   ¹ I say then, Hath God cast away his people? God forbid. For I also am an Israelite, of the seed of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin. ² God hath not cast away his people which he foreknew. Wot ye not what the scripture saith of Elias? how he maketh intercession to God against Israel saying,

   ¹ Je demande donc : Dieu a-t-il rejeté son peuple ? à Dieu ne plaise ! Car je suis aussi Israëlite, de la postérité d'Abraham, de la Tribu de Benjamin. ² Dieu n'a point rejeté son peuple, lequel il a auparavant connu. Et ne savez-vous pas ce que l'Ecriture dit d'Elie, comment il a fait requête à Dieu contre Israël, disant :
