   ¹ But Solomon was building his own house thirteen years, and he finished all his house. ² He built also the house of the forest of Lebanon; the length thereof was an hundred cubits, and the breadth thereof fifty cubits, and the height thereof thirty cubits, upon four rows of cedar pillars, with cedar beams upon the pillars. ³ And it was covered with cedar above upon the beams, that lay on forty five pillars, fifteen in a row. ⁴ And there were windows in three rows, and light was against light in three ranks. ⁵ And all the doors and posts were square, with the windows: and light was against light in three ranks. ⁶ And he made a porch of pillars; the length thereof was fifty cubits, and the breadth thereof thirty cubits: and the porch was before them: and the other pillars and the thick beam were before them. ⁷ Then he made a porch for the throne where he might judge, even the porch of judgment: and it was covered with cedar from one side of the floor to the other. ⁸ And his house where he dwelt had another court within the porch, which was of the like work. Solomon made also an house for Pharaoh's daughter, whom he had taken to wife, like unto this porch. ⁹ All these were of costly stones, according to the measures of hewed stones, sawed with saws, within and without, even from the foundation unto the coping, and so on the outside toward the great court. ¹⁰ And the foundation was of costly stones, even great stones, stones of ten cubits, and stones of eight cubits. ¹¹ And above were costly stones, after the measures of hewed stones, and cedars. ¹² And the great court round about was with three rows of hewed stones, and a row of cedar beams, both for the inner court of the house of the LORD, and for the porch of the house.
   ¹³ And king Solomon sent and fetched Hiram out of Tyre. ¹⁴ He was a widow's son of the tribe of Naphtali, and his father was a man of Tyre, a worker in brass: and he was filled with wisdom, and understanding, and cunning to work all works in brass. And he came to king Solomon, and wrought all his work. ¹⁵ For he cast two pillars of brass, of eighteen cubits high apiece: and a line of twelve cubits did compass either of them about. ¹⁶ And he made two chapiters of molten brass, to set upon the tops of the pillars: the height of the one chapiter was five cubits, and the height of the other chapiter was five cubits: ¹⁷ And nets of checker work, and wreaths of chain work, for the chapiters which were upon the top of the pillars; seven for the one chapiter, and seven for the other chapiter. ¹⁸ And he made the pillars, and two rows round about upon the one network, to cover the chapiters that were upon the top, with pomegranates: and so did he for the other chapiter. ¹⁹ And the chapiters that were upon the top of the pillars were of lily work in the porch, four cubits. ²⁰ And the chapiters upon the two pillars had pomegranates also above, over against the belly which was by the network: and the pomegranates were two hundred in rows round about upon the other chapiter. ²¹ And he set up the pillars in the porch of the temple: and he set up the right pillar, and called the name thereof Jachin: and he set up the left pillar, and called the name thereof Boaz. ²² And upon the top of the pillars was lily work: so was the work of the pillars finished. ²³ And he made a molten sea, ten cubits from the one brim to the other: it was round all about, and his height was five cubits: and a line of thirty cubits did compass it round about. ²⁴ And under the brim of it round about there were knops compassing it, ten in a cubit, compassing the sea round about: the knops were cast in two rows, when it was cast. ²⁵ It stood upon twelve oxen, three looking toward the north, and three looking toward the west, and three looking toward the south, and three looking toward the east: and the sea was set above upon them, and all their hinder parts were inward. ²⁶ And it was an hand breadth thick, and the brim thereof was wrought like the brim of a cup, with flowers of lilies: it contained two thousand baths. ²⁷ And he made ten bases of brass; four cubits was the length of one base, and four cubits the breadth thereof, and three cubits the height of it. ²⁸ And the work of the bases was on this manner: they had borders, and the borders were between the ledges: ²⁹ And on the borders that were between the ledges were lions, oxen, and cherubims: and upon the ledges there was a base above: and beneath the lions and oxen were certain additions made of thin work. ³⁰ And every base had four brasen wheels, and plates of brass: and the four corners thereof had undersetters: under the laver were undersetters molten, at the side of every addition. ³¹ And the mouth of it within the chapiter and above was a cubit: but the mouth thereof was round after the work of the base, a cubit and an half: and also upon the mouth of it were gravings with their borders, foursquare, not round. ³² And under the borders were four wheels; and the axletrees of the wheels were joined to the base: and the height of a wheel was a cubit and half a cubit. ³³ And the work of the wheels was like the work of a chariot wheel: their axletrees, and their naves, and their felloes, and their spokes, were all molten. ³⁴ And there were four undersetters to the four corners of one base: and the undersetters were of the very base itself. ³⁵ And in the top of the base was there a round compass of half a cubit high: and on the top of the base the ledges thereof and the borders thereof were of the same. ³⁶ For on the plates of the ledges thereof, and on the borders thereof, he graved cherubims, lions, and palm trees, according to the proportion of every one, and additions round about. ³⁷ After this manner he made the ten bases: all of them had one casting, one measure, and one size. ³⁸ Then made he ten lavers of brass: one laver contained forty baths: and every laver was four cubits: and upon every one of the ten bases one laver. ³⁹ And he put five bases on the right side of the house, and five on the left side of the house: and he set the sea on the right side of the house eastward over against the south. ⁴⁰ And Hiram made the lavers, and the shovels, and the basons. So Hiram made an end of doing all the work that he made king Solomon for the house of the LORD: ⁴¹ The two pillars, and the two bowls of the chapiters that were on the top of the two pillars; and the two networks, to cover the two bowls of the chapiters which were upon the top of the pillars; ⁴² And four hundred pomegranates for the two networks, even two rows of pomegranates for one network, to cover the two bowls of the chapiters that were upon the pillars; ⁴³ And the ten bases, and ten lavers on the bases; ⁴⁴ And one sea, and twelve oxen under the sea; ⁴⁵ And the pots, and the shovels, and the basons: and all these vessels, which Hiram made to king Solomon for the house of the LORD, were of bright brass. ⁴⁶ In the plain of Jordan did the king cast them, in the clay ground between Succoth and Zarthan. ⁴⁷ And Solomon left all the vessels unweighed, because they were exceeding many: neither was the weight of the brass found out.
   ⁴⁸ And Solomon made all the vessels that pertained unto the house of the LORD: the altar of gold, and the table of gold, whereupon the shewbread was, ⁴⁹ And the candlesticks of pure gold, five on the right side, and five on the left, before the oracle, with the flowers, and the lamps, and the tongs of gold, ⁵⁰ And the bowls, and the snuffers, and the basons, and the spoons, and the censers of pure gold; and the hinges of gold, both for the doors of the inner house, the most holy place, and for the doors of the house, to wit, of the temple. ⁵¹ So was ended all the work that king Solomon made for the house of the LORD. And Solomon brought in the things which David his father had dedicated; even the silver, and the gold, and the vessels, did he put among the treasures of the house of the LORD.

   ¹ Then Solomon assembled the elders of Israel, and all the heads of the tribes, the chief of the fathers of the children of Israel, unto king Solomon in Jerusalem, that they might bring up the ark of the covenant of the LORD out of the city of David, which is Zion. ² And all the men of Israel assembled themselves unto king Solomon at the feast in the month Ethanim, which is the seventh month. ³ And all the elders of Israel came, and the priests took up the ark. ⁴ And they brought up the ark of the LORD, and the tabernacle of the congregation, and all the holy vessels that were in the tabernacle, even those did the priests and the Levites bring up. ⁵ And king Solomon, and all the congregation of Israel, that were assembled unto him, were with him before the ark, sacrificing sheep and oxen, that could not be told nor numbered for multitude. ⁶ And the priests brought in the ark of the covenant of the LORD unto his place, into the oracle of the house, to the most holy place, even under the wings of the cherubims. ⁷ For the cherubims spread forth their two wings over the place of the ark, and the cherubims covered the ark and the staves thereof above. ⁸ And they drew out the staves, that the ends of the staves were seen out in the holy place before the oracle, and they were not seen without: and there they are unto this day. ⁹ There was nothing in the ark save the two tables of stone, which Moses put there at Horeb, when the LORD made a covenant with the children of Israel, when they came out of the land of Egypt. ¹⁰ And it came to pass, when the priests were come out of the holy place, that the cloud filled the house of the LORD, ¹¹ So that the priests could not stand to minister because of the cloud: for the glory of the LORD had filled the house of the LORD.
   ¹² Then spake Solomon, The LORD said that he would dwell in the thick darkness. ¹³ I have surely built thee an house to dwell in, a settled place for thee to abide in for ever. ¹⁴ And the king turned his face about, and blessed all the congregation of Israel: (and all the congregation of Israel stood;) ¹⁵ And he said, Blessed be the LORD God of Israel, which spake with his mouth unto David my father, and hath with his hand fulfilled it, saying, ¹⁶ Since the day that I brought forth my people Israel out of Egypt, I chose no city out of all the tribes of Israel to build an house, that my name might be therein; but I chose David to be over my people Israel. ¹⁷ And it was in the heart of David my father to build an house for the name of the LORD God of Israel. ¹⁸ And the LORD said unto David my father, Whereas it was in thine heart to build an house unto my name, thou didst well that it was in thine heart. ¹⁹ Nevertheless thou shalt not build the house; but thy son that shall come forth out of thy loins, he shall build the house unto my name. ²⁰ And the LORD hath performed his word that he spake, and I am risen up in the room of David my father, and sit on the throne of Israel, as the LORD promised, and have built an house for the name of the LORD God of Israel. ²¹ And I have set there a place for the ark, wherein is the covenant of the LORD, which he made with our fathers, when he brought them out of the land of Egypt.
   ²² And Solomon stood before the altar of the LORD in the presence of all the congregation of Israel, and spread forth his hands toward heaven: ²³ And he said, LORD God of Israel, there is no God like thee, in heaven above, or on earth beneath, who keepest covenant and mercy with thy servants that walk before thee with all their heart: ²⁴ Who hast kept with thy servant David my father that thou promisedst him: thou spakest also with thy mouth, and hast fulfilled it with thine hand, as it is this day. ²⁵ Therefore now, LORD God of Israel, keep with thy servant David my father that thou promisedst him, saying, There shall not fail thee a man in my sight to sit on the throne of Israel; so that thy children take heed to their way, that they walk before me as thou hast walked before me. ²⁶ And now, O God of Israel, let thy word, I pray thee, be verified, which thou spakest unto thy servant David my father. ²⁷ But will God indeed dwell on the earth? behold, the heaven and heaven of heavens cannot contain thee; how much less this house that I have builded? ²⁸ Yet have thou respect unto the prayer of thy servant, and to his supplication, O LORD my God, to hearken unto the cry and to the prayer, which thy servant prayeth before thee to day: ²⁹ That thine eyes may be open toward this house night and day, even toward the place of which thou hast said, My name shall be there: that thou mayest hearken unto the prayer which thy servant shall make toward this place. ³⁰ And hearken thou to the supplication of thy servant, and of thy people Israel, when they shall pray toward this place: and hear thou in heaven thy dwelling place: and when thou hearest, forgive. ³¹ If any man trespass against his neighbour, and an oath be laid upon him to cause him to swear, and the oath come before thine altar in this house: ³² Then hear thou in heaven, and do, and judge thy servants, condemning the wicked, to bring his way upon his head; and justifying the righteous, to give him according to his righteousness. ³³ When thy people Israel be smitten down before the enemy, because they have sinned against thee, and shall turn again to thee, and confess thy name, and pray, and make supplication unto thee in this house: ³⁴ Then hear thou in heaven, and forgive the sin of thy people Israel, and bring them again unto the land which thou gavest unto their fathers. ³⁵ When heaven is shut up, and there is no rain, because they have sinned against thee; if they pray toward this place, and confess thy name, and turn from their sin, when thou afflictest them: ³⁶ Then hear thou in heaven, and forgive the sin of thy servants, and of thy people Israel, that thou teach them the good way wherein they should walk, and give rain upon thy land, which thou hast given to thy people for an inheritance. ³⁷ If there be in the land famine, if there be pestilence, blasting, mildew, locust, or if there be caterpiller; if their enemy besiege them in the land of their cities; whatsoever plague, whatsoever sickness there be; ³⁸ What prayer and supplication soever be made by any man, or by all thy people Israel, which shall know every man the plague of his own heart, and spread forth his hands toward this house: ³⁹ Then hear thou in heaven thy dwelling place, and forgive, and do, and give to every man according to his ways, whose heart thou knowest; (for thou, even thou only, knowest the hearts of all the children of men;) ⁴⁰ That they may fear thee all the days that they live in the land which thou gavest unto our fathers. ⁴¹ Moreover concerning a stranger, that is not of thy people Israel, but cometh out of a far country for thy name's sake; ⁴² (For they shall hear of thy great name, and of thy strong hand, and of thy stretched out arm;) when he shall come and pray toward this house; ⁴³ Hear thou in heaven thy dwelling place, and do according to all that the stranger calleth to thee for: that all people of the earth may know thy name, to fear thee, as do thy people Israel; and that they may know that this house, which I have builded, is called by thy name. ⁴⁴ If thy people go out to battle against their enemy, whithersoever thou shalt send them, and shall pray unto the LORD toward the city which thou hast chosen, and toward the house that I have built for thy name: ⁴⁵ Then hear thou in heaven their prayer and their supplication, and maintain their cause. ⁴⁶ If they sin against thee, (for there is no man that sinneth not,) and thou be angry with them, and deliver them to the enemy, so that they carry them away captives unto the land of the enemy, far or near; ⁴⁷ Yet if they shall bethink themselves in the land whither they were carried captives, and repent, and make supplication unto thee in the land of them that carried them captives, saying, We have sinned, and have done perversely, we have committed wickedness; ⁴⁸ And so return unto thee with all their heart, and with all their soul, in the land of their enemies, which led them away captive, and pray unto thee toward their land, which thou gavest unto their fathers, the city which thou hast chosen, and the house which I have built for thy name: ⁴⁹ Then hear thou their prayer and their supplication in heaven thy dwelling place, and maintain their cause, ⁵⁰ And forgive thy people that have sinned against thee, and all their transgressions wherein they have transgressed against thee, and give them compassion before them who carried them captive, that they may have compassion on them: ⁵¹ For they be thy people, and thine inheritance, which thou broughtest forth out of Egypt, from the midst of the furnace of iron: ⁵² That thine eyes may be open unto the supplication of thy servant, and unto the supplication of thy people Israel, to hearken unto them in all that they call for unto thee. ⁵³ For thou didst separate them from among all the people of the earth, to be thine inheritance, as thou spakest by the hand of Moses thy servant, when thou broughtest our fathers out of Egypt, O LORD God.
   ⁵⁴ And it was so, that when Solomon had made an end of praying all this prayer and supplication unto the LORD, he arose from before the altar of the LORD, from kneeling on his knees with his hands spread up to heaven. ⁵⁵ And he stood, and blessed all the congregation of Israel with a loud voice, saying, ⁵⁶ Blessed be the LORD, that hath given rest unto his people Israel, according to all that he promised: there hath not failed one word of all his good promise, which he promised by the hand of Moses his servant. ⁵⁷ The LORD our God be with us, as he was with our fathers: let him not leave us, nor forsake us: ⁵⁸ That he may incline our hearts unto him, to walk in all his ways, and to keep his commandments, and his statutes, and his judgments, which he commanded our fathers. ⁵⁹ And let these my words, wherewith I have made supplication before the LORD, be nigh unto the LORD our God day and night, that he maintain the cause of his servant, and the cause of his people Israel at all times, as the matter shall require: ⁶⁰ That all the people of the earth may know that the LORD is God, and that there is none else. ⁶¹ Let your heart therefore be perfect with the LORD our God, to walk in his statutes, and to keep his commandments, as at this day.
   ⁶² And the king, and all Israel with him, offered sacrifice before the LORD. ⁶³ And Solomon offered a sacrifice of peace offerings, which he offered unto the LORD, two and twenty thousand oxen, and an hundred and twenty thousand sheep. So the king and all the children of Israel dedicated the house of the LORD. ⁶⁴ The same day did the king hallow the middle of the court that was before the house of the LORD: for there he offered burnt offerings, and meat offerings, and the fat of the peace offerings: because the brasen altar that was before the LORD was too little to receive the burnt offerings, and meat offerings, and the fat of the peace offerings. ⁶⁵ And at that time Solomon held a feast, and all Israel with him, a great congregation, from the entering in of Hamath unto the river of Egypt, before the LORD our God, seven days and seven days, even fourteen days. ⁶⁶ On the eighth day he sent the people away: and they blessed the king, and went unto their tents joyful and glad of heart for all the goodness that the LORD had done for David his servant, and for Israel his people.

   ¹ Salomon bâtit aussi sa maison, et l'acheva toute en treize ans. ² Il bâtit aussi la maison du parc du Liban, de cent coudées de long, et de cinquante coudées de large, et de trente coudées de haut, sur quatre rangées de colonnes de cèdre ; et sur les colonnes il y avait des poutres de cèdre. ³ Il y avait aussi un couvert de bois de cèdre par dessus les chambres, qui était sur quarante-cinq colonnes, rangées de quinze en quinze. ⁴ Et il y avait trois rangées de fenêtrages ; et une fenêtre répondait à l'autre en trois endroits. ⁵ Et toutes les portes et tous les poteaux étaient carrés, avec les fenêtres ; et une fenêtre répondait à l'autre vis-à-vis en trois endroits. ⁶ Il fit aussi un porche tout de colonnes, de cinquante coudées de long, et de trente coudées de large ; et ce porche était au devant des colonnes [de la maison], de sorte que les colonnes et les poutres étaient au devant d'elles. ⁷ Il fit aussi un porche pour le trône sur lequel il rendait ses jugements, [appelé] le Porche du jugement, et on le couvrit de cèdre depuis un bout du sol jusqu'à l'autre. ⁸ Et dans sa maison où il demeurait il y avait un autre parvis au dedans du porche, qui était du même ouvrage. Salomon fit aussi à la fille de Pharaon, qu'il avait épousée, une maison [bâtie] comme ce porche. ⁹ Toutes ces choses étaient de pierres de prix, de la même mesure que les pierres de taille, sciées à la scie, en dedans et en dehors, depuis le fond jusqu'aux corniches, et par dehors jusqu'au grand parvis. ¹⁰ Le fondement était aussi de pierres de prix, de grandes pierres, des pierres de dix coudées, et des pierres de huit coudées. ¹¹ Et par dessus il y avait des pierres de prix, de la même mesure que les pierres de taille, et que [le bois de] cèdre. ¹² Et le grand parvis avait aussi tout alentour trois rangées de pierres de taille, et une rangée de poutres de cèdre, comme le parvis de dedans la maison de l'Eternel, et le porche de la maison.
   ¹³ Or le Roi Salomon avait fait venir de Tyr Hiram ; ¹⁴ fils d'une femme veuve de la Tribu de Nephthali, le père duquel était Tyrien, travaillant en cuivre ; fort expert, intelligent, et savant pour faire toutes sortes d'ouvrages d'airain ; il vint donc vers le Roi Salomon, et fit tout son ouvrage. ¹⁵ Il fondit deux colonnes d'airain, la hauteur de l'une des colonne était de dix-huit coudées ; et un réseau de douze coudées entourait l'autre colonne. ¹⁶ Il fit aussi deux chapiteaux d'airain fondu pour mettre sur les sommets des colonnes ; et la hauteur de l'un des chapiteaux était de cinq coudées, et la hauteur de l'autre chapiteau était aussi de cinq coudées. ¹⁷ Il y avait des entrelassures en forme de rets, de filets entortillés en façon de chaînes, pour les chapiteaux qui étaient sur le sommet des colonnes, sept pour l'un des chapiteaux, et sept pour l'autre. ¹⁸ Et il les appropria aux colonnes, avec deux rangs de pommes de grenade sur un rets, tout autour, pour couvrir l'[un] des chapiteaux qui était sur le sommet d'une des colonnes, et il fit la même chose pour l'autre chapiteau. ¹⁹ Et les chapiteaux qui étaient sur le sommet des colonnes, étaient en façon de fleurs de lis, hauts de quatre coudées [pour mettre] au porche. ²⁰ Or les chapiteaux étaient sur les deux colonnes, ils étaient, [dis-je], au dessus, depuis l'endroit du ventre qui était au delà du rets. Il y avait aussi deux cents pommes de grenade, [disposées] par rangs tout autour, sur le second chapiteau. ²¹ Il dressa donc les colonnes au porche du Temple, et mit l'une à main droite et la nomma Jakin ; et il mit l'autre à main gauche, et la nomma Boaz. ²² Et [on posa] sur le chapiteau des colonnes l'ouvrage fait en façon de fleurs de lis ; ainsi l'ouvrage des colonnes fut achevé. ²³ Il fit aussi une mer de fonte qui avait dix coudées d'un bord à l'autre ; ronde tout autour, de cinq coudées de haut ; et un cordon de trente coudées l'environnait tout autour. ²⁴ Et il y avait tout autour, au dessous de son bord des figures de boeufs en relief, qui l'environnaient, dix à chaque coudée, lesquelles entouraient la mer tout autour. [Il y avait] deux rangées de ces figures de boeufs en relief, jetées en fonte. ²⁵ Et elle était posée sur douze boeufs, dont trois regardaient le Septentrion et trois regardaient l'Occident, et trois regardaient le Midi, et trois regardaient l'Orient. La mer était sur leurs dos, et tout le derrière de leurs corps [était tourné] en dedans. ²⁶ Son épaisseur était d'une paume, et son bord [était] comme le bord d'une coupe [à façon] de fleurs de lis ; elle contenait deux mille baths. ²⁷ Il fit aussi dix soubassements d'airain, ayant chacun quatre coudées de long, et quatre coudées de large, et trois coudées de haut. ²⁸ Or l'ouvrage de [chaque] soubassement était de telle manière, qu'ils avaient des châssis enchâssés entre des embâtements. ²⁹ Et sur ces châssis, qui étaient entre les embâtements, il y avait des [figures] de lions, de boeufs, et de Chérubins. Et au dessus des embâtements il y avait un bassin sur le haut ; et au dessous des [figures de] lions et de boeufs il y avait des corniches faites en pente. ³⁰ Et chaque soubassement avait quatre roues d'airain, avec des ais d'airain ; et il y avait aux quatre angles certaines épaulières, qui [se rendaient] au dessous du cuvier au delà de toutes les corniches, sans qu'on s'en aperçût. ³¹ Or l'ouverture du cuvier, depuis le dedans du chapiteau en haut, était d'une coudée ; mais l'ouverture du chapiteau était ronde de la façon du bassin, et elle était d'une coudée et demie, et sur les châssis de cette ouverture il y avait des gravures ; ces ouvertures avaient aussi des châssis carrés, et non pas ronds. ³² Et les quatre roues étaient au dessous des châssis ; et les essieux des roues [tenaient] au soubassement ; chaque roue avait la hauteur d'une coudée et demie. ³³ Et la façon des roues était selon la façon des roues de chariot ; leurs essieux, leurs jantes, leurs moyeux, et leurs rayons étaient tous de fonte. ³⁴ Il y avait aussi quatre épaulières aux quatre angles de chaque soubassement, qui en [étaient tirées]. ³⁵ Il y avait aussi au sommet de chaque soubassement une demi-coudée de hauteur, qui était ronde tout autour ; de sorte que chaque soubassement avait à son sommet ses tenons et ses châssis, qui en [étaient tirés]. ³⁶ Puis on grava les ais des tenons, et des châssis de chaque soubassement [de figures] de Chérubins, de lions et de palmes, selon le plan de chaque [tenon, châssis], et corniche tout autour. ³⁷ Il fit les dix soubassements de cette même façon, ayant tous une même fonte, une même mesure, et une même entailleure. ³⁸ Il fit aussi dix cuviers d'airain, dont chacun contenait quarante baths, [et] chaque cuvier était de quatre coudées, chaque cuvier était sur chacun des dix soubassements. ³⁹ Et on mit cinq soubassements au côté droit du Temple, et cinq au côté gauche du Temple ; et on plaça la mer au côté droit du Temple, tirant vers l'µOrient du côté du Midi. ⁴⁰ Ainsi Hiram fit des cuviers, et des racloirs, et des bassins, et il acheva de faire tout l'ouvrage qu'il faisait au Roi Salomon pour le Temple de l'Eternel. ⁴¹ [Savoir], deux colonnes, et les deux bassins des chapiteaux qui étaient sur le sommet des colonnes ; et deux réseaux pour couvrir les deux bassins qui étaient sur le sommet des colonnes ; ⁴² Et quatre cents pommes de grenade pour les deux réseaux, de sorte [qu'il y avait] deux rangées de pommes de grenade pour chaque réseau, afin de couvrir les deux bassins des chapiteaux, qui étaient sur les colonnes ; ⁴³ Dix soubassements ; et dix cuviers [pour mettre] sur les soubassements ; ⁴⁴ Et une mer, et douze boeufs sous la mer ; ⁴⁵ Et des chaudrons, et des racloirs, et des bassins. Tous ces vaisseaux que Hiram fit au Roi Salomon pour le Temple de l'Eternel, étaient d'airain poli. ⁴⁶ Le Roi les fit fondre en la plaine du Jourdain, dans une terre grasse, entre Succoth et Tsartan. ⁴⁷ Et Salomon ne pesa aucun de ces vaisseaux, parce qu'ils étaient en fort grand nombre ; de sorte qu'on ne rechercha point le poids du cuivre.
   ⁴⁸ Salomon fit aussi tous les ustensiles pour le Temple de l'Eternel, [savoir] l'autel d'or, et les tables d'or, sur lesquelles étaient les pains de proposition ; ⁴⁹ Et cinq chandeliers de fin or à main droite, et cinq à main gauche devant l'Oracle, et les fleurs et les lampes, et les pincettes d'or ; ⁵⁰ Et les coupes, les serpes, les bassins, les tasses, et les encensoirs de fin or. Les gonds même des portes de la maison de dedans, [c'est-à-dire], du lieu Très-saint, [et] des portes de la maison, [c'est-à-dire] du Temple, étaient d'or. ⁵¹ Ainsi tout l'ouvrage que le Roi Salomon fit pour la maison de l'Eternel fut achevé ; puis il y fit apporter ce que David son père avait consacré, l'argent et l'or, et les vaisseaux, et le mit dans les trésors de la maison de l'Eternel.

1 Rois 8

La dédicace du Temple, et la prière de Salomon sur ce sujet.

   ¹ Alors Salomon assembla devant lui à Jérusalem les Anciens d'Israël, et tous les chefs des Tribus, les principaux des pères des enfants d'Israël, pour transporter l'Arche de l'alliance de l'Eternel de la Cité de David, qui est Sion. ² Et tous ceux d'Israël furent assemblés vers le Roi Salomon, au mois d'Ethanim, qui est le septième mois, le jour même de la fête. ³ Tous les Anciens d'Israël donc vinrent ; et les Sacrificateurs portèrent l'Arche. ⁴ Ainsi on transporta l'Arche de l'Eternel, et le Tabernacle d'assignation, et tous les saints vaisseaux qui étaient au Tabernacle ; les Sacrificateurs, dis-je, et les Lévites les emportèrent. ⁵ Or le Roi Salomon, et toute l'assemblée d'Israël qui s'était rendue auprès de lui, étaient ensemble devant l'Arche [et] ils sacrifiaient du gros et du menu bétail en si grand nombre, qu'on ne le pouvait ni nombrer ni compter. ⁶ Et les Sacrificateurs portèrent l'Arche de l'Alliance de l'Eternel en son lieu, dans l'Oracle de la maison, au lieu Très-saint, sous les ailes des Chérubins. ⁷ Car les Chérubins étendaient les ailes sur l'endroit où devait être l'Arche, et les Chérubins couvraient l'Arche et ses barres, par dessus. ⁸ Et ils retirèrent les barres en dedans, de sorte que les bouts des barres se voyaient du lieu Saint sur le devant de l'Oracle, mais ils ne se voyaient point au dehors ; et elles sont demeurées là jusqu'à ce jour. ⁹ Il n'y avait rien dans l'Arche que les deux tables de pierre que Moïse y avait mises en Horeb, quand l'Eternel traita [alliance] avec les enfants d'Israël, lorsqu'ils furent sortis du pays d'Egypte. ¹⁰ Or il arriva que comme les Sacrificateurs furent sortis du lieu Saint, une nuée remplit la maison de l'Eternel. ¹¹ De sorte que les Sacrificateurs ne se pouvaient tenir debout pour faire le service, à cause de la nuée ; car la gloire de l'Eternel avait rempli la maison de l'Eternel.
   ¹² Alors Salomon dit : L'Eternel a dit qu'il habiterait dans l'obscurité. ¹³ J'ai achevé, [ô Eternel !] de bâtir une maison pour ta demeure, un domicile fixe, afin que tu y habites éternellement. ¹⁴ Et le Roi tournant son visage, bénit toute l'assemblée d'Israël ; car toute l'assemblée d'Israël se tenait [là] debout. ¹⁵ Et il dit : Béni soit l'Eternel, le Dieu d'Israël, qui a parlé de sa propre bouche à David mon père, et qui l'a accompli par sa puissance, et a dit : ¹⁶ Depuis le jour que je retirai mon peuple d'Israël hors d'Egypte, je n'ai choisi aucune ville d'entre toutes les Tribus d'Israël pour y bâtir une maison, afin que mon Nom y fût ; mais j'ai choisi David, afin qu'il eût la charge de mon peuple d'Israël. ¹⁷ Et David mon père avait au coeur de bâtir une maison au Nom de l'Eternel, le Dieu d'Israël. ¹⁸ Mais l'Eternel dit à David mon père : Quant à ce que tu as eu au coeur de bâtir une maison à mon Nom, tu as bien fait d'avoir eu cela au coeur. ¹⁹ Néanmoins tu ne bâtiras point cette maison, mais ton fils qui sortira de tes reins, sera celui qui bâtira cette maison à mon Nom. ²⁰ L'Eternel a donc accompli sa parole, qu'il avait prononcée, et j'ai succédé à David mon père, et je suis assis sur le trône d'Israël, comme l'Eternel en avait parlé ; et j'ai bâti cette maison au Nom de l'Eternel le Dieu d'Israël. ²¹ Et j'ai assigné ici un lieu à l'Arche, dans laquelle est l'alliance de l'Eternel, qu'il traita avec nos pères, quand il les eut tirés hors du pays d'Egypte.
   ²² Ensuite Salomon se tint devant l'autel de l'Eternel en la présence de toute l'assemblée d'Israël, et ayant ses mains étendues vers les cieux, ²³ Il dit: Ô Eternel Dieu d'Israël ! il n'y a point de Dieu semblable à toi dans les cieux en haut, ni sur la terre en bas ; tu gardes l'alliance et la gratuité envers tes serviteurs, qui marchent de tout leur coeur devant ta face. ²⁴ [Et] tu as tenu à ton serviteur David mon père ce dont tu lui avais parlé ; car ce dont tu lui avais parlé de ta bouche, tu l'as accompli de ta main, comme [il paraît] aujourd'hui. ²⁵ Maintenant donc, ô Eternel Dieu d'Israël ! tiens à ton serviteur David mon père, ce dont tu lui as parlé, en disant : Jamais il ne te sera retranché de devant ma face un [successeur] pour être assis sur le trône d'Israël, pourvu seulement que tes fils prennent garde à leur voie, afin de marcher devant ma face, comme tu y as marché. ²⁶ Et maintenant, ô Dieu d'Israël ! je te prie, que ta parole, laquelle tu as prononcée à ton serviteur David mon père, soit ratifiée. ²⁷ Mais Dieu habiterait-il effectivement sur la terre ? Voilà, les cieux, même les cieux des cieux ne te peuvent contenir ; combien moins cette maison que j'ai bâtie. ²⁸ Toutefois, ô Eternel mon Dieu ! aie égard à la prière de ton serviteur, et à sa supplication, pour entendre le cri et la prière que ton serviteur te fait aujourd'hui ; ²⁹ [Qui est], que tes yeux soient ouverts jour et nuit sur cette maison, le lieu dont tu as dit : Mon nom sera là, pour exaucer la prière que ton serviteur fait en ce lieu-ci. ³⁰ Exauce donc la supplication de ton serviteur, et de ton peuple d'Israël quand ils te prieront en ce lieu-ci ; exauce[-les], [dis-je], du lieu de ta demeure, des cieux ; exauce, et pardonne. ³¹ Quand quelqu'un aura péché contre son prochain, et qu'on lui aura déféré le serment pour le faire jurer, et que le serment aura été fait devant ton autel dans cette maison ; ³² Exauce[-les] toi des cieux, et exécute [ce que portera l'exécration du serment], et juge tes serviteurs en condamnant le méchant, [et] lui rendant selon ce qu'il aura fait ; et en justifiant le juste, et lui rendant selon sa justice. ³³ Quand ton peuple d'Israël aura été battu par l'ennemi, à cause qu'ils auront péché contre toi, si ensuite ils se retournent vers toi, en réclamant ton nom, et en te faisant des prières et des supplications dans cette maison ; ³⁴ Exauce[-les], toi, des cieux, et pardonne le péché de ton peuple d'Israël, et ramène-les dans la terre que tu as donnée à leurs pères. ³⁵ Quand les cieux seront resserrés, et qu'il n'y aura point de pluie, à cause que [ceux d'Israël] auront péché contre toi, s'ils te font prière en ce lieu-ci, et s'ils réclament ton Nom, et s'ils se détournent de leurs péchés, parce que tu les auras affligés ; ³⁶ Exauce[-les], toi, des cieux, et pardonne le péché de tes serviteurs, et de ton peuple d'Israël, lorsque tu leur auras enseigné le bon chemin, par lequel ils doivent marcher, et envoie-leur la pluie sur la terre que tu as donnée à ton peuple pour héritage. ³⁷ Quand il y aura famine au pays, ou la mortalité ; quand il y aura brûlure, nielle, sauterelles, et vermisseaux, même quand les ennemis les assiégeront jusques dans leur propre pays, [ou qu'il y aura plaie, ou] maladie ; ³⁸ Quelque prière, et quelque supplication que te fasse quelque homme que ce soit de tout ton peuple d'Israël, selon qu'ils auront connu chacun la plaie de son cœur ; et que chacun aura étendu ses mains vers cette maison ; ³⁹ Alors exauce[-les], toi, des cieux, du domicile arrêté de ta demeure, et pardonne, et fais, et rends à chacun selon toutes ses voies, parce que tu auras connu son coeur ; car tu connais toi-seul le coeur de tous les hommes ; ⁴⁰ Afin qu'ils te craignent tout le temps qu'ils vivront sur la terre que tu as donnée à nos pères. ⁴¹ Et même lorsque l'étranger qui ne sera pas de ton peuple d'Israël, mais qui sera venu d'un pays éloigné pour l'amour de ton Nom ; ⁴² (Car on entendra parler de ton Nom, qui est grand, et de ta main forte, et de ton bras étendu ;) lors donc qu'il sera venu, et qu'il te priera dans cette maison ; ⁴³ Exauce[-le], toi, des cieux, du domicile arrêté de ta demeure, et fais selon tout ce pour quoi cet étranger aura crié vers toi ; afin que tous les peuples de la terre connaissent ton Nom pour te craindre, comme ton peuple d'Israël ; et pour connaître que ton Nom est réclamé sur cette maison que j'ai bâtie. ⁴⁴ Quand ton peuple sera sorti en guerre contre son ennemi, dans le chemin par lequel tu l'auras envoyé, s'ils font prière à l'Eternel en regardant vers cette ville que tu as choisie, et vers cette maison que j'ai bâtie à ton Nom ; ⁴⁵ Alors exauce des cieux leur prière et leur supplication, et maintiens leur droit. ⁴⁶ Quand ils auront péché contre toi, car il n'y a point d'homme qui ne pèche, et que tu seras irrité contr'eux, tellement que tu les auras livrés entre les [mains] de leurs ennemis, et que ceux qui les auront pris les auront menés captifs en pays ennemi, soit loin, soit près ; ⁴⁷ Si au pays où ils auront été menés captifs, ils reviennent à eux-mêmes, et se repentant ils te prient au pays de ceux qui les auront emmenés captifs, en disant : Nous avons péché, nous avons fait iniquité, et nous avons fait méchamment ; ⁴⁸ S'ils retournent donc à toi de tout leur coeur et de toute leur âme, dans le pays de leurs ennemis, qui les auront emmenés captifs, et s'ils t'adressent leurs prières, en regardant vers leur pays que tu as donné à leurs pères, vers cette ville que tu as choisie, et vers cette maison que j'ai bâtie à ton Nom ; ⁴⁹ Alors exauce des cieux, du domicile arrêté de ta demeure, leur prière, et leur supplication, et maintiens leur droit. ⁵⁰ Et pardonne à ton peuple qui aura péché contre toi, et même [pardonne-leur] tous les crimes qu'ils auront commis contre toi, et fais que ceux qui les auront emmenés captifs aient pitié d'eux, et leur fassent grâce. ⁵¹ Car ils sont ton peuple et ton héritage, que tu as tiré hors d'Egypte, du milieu d'un fourneau de fer. ⁵² Que tes yeux donc soient ouverts sur la prière de ton serviteur, et sur la supplication de ton peuple d'Israël, pour les exaucer dans tout ce pourquoi ils crieront à toi. ⁵³ Car tu les as mis à part pour toi d'entre tous les peuples de la terre, afin qu'ils fussent ton héritage, comme tu en as parlé par le moyen de Moïse ton serviteur, quand tu retiras nos pères hors d'Egypte, ô Seigneur Eternel !
   ⁵⁴ Or aussitôt que Salomon eut achevé de faire toute cette prière, et cette supplication à l'Eternel, il se leva de devant l'autel de l'Eternel, et n'étant plus à genoux, mais ayant [encore] les mains étendues vers les cieux ; ⁵⁵ Il se tint debout, et bénit toute l'assemblée d'Israël à haute voix, en disant : ⁵⁶ Béni soit l'Eternel, qui a donné du repos à son peuple d'Israël, comme il en avait parlé ; il n'est pas tombé [à terre] un seul mot de toutes les bonnes paroles qu'il avait prononcées par le moyen de Moïse son serviteur. ⁵⁷ Que l'Eternel notre Dieu soit avec nous, comme il a été avec nos pères ; qu'il ne nous abandonne point, et qu'il ne nous délaisse point. ⁵⁸ [Mais] qu'il incline notre coeur vers lui, afin que nous marchions en toutes ses voies, et que nous gardions ses commandements, ses statuts, et ses ordonnances qu'il a prescrites à nos pères ; ⁵⁹ Et que mes paroles, par lesquelles j'ai fait supplication à l'Eternel, soient présentes devant l'Eternel notre Dieu jour et nuit ; afin qu'il maintienne le droit de son serviteur, et le droit de son peuple d'Israël, selon qu'il en aura besoin chaque jour. ⁶⁰ Afin que tous les peuples de la terre connaissent que c'est l'Eternel qui est Dieu, [et] qu'il n'y en a point d'autre ; ⁶¹ Et afin que votre coeur soit pur envers l'Eternel votre Dieu, pour marcher dans ses statuts, et pour garder ses commandements, comme aujourd'hui.
   ⁶² Et le Roi, et tout Israël avec lui, sacrifièrent des sacrifices devant l'Eternel. ⁶³ Et Salomon offrit un sacrifice de prospérités, qu'il sacrifia à l'Eternel, [savoir], vingt et deux mille boeufs, et six vingt mille brebis. Ainsi le Roi et tous les enfants d'Israël dédièrent la maison de l'Eternel. ⁶⁴ En ce jour-là le Roi consacra le milieu du parvis, qui était devant la maison de l'Eternel ; car il offrit là les holocaustes, et les gâteaux, et les graisses des sacrifices de prospérités, parce que l'autel d'airain qui était devant l'Eternel, était trop petit pour contenir les holocaustes, et les gâteaux, et les graisses des sacrifices de prospérités. ⁶⁵ Et en ce temps-là Salomon célébra une fête solennelle ; et avec lui tout Israël qui était une grande assemblée, [venue] depuis où l'on entre en Hamath jusqu'au torrent d'Egypte, devant l'Eternel notre Dieu, et cela dura sept jours, et sept autres jours, ce qui fut quatorze jours. ⁶⁶ [Et] au huitième jour il renvoya le peuple, qui bénit le Roi ; puis ils s'en allèrent dans leurs tentes, en se réjouissant, et ayant le coeur plein de joie à cause de tout le bien que l'Eternel avait fait à David son serviteur, et à Israël son peuple.

   ³⁷ In hunc modum fecit decem bases, fusura una, et mensura, sculpturaque consimili.
   ³⁸ Fecit quoque decem luteres æneos : quadraginta batos capiebat luter unus, eratque quatuor cubitorum : singulos quoque luteres per singulas, id est, decem bases, posuit.
   ³⁹ Et constituit decem bases, quinque ad dexteram partem templi, et quinque ad sinistram : mare autem posuit ad dexteram partem templi contra orientem ad meridiem.
   ⁴⁰ Fecit ergo Hiram lebetes, et scutras, et hamulas, et perfecit omne opus regis Salomonis in templo Domini.
   ⁴¹ Columnas duas, et funiculos capitellorum super capitella columnarum duos : et retiacula duo, ut operirent duos funiculos qui erant super capita columnarum.
   ⁴² Et malogranata quadringenta in duobus retiaculis : duos versus malogranatorum in retiaculis singulis, ad operiendos funiculos capitellorum qui erant super capita columnarum.
   ⁴³ Et bases decem, et luteres decem super bases.
   ⁴⁴ Et mare unum, et boves duodecim subter mare.
   ⁴⁵ Et lebetes, et scutras, et hamulas, omnia vasa quæ fecit Hiram regi Salomoni in domo Domini, de auricalco erant.
   ⁴⁶ In campestri regione Jordanis fudit ea rex in argillosa terra, inter Sochoth et Sarthan.
   ⁴⁷ Et posuit Salomon omnia vasa : propter multitudinem autem nimiam non erat pondus æris.
   ⁴⁸ Fecitque Salomon omnia vasa in domo Domini : altare aureum, et mensam super quam ponerentur panes propositionis, auream :
   ⁴⁹ et candelabra aurea, quinque ad dexteram, et quinque ad sinistram contra oraculum, ex auro puro : et quasi lilii flores, et lucernas desuper aureas : et forcipes aureos,
   ⁵⁰ et hydrias, et fuscinulas, et phialas, et mortariola, et thuribula, de auro purissimo : et cardines ostiorum domus interioris Sancti sanctorum, et ostiorum domus templi, ex auro erant.
   ⁵¹ Et perfecit omne opus quod faciebat Salomon in domo Domini, et intulit quæ sanctificaverat David pater suus, argentum, et aurum, et vasa, reposuitque in thesauris domus Domini.

   ¹ Tunc congregati sunt omnes majores natu Israël cum principibus tribuum, et duces familiarum filiorum Israël, ad regem Salomonem in Jerusalem, ut deferrent arcam fœderis Domini de civitate David, id est, de Sion.
   ² Convenitque ad regem Salomonem universus Israël in mense Ethanim, in solemni die : ipse est mensis septimus.
   ³ Veneruntque cuncti senes de Israël, et tulerunt arcam sacerdotes,
   ⁴ et portaverunt arcam Domini, et tabernaculum fœderis, et omnia vasa sanctuarii quæ erant in tabernaculo : et ferebant ea sacerdotes et Levitæ.
   ⁵ Rex autem Salomon, et omnis multitudo Israël quæ convenerat ad eum, gradiebatur cum illo ante arcam, et immolabant oves et boves absque æstimatione et numero.
   ⁶ Et intulerunt sacerdotes arcam fœderis Domini in locum suum, in oraculum templi, in Sanctum sanctorum, subter alas cherubim.
   ⁷ Siquidem cherubim expandebant alas super locum arcæ, et protegebant arcam, et vectes ejus desuper.
   ⁸ Cumque eminerent vectes, et apparerent summitates eorum foris sanctuarium ante oraculum, non apparebant ultra extrinsecus, qui et fuerunt ibi usque in præsentem diem.
   ⁹ In arca autem non erat aliud nisi duæ tabulæ lapideæ quas posuerat in ea Moyses in Horeb, quando pepigit Dominus fœdus cum filiis Israël, cum egrederentur de terra Ægypti.
   ¹⁰ Factum est autem cum exissent sacerdotes de sanctuario, nebula implevit domum Domini,
   ¹¹ et non poterant sacerdotes stare et ministrare propter nebulam : impleverat enim gloria Domini domum Domini.
   ¹² Tunc ait Salomon : Dominus dixit ut habitaret in nebula.
   ¹³ Ædificans ædificavi domum in habitaculum tuum : firmissimum solium tuum in sempiternum.
   ¹⁴ Convertitque rex faciem suam, et benedixit omni ecclesiæ Israël : omnis enim ecclesia Israël stabat.
   ¹⁵ Et ait Salomon : Benedictus Dominus Deus Israël, qui locutus est ore suo ad David patrem meum, et in manibus ejus perfecit, dicens :
   ¹⁶ A die qua eduxi populum meum Israël de Ægypto, non elegi civitatem de universis tribubus Israël, ut ædificaretur domus, et esset nomen meum ibi : sed elegi David ut esset super populum meum Israël.
   ¹⁷ Voluitque David pater meus ædificare domum nomini Domini Dei Israël :
   ¹⁸ et ait Dominus ad David patrem meum : Quod cogitasti in corde tuo ædificare domum nomini meo, bene fecisti, hoc ipsum mente tractans.
   ¹⁹ Verumtamen tu non ædificabis mihi domum, sed filius tuus, qui egredietur de renibus tuis, ipse ædificabit domum nomini meo.
   ²⁰ Confirmavit Dominus sermonem suum quem locutus est : stetique pro David patre meo, et sedi super thronum Israël, sicut locutus est Dominus : et ædificavi domum nomini Domini Dei Israël.
   ²¹ Et constitui ibi locum arcæ in qua fœdus Domini est, quod percussit cum patribus nostris quando egressi sunt de terra Ægypti.
   ²² Stetit autem Salomon ante altare Domini in conspectu ecclesiæ Israël, et expandit manus suas in cælum,
   ²³ et ait : Domine Deus Israël, non est similis tui deus in cælo desuper, et super terram deorsum : qui custodis pactum et misericordiam servis tuis qui ambulant coram te in toto corde suo.
   ²⁴ Qui custodisti servo tuo David patri meo quæ locutus es ei : ore locutus es, et manibus perfecisti, ut hæc dies probat.
   ²⁵ Nunc igitur Domine Deus Israël, conserva famulo tuo David patri meo quæ locutus es ei, dicens : Non auferetur de te vir coram me, qui sedeat super thronum Israël : ita tamen si custodierint filii tui viam suam, ut ambulent coram me sicut tu ambulasti in conspectu meo.
   ²⁶ Et nunc Domine Deus Israël, firmentur verba tua quæ locutus es servo tuo David patri meo.
   ²⁷ Ergone putandum est quod vere Deus habitet super terram ? si enim cælum, et cæli cælorum, te capere non possunt, quanto magis domus hæc, quam ædificavi ?
   ²⁸ Sed respice ad orationem servi tui, et ad preces ejus, Domine Deus meus : audi hymnum et orationem quam servus tuus orat coram te hodie :
   ²⁹ ut sint oculi tui aperti super domum hanc nocte ac die : super domum, de qua dixisti : Erit nomen meum ibi : ut exaudias orationem quam orat in loco isto ad te servus tuus :
   ³⁰ ut exaudias deprecationem servi tui et populi tui Israël, quodcumque oraverint in loco isto, et exaudies in loco habitaculi tui in cælo : et cum exaudieris, propitius eris.
   ³¹ Si peccaverit homo in proximum suum, et habuerit aliquod juramentum quo teneatur astrictus, et venerit propter juramentum coram altari tuo in domum tuam,
   ³² tu exaudies in cælo : et facies, et judicabis servos tuos, condemnans impium, et reddens viam suam super caput ejus, justificansque justum, et retribuens ei secundum justitiam suam.
   ³³ Si fugerit populus tuus Israël inimicos suos (quia peccaturus est tibi), et agentes pœnitentiam, et confitentes nomini tuo, venerint, et oraverint, et deprecati te fuerint in domo hac :
   ³⁴ exaudi in cælo, et dimitte peccatum populi tui Israël, et reduces eos in terram quam dedisti patribus eorum.
   ³⁵ Si clausum fuerit cælum, et non pluerit propter peccata eorum, et orantes in loco isto, pœnitentiam egerint nomini tuo, et a peccatis suis conversi fuerint propter afflictionem suam :
   ³⁶ exaudi eos in cælo, et dimitte peccata servorum tuorum, et populi tui Israël : et ostende eis viam bonam per quam ambulent, et da pluviam super terram tuam, quam dedisti populo tuo in possessionem.
   ³⁷ Fames si oborta fuerit in terra, aut pestilentia, aut corruptus aër, aut ærugo, aut locusta, vel rubigo, et afflixerit eum inimicus ejus portas obsidens : omnis plaga, universa infirmitas,
   ³⁸ cuncta devotatio, et imprecatio quæ acciderit omni homini de populo tuo Israël : si quis cognoverit plagam cordis sui, et expanderit manus suas in domo hac,
   ³⁹ tu exaudies in cælo in loco habitationis tuæ, et repropitiaberis, et facies ut des unicuique secundum omnes vias suas, sicut videris cor ejus (quia tu nosti solus cor omnium filiorum hominum),
   ⁴⁰ ut timeant te cunctis diebus quibus vivunt super faciem terræ quam dedisti patribus nostris.
   ⁴¹ Insuper et alienigena, qui non est de populo tuo Israël, cum venerit de terra longinqua propter nomen tuum (audietur enim nomen tuum magnum, et manus tua fortis, et brachium tuum
   ⁴² extentum ubique), cum venerit ergo, et oraverit in hoc loco,
   ⁴³ tu exaudies in cælo, in firmamento habitaculi tui, et facies omnia pro quibus invocaverit te alienigena : ut discant universi populi terrarum nomen tuum timere, sicut populus tuus Israël, et probent quia nomen tuum invocatum est super domum hanc quam ædificavi.
   ⁴⁴ Si egressus fuerit populus tuus ad bellum contra inimicos suos per viam, quocumque miseris eos, orabunt te contra viam civitatis quam elegisti, et contra domum quam ædificavi nomini tuo,
   ⁴⁵ et exaudies in cælo orationes eorum et preces eorum, et facies judicium eorum.
   ⁴⁶ Quod si peccaverint tibi (non est enim homo qui non peccet) et iratus tradideris eos inimicis suis, et captivi ducti fuerint in terram inimicorum longe vel prope,
   ⁴⁷ et egerint pœnitentiam in corde suo in loco captivitatis, et conversi deprecati te fuerint in captivitate sua, dicentes : Peccavimus : inique egimus, impie gessimus :
   ⁴⁸ et reversi fuerint ad te in universo corde suo et tota anima sua in terra inimicorum suorum, ad quam captivi ducti fuerint : et oraverint te contra viam terræ suæ, quam dedisti patribus eorum, et civitatis quam elegisti, et templi quod ædificavi nomini tuo :
   ⁴⁹ exaudies in cælo, in firmamento solii tui, orationes eorum et preces eorum, et facies judicium eorum :
   ⁵⁰ et propitiaberis populo tuo qui peccavit tibi, et omnibus iniquitatibus eorum quibus prævaricati sunt in te : et dabis misericordiam coram eis qui eos captivos habuerint, ut misereantur eis.
   ⁵¹ Populus enim tuus est, et hæreditas tua, quos eduxisti de terra Ægypti, de medio fornacis ferreæ.
   ⁵² Ut sint oculi tui aperti ad deprecationem servi tui, et populi tui Israël, et exaudias eos in universis pro quibus invocaverint te.
   ⁵³ Tu enim separasti eos tibi in hæreditatem de universis populis terræ, sicut locutus es per Moysen servum tuum quando eduxisti patres nostros de Ægypto, Domine Deus.
   ⁵⁴ Factum est autem, cum complesset Salomon orans Dominum omnem orationem et deprecationem hanc, surrexit de conspectu altaris Domini : utrumque enim genu in terram fixerat, et manus expanderat in cælum.
   ⁵⁵ Stetit ergo, et benedixit omni ecclesiæ Israël voce magna, dicens :
   ⁵⁶ Benedictus Dominus, qui dedit requiem populo suo Israël, juxta omnia quæ locutus est : non cecidit ne unus quidem sermo ex omnibus bonis quæ locutus est per Moysen servum suum.
   ⁵⁷ Sit Dominus Deus noster nobiscum, sicut fuit cum patribus nostris, non derelinquens nos, neque projiciens.
   ⁵⁸ Sed inclinet corda nostra ad se, ut ambulemus in universis viis ejus, et custodiamus mandata ejus, et cæremonias ejus, et judicia quæcumque mandavit patribus nostris.
   ⁵⁹ Et sint sermones mei isti, quibus deprecatus sum coram Domino, appropinquantes Domino Deo nostro die ac nocte, ut faciat judicium servo suo, et populo suo Israël per singulos dies :
   ⁶⁰ ut sciant omnes populi terræ quia Dominus ipse est Deus, et non est ultra absque eo.
   ⁶¹ Sit quoque cor nostrum perfectum cum Domino Deo nostro, ut ambulemus in decretis ejus, et custodiamus mandata ejus, sicut et hodie.
   ⁶² Igitur rex, et omnis Israël cum eo, immolabant victimas coram Domino.
   ⁶³ Mactavitque Salomon hostias pacificas, quas immolavit Domino, boum viginti duo millia, et ovium centum viginti millia : et dedicaverunt templum Domini rex et filii Israël.
   ⁶⁴ In die illa sanctificavit rex medium atrii quod erat ante domum Domini : fecit quippe holocaustum ibi, et sacrificium, et adipem pacificorum : quoniam altare æreum quod erat coram Domino, minus erat, et capere non poterat holocaustum, et sacrificium, et adipem pacificorum.
   ⁶⁵ Fecit ergo Salomon in tempore illo festivitatem celebrem, et omnis Israël cum eo, multitudo magna ab introitu Emath usque ad rivum Ægypti, coram Domino Deo nostro, septem diebus et septem diebus, id est, quatuordecim diebus.
   ⁶⁶ Et in die octava dimisit populos : qui benedicentes regi, profecti sunt in tabernacula sua lætantes, et alacri corde super omnibus bonis quæ fecerat Dominus David servo suo, et Israël populo suo.
