DRB ² Et David se leva, et descendit au désert de Paran. Et il y avait à Maon un homme qui avait ses affaires à Carmel* ; et cet homme était très riche ; il avait trois mille moutons et mille chèvres. Et il était à Carmel pendant qu'on tondait ses moutons.

KJV ² And there was a man in Maon, whose possessions were in Carmel; and the man was very great, and he had three thousand sheep, and a thousand goats: and he was shearing his sheep in Carmel.

MAR ² Or il y avait à Mahon un homme qui avait ses troupeaux en Carmel, et cet homme-là était fort puissant ; car il avait trois mille brebis, et mille chèvres ; et il était en Carmel quand on tondait ses brebis.

DRB ³ Et le nom de l'homme était Nabal, et le nom de sa femme, Abigaïl ; et la femme avait du bon sens et était belle de visage ; et l'homme était dur et méchant dans ses actes ; et il était de la race de Caleb.

KJV ³ Now the name of the man was Nabal; and the name of his wife Abigail: and she was a woman of good understanding, and of a beautiful countenance: but the man was churlish and evil in his doings; and he was of the house of Caleb.

MAR ³ Et cet homme-là avait nom Nabal, et sa femme avait nom Abigaïl, qui était une femme de bon sens, et belle de visage ; mais lui, il était un homme grossier, et avec qui il faisait mauvais avoir affaire ; et il était de la race de Caleb.

DRB ⁴ Et David apprit dans le désert que Nabal tondait ses moutons.

KJV ⁴ And David heard in the wilderness that Nabal did shear his sheep.

DRB ⁵ Et David envoya dix jeunes hommes ; et David dit aux jeunes hommes : Montez à Carmel, et entrez chez Nabal, et saluez-le en mon nom ;

KJV ⁵ And David sent out ten young men, and David said unto the young men, Get you up to Carmel, and go to Nabal, and greet him in my name:

DRB ⁶ et vous [lui] direz ainsi : Vis longtemps ! et paix te soit, et paix à ta maison, et paix à tout ce qui t'appartient !

KJV ⁶ And thus shall ye say to him that liveth in prosperity, Peace be both to thee, and peace be to thine house, and peace be unto all that thou hast.

MAR ⁶ Et lui dites : Autant en puisses-tu faire l'année prochaine en la même saison, et que tu te portes bien, toi, ta maison, et tout ce qui est à toi.

WLC ⁶ וַאֲמַרְתֶּ֥ם כֹּ֖ה לֶחָ֑י וְאַתָּ֤ה שָׁלוֹם֙ וּבֵיתְךָ֣ שָׁל֔וֹם וְכֹ֥ל אֲשֶׁר־ לְךָ֖ שָׁלֽוֹם׃

DRB ⁷ Et maintenant j'ai entendu dire que tu as les tondeurs ; or tes bergers ont été avec nous, et nous ne les avons pas molestés, et rien n'a manqué du leur, tous les jours qu'ils ont été à Carmel.

KJV ⁷ And now I have heard that thou hast shearers: now thy shepherds which were with us, we hurt them not, neither was there ought missing unto them, all the while they were in Carmel.

MAR ⁷ Et maintenant j'ai appris que tu as les tondeurs ; or tes bergers ont été avec nous, et nous ne leur avons fait aucune injure, et rien du leur ne s'est perdu pendant tout le temps qu'ils ont été en Carmel.

WLC ⁷ וְעַתָּ֣ה שָׁמַ֔עְתִּי כִּ֥י גֹזְזִ֖ים לָ֑ךְ עַתָּ֗ה הָרֹעִ֤ים אֲשֶׁר־ לְךָ֙ הָי֣וּ עִמָּ֔נוּ לֹ֣א הֶכְלַמְנ֗וּם וְלֹֽא־ נִפְקַ֤ד לָהֶם֙ מְא֔וּמָה כָּל־ יְמֵ֖י הֱיוֹתָ֥ם בַּכַּרְמֶֽל׃

DRB ⁸ Demande-le à tes jeunes gens et ils t'en informeront. Que les jeunes hommes trouvent donc grâce à tes yeux, car nous sommes venus dans un bon jour. Donne, je te prie, à tes serviteurs et à ton fils David ce que ta main trouvera.

KJV ⁸ Ask thy young men, and they will shew thee. Wherefore let the young men find favour in thine eyes: for we come in a good day: give, I pray thee, whatsoever cometh to thine hand unto thy servants, and to thy son David.

MAR ⁸ Demande le leur, et ils te le diront ; Que ces gens donc soient dans tes bonnes grâces, puisque nous sommes venus en un bon jour. Nous te prions de donner à tes serviteurs, et à David ton fils, ce qui te viendra en main.

DRB ⁹ Et les jeunes hommes de David vinrent et parlèrent à Nabal selon toutes ces paroles, au nom de David ; et ils se tinrent tranquilles.

KJV ⁹ And when David's young men came, they spake to Nabal according to all those words in the name of David, and ceased.

MAR ⁹ Les gens donc de David vinrent, et dirent à Nabal au nom de David toutes ces paroles ; puis ils se tinrent tranquilles.

DRB ¹⁰ Et Nabal répondit aux serviteurs de David, et dit : Qui est David ? Et qui est le fils d'Isaï ? Aujourd'hui ils sont nombreux les serviteurs qui se sauvent chacun de son maître.

KJV ¹⁰ And Nabal answered David's servants, and said, Who is David? and who is the son of Jesse? there be many servants now a days that break away every man from his master.

MAR ¹⁰ Et Nabal répondit aux serviteurs de David, et dit : Qui est David, et qui est le fils d'Isaï ? Aujourd'hui est multiplié le nombre des serviteurs qui se débandent d'avec leurs maîtres.

WLC ¹⁰ וַיַּ֨עַן נָבָ֜ל אֶת־ עַבְדֵ֤י דָוִד֙ וַיֹּ֔אמֶר מִ֥י דָוִ֖ד וּמִ֣י בֶן־ יִשָׁ֑י הַיּוֹם֙ רַבּ֣וּ עֲבָדִ֔ים הַמִּתְפָּ֣רְצִ֔ים אִ֖ישׁ מִפְּנֵ֥י אֲדֹנָֽיו׃

DRB ¹¹ Et je prendrais mon pain et mon eau, et ma viande que j'ai tuée pour mes tondeurs, et je les donnerais à des hommes dont je ne sais d'où ils sont ?

KJV ¹¹ Shall I then take my bread, and my water, and my flesh that I have killed for my shearers, and give it unto men, whom I know not whence they be?

MAR ¹¹ Et prendrais-je mon pain, et mon eau, et la viande que j'ai apprêtée pour mes tondeurs, afin de la donner à des gens que je ne sais d'où ils sont ?

WLC ¹¹ וְלָקַחְתִּ֤י אֶת־ לַחְמִי֙ וְאֶת־ מֵימַ֔י וְאֵת֙ טִבְחָתִ֔י אֲשֶׁ֥ר טָבַ֖חְתִּי לְגֹֽזְזָ֑י וְנָֽתַתִּי֙ לַֽאֲנָשִׁ֔ים אֲשֶׁר֙ לֹ֣א יָדַ֔עְתִּי אֵ֥י מִזֶּ֖ה הֵֽמָּה׃
