⁸ Il y avait dans la même région des bergers qui vivaient aux champs et qui veillaient la nuit sur leur troupeau.
⁹ Un ange du Seigneur parut auprès d'eux et la gloire du Seigneur les enveloppa de clarté, et ils furent saisis d'une grande crainte.
¹⁰ Mais l'ange leur dit : "ne craignez point, car je vous annonce une nouvelle qui sera pour tout le peuple une grande joie :
¹¹ il vous est né aujourd'hui, dans la ville de David, un Sauveur, qui est le Christ Seigneur.
¹² Et voici ce qui vous en sera le signe : vous trouverez un nouveau-né emmailloté et couché dans une crèche."
¹³ Tout à coup se joignit à l'ange une troupe de la milice céleste, louant Dieu et disant :
¹⁴ "Gloire, dans les hauteurs, à Dieu ! Et, sur terre, paix chez les hommes de bon vouloir !"
¹⁵ Lorsque les anges, s'en allant au ciel, les eurent quittés, les bergers se dirent entre eux : "passons donc jusqu'à Bethléem, et voyons cet événement qui est arrivé, et que le Seigneur nous a fait connaître."
¹⁶ Ils s'y rendirent en toute hâte, et trouvèrent Marie, Joseph et le nouveau-né couché dans la crèche.
¹⁷ Après avoir vu, ils firent connaître ce qui leur avait été dit au sujet de cet enfant.
¹⁸ Et tous ceux qui les entendirent furent dans l'admiration de ce que leur avaient dit les bergers.
¹⁹ Quant à Marie, elle conservait avec soin toutes ces choses, les méditant dans son coeur.
²⁰ Et les bergers s'en retournèrent, glorifiant et louant Dieu de tout ce qu'il avaient entendu et vu, selon ce qui leur avait été dit.

⁸ And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.
⁹ And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.
¹⁰ And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.
¹¹ For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.
¹² And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.
¹³ And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,
¹⁴ Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.
¹⁵ And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us.
¹⁶ And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger.
¹⁷ And when they had seen it, they made known abroad the saying which was told them concerning this child.
¹⁸ And all they that heard it wondered at those things which were told them by the shepherds.
¹⁹ But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart.
²⁰ And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told unto them.

⁸ Et pastores erant in regione eadem vigilantes, et custodientes vigilias noctis super gregem suum.
⁹ Et ecce angelus Domini stetit juxta illos, et claritas Dei circumfulsit illos, et timuerunt timore magno.
¹⁰ Et dixit illis angelus : Nolite timere : ecce enim evangelizo vobis gaudium magnum, quod erit omni populo :
¹¹ quia natus est vobis hodie Salvator, qui est Christus Dominus, in civitate David.
¹² Et hoc vobis signum : invenietis infantem pannis involutum, et positum in præsepio.
¹³ Et subito facta est cum angelo multitudo militiæ cælestis laudantium Deum, et dicentium :
¹⁴ [Gloria in altissimis Deo, et in terra pax hominibus bonæ voluntatis.]
¹⁵ Et factum est, ut discesserunt ab eis angeli in cælum : pastores loquebantur ad invicem : Transeamus usque Bethlehem, et videamus hoc verbum, quod factum est, quod Dominus ostendit nobis.
¹⁶ Et venerunt festinantes : et invenerunt Mariam, et Joseph, et infantem positum in præsepio.
¹⁷ Videntes autem cognoverunt de verbo, quod dictum erat illis de puero hoc.
¹⁸ Et omnes qui audierunt, mirati sunt : et de his quæ dicta erant a pastoribus ad ipsos.
¹⁹ Maria autem conservabat omnia verba hæc, conferens in corde suo.
²⁰ Et reversi sunt pastores glorificantes et laudantes Deum in omnibus quæ audierant et viderant, sicut dictum est ad illos.
