⁸ La parole de Jéhovah fut adressée à Jérémie à Taphnès, en ces termes : ⁹ Prends dans ta main de grosses pierres et cache-les, en présence des hommes de Juda, dans le ciment de la plate-forme en briques qui est à l'entrée de la maison du Pharaon à Taphnès, ¹⁰ et dis-leur : Je vais envoyer chercher Nabuchodonosor, roi de Babylone, mon serviteur, et je placerai son trône sur ces pierres que j'ai déposées ; il étendra son tapis sur elles. ¹¹ Il viendra et frappera le pays d'Égypte ; ceux qui sont pour la mort, iront à la mort ; ceux qui sont pour la captivité, en captivité, et ceux qui sont pour l'épée, à l'épée. ¹² Et je mettrai le feu aux maisons des dieux d'Égypte ; il les brûlera et les emmènera ; il s'enveloppera du pays d'Égypte, comme un berger s'enveloppe de son vêtement, et il en sortira paisiblement. ¹³ Il brisera les colonnes de la maison du Soleil qui est dans le pays d'Égypte, et il brûlera les maisons des dieux d'Égypte.

   ⁸ Then came the word of the LORD unto Jeremiah in Tahpanhes, saying, ⁹ Take great stones in thine hand, and hide them in the clay in the brickkiln, which is at the entry of Pharaoh's house in Tahpanhes, in the sight of the men of Judah; ¹⁰ And say unto them, Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will send and take Nebuchadrezzar the king of Babylon, my servant, and will set his throne upon these stones that I have hid; and he shall spread his royal pavilion over them. ¹¹ And when he cometh, he shall smite the land of Egypt, and deliver such as are for death to death; and such as are for captivity to captivity; and such as are for the sword to the sword. ¹² And I will kindle a fire in the houses of the gods of Egypt; and he shall burn them, and carry them away captives: and he shall array himself with the land of Egypt, as a shepherd putteth on his garment; and he shall go forth from thence in peace. ¹³ He shall break also the images of Bethshemesh, that is in the land of Egypt; and the houses of the gods of the Egyptians shall he burn with fire.

   ⁸ Et factus est sermo Domini ad Jeremiam in Taphnis, dicens :
   ⁹ Sume lapides grandes in manu tua, et abscondes eos in crypta quæ est sub muro latericio in porta domus Pharaonis in Taphnis, cernentibus viris Judæis :
   ¹⁰ et dices ad eos : Hæc dicit Dominus exercituum, Deus Israël : Ecce ego mittam et assumam Nabuchodonosor regem Babylonis, servum meum : et ponam thronum ejus super lapides istos quos abscondi, et statuet solium suum super eos :
   ¹¹ veniensque percutiet terram Ægypti, quos in mortem, in mortem, et quos in captivitatem, in captivitatem, et quos in gladium, in gladium :
   ¹² et succendet ignem in delubris deorum Ægypti, et comburet ea, et captivos ducet illos, et amicietur terra Ægypti sicut amicitur pastor pallio suo, et egredietur inde in pace :
   ¹³ et conteret statuas domus solis quæ sunt in terra Ægypti, et delubra deorum Ægypti comburet igni.
