¹ Then Eliphaz the Temanite answered and said,
² If we assay to commune with thee, wilt thou be grieved? but who can withhold himself from speaking?
³ Behold, thou hast instructed many, and thou hast strengthened the weak hands.
⁴ Thy words have upholden him that was falling, and thou hast strengthened the feeble knees.
⁵ But now it is come upon thee, and thou faintest; it toucheth thee, and thou art troubled.
⁶ Is not this thy fear, thy confidence, thy hope, and the uprightness of thy ways?

Reproches d'Eliphaz à Job

¹ Eliphaz de Théman prit la parole et dit:
² Si nous osons ouvrir la bouche, en seras-tu peiné? Mais qui pourrait garder le silence?
³ Voici, tu as souvent enseigné les autres, Tu as fortifié les mains languissantes,
⁴ Tes paroles ont relevé ceux qui chancelaient, Tu as affermi les genoux qui pliaient.
⁵ Et maintenant qu'il s'agit de toi, tu faiblis! Maintenant que tu es atteint, tu te troubles!
⁶ Ta crainte de Dieu n'est-elle pas ton soutien? Ton espérance, n'est-ce pas ton intégrité?

¹ Respondens autem Eliphaz Themanites, dixit :
² [Si cœperimus loqui tibi, forsitan moleste accipies ; sed conceptum sermonem tenere quis poterit ?
³ Ecce docuisti multos, et manus lassas roborasti ;
⁴ vacillantes confirmaverunt sermones tui, et genua trementia confortasti.
⁵ Nunc autem venit super te plaga, et defecisti ; tetigit te, et conturbatus es.
⁶ Ubi est timor tuus, fortitudo tua, patientia tua, et perfectio viarum tuarum ?
