   ¹ In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. ² The same was in the beginning with God. ³ All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. ⁴ In him was life; and the life was the light of men.
   ⁵ And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.

¹ Au commencement, la Parole existait déjà. La Parole était avec Dieu et la Parole était Dieu. ² Elle était au commencement avec Dieu. ³ Tout a été fait par elle et rien de ce qui a été fait n'a été fait sans elle. ⁴ En elle il y avait la vie, et cette vie était la lumière des êtres humains. ⁵ La lumière brille dans les ténèbres, et les ténèbres ne l'ont pas accueillie.
