¹ Salomon bâtit sa maison en treize ans, et il l'acheva tout entière.
² Il construisit la maison de la Forêt du Liban, dont la longueur était de cent coudées, la largeur de cinquante coudées et la hauteur de trente coudées ; elle reposait sur quatre rangées de colonnes de cèdre, et il y avait des poutres de cèdre sur les colonnes.
³ Un toit de cèdre la recouvrait, au-dessus des chambres qui reposaient sur les colonnes, au nombre de quarante-cinq, quinze par rangées.
⁴ Il y avait trois rangées de chambres, et les fenêtres se faisaient face, trois fois.
⁵ Toutes les portes et tous les poteaux étaient formés d'ais en carré, et les fenêtres se faisaient face, trois fois.
⁶ Il fit le portique à colonnes, dont la longueur était de cinquante coudées et la largeur de trente coudées, et, en avant, un autre portique avec des colonnes et des degrés devant elles.
⁷ Il fit le portique du trône, où il rendait la justice, le portique du jugement, et il le revêtit de cèdre depuis le sol jusqu'au plafond.
⁸ Sa maison d'habitation fut construite de la même manière, dans une seconde cour, après le portique ; et il fit une maison semblable à ce portique pour la fille de Pharaon, que Salomon avait épousée.
⁹ Toutes ces constructions étaient en pierres de prix, taillées d'après des mesures, sciées avec la scie, à l'intérieur comme à l'extérieur, depuis les fondements jusqu'aux corniches, et en dehors jusqu'à la grande cour.
¹⁰ Les fondements étaient aussi en pierres de prix, en pierres de grande dimension, en pierres de dix coudées et en pierres de huit coudées.
¹¹ Au-dessus, il y avait encore des pierres de prix, taillées d'après des mesures, et du bois de cèdre.
¹² La grande cour avait dans tout son circuit trois rangées de pierres de taille et une rangée de poutres de cèdre, comme le parvis intérieur de la maison de Yahweh, et comme le portique de la maison.
¹³ Le roi Salomon envoya chercher Hiram de Tyr.
¹⁴ Il était fils d'une veuve de la tribu de Nephthali, mais son père était tyrien et travaillait l'airain. Il était rempli de sagesse, d'intelligence et de savoir pour faire toutes sortes d'ouvrages d'airain ; il vint auprès du roi Salomon, et il exécuta tous ses ouvrages.
¹⁵ Il fabriqua les deux colonnes en airain ; la hauteur d'une colonne était de dix-huit coudées et un fil de douze coudées mesurait la circonférence de la deuxième colonne.
¹⁶ Il fit deux chapiteaux d'airain fondu, pour les placer sur les sommets des colonnes ; la hauteur d'un chapiteau était de cinq coudées et la hauteur du deuxième chapiteau était de cinq coudées.
¹⁷ Il y avait des treillis en forme de réseaux, des festons en forme de chaînettes, aux chapiteaux qui surmontaient le sommet des colonnes, sept à un chapiteau, sept au deuxième chapiteau.
¹⁸ Il fit deux rangs de grenades autour de l'un des treillis, pour couvrir le chapiteau qui surmontait l'une des colonnes ; et de même fit-il pour le second chapiteau.
¹⁹ Les chapiteaux qui étaient sur le sommet des colonnes, dans le portique, figuraient des lis ayant quatre coudées de hauteur.
²⁰ Les chapiteaux placés sur les deux colonnes étaient entourés de deux cents grenades, en haut, près du renflement qui était au delà du treillis ; il y avait avait aussi deux cents grenades rangées tout autour, sur le second chapiteau.
²¹ Il dressa les colonnes au portique du temple ; il dressa la colonne de droite et la nomma Jachin ; puis il dressa la colonne de gauche et la nomma Booz.
²² Et il y avait sur le sommet des colonnes un travail figurant des lis. Ainsi fut achevé l'ouvrage des colonnes.
²³ Il fit la mer d'airain fondu. Elle avait dix coudées d'un bord à l'autre, elle était entièrement ronde ; sa hauteur était de cinq coudées, et un cordon de trente coudées mesurait sa circonférence.
²⁴ Des coloquintes l'entouraient, au-dessous du bord, dix par coudées, faisant tout le tour de la mer sur deux rangs ; les coloquintes étaient fondues avec elle en une seule pièce.
²⁵ Elle était posée sur douze boeufs, dont trois regardaient le nord, trois regardaient l'occident, trois regardaient le midi et trois regardaient l'orient ; la mer était sur eux, et toute la partie postérieure de leur corps était cachée en dedans.
²⁶ Son épaisseur était d'un palme, et son bord était semblable au bord d'une coupe, à fleur de lis. Elle contenait deux mille baths.
²⁷ Il fit les dix bases d'airain ; chacune avait quatre coudées de long, quatre coudées de large et trois coudées de haut.
²⁸ Voici comment les bases étaient faites : elles étaient formées de panneaux, et les panneaux s'engageaient entre des châssis ;
²⁹ sur les panneaux qui étaient entre les châssis, il y avait des lions, des taureaux et des chérubins ; et sur les châssis, par en haut, un support, et au-dessous des lions, des taureaux et des chérubins pendaient des guirlandes.
³⁰ Chaque base avait quatre roues d'airain avec des essieux d'airain, et ses quatre pieds avaient des supports ; ces supports fondus étaient au-dessous du bassin et au delà des guirlandes.
³¹ L'ouverture pour recevoir le bassin était à l'intérieur du couronnement de la base, elle était haute d'une coudée ; cette ouverture était ronde, de la forme d'une base de colonne et ayant une coudée et demie de diamètre ; et sur cette ouverture il y avait aussi des sculptures ; les panneaux étaient carrés, et non arrondis.
³² Les quatre roues étaient au-dessous des panneaux ; et les essieux des roues fixés à la base ; chaque roue avait une coudée et demie de hauteur.
³³ Les roues étaient faites comme la roue d'un char ; leurs essieux, leurs jantes, leurs rais et leurs moyeux, tout était fondu.
³⁴ Aux quatre angles de chaque base étaient quatre supports, et ses supports étaient d'une même pièce avec la base.
³⁵ Au sommet de la base était un cercle haut d'une demi-coudée ; et sur le sommet de la base, ses appuis et ses panneaux étaient d'une même pièce.
³⁶ Sur les plaques des appuis et sur les panneaux, il grava des chérubins, des lions et des palmiers, selon l'espace libre pour chacun, et des guirlandes tout autour.
³⁷ C'est ainsi qu'il fit les dix bases ; une même fonte, une même dimension, une même forme pour toutes.
³⁸ Il fit dix bassins d'airain ; chaque bassin contenait quarante baths ; chaque bassin avait quatre coudées de diamètre ; chaque bassin reposait sur une base, une des dix bases.
³⁹ Il disposa ainsi les dix bases : cinq sur le côté droit de la maison, et cinq sur le côté gauche de la maison ; et il plaça la mer au côté droit de la maison, à l'est, vers le sud.
⁴⁰ Hiram fit les chaudrons, les pelles et les coupes. C'est ainsi qu'Hiram acheva tout l'ouvrage qu'il fit pour le roi Salomon dans la maison de Yahweh :
⁴¹ les deux colonnes ; les deux bourrelets des chapiteaux qui sont sur le sommet des colonnes ; les deux treillis pour couvrir les deux bourrelets des chapiteaux qui sont sur le sommet des colonnes ;
⁴² les quatre cents grenades pour les deux treillis, deux rangées de grenades par treillis, pour couvrir les deux bourrelets des chapiteaux qui sont sur les colonnes ;
⁴³ les dix bases, et les dix bassins sur les bases ;
⁴⁴ la mer, et les douze boeufs sous la mer ;
⁴⁵ les pots, les pelles et les coupes. Tous ces ustensiles qu'Hiram fit pour le roi Salomon dans la maison de Yahweh étaient d'airain poli.
⁴⁶ Le roi les fit fondre dans la plaine du Jourdain, dans un sol argileux, entre Sochoth et Sarthan.
⁴⁷ Salomon laissa sans les peser tous ces ustensiles, parce qu'ils étaient en très grande quantité ; le poids de l'airain ne fut pas vérifié.
⁴⁸ Salomon fit encore tous les autres ustensiles qui étaient dans la maison de Yahweh : l'autel d'or ; la table d'or, sur laquelle on mettait les pains de proposition ;
⁴⁹ Les chandÉliers d'or pur, cinq à droite et cinq à gauche, devant l'oracle, avec les fleurs, les lampes et les mouchettes d'or ;
⁵⁰ les bassins, les couteaux, les coupes, les tasses et les encensoirs d'or pur, ainsi que les gonds d'or pour les portes de la maison intérieure, savoir du Saint des Saints, et pour les portes de la maison, savoir du Saint.
⁵¹ Ainsi fut achevé tout l'ouvrage que le roi Salomon fit dans la maison de Yahweh ; et Salomon apporta ce que David, son père, avait consacré, l'argent, l'or et les vases, et il les déversa dans les trésors de la maison de Yahweh.

¹ Alors le roi Salomon assembla près de lui à Jérusalem les anciens d'Israël et tous les chefs des tribus, les princes des familles des enfants d'Israël, pour transporter de la cité de David, c'est-à-dire de Sion, l'arche de l'alliance de Yahweh.
² Tous les hommes d'Israël se réunirent auprès du roi Salomon, au mois d'éthanim, qui est le septième mois, pendant la fête.
³ Lorsque tous les anciens d'Israël furent arrivés, les prêtres portèrent l'arche.
⁴ Ils transportèrent l'arche de Yahweh, ainsi que la tente de réunion et tous les ustensiles sacrés qui étaient dans la tente ; ce furent les prêtres et les lévites qui la transportèrent.
⁵ Le roi Salomon et toute l'assemblée d'Israël convoquée auprès de lui se tenaient avec lui devant l'arche. Ils immolèrent des brebis et des boeufs, qui ne pouvaient être ni comptés ni nombrés à cause de leur multitude.
⁶ Les prêtres portèrent l'arche de l'alliance de Yahweh à sa place, dans le sanctuaire de la maison, dans le Saint des Saints, sous les ailes des Chérubins.
⁷ Car les Chérubins étendaient leurs ailes sur la place de l'arche, et les Chérubins couvraient l'arche et ses barres par-dessus.
⁸ Les barres avaient une longueur telle que leurs extrémités se voyaient du lieu saint devant le sanctuaire, mais on ne les voyait point du dehors. Elles ont été là jusqu'à ce jour.
⁹ Il n'y avait dans l'arche que les deux tables de pierre, que Moïse y avait déposées sur le mont Horeb, lorsque Yahweh conclut une alliance avec les enfants d'Israël à leur sortie du pays d'Égypte.
¹⁰ Au moment où les prêtres sortirent du lieu saint, la nuée remplit la maison de Yahweh.
¹¹ Les prêtres ne purent pas y rester pour faire leur service, à cause de la nuée ; car la gloire de Yahweh remplissait la maison de Yahweh.
¹² Alors Salomon dit : « Yahweh veut habiter dans l'obscurité.
¹³ J'ai bâti une maison qui sera votre demeure, un lieu pour que vous y résidiez à jamais. »
¹⁴ Puis le roi tourna son visage et bénit toute l'assemblée d'Israël, et toute l'assemblée d'Israël était debout.
¹⁵ Et il dit : « Béni soit Yahweh. Dieu d'Israël, qui a parlé par sa bouche à David, mon père, et qui a accompli par sa main ce qu'il avait déclaré en disant :
¹⁶ « Depuis le jour où j'ai fait sortir d'Égypte mon peuple d'Israël, je n'ai point choisi de ville, parmi toutes les tribus d'Israël, pour qu'on y bâtisse une maison où réside mon nom, mais j'ai choisi David pour qu'il règne sur mon peuple d'Israël. »
¹⁷ David, mon père, avait l'intention de bâtir une maison au nom de Yahweh, Dieu d'Israël ;
¹⁸ mais Yahweh dit à David, mon père : « Puisque tu as eu l'intention de bâtir une maison à mon nom, tu as bien fait d'avoir eu cette intention.
¹⁹ Seulement, ce ne sera pas toi qui bâtiras la maison ; ce sera ton fils, sorti de tes entrailles, qui bâtira la maison à mon nom. »
²⁰ Yahweh a accompli la parole qu'il avait prononcée : je me suis élevé à la place de David, mon père, et je me suis assis sur le trône d'Israël, comme Yahweh l'avait dit, et j'ai bâti la maison au nom de Yahweh, Dieu d'Israël.
²¹ J'y ai établi un lieu pour l'arche où se trouve l'alliance de Yahweh, alliance qu'il a conclue avec nos pères quand il les a fait sortir du pays d'Égypte. »
²² Salomon se plaça devant l'autel de Yahweh, en face de toute l'assemblée d'Israël, et, étendant ses mains vers le ciel, il dit :
²³ « Yahweh, Dieu d'Israël, il n'y a point de Dieu semblable à vous, ni en haut dans les cieux, ni en bas sur la terre ; à vous, qui gardez l'alliance et la miséricorde envers vos serviteurs qui marchent de tout leur coeur en votre présence ;
²⁴ comme vous avez gardé à votre serviteur David, mon père, ce que vous lui avez dit ; ce que vous avez déclaré par votre bouche, vous l'avez accompli par votre main, comme on le voit en ce jour.
²⁵ Maintenant, Yahweh, Dieu d'Israël, observez en faveur de votre serviteur David, mon père, ce que vous lui avez dit en ces termes : « Il ne te manquera jamais devant moi un descendant qui siège sur le trône d'Israël, pourvu que tes fils prennent garde à leur voie, en marchant devant moi comme tu as marché devant moi. »
²⁶ Et maintenant, Dieu d'Israël, qu'elle s'accomplisse donc la parole que vous avez dite à votre serviteur David, mon père !
²⁷ « Mais est-il vrai que Dieu habite sur la terre ? Voici que le ciel et le ciel des cieux ne peuvent vous contenir : combien moins cette maison que j'ai bâtie !
²⁸ Cependant soyez attentif, Yahweh, mon Dieu, à la prière de votre serviteur et à sa supplication, en écoutant le cri joyeux et la prière que votre serviteur prononce devant vous aujourd'hui,
²⁹ en tenant vos yeux ouverts nuit et jour sur cette maison, sur le lieu dont vous avez dit : « Là sera mon nom, » en écoutant la prière que votre serviteur fait en ce lieu.
³⁰ Ecoutez la supplication de votre serviteur et de votre peuple d'Israël, lorsqu'ils prieront en ce lieu ; écoutez du lieu de votre demeure, du ciel, écoutez et pardonnez.
³¹ « Si quelqu'un pèche contre son prochain et qu'on lui fasse prêter un serment, s'il vient jurer devant votre autel, dans cette maison,
³² écoutez-le du ciel, agissez, et jugez vos serviteurs, condamnant le coupable et faisant retomber sa conduite sur sa tête, déclarant juste l'innocent et lui rendant selon son innocence.
³³ « Quand votre peuple d'Israël sera battu devant l'ennemi parce qu'il aura péché contre vous, s'ils reviennent à vous et rendent gloire à votre nom, s'ils vous adressent des prières et des supplications dans cette maison,
³⁴ écoutez-les du ciel, pardonnez le péché de votre peuple d'Israël, et ramenez-les dans le pays que vous avez donné à leurs pères.
³⁵ « Quand le ciel sera fermé et qu'il n'y aura pas de pluie parce qu'ils auront péché contre vous, s'ils prient dans ce lieu et rendent gloire à votre nom, et s'ils se détournent de leurs péchés, parce que vous les aurez affligés,
³⁶ écoutez-les du ciel, pardonnez les péchés de vos serviteurs et de votre peuple d'Israël, en leur enseignant la bonne voie dans laquelle ils doivent marcher, et faites tomber la pluie sur la terre que vous avez donnée en héritage à votre peuple.
³⁷ « Quand la famine sera dans le pays, quand il y aura la peste, quand il y aura la rouille, la nielle, la sauterelle, le hasil ; quand l'ennemi assiégera votre peuple dans le pays, dans ses portes ; quand il y aura fléau ou maladie quelconques,
³⁸ si un homme, si tout votre peuple d'Israël fait entendre des prières et des supplications, et que chacun, reconnaissant la plaie de son coeur, étende ses mains vers cette maison,
³⁹ écoutez-les du ciel, du lieu de votre demeure, et pardonnez ; agissez et rendez à chacun selon toutes ses voies, vous qui connaissez son coeur, ‒ car seul vous connaissez les coeurs de tous les enfants des hommes, ‒
⁴⁰ afin qu'ils vous craignent tous les jours qu'ils vivront sur la face du pays que vous avez donné à nos pères.
⁴¹ « Quant à l'étranger, qui n'est pas de votre peuple d'Israël, mais qui viendra d'un pays lointain à cause de votre nom,
⁴² ‒ car on entendra parler de votre grand nom, de votre main forte et de votre bras étendu, ‒ quand il viendra prier dans cette maison,
⁴³ écoutez-le du ciel, du lieu de votre demeure, et agissez selon tout ce que vous demandera l'étranger, afin que tous les peuples de la terre connaissent votre nom, pour vous craindre, comme votre peuple d'Israël, et qu'ils sachent que votre nom est appelé sur cette maison que j'ai bâtie.
⁴⁴ « Quand votre peuple sortira pour combattre son ennemi, en suivant la voie dans laquelle vous les aurez envoyés, et qu'ils adresseront des prières à Yahweh, le visage tourné vers la ville que vous avez choisie et vers la maison que j'ai bâtie à votre nom,
⁴⁵ écoutez du ciel leur prière et leur supplication, et rendez-leur justice.
⁴⁶ « Quand ils pècheront contre vous, ‒ car il n'y a pas d'homme qui ne pèche, ‒ et quand, irrité contre eux, vous les livrerez à l'ennemi, et que leur vainqueur les emmènera captifs au pays de l'ennemi, lointain ou rapproché,
⁴⁷ s'ils rentrent en eux-mêmes dans le pays de leurs vainqueurs, s'ils se convertissent et vous adressent des supplications dans le pays de leurs tyrans, en disant : Nous avons péché, nous avons fait l'iniquité, nous avons commis le crime ;
⁴⁸ s'ils reviennent à vous de tout leur coeur et de toute leur âme, dans le pays de leurs ennemis qui les ont emmenés captifs, s'ils vous adressent des prières, le visage tourné vers le pays que vous avez donné à leurs pères, vers la ville que vous avez choisie et vers la maison que j'ai bâtie à votre nom,
⁴⁹ écoutez, du ciel, du lieu de votre demeure, leur prière et leur supplication, et faites-leur droit ;
⁵⁰ pardonnez à votre peuple ses transgressions et tous ses péchés qu'il a commis contre vous ; faites-en un sujet de compassion devant leurs tyrans, afin qu'ils aient pitié d'eux ;
⁵¹ car ils sont votre peuple et votre héritage, que vous avez fait sortir d'Égypte, du milieu d'une fournaise de fer :
⁵² afin que vos yeux soient ouverts à la supplication de votre serviteur et à la supplication de votre peuple d'Israël, pour les écouter en tout ce qu'ils vous demanderont.
⁵³ Car vous les avez séparés de tous les peuples de la terre pour vous, pour en faire votre héritage, comme vous l'avez déclaré par Moïse, votre serviteur, quand vous avez fait sortir nos pères d'Égypte, ô Seigneur Yahweh. »
⁵⁴ Lorsque Salomon eut achevé d'adresser à Yahweh toute cette prière et cette supplication, il se leva de devant l'autel de Yahweh, où il était à genoux, les mains étendues vers le ciel.
⁵⁵ S'étant levé, il bénit toute l'assemblée d'Israël à haute voix en disant :
⁵⁶ »Béni soit Yahweh qui a donné du repos à son peuple d'Israël, selon tout ce qu'il a dit ! De toutes les bonnes paroles qu'il a fait entendre par l'organe de Moïse, son serviteur, aucune parole n'est restée sans effet.
⁵⁷ Que Yahweh, notre Dieu, soit avec nous, comme il a été avec nos pères ; qu'il ne nous abandonne point et ne nous délaisse point,
⁵⁸ mais qu'il incline nos coeurs vers lui, afin que nous marchions dans toutes ses voies, et que nous observions ses commandements, ses lois et ses ordonnances, qu'il a prescrits à nos pères.
⁵⁹ Que mes paroles de supplication que j'ai prononcées devant Yahweh soient proches de Yahweh, notre Dieu, nuit et jour, pour que, selon le besoin de chaque jour, il fasse droit à son serviteur et à son peuple d'Israël,
⁶⁰ afin que tous les peuples de la terre sachent que Yahweh est Dieu, qu'il n'y en a point d'autre.
⁶¹ Que votre coeur soit tout à Yahweh, notre Dieu, pour marcher selon ses lois et pour observer ses commandements, comme nous le faisons aujourd'hui. »
⁶² Le roi et tout Israël avec lui offrirent des sacrifices devant Yahweh.
⁶³ Salomon immola vingt-deux mille boeufs et cent vingt mille brebis pour le sacrifice pacifique qu'il offrit à Yahweh. C'est ainsi que le roi et tous les enfants d'Israël firent la dédicace de la maison de Yahweh.
⁶⁴ En ce jour, le roi consacra le milieu du parvis qui est devant la maison de Yahweh ; car il offrit là les holocaustes, les oblations et les graisses des sacrifices pacifiques, parce que l'autel d'airain qui est devant Yahweh était trop petit pour contenir les holocaustes, les oblations et les graisses des sacrifices pacifiques.
⁶⁵ Salomon célébra la fête en ce temps-là, et tout Israël avec lui, grande multitude venue depuis l'entrée d'Emath jusqu'au torrent d'Égypte, ‒ devant Yahweh, notre Dieu, ‒ pendant sept jours et sept autres jours, soit quatorze jours.
⁶⁶ le huitième jour il renvoya le peuple. Et ils bénirent le roi, et s'en allèrent dans leurs demeures, joyeux et le coeur content pour tout le bien que Yahweh avait fait à David, son serviteur, et à Israël, son peuple.

¹ But Solomon was building his own house thirteen years, and he finished all his house.
² He built also the house of the forest of Lebanon; the length thereof was an hundred cubits, and the breadth thereof fifty cubits, and the height thereof thirty cubits, upon four rows of cedar pillars, with cedar beams upon the pillars.
³ And it was covered with cedar above upon the beams, that lay on forty five pillars, fifteen in a row.
⁴ And there were windows in three rows, and light was against light in three ranks.
⁵ And all the doors and posts were square, with the windows: and light was against light in three ranks.
⁶ And he made a porch of pillars; the length thereof was fifty cubits, and the breadth thereof thirty cubits: and the porch was before them: and the other pillars and the thick beam were before them.
⁷ Then he made a porch for the throne where he might judge, even the porch of judgment: and it was covered with cedar from one side of the floor to the other.
⁸ And his house where he dwelt had another court within the porch, which was of the like work. Solomon made also an house for Pharaoh's daughter, whom he had taken to wife, like unto this porch.
⁹ All these were of costly stones, according to the measures of hewed stones, sawed with saws, within and without, even from the foundation unto the coping, and so on the outside toward the great court.
¹⁰ And the foundation was of costly stones, even great stones, stones of ten cubits, and stones of eight cubits.
¹¹ And above were costly stones, after the measures of hewed stones, and cedars.
¹² And the great court round about was with three rows of hewed stones, and a row of cedar beams, both for the inner court of the house of the LORD, and for the porch of the house.
¹³ And king Solomon sent and fetched Hiram out of Tyre.
¹⁴ He was a widow's son of the tribe of Naphtali, and his father was a man of Tyre, a worker in brass: and he was filled with wisdom, and understanding, and cunning to work all works in brass. And he came to king Solomon, and wrought all his work.
¹⁵ For he cast two pillars of brass, of eighteen cubits high apiece: and a line of twelve cubits did compass either of them about.
¹⁶ And he made two chapiters of molten brass, to set upon the tops of the pillars: the height of the one chapiter was five cubits, and the height of the other chapiter was five cubits:
¹⁷ And nets of checker work, and wreaths of chain work, for the chapiters which were upon the top of the pillars; seven for the one chapiter, and seven for the other chapiter.
¹⁸ And he made the pillars, and two rows round about upon the one network, to cover the chapiters that were upon the top, with pomegranates: and so did he for the other chapiter.
¹⁹ And the chapiters that were upon the top of the pillars were of lily work in the porch, four cubits.
²⁰ And the chapiters upon the two pillars had pomegranates also above, over against the belly which was by the network: and the pomegranates were two hundred in rows round about upon the other chapiter.
²¹ And he set up the pillars in the porch of the temple: and he set up the right pillar, and called the name thereof Jachin: and he set up the left pillar, and called the name thereof Boaz.
²² And upon the top of the pillars was lily work: so was the work of the pillars finished.
²³ And he made a molten sea, ten cubits from the one brim to the other: it was round all about, and his height was five cubits: and a line of thirty cubits did compass it round about.
²⁴ And under the brim of it round about there were knops compassing it, ten in a cubit, compassing the sea round about: the knops were cast in two rows, when it was cast.
²⁵ It stood upon twelve oxen, three looking toward the north, and three looking toward the west, and three looking toward the south, and three looking toward the east: and the sea was set above upon them, and all their hinder parts were inward.
²⁶ And it was an hand breadth thick, and the brim thereof was wrought like the brim of a cup, with flowers of lilies: it contained two thousand baths.
²⁷ And he made ten bases of brass; four cubits was the length of one base, and four cubits the breadth thereof, and three cubits the height of it.
²⁸ And the work of the bases was on this manner: they had borders, and the borders were between the ledges:
²⁹ And on the borders that were between the ledges were lions, oxen, and cherubims: and upon the ledges there was a base above: and beneath the lions and oxen were certain additions made of thin work.
³⁰ And every base had four brasen wheels, and plates of brass: and the four corners thereof had undersetters: under the laver were undersetters molten, at the side of every addition.
³¹ And the mouth of it within the chapiter and above was a cubit: but the mouth thereof was round after the work of the base, a cubit and an half: and also upon the mouth of it were gravings with their borders, foursquare, not round.
³² And under the borders were four wheels; and the axletrees of the wheels were joined to the base: and the height of a wheel was a cubit and half a cubit.
³³ And the work of the wheels was like the work of a chariot wheel: their axletrees, and their naves, and their felloes, and their spokes, were all molten.
³⁴ And there were four undersetters to the four corners of one base: and the undersetters were of the very base itself.
³⁵ And in the top of the base was there a round compass of half a cubit high: and on the top of the base the ledges thereof and the borders thereof were of the same.
³⁶ For on the plates of the ledges thereof, and on the borders thereof, he graved cherubims, lions, and palm trees, according to the proportion of every one, and additions round about.
³⁷ After this manner he made the ten bases: all of them had one casting, one measure, and one size.
³⁸ Then made he ten lavers of brass: one laver contained forty baths: and every laver was four cubits: and upon every one of the ten bases one laver.
³⁹ And he put five bases on the right side of the house, and five on the left side of the house: and he set the sea on the right side of the house eastward over against the south.
⁴⁰ And Hiram made the lavers, and the shovels, and the basons. So Hiram made an end of doing all the work that he made king Solomon for the house of the LORD:
⁴¹ The two pillars, and the two bowls of the chapiters that were on the top of the two pillars; and the two networks, to cover the two bowls of the chapiters which were upon the top of the pillars;
⁴² And four hundred pomegranates for the two networks, even two rows of pomegranates for one network, to cover the two bowls of the chapiters that were upon the pillars;
⁴³ And the ten bases, and ten lavers on the bases;
⁴⁴ And one sea, and twelve oxen under the sea;
⁴⁵ And the pots, and the shovels, and the basons: and all these vessels, which Hiram made to king Solomon for the house of the LORD, were of bright brass.
⁴⁶ In the plain of Jordan did the king cast them, in the clay ground between Succoth and Zarthan.
⁴⁷ And Solomon left all the vessels unweighed, because they were exceeding many: neither was the weight of the brass found out.
⁴⁸ And Solomon made all the vessels that pertained unto the house of the LORD: the altar of gold, and the table of gold, whereupon the shewbread was,
⁴⁹ And the candlesticks of pure gold, five on the right side, and five on the left, before the oracle, with the flowers, and the lamps, and the tongs of gold,
⁵⁰ And the bowls, and the snuffers, and the basons, and the spoons, and the censers of pure gold; and the hinges of gold, both for the doors of the inner house, the most holy place, and for the doors of the house, to wit, of the temple.
⁵¹ So was ended all the work that king Solomon made for the house of the LORD. And Solomon brought in the things which David his father had dedicated; even the silver, and the gold, and the vessels, did he put among the treasures of the house of the LORD.

¹ Then Solomon assembled the elders of Israel, and all the heads of the tribes, the chief of the fathers of the children of Israel, unto king Solomon in Jerusalem, that they might bring up the ark of the covenant of the LORD out of the city of David, which is Zion.
² And all the men of Israel assembled themselves unto king Solomon at the feast in the month Ethanim, which is the seventh month.
³ And all the elders of Israel came, and the priests took up the ark.
⁴ And they brought up the ark of the LORD, and the tabernacle of the congregation, and all the holy vessels that were in the tabernacle, even those did the priests and the Levites bring up.
⁵ And king Solomon, and all the congregation of Israel, that were assembled unto him, were with him before the ark, sacrificing sheep and oxen, that could not be told nor numbered for multitude.
⁶ And the priests brought in the ark of the covenant of the LORD unto his place, into the oracle of the house, to the most holy place, even under the wings of the cherubims.
⁷ For the cherubims spread forth their two wings over the place of the ark, and the cherubims covered the ark and the staves thereof above.
⁸ And they drew out the staves, that the ends of the staves were seen out in the holy place before the oracle, and they were not seen without: and there they are unto this day.
⁹ There was nothing in the ark save the two tables of stone, which Moses put there at Horeb, when the LORD made a covenant with the children of Israel, when they came out of the land of Egypt.
¹⁰ And it came to pass, when the priests were come out of the holy place, that the cloud filled the house of the LORD,
¹¹ So that the priests could not stand to minister because of the cloud: for the glory of the LORD had filled the house of the LORD.
¹² Then spake Solomon, The LORD said that he would dwell in the thick darkness.
¹³ I have surely built thee an house to dwell in, a settled place for thee to abide in for ever.
¹⁴ And the king turned his face about, and blessed all the congregation of Israel: (and all the congregation of Israel stood;)
¹⁵ And he said, Blessed be the LORD God of Israel, which spake with his mouth unto David my father, and hath with his hand fulfilled it, saying,
¹⁶ Since the day that I brought forth my people Israel out of Egypt, I chose no city out of all the tribes of Israel to build an house, that my name might be therein; but I chose David to be over my people Israel.
¹⁷ And it was in the heart of David my father to build an house for the name of the LORD God of Israel.
¹⁸ And the LORD said unto David my father, Whereas it was in thine heart to build an house unto my name, thou didst well that it was in thine heart.
¹⁹ Nevertheless thou shalt not build the house; but thy son that shall come forth out of thy loins, he shall build the house unto my name.
²⁰ And the LORD hath performed his word that he spake, and I am risen up in the room of David my father, and sit on the throne of Israel, as the LORD promised, and have built an house for the name of the LORD God of Israel.
²¹ And I have set there a place for the ark, wherein is the covenant of the LORD, which he made with our fathers, when he brought them out of the land of Egypt.
²² And Solomon stood before the altar of the LORD in the presence of all the congregation of Israel, and spread forth his hands toward heaven:
²³ And he said, LORD God of Israel, there is no God like thee, in heaven above, or on earth beneath, who keepest covenant and mercy with thy servants that walk before thee with all their heart:
²⁴ Who hast kept with thy servant David my father that thou promisedst him: thou spakest also with thy mouth, and hast fulfilled it with thine hand, as it is this day.
²⁵ Therefore now, LORD God of Israel, keep with thy servant David my father that thou promisedst him, saying, There shall not fail thee a man in my sight to sit on the throne of Israel; so that thy children take heed to their way, that they walk before me as thou hast walked before me.
²⁶ And now, O God of Israel, let thy word, I pray thee, be verified, which thou spakest unto thy servant David my father.
²⁷ But will God indeed dwell on the earth? behold, the heaven and heaven of heavens cannot contain thee; how much less this house that I have builded?
²⁸ Yet have thou respect unto the prayer of thy servant, and to his supplication, O LORD my God, to hearken unto the cry and to the prayer, which thy servant prayeth before thee to day:
²⁹ That thine eyes may be open toward this house night and day, even toward the place of which thou hast said, My name shall be there: that thou mayest hearken unto the prayer which thy servant shall make toward this place.
³⁰ And hearken thou to the supplication of thy servant, and of thy people Israel, when they shall pray toward this place: and hear thou in heaven thy dwelling place: and when thou hearest, forgive.
³¹ If any man trespass against his neighbour, and an oath be laid upon him to cause him to swear, and the oath come before thine altar in this house:
³² Then hear thou in heaven, and do, and judge thy servants, condemning the wicked, to bring his way upon his head; and justifying the righteous, to give him according to his righteousness.
³³ When thy people Israel be smitten down before the enemy, because they have sinned against thee, and shall turn again to thee, and confess thy name, and pray, and make supplication unto thee in this house:
³⁴ Then hear thou in heaven, and forgive the sin of thy people Israel, and bring them again unto the land which thou gavest unto their fathers.
³⁵ When heaven is shut up, and there is no rain, because they have sinned against thee; if they pray toward this place, and confess thy name, and turn from their sin, when thou afflictest them:
³⁶ Then hear thou in heaven, and forgive the sin of thy servants, and of thy people Israel, that thou teach them the good way wherein they should walk, and give rain upon thy land, which thou hast given to thy people for an inheritance.
³⁷ If there be in the land famine, if there be pestilence, blasting, mildew, locust, or if there be caterpiller; if their enemy besiege them in the land of their cities; whatsoever plague, whatsoever sickness there be;
³⁸ What prayer and supplication soever be made by any man, or by all thy people Israel, which shall know every man the plague of his own heart, and spread forth his hands toward this house:
³⁹ Then hear thou in heaven thy dwelling place, and forgive, and do, and give to every man according to his ways, whose heart thou knowest; (for thou, even thou only, knowest the hearts of all the children of men;)
⁴⁰ That they may fear thee all the days that they live in the land which thou gavest unto our fathers.
⁴¹ Moreover concerning a stranger, that is not of thy people Israel, but cometh out of a far country for thy name's sake;
⁴² (For they shall hear of thy great name, and of thy strong hand, and of thy stretched out arm;) when he shall come and pray toward this house;
⁴³ Hear thou in heaven thy dwelling place, and do according to all that the stranger calleth to thee for: that all people of the earth may know thy name, to fear thee, as do thy people Israel; and that they may know that this house, which I have builded, is called by thy name.
⁴⁴ If thy people go out to battle against their enemy, whithersoever thou shalt send them, and shall pray unto the LORD toward the city which thou hast chosen, and toward the house that I have built for thy name:
⁴⁵ Then hear thou in heaven their prayer and their supplication, and maintain their cause.
⁴⁶ If they sin against thee, (for there is no man that sinneth not,) and thou be angry with them, and deliver them to the enemy, so that they carry them away captives unto the land of the enemy, far or near;
⁴⁷ Yet if they shall bethink themselves in the land whither they were carried captives, and repent, and make supplication unto thee in the land of them that carried them captives, saying, We have sinned, and have done perversely, we have committed wickedness;
⁴⁸ And so return unto thee with all their heart, and with all their soul, in the land of their enemies, which led them away captive, and pray unto thee toward their land, which thou gavest unto their fathers, the city which thou hast chosen, and the house which I have built for thy name:
⁴⁹ Then hear thou their prayer and their supplication in heaven thy dwelling place, and maintain their cause,
⁵⁰ And forgive thy people that have sinned against thee, and all their transgressions wherein they have transgressed against thee, and give them compassion before them who carried them captive, that they may have compassion on them:
⁵¹ For they be thy people, and thine inheritance, which thou broughtest forth out of Egypt, from the midst of the furnace of iron:
⁵² That thine eyes may be open unto the supplication of thy servant, and unto the supplication of thy people Israel, to hearken unto them in all that they call for unto thee.
⁵³ For thou didst separate them from among all the people of the earth, to be thine inheritance, as thou spakest by the hand of Moses thy servant, when thou broughtest our fathers out of Egypt, O LORD God.
⁵⁴ And it was so, that when Solomon had made an end of praying all this prayer and supplication unto the LORD, he arose from before the altar of the LORD, from kneeling on his knees with his hands spread up to heaven.
⁵⁵ And he stood, and blessed all the congregation of Israel with a loud voice, saying,
⁵⁶ Blessed be the LORD, that hath given rest unto his people Israel, according to all that he promised: there hath not failed one word of all his good promise, which he promised by the hand of Moses his servant.
⁵⁷ The LORD our God be with us, as he was with our fathers: let him not leave us, nor forsake us:
⁵⁸ That he may incline our hearts unto him, to walk in all his ways, and to keep his commandments, and his statutes, and his judgments, which he commanded our fathers.
⁵⁹ And let these my words, wherewith I have made supplication before the LORD, be nigh unto the LORD our God day and night, that he maintain the cause of his servant, and the cause of his people Israel at all times, as the matter shall require:
⁶⁰ That all the people of the earth may know that the LORD is God, and that there is none else.
⁶¹ Let your heart therefore be perfect with the LORD our God, to walk in his statutes, and to keep his commandments, as at this day.
⁶² And the king, and all Israel with him, offered sacrifice before the LORD.
⁶³ And Solomon offered a sacrifice of peace offerings, which he offered unto the LORD, two and twenty thousand oxen, and an hundred and twenty thousand sheep. So the king and all the children of Israel dedicated the house of the LORD.
⁶⁴ The same day did the king hallow the middle of the court that was before the house of the LORD: for there he offered burnt offerings, and meat offerings, and the fat of the peace offerings: because the brasen altar that was before the LORD was too little to receive the burnt offerings, and meat offerings, and the fat of the peace offerings.
⁶⁵ And at that time Solomon held a feast, and all Israel with him, a great congregation, from the entering in of Hamath unto the river of Egypt, before the LORD our God, seven days and seven days, even fourteen days.
⁶⁶ On the eighth day he sent the people away: and they blessed the king, and went unto their tents joyful and glad of heart for all the goodness that the LORD had done for David his servant, and for Israel his people.
