   ¹ Et les Philistins prirent l'arche de Dieu et la transportèrent d'Ében-Ézer à Asdod. ² Et les Philistins prirent l'arche de Dieu et l'apportèrent dans la maison de Dagon et la placèrent à côté de Dagon. ³ Et le lendemain, les Asdodiens se levèrent de bonne heure, et voici, Dagon était gisant sur sa face contre terre, devant l'arche de l'Éternel ; et ils prirent Dagon et le remirent à sa place. ⁴ Et ils se levèrent de bonne heure le lendemain matin, et voici, Dagon était gisant sur sa face contre terre, devant l'arche de l'Éternel ; et la tête de Dagon et les deux paumes de ses mains coupées étaient sur le seuil ; le Dagon* seul était resté. ⁵ C'est pourquoi les sacrificateurs de Dagon, et tous ceux qui entrent dans la maison de Dagon, ne marchent pas sur le seuil de Dagon, à Asdod, jusqu'à ce jour.

   ¹ And the Philistines took the ark of God, and brought it from Ebenezer unto Ashdod. ² When the Philistines took the ark of God, they brought it into the house of Dagon, and set it by Dagon. ³ And when they of Ashdod arose early on the morrow, behold, Dagon was fallen upon his face to the earth before the ark of the LORD. And they took Dagon, and set him in his place again. ⁴ And when they arose early on the morrow morning, behold, Dagon was fallen upon his face to the ground before the ark of the LORD; and the head of Dagon and both the palms of his hands were cut off upon the threshold; only the stump of Dagon was left to him. ⁵ Therefore neither the priests of Dagon, nor any that come into Dagon's house, tread on the threshold of Dagon in Ashdod unto this day.

   ¹ Philisthiim autem tulerunt arcam Dei, et asportaverunt eam a lapide Adjutorii in Azotum.
   ² Tuleruntque Philisthiim arcam Dei, et intulerunt eam in templum Dagon, et statuerunt eam juxta Dagon.
   ³ Cumque surrexissent diluculo Azotii altera die, ecce Dagon jacebat pronus in terra ante arcam Domini : et tulerunt Dagon, et restituerunt eum in locum suum.
   ⁴ Rursumque mane die altera consurgentes, invenerunt Dagon jacentem super faciem suam in terra coram arca Domini : caput autem Dagon, et duæ palmæ manuum ejus abscissæ erant super limen :
   ⁵ porro Dagon solus truncus remanserat in loco suo. Propter hanc causam non calcant sacerdotes Dagon, et omnes qui ingrediuntur templum ejus, super limen Dagon in Azoto, usque in hodiernum diem.
