¹ Puis l'un des sept anges qui portaient les sept coupes vint me parler en ces termes : "viens, je te montrerai le logement de la grande prostituée qui est assise sur les grandes eaux, ² avec laquelle les rois de la terre se sont souillés, et qui a enivré les habitants de la terre du vin de son impudicité." ³ Et il me transporta ces esprit dans un désert. Et je vis une femme assise sur une bête écarlate, pleine de noms de blasphème, et ayant sept têtes et dix cornes. ⁴ Cette femme était vêtue de pourpre et d'écarlate ; et richement parée d'or, de pierres précieuses et de perles ; elle tenait à la main une coupe d'or, remplie d'abominations et des souillures de sa prostitution. ⁵ Sur son front était un nom, nom mystérieux : "Babylone la grande, la mère des impudiques et des abominations de la terre." ⁶ Je vis cette femme ivre du sang des saints et du sang des martyrs de Jésus ; et, en la voyant, je fus saisi d'un grand étonnement.

   ¹ And there came one of the seven angels which had the seven vials, and talked with me, saying unto me, Come hither; I will shew unto thee the judgment of the great whore that sitteth upon many waters: ² With whom the kings of the earth have committed fornication, and the inhabitants of the earth have been made drunk with the wine of her fornication. ³ So he carried me away in the spirit into the wilderness: and I saw a woman sit upon a scarlet coloured beast, full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns. ⁴ And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication: ⁵ And upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH. ⁶ And I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus: and when I saw her, I wondered with great admiration.

   ¹ Et venit unus de septem angelis, qui habebant septem phialas, et locutus est mecum, dicens : Veni, ostendam tibi damnationem meretricis magnæ, quæ sedet super aquas multas,
   ² cum qua fornicati sunt reges terræ, et inebriati sunt qui inhabitant terram de vino prostitutionis ejus.
   ³ Et abstulit me in spiritu in desertum. Et vidi mulierem sedentem super bestiam coccineam, plenam nominibus blasphemiæ, habentem capita septem, et cornua decem.
   ⁴ Et mulier erat circumdata purpura, et coccino, et inaurata auro, et lapide pretioso, et margaritis, habens poculum aureum in manu sua, plenum abominatione, et immunditia fornicationis ejus.
   ⁵ Et in fronte ejus nomen scriptum : Mysterium : Babylon magna, mater fornicationum, et abominationum terræ.
   ⁶ Et vidi mulierem ebriam de sanguine sanctorum, et de sanguine martyrum Jesu. Et miratus sum cum vidissem illam admiratione magna.
