1Co 7:17-24 (King James)

   ¹⁷ But as God hath distributed to every man, as the Lord hath called every one, so let him walk. And so ordain I in all churches. ¹⁸ Is any man called being circumcised? let him not become uncircumcised. Is any called in uncircumcision? let him not be circumcised. ¹⁹ Circumcision is nothing, and uncircumcision is nothing, but the keeping of the commandments of God. ²⁰ Let every man abide in the same calling wherein he was called. ²¹ Art thou called being a servant? care not for it: but if thou mayest be made free, use it rather. ²² For he that is called in the Lord, being a servant, is the Lord's freeman: likewise also he that is called, being free, is Christ's servant. ²³ Ye are bought with a price; be not ye the servants of men. ²⁴ Brethren, let every man, wherein he is called, therein abide with God.

¹⁷ Par ailleurs, que chacun vive selon la part que le Seigneur lui a attribuée, selon l'appel qu'il a reçu de Dieu. C'est ce que je prescris dans toutes les Eglises. ¹⁸ Quelqu'un était-il circoncis quand il a été appelé? Qu'il ne cherche pas à le cacher. Quelqu'un était-il incirconcis quand il a été appelé? Qu'il ne se fasse pas circoncire. ¹⁹ La circoncision n'est rien et l'incirconcision n'est rien non plus, mais ce qui compte, c'est le respect des commandements de Dieu. ²⁰ Que chacun reste dans la condition qui était la sienne lorsqu'il a été appelé. ²¹ Etais-tu esclave quand tu as été appelé? Ne t'en inquiète pas mais, si tu peux devenir libre, profites-en plutôt. ²² En effet, l'esclave qui a été appelé par le Seigneur est un affranchi du Seigneur; de même, l'homme libre qui a été appelé est un esclave de Christ. ²³ Vous avez été rachetés à un grand prix: ne devenez pas esclaves des hommes. ²⁴ Frères et sœurs, que chacun reste devant Dieu dans la condition qui était la sienne lorsqu'il a été appelé.
