ Et il arriva, cette nuit-là, que la parole de l'Éternel vint à Nathan, disant : ⁵ Va, et dis à mon serviteur, à David : Ainsi dit l'Éternel : Me bâtirais-tu une maison pour que j'y habite ? ⁶ car je n'ai pas habité dans une maison, depuis le jour où j'ai fait monter les fils d'Israël hors d'Égypte, jusqu'à ce jour ; mais j'ai marché çà et là dans une tente et dans un tabernacle. ⁷ Partout où j'ai marché au milieu de tous les fils d'Israël, ai-je dit un mot à quelqu'une des tribus d'Israël à laquelle j'ai commandé de paître mon peuple Israël, en disant : Pourquoi ne me bâtissez-vous pas une maison de cèdres ? ⁸ Et maintenant tu diras ainsi à mon serviteur, à David : Ainsi dit l'Éternel des armées : Je t'ai pris des parcs, d'auprès du menu bétail, pour que tu fusses prince sur mon peuple, sur Israël ; ⁹ et j'ai été avec toi partout où tu as marché ; et j'ai retranché tous tes ennemis de devant toi, et je t'ai fait un grand nom, comme le nom des grands qui sont sur la terre. ¹⁰ Et j'ai établi un lieu à mon peuple, à Israël, et je le planterai, et il habitera chez lui, et ne sera plus agité ; et les fils d'iniquité ne l'affligeront plus comme au commencement, ¹¹ et depuis le jour où j'ai établi* des juges sur mon peuple Israël. Et je t'ai donné du repos de tous tes ennemis ; et l'Éternel t'annonce que l'Éternel te fera une maison. ¹² Quand tes jours seront accomplis et que tu dormiras avec tes pères, je susciterai après toi ta semence qui sortira de tes entrailles, et j'affermirai son royaume. ¹³ Lui, bâtira une maison à* mon nom ; et j'affermirai le trône de son royaume pour toujours. ¹⁴ Moi, je lui serai pour père, et lui me sera pour fils : s'il commet l'iniquité, je le châtierai avec une verge d'hommes et avec des plaies des fils des hommes ; ¹⁵ mais ma bonté ne se retirera point de lui, comme je l'ai retirée d'avec Saül que j'ai ôté de devant toi. ¹⁶ Et ta maison et ton royaume seront rendus stables à toujours devant toi, ton trône sera affermi pour toujours. ¹⁷ Nathan parla ainsi à David, selon toutes ces paroles et selon toute cette vision.

   ⁴ And it came to pass that night, that the word of the LORD came unto Nathan, saying, ⁵ Go and tell my servant David, Thus saith the LORD, Shalt thou build me an house for me to dwell in? ⁶ Whereas I have not dwelt in any house since the time that I brought up the children of Israel out of Egypt, even to this day, but have walked in a tent and in a tabernacle. ⁷ In all the places wherein I have walked with all the children of Israel spake I a word with any of the tribes of Israel, whom I commanded to feed my people Israel, saying, Why build ye not me an house of cedar? ⁸ Now therefore so shalt thou say unto my servant David, Thus saith the LORD of hosts, I took thee from the sheepcote, from following the sheep, to be ruler over my people, over Israel: ⁹ And I was with thee whithersoever thou wentest, and have cut off all thine enemies out of thy sight, and have made thee a great name, like unto the name of the great men that are in the earth. ¹⁰ Moreover I will appoint a place for my people Israel, and will plant them, that they may dwell in a place of their own, and move no more; neither shall the children of wickedness afflict them any more, as beforetime, ¹¹ And as since the time that I commanded judges to be over my people Israel, and have caused thee to rest from all thine enemies. Also the LORD telleth thee that he will make thee an house. ¹² And when thy days be fulfilled, and thou shalt sleep with thy fathers, I will set up thy seed after thee, which shall proceed out of thy bowels, and I will establish his kingdom. ¹³ He shall build an house for my name, and I will stablish the throne of his kingdom for ever. ¹⁴ I will be his father, and he shall be my son. If he commit iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men, and with the stripes of the children of men: ¹⁵ But my mercy shall not depart away from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I put away before thee. ¹⁶ And thine house and thy kingdom shall be established for ever before thee: thy throne shall be established for ever. ¹⁷ According to all these words, and according to all this vision, so did Nathan speak unto David.

Ai-je dit: Pourquoi ne m'avez-vous point bâti une maison de cèdre? ⁸ Maintenant donc tu diras ainsi à David, mon serviteur: Ainsi a dit l'Éternel des armées: Je t'ai pris au pâturage, d'auprès des brebis, afin que tu fusses le conducteur de mon peuple d'Israël, ⁹ Et j'ai été avec toi partout où tu as été; j'ai exterminé tous tes ennemis devant toi, et j'ai rendu ton nom grand, comme le nom des grands de la terre. ¹⁰ Et j'ai assigné un lieu à mon peuple d'Israël; je l'ai planté, et il habite chez lui; il ne sera plus agité, et les enfants d'iniquité ne l'affligeront plus comme auparavant, ¹¹ Depuis le jour où j'ai établi des juges sur mon peuple d'Israël. Et je t'ai donné du repos de tous tes ennemis. L'Éternel donc t'a fait entendre qu'il te bâtira une maison. ¹² Quand tes jours seront accomplis, et que tu seras couché avec tes pères, j'élèverai ta postérité après toi, celui qui sortira de tes entrailles, et j'affermirai son règne; ¹³ Ce sera lui qui bâtira une maison à mon nom, et j'affermirai le trône de son règne à toujours. ¹⁴ Je serai son père, et lui sera mon fils. S'il commet quelque iniquité, je le châtierai avec la verge des hommes et avec les plaies des fils des hommes, ¹⁵ Mais ma grâce ne se retirera point de lui, comme je l'ai retirée de Saül, que j'ai ôté de devant toi. ¹⁶ Ainsi ta maison et ton règne seront assurés à jamais devant tes yeux; ton trône sera à jamais affermi. ¹⁷ Nathan parla donc à David selon toutes ces paroles et selon toute cette vision.
