Dn 2:1-13 (Catholique Crampon)

¹ La seconde année du règne de Nabuchodonosor, Nabuchodonosor eut des songes, son esprit fut agité et le sommeil se retira de lui.
² Le roi fit appeler les lettrés, les magiciens, les enchanteurs et les Chaldéens pour lui expliquer ses songes ; ils vinrent et ils se tinrent devant le roi.
³ Le roi leur dit : « J'ai fait un songe, et mon esprit est agité, cherchant à connaître ce songe. »
⁴ Les Chaldéens répondirent au roi en langue araméenne : "Ô roi, vis éternellement ! Dis le songe à tes serviteurs, et nous en ferons connaître la signification."
⁵ Le roi répondît aux Chaldéens, en disant : « C'est chose arrêtée par moi. Si vous ne me faites savoir le songe et sa signification, vous serez coupés en morceaux et vos maisons seront réduites en cloaques.
⁶ Mais si vous me faîtes connaître le songe et sa signification, vous recevrez de moi des dons et des présents, et de grands honneurs ;ainsi faites-moi connaître le songe et sa signification. »
⁷ Ils répondirent pour la deuxième fois en disant : « Que le roi dise le songe à ses serviteurs, et nous en ferons connaître la signification. »
⁸ Le roi répondît et dit : « En vérité, je sais que vous cherchez à gagner du temps, parce que vous voyez que c'est chose arrêtée par moi.
⁹ Puisque vous ne me faîtes pas savoir le songe, c'est que vous n'avez qu'une pensée, celle de concerter un discours mensonger et trompeur, pour le tenir devant moi, en attendant que les temps soient changés ; ainsi, dites-moi le songe et je saurai que vous pourrez m'en faire connaître la véritable signification. »
¹⁰ Les Chaldéens répondirent devant le roi en disant : « Il n'y a pas d'homme sur la terre qui puisse faire connaître ce que je lui demande. Aussi jamais roi, si grand et si puissant qu'il ait été, n'a demandé pareille chose d'aucun lettré, astrologue ou Chaldéen.
¹¹ La chose que le roi demande est difficile, et il n'y a personne qui puisse la faire connaître devant le roi, hormis les dieux dont la demeure n'est pas parmi les mortels. »
¹² Là-dessus le roi se mit en colère et en grande fureur, et il donna l'ordre de mettre à mort tous les sages de BabyIone.
¹³ La sentence ayant été publiée, les sages étaient mis à mort, et on cherchait Daniel et ses compagnons pour les tuer.

Dn 2:1-13 (King James)

¹ And in the second year of the reign of Nebuchadnezzar Nebuchadnezzar dreamed dreams, wherewith his spirit was troubled, and his sleep brake from him.
² Then the king commanded to call the magicians, and the astrologers, and the sorcerers, and the Chaldeans, for to shew the king his dreams. So they came and stood before the king.
³ And the king said unto them, I have dreamed a dream, and my spirit was troubled to know the dream.
⁴ Then spake the Chaldeans to the king in Syriack, O king, live for ever: tell thy servants the dream, and we will shew the interpretation.
⁵ The king answered and said to the Chaldeans, The thing is gone from me: if ye will not make known unto me the dream, with the interpretation thereof, ye shall be cut in pieces, and your houses shall be made a dunghill.
⁶ But if ye shew the dream, and the interpretation thereof, ye shall receive of me gifts and rewards and great honour: therefore shew me the dream, and the interpretation thereof.
⁷ They answered again and said, Let the king tell his servants the dream, and we will shew the interpretation of it.
⁸ The king answered and said, I know of certainty that ye would gain the time, because ye see the thing is gone from me.
⁹ But if ye will not make known unto me the dream, there is but one decree for you: for ye have prepared lying and corrupt words to speak before me, till the time be changed: therefore tell me the dream, and I shall know that ye can shew me the interpretation thereof.
¹⁰ The Chaldeans answered before the king, and said, There is not a man upon the earth that can shew the king's matter: therefore there is no king, lord, nor ruler, that asked such things at any magician, or astrologer, or Chaldean.
¹¹ And it is a rare thing that the king requireth, and there is none other that can shew it before the king, except the gods, whose dwelling is not with flesh.
¹² For this cause the king was angry and very furious, and commanded to destroy all the wise men of Babylon.
¹³ And the decree went forth that the wise men should be slain; and they sought Daniel and his fellows to be slain.

¹ In anno secundo regni Nabuchodonosor, vidit Nabuchodonosor somnium, et conterritus est spiritus ejus, et somnium ejus fugit ab eo.
² Præcepit autem rex ut convocarentur arioli, et magi, et malefici, et Chaldæi, ut indicarent regi somnia sua. Qui cum venissent, steterunt coram rege.
³ Et dixit ad eos rex : Vidi somnium, et mente confusus ignoro quid viderim.
⁴ Responderuntque Chaldæi regi syriace : Rex, in sempiternum vive ! dic somnium servis tuis, et interpretationem ejus indicabimus.
⁵ Et respondens rex ait Chaldæis : Sermo recessit a me : nisi indicaveritis mihi somnium, et conjecturam ejus, peribitis vos, et domus vestræ publicabuntur.
⁶ Si autem somnium, et conjecturam ejus narraveritis, præmia, et dona, et honorem multum accipietis a me. Somnium igitur, et interpretationem ejus indicate mihi.
⁷ Responderunt secundo, atque dixerunt : Rex somnium dicat servis suis, et interpretationem illius indicabimus.
⁸ Respondit rex, et ait : Certe novi quod tempus redimitis, scientes quod recesserit a me sermo.
⁹ Si ergo somnium non indicaveritis mihi, una est de vobis sententia, quod interpretationem quoque fallacem, et deceptione plenam composueritis, ut loquamini mihi donec tempus pertranseat. Somnium itaque dicite mihi, ut sciam quod interpretationem quoque ejus veram loquamini.
¹⁰ Respondentes ergo Chaldæi coram rege, dixerunt : Non est homo super terram, qui sermonem tuum, rex, possit implere : sed neque regum quisquam magnus et potens verbum hujuscemodi sciscitatur ab omni ariolo, et mago, et Chaldæo.
¹¹ Sermo enim, quem tu quæris, rex, gravis est : nec reperietur quisquam qui indicet illum in conspectu regis, exceptis diis, quorum non est cum hominibus conversatio.
¹² Quo audito, rex, in furore et in ira magna, præcepit ut perirent omnes sapientes Babylonis.
¹³ Et egressa sententia, sapientes interficiebantur : quærebanturque Daniel et socii ejus, ut perirent.
