Es 7:10-16 (King James)

¹⁰ Moreover the LORD spake again unto Ahaz, saying,
¹¹ Ask thee a sign of the LORD thy God; ask it either in the depth, or in the height above.
¹² But Ahaz said, I will not ask, neither will I tempt the LORD.
¹³ And he said, Hear ye now, O house of David; Is it a small thing for you to weary men, but will ye weary my God also?
¹⁴ Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.
¹⁵ Butter and honey shall he eat, that he may know to refuse the evil, and choose the good.
¹⁶ For before the child shall know to refuse the evil, and choose the good, the land that thou abhorrest shall be forsaken of both her kings.

¹⁰ L'Eternel dit encore à Achaz:
¹¹ «Demande pour toi un signe à l'Eternel, ton Dieu! Demande-le, que ce soit dans les plus extrêmes profondeurs ou les lieux les plus élevés.»
¹² Achaz répondit: «Je ne demanderai rien, je ne provoquerai pas l'Eternel.»
¹³ Esaïe dit alors: «Ecoutez donc, membres de la dynastie de David! Est-ce trop peu pour vous de fatiguer les hommes, pour que vous abusiez encore de la patience de mon Dieu?
¹⁴ Voilà pourquoi c'est le Seigneur lui-même qui vous donnera un signe: *la vierge sera enceinte, elle mettra au monde un fils et l'appellera Emmanuel. 
¹⁵ Il se nourrira de lait caillé et de miel jusqu'à ce qu'il sache rejeter le mal et choisir le bien.
¹⁶ Cependant, avant que l'enfant sache rejeter le mal et choisir le bien, le territoire dont tu redoutes les deux rois sera abandonné.
