KJV ⁹ And Jonathan said, Far be it from thee: for if I knew certainly that evil were determined by my father to come upon thee, then would not I tell it thee?

S21 ⁹ Jonathan lui dit: «Sois bien certain que je t'informerai, si j'apprends que mon père a décidé de te faire du mal!»

DRB ¹⁰ Et David dit à Jonathan : Qui m'en informera ? Et si ton père te fait une réponse dure… ?

KJV ¹⁰ Then said David to Jonathan, Who shall tell me? or what if thy father answer thee roughly?

S21 ¹⁰ David demanda à Jonathan: «Qui m'informera dans le cas où ton père te répondrait avec dureté?»

DRB ¹¹ Et Jonathan dit à David : Viens, et sortons aux champs. Et ils sortirent les deux aux champs.

KJV ¹¹ And Jonathan said unto David, Come, and let us go out into the field. And they went out both of them into the field.

S21 ¹¹ Jonathan lui dit: «Viens, sortons dans les champs.» Et ils sortirent tous deux dans les champs.

DRB ¹² Et Jonathan dit à David : Éternel, Dieu d'Israël ! quand j'aurai sondé mon père demain à cette heure, ou après-demain, s'il y a quelque chose de bon pour David, et qu'alors je n'envoie pas vers toi et ne te le découvre pas,

KJV ¹² And Jonathan said unto David, O LORD God of Israel, when I have sounded my father about to morrow any time, or the third day, and, behold, if there be good toward David, and I then send not unto thee, and shew it thee;

S21 ¹² Jonathan dit à David: «J'en prends à témoin l'Eternel, le Dieu d'Israël, je chercherai à connaître les intentions de mon père demain ou après-demain. Dans le cas où il serait bien disposé vis-à-vis de toi, si je n'envoie pas quelqu'un vers toi pour t'en informer,

DRB ¹³ que l'Éternel fasse ainsi à Jonathan, et ainsi y ajoute ! S'il semble bon à mon père de te faire du mal, je te le ferai savoir, et je te laisserai aller, et tu t'en iras en paix. Et que l'Éternel soit avec toi, comme il a été avec mon père.

KJV ¹³ The LORD do so and much more to Jonathan: but if it please my father to do thee evil, then I will shew it thee, and send thee away, that thou mayest go in peace: and the LORD be with thee, as he hath been with my father.

S21 ¹³ que l'Eternel me traite avec la plus grande sévérité! Dans le cas où mon père trouverait bon de te faire du mal, je t'informerai aussi et je te laisserai partir, afin que tu t'en ailles en paix. Que l'Eternel soit avec toi comme il l'a été avec mon père!

DRB ¹⁴ Et n'est-ce pas ? si je suis encore vivant, - n'est-ce pas, tu useras envers moi de la bonté de l'Éternel, et je ne mourrai point ;

KJV ¹⁴ And thou shalt not only while yet I live shew me the kindness of the LORD, that I die not:

S21 ¹⁴ Si je reste en vie, veuille agir envers moi avec la bonté de l'Eternel, et si je meurs,

DRB ¹⁵ et tu ne retireras point ta bonté de ma maison, à jamais, non pas même lorsque l'Éternel retranchera chacun des ennemis de David de dessus la face de la terre ?

KJV ¹⁵ But also thou shalt not cut off thy kindness from my house for ever: no, not when the LORD hath cut off the enemies of David every one from the face of the earth.

S21 ¹⁵ ne retire jamais ta bonté envers ma famille, pas même lorsque l'Eternel supprimera chacun de tes ennemis de la surface de la terre.

DRB ¹⁶ Et Jonathan fit alliance avec la maison de David : Que l'Éternel le redemande de la main des ennemis de David !

KJV ¹⁶ So Jonathan made a covenant with the house of David, saying, Let the LORD even require it at the hand of David's enemies.

S21 ¹⁶ En effet, Jonathan a fait alliance avec la famille de David. Que l'Eternel se venge des ennemis de David!»

DRB ¹⁷ Et Jonathan fit encore jurer David par l'amour qu'il lui portait ; car il l'aimait comme il aimait son âme.

KJV ¹⁷ And Jonathan caused David to swear again, because he loved him: for he loved him as he loved his own soul.

DRB ¹⁸ Et Jonathan lui dit : C'est demain la nouvelle lune, et on s'apercevra que tu manques, car ton siège sera vide.

KJV ¹⁸ Then Jonathan said to David, To morrow is the new moon: and thou shalt be missed, because thy seat will be empty.

S21 ¹⁸ Jonathan lui dit: «Demain, c'est le début du mois. On remarquera ton absence, car ta place sera vide.

DRB ¹⁹ Et le troisième jour*, tu descendras en hâte, et tu viendras au lieu où tu t'étais caché le jour de l'affaire, et tu demeureras près de la pierre d'Ézel.

KJV ¹⁹ And when thou hast stayed three days, then thou shalt go down quickly, and come to the place where thou didst hide thyself when the business was in hand, and shalt remain by the stone Ezel.

S21 ¹⁹ Tu descendras le troisième jour jusqu'à l'endroit où tu t'étais caché le jour où l'affaire a commencé, et tu resteras près de la pierre d'Ezel.

DRB ²⁰ Et moi, je tirerai trois flèches du côté de cette pierre*, comme si je tirais vers un but :

KJV ²⁰ And I will shoot three arrows on the side thereof, as though I shot at a mark.

S21 ²⁰ Je tirerai trois flèches du côté de la pierre, comme si je visais une cible.

DRB ²¹ et voici, j'enverrai le jeune garçon [en disant] : Va, trouve les flèches. Si je dis expressément au jeune garçon : Voici, les flèches sont en deçà de toi, prends-les ; alors viens, car il y a paix pour toi, et il n'y a rien, l'Éternel est vivant !

KJV ²¹ And, behold, I will send a lad, saying, Go, find out the arrows. If I expressly say unto the lad, Behold, the arrows are on this side of thee, take them; then come thou: for there is peace to thee, and no hurt; as the LORD liveth.

S21 ²¹ J'enverrai un jeune serviteur en lui disant: ‘Va retrouver les flèches.' Si je lui dis: ‘Les flèches sont moins loin que toi, prends-les', alors viens, car il y a paix pour toi et tu n'as rien à craindre, l'Eternel est vivant!

DRB ²² Et si je dis ainsi au jeune homme : Voici, les flèches sont au delà de toi ; va, car l'Éternel te renvoie.

KJV ²² But if I say thus unto the young man, Behold, the arrows are beyond thee; go thy way: for the LORD hath sent thee away.

S21 ²² Mais si je dis au jeune homme: ‘Les flèches sont plus loin que toi', alors va-t'en, car l'Eternel te fait partir.

DRB ²³ Et quant à la parole que nous avons dite, moi et toi, voici, l'Éternel est entre moi et toi, à toujours.

KJV ²³ And as touching the matter which thou and I have spoken of, behold, the LORD be between thee and me for ever.

S21 ²³ L'Eternel est pour toujours témoin de la parole que nous nous sommes donnée l'un à l'autre.»
