Jr 25:1-14 (King James)

   ¹ The word that came to Jeremiah concerning all the people of Judah in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah, that was the first year of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon; ² The which Jeremiah the prophet spake unto all the people of Judah, and to all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, saying, ³ From the thirteenth year of Josiah the son of Amon king of Judah, even unto this day, that is the three and twentieth year, the word of the LORD hath come unto me, and I have spoken unto you, rising early and speaking; but ye have not hearkened. ⁴ And the LORD hath sent unto you all his servants the prophets, rising early and sending them; but ye have not hearkened, nor inclined your ear to hear. ⁵ They said, Turn ye again now every one from his evil way, and from the evil of your doings, and dwell in the land that the LORD hath given unto you and to your fathers for ever and ever: ⁶ And go not after other gods to serve them, and to worship them, and provoke me not to anger with the works of your hands; and I will do you no hurt. ⁷ Yet ye have not hearkened unto me, saith the LORD; that ye might provoke me to anger with the works of your hands to your own hurt.
   ⁸ Therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts; Because ye have not heard my words, ⁹ Behold, I will send and take all the families of the north, saith the LORD, and Nebuchadrezzar the king of Babylon, my servant, and will bring them against this land, and against the inhabitants thereof, and against all these nations round about, and will utterly destroy them, and make them an astonishment, and an hissing, and perpetual desolations. ¹⁰ Moreover I will take from them the voice of mirth, and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom, and the voice of the bride, the sound of the millstones, and the light of the candle. ¹¹ And this whole land shall be a desolation, and an astonishment; and these nations shall serve the king of Babylon seventy years. ¹² And it shall come to pass, when seventy years are accomplished, that I will punish the king of Babylon, and that nation, saith the LORD, for their iniquity, and the land of the Chaldeans, and will make it perpetual desolations. ¹³ And I will bring upon that land all my words which I have pronounced against it, even all that is written in this book, which Jeremiah hath prophesied against all the nations. ¹⁴ For many nations and great kings shall serve themselves of them also: and I will recompense them according to their deeds, and according to the works of their own hands.

   ¹ La parole fut adressée à Jérémie sur tout le peuple de Juda, la quatrième année de Jojakim, fils de Josias, roi de Juda, -c'était la première année de Nebucadnetsar, roi de Babylone, - ² parole que Jérémie prononça devant tout le peuple de Juda et devant tous les habitants de Jérusalem, en disant: ³ Depuis la treizième année de Josias, fils d'Amon, roi de Juda, il y a vingt-trois ans que la parole de l'Éternel m'a été adressée ; je vous ai parlé, je vous ai parlé dès le matin, et vous n'avez pas écouté. ⁴ L'Éternel vous a envoyé tous ses serviteurs, les prophètes, il les a envoyés dès le matin ; et vous n'avez pas écouté, vous n'avez pas prêté l'oreille pour écouter. ⁵ Ils ont dit: Revenez chacun de votre mauvaise voie et de la méchanceté de vos actions, et vous resterez dans le pays que j'ai donné à vous et à vos pères, d'éternité en éternité ; ⁶ n'allez pas après d'autres dieux, pour les servir et pour vous prosterner devant eux, ne m'irritez pas par l'ouvrage de vos mains, et je ne vous ferai aucun mal. ⁷ Mais vous ne m'avez pas écouté, dit l'Éternel, afin de m'irriter par l'ouvrage de vos mains, pour votre malheur.
   ⁸ C'est pourquoi ainsi parle l'Éternel des armées: Parce que vous n'avez point écouté mes paroles, ⁹ j'enverrai chercher tous les peuples du septentrion, dit l'Éternel, et j'enverrai auprès de Nebucadnetsar, roi de Babylone, mon serviteur ; je le ferai venir contre ce pays et contre ses habitants, et contre toutes ces nations à l'entour, afin de les dévouer par interdit, et d'en faire un objet de désolation et de moquerie, des ruines éternelles. ¹⁰ Je ferai cesser parmi eux les cris de réjouissance et les cris d'allégresse, les chants du fiancé et les chants de la fiancée, le bruit de la meule et la lumière de la lampe. ¹¹ Tout ce pays deviendra une ruine, un désert, et ces nations seront asservies au roi de Babylone pendant soixante-dix ans. ¹² Mais lorsque ces soixante-dix ans seront accomplis, je châtierai le roi de Babylone et cette nation, dit l'Éternel, à cause de leurs iniquités ; je punirai le pays des Chaldéens, et j'en ferai des ruines éternelles. ¹³ Je ferai venir sur ce pays toutes les choses que j'ai annoncées sur lui, tout ce qui est écrit dans ce livre, ce que Jérémie a prophétisé sur toutes les nations. ¹⁴ Car des nations puissantes et de grands rois les asserviront, eux aussi, et je leur rendrai selon leurs oeuvres et selon l'ouvrage de leurs mains.

   ¹ Verbum quod factum est ad Jeremiam, de omni populo Juda, in anno quarto Joakim filii Josiæ regis Juda (ipse est annus primus Nabuchodonosor regis Babylonis),
   ² quod locutus est Jeremias propheta ad omnem populum Juda, et ad universos habitatores Jerusalem, dicens :
   ³ A tertiodecimo anno Josiæ filii Amon regis Juda, usque ad diem hanc, iste tertius et vigesimus annus, factum est verbum Domini ad me, et locutus sum ad vos, de nocte consurgens et loquens, et non audistis.
   ⁴ Et misit Dominus ad vos omnes servos suos prophetas, consurgens diluculo, mittensque : et non audistis, neque inclinastis aures vestras ut audiretis,
   ⁵ cum diceret : Revertimini unusquisque a via sua mala, et a pessimis cogitationibus vestris, et habitabitis in terra quam dedit Dominus vobis et patribus vestris, a sæculo et usque in sæculum :
   ⁶ et nolite ire post deos alienos, ut serviatis eis, adoretisque eos : neque me ad iracundiam provocetis in operibus manuum vestrarum, et non affligam vos.
   ⁷ Et non audistis me, dicit Dominus, ut me ad iracundiam provocaretis in operibus manuum vestrarum, in malum vestrum.
   ⁸ Propterea hæc dicit Dominus exercituum : Pro eo quod non audistis verba mea,
   ⁹ ecce ego mittam et assumam universas cognationes aquilonis, ait Dominus, et Nabuchodonosor regem Babylonis servum meum, et adducam eos super terram istam, et super habitatores ejus, et super omnes nationes quæ in circuitu illius sunt : et interficiam eos, et ponam eos in stuporem et in sibilum, et in solitudines sempiternas.
   ¹⁰ Perdamque ex eis vocem gaudii et vocem lætitiæ, vocem sponsi et vocem sponsæ, vocem molæ et lumen lucernæ.
   ¹¹ Et erit universa terra hæc in solitudinem, et in stuporem : et servient omnes gentes istæ regi Babylonis septuaginta annis.
   ¹² Cumque impleti fuerint septuaginta anni, visitabo super regem Babylonis et super gentem illam, dicit Dominus, iniquitatem eorum, et super terram Chaldæorum, et ponam illam in solitudines sempiternas.
   ¹³ Et adducam super terram illam omnia verba mea, quæ locutus sum contra eam, omne quod scriptum est in libro isto, quæcumque prophetavit Jeremias adversum omnes gentes :
   ¹⁴ quia servierunt eis, cum essent gentes multæ, et reges magni : et reddam eis secundum opera eorum, et secundum facta manuum suarum.
