KJV ⁹ And Jonathan said, Far be it from thee: for if I knew certainly that evil were determined by my father to come upon thee, then would not I tell it thee?

VULC ⁹ Et ait Jonathas : Absit hoc a te : neque enim fieri potest, ut si certe cognovero completam esse patris mei malitiam contra te, non annuntiem tibi.

BAN ¹⁰ Et David dit à Jonathan : Qui m'informera de cela ou de ce que ton père aura pu dire de fâcheux ?

KJV ¹⁰ Then said David to Jonathan, Who shall tell me? or what if thy father answer thee roughly?

VULC ¹⁰ Responditque David ad Jonathan : Quis renuntiabit mihi, si quid forte responderit tibi pater tuus dure de me ?

BAN ¹¹ Et Jonathan dit à David : Viens, sortons dans les champs. Et ils sortirent tous deux aux champs.

KJV ¹¹ And Jonathan said unto David, Come, and let us go out into the field. And they went out both of them into the field.

BAN ¹² Et Jonathan dit à David : Eternel, Dieu d'Israël, quand j'aurai sondé mon père à cette heure-ci, demain ou après-demain, et si cela va bien pour David, et que je n'envoie pas vers toi pour t'en informer,

KJV ¹² And Jonathan said unto David, O LORD God of Israel, when I have sounded my father about to morrow any time, or the third day, and, behold, if there be good toward David, and I then send not unto thee, and shew it thee;

VULC ¹² ait Jonathas ad David : Domine Deus Israël, si investigavero sententiam patris mei crastino vel perendie, et aliquid boni fuerit super David, et non statim misero ad te, et notum tibi fecero,

BAN ¹³ que l'Eternel fasse ainsi à Jonathan et qu'ainsi il y ajoute ! Si mon père trouve bon de te faire du mal, je t'en informerai, et je te ferai partir, et tu t'en iras en sûreté ; et que l'Eternel soit avec toi, comme il a été avec mon père !

KJV ¹³ The LORD do so and much more to Jonathan: but if it please my father to do thee evil, then I will shew it thee, and send thee away, that thou mayest go in peace: and the LORD be with thee, as he hath been with my father.

VULC ¹³ hæc faciat Dominus Jonathæ, et hæc addat. Si autem perseveraverit patris mei malitia adversum te, revelabo aurem tuam, et dimittam te, ut vadas in pace, et sit Dominus tecum, sicut fuit cum patre meo.

BAN ¹⁴ Et n'est-ce pas, si je suis encore vivant, n'est-ce pas, tu useras envers moi de la bonté de l'Eternel ; et je ne mourrai pas ;

KJV ¹⁴ And thou shalt not only while yet I live shew me the kindness of the LORD, that I die not:

VULC ¹⁴ Et si vixero, facies mihi misericordiam Domini : si vero mortuus fuero,

BAN ¹⁵ et tu ne retireras point ta bonté de ma famille à jamais, pas même lorsque l'Eternel retranchera chacun des ennemis de David de dessus la face de la terre.

KJV ¹⁵ But also thou shalt not cut off thy kindness from my house for ever: no, not when the LORD hath cut off the enemies of David every one from the face of the earth.

VULC ¹⁵ non auferes misericordiam tuam a domo mea usque in sempiternum, quando eradicaverit Dominus inimicos David, unumquemque de terra : auferat Jonathan de domo sua, et requirat Dominus de manu inimicorum David.

BAN ¹⁶ Et Jonathan traita avec la maison de David, disant : Que l'Eternel tire vengeance des ennemis de David !

KJV ¹⁶ So Jonathan made a covenant with the house of David, saying, Let the LORD even require it at the hand of David's enemies.

BAN ¹⁷ Et Jonathan adjura encore David par l'amour qu'il lui portait, car il l'aimait comme son âme.

KJV ¹⁷ And Jonathan caused David to swear again, because he loved him: for he loved him as he loved his own soul.

BAN ¹⁸ Et Jonathan lui dit : C'est demain la nouvelle lune, et on remarquera ton absence ; car ta place sera vide ;

KJV ¹⁸ Then Jonathan said to David, To morrow is the new moon: and thou shalt be missed, because thy seat will be empty.

VULC ¹⁸ Dixitque ad eum Jonathas : Cras calendæ sunt, et requireris :

BAN ¹⁹ tu attendras trois jours, et tu descendras promptement et tu viendras au lieu où tu t'étais caché au jour de l'affaire ; et tu resteras près de la pierre d'Ezel.

KJV ¹⁹ And when thou hast stayed three days, then thou shalt go down quickly, and come to the place where thou didst hide thyself when the business was in hand, and shalt remain by the stone Ezel.

VULC ¹⁹ requiretur enim sessio tua usque perendie. Descendes ergo festinus, et venies in locum ubi celandus es in die qua operari licet, et sedebis juxta lapidem cui nomen est Ezel.

BAN ²⁰ Et moi je tirerai trois flèches, de ce côté, comme si je visais à un but.

KJV ²⁰ And I will shoot three arrows on the side thereof, as though I shot at a mark.

VULC ²⁰ Et ego tres sagittas mittam juxta eum, et jaciam quasi exercens me ad signum.

BAN ²¹ Et voici j'enverrai un jeune homme, en lui disant : Va, trouve les flèches. Si je dis au jeune homme : Voici, les flèches sont en deçà de toi, prends-les ! alors viens, car tout va bien pour toi, et il n'y a rien à craindre ; l'Eternel est vivant.

KJV ²¹ And, behold, I will send a lad, saying, Go, find out the arrows. If I expressly say unto the lad, Behold, the arrows are on this side of thee, take them; then come thou: for there is peace to thee, and no hurt; as the LORD liveth.

VULC ²¹ Mittam quoque et puerum, dicens ei : Vade, et affer mihi sagittas.

BAN ²² Et si je dis à l'enfant : Voici, les flèches sont au-delà de toi ! alors va-t'en, car l'Eternel te fait partir.

KJV ²² But if I say thus unto the young man, Behold, the arrows are beyond thee; go thy way: for the LORD hath sent thee away.

VULC ²² Si dixero puero : Ecce sagittæ intra te sunt, tolle eas : tu veni ad me, quia pax tibi est, et nihil est mali, vivit Dominus. Si autem sic locutus fuero puero : Ecce sagittæ ultra te sunt : vade in pace, quia dimisit te Dominus.

BAN ²³ Et quant à la parole que nous avons prononcée, moi et toi, voici l'Eternel est entre moi et toi à jamais.

KJV ²³ And as touching the matter which thou and I have spoken of, behold, the LORD be between thee and me for ever.

VULC ²³ De verbo autem quod locuti sumus ego et tu, sit Dominus inter me et te usque in sempiternum.
