¹ La première alliance avait aussi ses règlements relatifs au culte, et un sanctuaire terrestre. ² En effet, on a construit un tabernacle, avec une partie intérieure, appelée le lieu saint, où étaient le chandelier, la table et les pains de proposition. ³ Derrière le second voile, se trouvait la partie du tabernacle appelée le Saint des saints, ayant un autel d'or pour les parfums et l'arche de l'alliance toute recouverte d'or. ⁴ Dans l'arche se trouvait une urne d'or renfermant la manne, la verge d'Aaron qui avait fleuri, et les tables de l'alliance. ⁵ Au des-sus étaient des chérubins de la gloire, couvrant de leur ombre le propitiatoire. Mais ce n'est pas ici le lieu de parler sur ce sujet en détail. ⁶ Or, ces choses étant ainsi disposées, les prêtres entrent en tout temps dans la partie antérieure du tabernacle, lors-qu'ils font le service du culte ; ⁷ le grand prêtre seul, une seule fois l'année, entre dans la seconde partie, mais avec du sang qu'il offre pour lui-même et pour les péchés du peuple.

   ¹ Then verily the first covenant had also ordinances of divine service, and a worldly sanctuary. ² For there was a tabernacle made; the first, wherein was the candlestick, and the table, and the shewbread; which is called the sanctuary. ³ And after the second veil, the tabernacle which is called the Holiest of all; ⁴ Which had the golden censer, and the ark of the covenant overlaid round about with gold, wherein was the golden pot that had manna, and Aaron's rod that budded, and the tables of the covenant; ⁵ And over it the cherubims of glory shadowing the mercyseat; of which we cannot now speak particularly. ⁶ Now when these things were thus ordained, the priests went always into the first tabernacle, accomplishing the service of God. ⁷ But into the second went the high priest alone once every year, not without blood, which he offered for himself, and for the errors of the people:

   ¹ Habuit quidem et prius justificationes culturæ, et Sanctum sæculare.
   ² Tabernaculum enim factum est primum, in quo erant candelabra, et mensa, et propositio panum, quæ dicitur Sancta.
   ³ Post velamentum autem secundum, tabernaculum, quod dicitur Sancta sanctorum :
   ⁴ aureum habens thuribulum, et arcam testamenti circumtectam ex omni parte auro, in qua urna aurea habens manna, et virga Aaron, quæ fronduerat, et tabulæ testamenti,
