2P 3:9-18 (King James)

   ⁹ The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. ¹⁰ But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.
   ¹¹ Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness, ¹² Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat? ¹³ Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness. ¹⁴ Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless. ¹⁵ And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you; ¹⁶ As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction. ¹⁷ Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness. ¹⁸ But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.

⁹ Le Seigneur ne tarde pas dans l'accomplissement de la promesse, comme certains le pensent; au contraire, il fait preuve de patience envers nous, voulant qu'aucun ne périsse mais que tous parviennent à la repentance.
¹⁰ Le jour du Seigneur viendra comme un voleur [dans la nuit]. Ce jour-là, le ciel disparaîtra avec fracas, les éléments embrasés se désagrégeront et la terre avec les œuvres qu'elle contient sera brûlée.
¹¹ Puisque tout notre monde doit être dissous, combien votre conduite et votre piété doivent-elles être saintes! ¹² Attendez et hâtez la venue du jour de Dieu, jour où le ciel enflammé se désagrégera et où les éléments embrasés fondront. ¹³ Mais nous attendons, conformément à sa promesse, un nouveau ciel et une nouvelle terre où la justice habitera.
¹⁴ C'est pourquoi, bien-aimés, dans cette attente, faites tous vos efforts pour qu'il vous trouve sans tache et irréprochables dans la paix. ¹⁵ Considérez bien que la patience de notre Seigneur est votre salut. Notre bien-aimé frère Paul vous l'a aussi écrit, conformément à la sagesse qui lui a été donnée. ¹⁶ C'est ce qu'il fait dans toutes les lettres où il parle de ces choses; il s'y trouve certes des points difficiles à comprendre, et les personnes ignorantes et mal affermies en tordent le sens, comme elles le font des autres Ecritures, pour leur propre ruine.
¹⁷ Bien-aimés, vous voilà avertis. Tenez-vous donc sur vos gardes de peur qu'entraînés par l'égarement des impies vous ne perdiez la ferme position qui est la vôtre. ¹⁸ Mais grandissez dans la grâce et dans la connaissance de notre Seigneur et Sauveur Jésus-Christ. A lui soit la gloire, maintenant et pour l'éternité! Amen!
