BAN ⁶ Et, quand ils furent entrés, il vit Eliab et dit : Certes, voilà l'oint de l'Eternel devant lui.

KJV ⁶ And it came to pass, when they were come, that he looked on Eliab, and said, Surely the LORD's anointed is before him.

VULC ⁶ Cumque ingressi essent, vidit Eliab, et ait : Num coram Domino est christus ejus ?

WLC ⁶ וַיְהִ֣י בְּבוֹאָ֔ם וַיַּ֖רְא אֶת־ אֱלִיאָ֑ב וַיֹּ֕אמֶר אַ֛ךְ נֶ֥גֶד יְהוָ֖ה מְשִׁיחֽוֹ׃

BAN ⁷ Et l'Eternel dit à Samuel : Ne regarde pas à sa figure et à sa haute taille, car je l'ai écarté ; il ne s'agit pas de ce que l'homme voit, car l'homme regarde le visage et l'Eternel regarde le coeur.

KJV ⁷ But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart.

VULC ⁷ Et dixit Dominus ad Samuelem : Ne respicias vultum ejus, neque altitudinem staturæ ejus : quoniam abjeci eum, nec juxta intuitum hominis ego judico : homo enim videt ea quæ parent, Dominus autem intuetur cor.

WLC ⁷ וַיֹּ֨אמֶר יְהוָ֜ה אֶל־ שְׁמוּאֵ֗ל אַל־ תַּבֵּ֧ט אֶל־ מַרְאֵ֛הוּ וְאֶל־ גְּבֹ֥הַּ קוֹמָת֖וֹ כִּ֣י מְאַסְתִּ֑יהוּ כִּ֣י ׀ לֹ֗א אֲשֶׁ֤ר יִרְאֶה֙ הָאָדָ֔ם כִּ֤י הָֽאָדָם֙ יִרְאֶ֣ה לַעֵינַ֔יִם וַיהוָ֖ה יִרְאֶ֥ה לַלֵּבָֽב׃

BAN ⁸ Et Isaï appela Abinadab, et le fit passer devant Samuel ; et il dit : L'Eternel n'a pas non plus choisi celui-ci.

KJV ⁸ Then Jesse called Abinadab, and made him pass before Samuel. And he said, Neither hath the LORD chosen this.

VULC ⁸ Et vocavit Isai Abinadab, et adduxit eum coram Samuele. Qui dixit : Nec hunc elegit Dominus.

WLC ⁸ וַיִּקְרָ֤א יִשַׁי֙ אֶל־ אֲבִ֣ינָדָ֔ב וַיַּעֲבִרֵ֖הוּ לִפְנֵ֣י שְׁמוּאֵ֑ל וַיֹּ֕אמֶר גַּם־ בָּזֶ֖ה לֹֽא־ בָחַ֥ר יְהוָֽה׃

BAN ⁹ Et Isaï fit passer Samma, et il dit : L'Eternel n'a pas choisi non plus celui-ci.

KJV ⁹ Then Jesse made Shammah to pass by. And he said, Neither hath the LORD chosen this.

VULC ⁹ Adduxit autem Isai Samma, de quo ait : Etiam hunc non elegit Dominus.

WLC ⁹ וַיַּעֲבֵ֥ר יִשַׁ֖י שַׁמָּ֑ה וַיֹּ֕אמֶר גַּם־ בָּזֶ֖ה לֹא־ בָחַ֥ר יְהוָֽה׃

BAN ¹⁰ Et Isaï fit passer ses sept fils devant Samuel, et Samuel dit à Isaï : L'Eternel n'a pas choisi ceux-ci.

KJV ¹⁰ Again, Jesse made seven of his sons to pass before Samuel. And Samuel said unto Jesse, The LORD hath not chosen these.

VULC ¹⁰ Adduxit itaque Isai septem filios suos coram Samuele : et ait Samuel ad Isai : Non elegit Dominus ex istis.

WLC ¹⁰ וַיַּעֲבֵ֥ר יִשַׁ֛י שִׁבְעַ֥ת בָּנָ֖יו לִפְנֵ֣י שְׁמוּאֵ֑ל וַיֹּ֤אמֶר שְׁמוּאֵל֙ אֶל־ יִשַׁ֔י לֹא־ בָחַ֥ר יְהוָ֖ה בָּאֵֽלֶּה׃

BAN ¹¹ Et Samuel dit à Isaï. Sont-ce là tous tes garçons ? Et il dit : Il reste encore le plus petit, et il fait paître les brebis. Et Samuel dit à Isaï : Envoie-le chercher ! car nous ne prendrons point place, qu'il ne soit là.

KJV ¹¹ And Samuel said unto Jesse, Are here all thy children? And he said, There remaineth yet the youngest, and, behold, he keepeth the sheep. And Samuel said unto Jesse, Send and fetch him: for we will not sit down till he come hither.

VULC ¹¹ Dixitque Samuel ad Isai : Numquid jam completi sunt filii ? Qui respondit : Adhuc reliquus est parvulus, et pascit oves. Et ait Samuel ad Isai : Mitte, et adduc eum : nec enim discumbemus priusquam huc ille veniat.

WLC ¹¹ וַיֹּ֨אמֶר שְׁמוּאֵ֣ל אֶל־ יִשַׁי֮ הֲתַ֣מּוּ הַנְּעָרִים֒ וַיֹּ֗אמֶר ע֚וֹד שָׁאַ֣ר הַקָּטָ֔ן וְהִנֵּ֥ה רֹעֶ֖ה בַּצֹּ֑אן וַיֹּ֨אמֶר שְׁמוּאֵ֤ל אֶל־ יִשַׁי֙ שִׁלְחָ֣ה וְקָחֶ֔נּוּ כִּ֥י לֹא־ נָסֹ֖ב עַד־ בֹּא֥וֹ פֹֽה׃

BAN ¹² Et il l'envoya chercher. Et il était blond avec de beaux yeux et beau à voir. Et l'Eternel dit : Lève-toi, oins-le, car c'est lui !

KJV ¹² And he sent, and brought him in. Now he was ruddy, and withal of a beautiful countenance, and goodly to look to. And the LORD said, Arise, anoint him: for this is he.

VULC ¹² Misit ergo, et adduxit eum. Erat autem rufus, et pulcher aspectu, decoraque facie : et ait Dominus : Surge, unge eum : ipse est enim.

WLC ¹² וַיִּשְׁלַ֤ח וַיְבִיאֵ֙הוּ֙ וְה֣וּא אַדְמוֹנִ֔י עִם־ יְפֵ֥ה עֵינַ֖יִם וְט֣וֹב רֹ֑אִי וַיֹּ֧אמֶר יְהוָ֛ה ק֥וּם מְשָׁחֵ֖הוּ כִּֽי־ זֶ֥ה הֽוּא׃

BAN ¹³ Et Samuel prit la corne d'huile et l'oignit au milieu de ses frères ; et l'Esprit de l'Eternel saisit David depuis ce jour et dans la suite. Et Samuel se leva et s'en alla à Rama.

KJV ¹³ Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brethren: and the Spirit of the LORD came upon David from that day forward. So Samuel rose up, and went to Ramah.

VULC ¹³ Tulit ergo Samuel cornu olei, et unxit eum in medio fratrum ejus : et directus est spiritus Domini a die illa in David, et deinceps. Surgensque Samuel abiit in Ramatha.

WLC ¹³ וַיִּקַּ֨ח שְׁמוּאֵ֜ל אֶת־ קֶ֣רֶן הַשֶּׁ֗מֶן וַיִּמְשַׁ֣ח אֹתוֹ֮ בְּקֶ֣רֶב אֶחָיו֒ וַתִּצְלַ֤ח רֽוּחַ־ יְהוָה֙ אֶל־ דָּוִ֔ד מֵהַיּ֥וֹם הַה֖וּא וָמָ֑עְלָה וַיָּ֣קָם שְׁמוּאֵ֔ל וַיֵּ֖לֶךְ הָרָמָֽתָה׃
