KJV ¹³ And there came a messenger to David, saying, The hearts of the men of Israel are after Absalom.

KJV ¹⁴ And David said unto all his servants that were with him at Jerusalem, Arise, and let us flee; for we shall not else escape from Absalom: make speed to depart, lest he overtake us suddenly, and bring evil upon us, and smite the city with the edge of the sword.

S21 ¹⁴ David dit alors à tous ses serviteurs, qui se trouvaient avec lui à Jérusalem: «Levez-vous, prenons la fuite, car il n'y aura aucun moyen pour nous d'échapper à Absalom. Dépêchez-vous de partir! Autrement, il ne va pas tarder à nous rattraper, et il nous précipitera dans le malheur et frappera la ville du tranchant de l'épée.»

KJV ¹⁵ And the king's servants said unto the king, Behold, thy servants are ready to do whatsoever my lord the king shall appoint.

S21 ¹⁵ Les serviteurs du roi lui dirent: «Nous ferons tout ce que mon seigneur le roi voudra, nous sommes tes serviteurs.»

KJV ¹⁶ And the king went forth, and all his household after him. And the king left ten women, which were concubines, to keep the house.

KJV ²⁰ Whereas thou camest but yesterday, should I this day make thee go up and down with us? seeing I go whither I may, return thou, and take back thy brethren: mercy and truth be with thee.

S21 ²⁰ Tu es arrivé hier et aujourd'hui je te ferais errer avec nous çà et là, alors que je ne sais pas moi-même où je vais! Retourne chez toi et emmène tes frères avec toi. Que l'Eternel fasse preuve de bonté et de fidélité envers toi!»

KJV ²¹ And Ittai answered the king, and said, As the LORD liveth, and as my lord the king liveth, surely in what place my lord the king shall be, whether in death or life, even there also will thy servant be.

S21 ²¹ Ittaï répondit au roi: «L'Eternel est vivant et mon seigneur le roi est vivant! Là où se trouvera mon seigneur le roi, que ce soit pour mourir ou pour vivre, là aussi sera ton serviteur.»

KJV ²² And David said to Ittai, Go and pass over. And Ittai the Gittite passed over, and all his men, and all the little ones that were with him.

S21 ²² David dit alors à Ittaï: «Vas-y, avance!» Et Ittaï de Gath avança avec tous ses hommes et tous les enfants qui étaient avec lui.

KJV ²³ And all the country wept with a loud voice, and all the people passed over: the king also himself passed over the brook Kidron, and all the people passed over, toward the way of the wilderness.

S21 ²³ Toute la région était en larmes et l'on poussait de grands cris au passage de tout le peuple. Le roi passa le torrent du Cédron, ainsi que tout le peuple, en face du chemin qui conduit au désert.

KJV ²⁴ And lo Zadok also, and all the Levites were with him, bearing the ark of the covenant of God: and they set down the ark of God; and Abiathar went up, until all the people had done passing out of the city.

S21 ²⁴ Tsadok était aussi là, et avec lui tous les Lévites qui portaient l'arche de l'alliance de Dieu. Ils déposèrent l'arche de Dieu et Abiathar montait pendant que tout le peuple finissait de sortir de la ville.

KJV ²⁵ And the king said unto Zadok, Carry back the ark of God into the city: if I shall find favour in the eyes of the LORD, he will bring me again, and shew me both it, and his habitation:

S21 ²⁵ Le roi dit à Tsadok: «Ramène l'arche de Dieu dans la ville! Si je trouve grâce aux yeux de l'Eternel, il me fera revenir ici et me fera revoir l'arche et son sanctuaire.

KJV ²⁶ But if he thus say, I have no delight in thee; behold, here am I, let him do to me as seemeth good unto him.

S21 ²⁶ Mais s'il dit: ‘Je ne prends pas plaisir en toi', je suis prêt. Qu'il me fasse ce qui lui semblera bon.»

KJV ²⁷ The king said also unto Zadok the priest, Art not thou a seer? return into the city in peace, and your two sons with you, Ahimaaz thy son, and Jonathan the son of Abiathar.

S21 ²⁷ Le roi insista encore auprès du prêtre Tsadok: «Vas-tu comprendre? Retourne en paix dans la ville avec ton fils Achimaats et avec Jonathan, fils d'Abiathar. Retournez avec vos deux fils.

KJV ²⁸ See, I will tarry in the plain of the wilderness, until there come word from you to certify me.

S21 ²⁸ Voyez, j'attendrai dans les plaines du désert jusqu'à ce que je reçoive des nouvelles de votre part.»

KJV ²⁹ Zadok therefore and Abiathar carried the ark of God again to Jerusalem: and they tarried there.

KJV ³⁰ And David went up by the ascent of mount Olivet, and wept as he went up, and had his head covered, and he went barefoot: and all the people that was with him covered every man his head, and they went up, weeping as they went up.

KJV ³¹ And one told David, saying, Ahithophel is among the conspirators with Absalom. And David said, O LORD, I pray thee, turn the counsel of Ahithophel into foolishness.

S21 ³¹ On vint dire à David: «Achitophel est avec Absalom, il fait partie des conspirateurs.» David dit: «Eternel, réduis à néant les conseils d'Achitophel!»

KJV ³² And it came to pass, that when David was come to the top of the mount, where he worshipped God, behold, Hushai the Archite came to meet him with his coat rent, and earth upon his head:

S21 ³² Lorsque David fut arrivé au sommet, il adora l'Eternel. Et voici que Hushaï l'Arkien vint à sa rencontre, la tunique déchirée et la tête couverte de terre.

KJV ³³ Unto whom David said, If thou passest on with me, then thou shalt be a burden unto me:

KJV ³⁴ But if thou return to the city, and say unto Absalom, I will be thy servant, O king; as I have been thy father's servant hitherto, so will I now also be thy servant: then mayest thou for me defeat the counsel of Ahithophel.

S21 ³⁴ Au contraire, tu réduiras à néant pour mon bénéfice les conseils d'Achitophel, si tu retournes en ville et que tu dises à Absalom: ‘Roi, je serai ton serviteur. J'étais auparavant le serviteur de ton père, mais je suis maintenant ton serviteur.'

KJV ³⁵ And hast thou not there with thee Zadok and Abiathar the priests? therefore it shall be, that what thing soever thou shalt hear out of the king's house, thou shalt tell it to Zadok and Abiathar the priests.

KJV ³⁶ Behold, they have there with them their two sons, Ahimaaz Zadok's son, and Jonathan Abiathar's son; and by them ye shall send unto me every thing that ye can hear.

KJV ³⁷ So Hushai David's friend came into the city, and Absalom came into Jerusalem.

KJV ¹ And when David was a little past the top of the hill, behold, Ziba the servant of Mephibosheth met him, with a couple of asses saddled, and upon them two hundred loaves of bread, and an hundred bunches of raisins, and an hundred of summer fruits, and a bottle of wine.

S21 ¹ Lorsque David eut un peu dépassé le sommet, Tsiba, le serviteur de Mephibosheth, vint à sa rencontre avec deux ânes munis de bâts. Ils portaient 200 pains, 100 gâteaux aux raisins secs, 100 aux fruits d'été et une outre de vin.

KJV ² And the king said unto Ziba, What meanest thou by these? And Ziba said, The asses be for the king's household to ride on; and the bread and summer fruit for the young men to eat; and the wine, that such as be faint in the wilderness may drink.

S21 ² Le roi demanda à Tsiba: «Que veux-tu faire de cela?» Tsiba répondit: «Les ânes serviront de monture à la famille du roi, le pain et les fruits d'été sont destinés à nourrir les jeunes gens, et le vin à désaltérer ceux qui seront fatigués dans le désert.»

KJV ³ And the king said, And where is thy master's son? And Ziba said unto the king, Behold, he abideth at Jerusalem: for he said, To day shall the house of Israel restore me the kingdom of my father.

S21 ³ Le roi demanda: «Où est le fils de ton maître?» Tsiba répondit au roi: «Il est resté à Jérusalem, car il s'est dit: ‘Aujourd'hui la communauté d'Israël me rendra le royaume de mon père.'»

KJV ⁴ Then said the king to Ziba, Behold, thine are all that pertained unto Mephibosheth. And Ziba said, I humbly beseech thee that I may find grace in thy sight, my lord, O king.

S21 ⁴ Le roi dit à Tsiba: «Tout ce qui appartient à Mephibosheth est à toi.» Et Tsiba dit: «Je me prosterne! Que je trouve grâce à tes yeux, roi mon seigneur!»

KJV ⁵ And when king David came to Bahurim, behold, thence came out a man of the family of the house of Saul, whose name was Shimei, the son of Gera: he came forth, and cursed still as he came.

S21 ⁵ Le roi David était arrivé à Bachurim. Et voici qu'un homme du clan et de la famille de Saül, un dénommé Shimeï, fils de Guéra, sortit de là. Il s'avança en prononçant des malédictions,

KJV ⁶ And he cast stones at David, and at all the servants of king David: and all the people and all the mighty men were on his right hand and on his left.

S21 ⁶ et il jeta des pierres au roi David ainsi qu'à tous ses serviteurs, alors même que tout le peuple et tous les hommes vaillants se tenaient à la droite et à la gauche du roi.

KJV ⁷ And thus said Shimei when he cursed, Come out, come out, thou bloody man, and thou man of Belial:

S21 ⁷ Voici ce que disait Shimeï en le maudissant: «Va-t'en, va-t'en, homme sanguinaire, vaurien!

KJV ⁸ The LORD hath returned upon thee all the blood of the house of Saul, in whose stead thou hast reigned; and the LORD hath delivered the kingdom into the hand of Absalom thy son: and, behold, thou art taken in thy mischief, because thou art a bloody man.

S21 ⁸ L'Eternel fait retomber sur toi tout le sang de la famille de Saül. Tu as régné à sa place et l'Eternel a livré le royaume entre les mains de ton fils Absalom. Te voilà donc malheureux comme tu le mérites, car tu es un homme sanguinaire!»

KJV ⁹ Then said Abishai the son of Zeruiah unto the king, Why should this dead dog curse my lord the king? let me go over, I pray thee, and take off his head.

S21 ⁹ Abishaï, fils de Tseruja, dit alors au roi: «Pourquoi ce chien mort maudit-il le roi mon seigneur? Laisse-moi donc aller lui couper la tête.»

KJV ¹⁰ And the king said, What have I to do with you, ye sons of Zeruiah? so let him curse, because the LORD hath said unto him, Curse David. Who shall then say, Wherefore hast thou done so?

S21 ¹⁰ Mais le roi dit: «Qu'ai-je affaire avec vous, les fils de Tseruja? S'il profère des malédictions, c'est que l'Eternel lui a dit: ‘Maudis David!' Qui donc pourrait lui dire: ‘Pourquoi fais-tu cela?'»

KJV ¹¹ And David said to Abishai, and to all his servants, Behold, my son, which came forth of my bowels, seeketh my life: how much more now may this Benjamite do it? let him alone, and let him curse; for the LORD hath bidden him.

S21 ¹¹ Puis David dit à Abishaï et à tous ses serviteurs: «Mon fils, celui qui est issu de moi, en veut à ma vie. A plus forte raison ce Benjaminite! Laissez-le et qu'il me maudisse, si l'Eternel lui a dit de le faire.

KJV ¹² It may be that the LORD will look on mine affliction, and that the LORD will requite me good for his cursing this day.

S21 ¹² Peut-être l'Eternel verra-t-il ma détresse et me fera-t-il du bien au lieu des malédictions d'aujourd'hui.»

KJV ¹³ And as David and his men went by the way, Shimei went along on the hill's side over against him, and cursed as he went, and threw stones at him, and cast dust.

S21 ¹³ David et ses hommes continuèrent leur chemin. Shimeï marchait sur le flanc de la montagne près de David et tout en marchant il le maudissait, jetait des pierres contre lui et faisait voler la poussière.

KJV ¹⁴ And the king, and all the people that were with him, came weary, and refreshed themselves there.

S21 ¹⁴ Le roi et tout le peuple qui était avec lui arrivèrent épuisés [au bord du Jourdain], et là ils reprirent leur souffle.

KJV ¹⁵ And Absalom, and all the people the men of Israel, came to Jerusalem, and Ahithophel with him.

S21 ¹⁵ Absalom et tout le peuple, tous les Israélites, étaient entrés dans Jérusalem. Achitophel était avec lui.

KJV ¹⁶ And it came to pass, when Hushai the Archite, David's friend, was come unto Absalom, that Hushai said unto Absalom, God save the king, God save the king.

S21 ¹⁶ Lorsque Hushaï, l'Arkien qui était un ami de David, fut arrivé vers Absalom, il lui dit: «Vive le roi! Vive le roi!»

KJV ¹⁷ And Absalom said to Hushai, Is this thy kindness to thy friend? why wentest thou not with thy friend?

S21 ¹⁷ Absalom lui dit: «Voilà donc l'attachement que tu as pour ton ami! Pourquoi n'as-tu pas accompagné ton ami?»

KJV ¹⁸ And Hushai said unto Absalom, Nay; but whom the LORD, and this people, and all the men of Israel, choose, his will I be, and with him will I abide.

S21 ¹⁸ Hushaï répondit à Absalom: «C'est que je veux appartenir à celui qu'ont choisi l'Eternel et tout ce peuple, tous les Israélites, et c'est avec lui que je veux rester.

KJV ¹⁹ And again, whom should I serve? should I not serve in the presence of his son? as I have served in thy father's presence, so will I be in thy presence.

S21 ¹⁹ D'ailleurs, qui vais-je servir? Son fils! Je te servirai tout comme j'ai servi ton père.»

KJV ²⁰ Then said Absalom to Ahithophel, Give counsel among you what we shall do.

S21 ²⁰ Absalom dit à Achitophel: «Tenez conseil ensemble! Que devons-nous faire?»

KJV ²¹ And Ahithophel said unto Absalom, Go in unto thy father's concubines, which he hath left to keep the house; and all Israel shall hear that thou art abhorred of thy father: then shall the hands of all that are with thee be strong.

S21 ²¹ Achitophel dit à Absalom: «Aie des relations avec les concubines que ton père a laissées pour garder le palais. Ainsi, tout Israël saura que tu t'es rendu détestable pour ton père et les mains de tous ceux qui sont avec toi se fortifieront.»

KJV ²² So they spread Absalom a tent upon the top of the house; and Absalom went in unto his father's concubines in the sight of all Israel.

S21 ²² On dressa une tente sur le toit pour Absalom, et Absalom eut des relations avec les concubines de son père aux yeux de tout Israël.

KJV ²³ And the counsel of Ahithophel, which he counselled in those days, was as if a man had enquired at the oracle of God: so was all the counsel of Ahithophel both with David and with Absalom.

S21 ²³ Les conseils donnés à cette époque-là par Achitophel avaient autant d'autorité que si l'on avait consulté Dieu lui-même. C'était le cas de tous les conseils d'Achitophel, que ce soit pour David ou pour Absalom.

KJV ¹ Moreover Ahithophel said unto Absalom, Let me now choose out twelve thousand men, and I will arise and pursue after David this night:

S21 ¹ Achitophel dit à Absalom: «Laisse-moi choisir 12'000 hommes et je partirai à la poursuite de David cette nuit même.

KJV ² And I will come upon him while he is weary and weak handed, and will make him afraid: and all the people that are with him shall flee; and I will smite the king only:

S21 ² Je le surprendrai pendant qu'il est fatigué et sans force, je l'effraierai et tout le peuple qui l'accompagne prendra la fuite. Je frapperai seulement le roi,

KJV ³ And I will bring back all the people unto thee: the man whom thou seekest is as if all returned: so all the people shall be in peace.

S21 ³ et je ramènerai tout le peuple à toi. La mort de l'homme à qui tu en veux assurera le retour de tous et tout le peuple sera en paix.»

KJV ⁴ And the saying pleased Absalom well, and all the elders of Israel.

S21 ⁴ Cette parole plut à Absalom et à tous les anciens d'Israël.

KJV ⁵ Then said Absalom, Call now Hushai the Archite also, and let us hear likewise what he saith.

S21 ⁵ Cependant Absalom dit: «Appelez encore Hushaï, l'Arkien! Ecoutons aussi ce qu'il nous dira.»

KJV ⁶ And when Hushai was come to Absalom, Absalom spake unto him, saying, Ahithophel hath spoken after this manner: shall we do after his saying? if not; speak thou.

S21 ⁶ Hushaï vint vers Absalom et celui-ci lui dit: «Voici comment a parlé Achitophel. Devons-nous faire ce qu'il a dit ou non? Dis ta proposition!»

KJV ⁷ And Hushai said unto Absalom, The counsel that Ahithophel hath given is not good at this time.

S21 ⁷ Hushaï répondit à Absalom: «Cette fois-ci, le conseil qu'a donné Achitophel n'est pas bon.»

KJV ⁸ For, said Hushai, thou knowest thy father and his men, that they be mighty men, and they be chafed in their minds, as a bear robbed of her whelps in the field: and thy father is a man of war, and will not lodge with the people.

S21 ⁸ Et il ajouta: «Tu connais ton père et ses hommes: ce sont de vaillants guerriers et ils sont furieux comme le serait, dans la campagne, une ourse à qui l'on aurait enlevé ses petits. Ton père est un homme de guerre et il ne passera pas la nuit avec la troupe.

KJV ⁹ Behold, he is hid now in some pit, or in some other place: and it will come to pass, when some of them be overthrown at the first, that whosoever heareth it will say, There is a slaughter among the people that follow Absalom.

S21 ⁹ Maintenant, il doit être caché dans une grotte ou un autre endroit. Si des hommes tombent dès le début sous leurs coups, on ne tardera pas à l'apprendre et l'on dira: ‘Le peuple qui suit Absalom a subi une défaite!'

KJV ¹⁰ And he also that is valiant, whose heart is as the heart of a lion, shall utterly melt: for all Israel knoweth that thy father is a mighty man, and they which be with him are valiant men.

S21 ¹⁰ Alors même les plus vaillants, auraient-ils un cœur de lion, perdront courage. En effet, tout Israël sait que ton père est un héros et qu'il a des braves avec lui.

KJV ¹¹ Therefore I counsel that all Israel be generally gathered unto thee, from Dan even to Beersheba, as the sand that is by the sea for multitude; and that thou go to battle in thine own person.

S21 ¹¹ Voici donc ce que je conseille: que tout Israël se rassemble auprès de toi, depuis Dan jusqu'à Beer-Shéba. C'est une foule pareille au sable qui est au bord de la mer. Tu marcheras en personne au combat.

KJV ¹² So shall we come upon him in some place where he shall be found, and we will light upon him as the dew falleth on the ground: and of him and of all the men that are with him there shall not be left so much as one.

S21 ¹² Nous le rattraperons où qu'il se trouve et nous tomberons sur lui comme la rosée tombe sur le sol. Il n'y aura pas un seul survivant, ni lui ni aucun des hommes qui sont avec lui.

KJV ¹³ Moreover, if he be gotten into a city, then shall all Israel bring ropes to that city, and we will draw it into the river, until there be not one small stone found there.

S21 ¹³ S'il se retire dans une ville, tout Israël portera des cordes vers cette ville et nous la traînerons jusqu'au torrent jusqu'à ce qu'on n'en trouve plus une pierre.»

KJV ¹⁴ And Absalom and all the men of Israel said, The counsel of Hushai the Archite is better than the counsel of Ahithophel. For the LORD had appointed to defeat the good counsel of Ahithophel, to the intent that the LORD might bring evil upon Absalom.

S21 ¹⁴ Absalom et tous les Israélites dirent: «Le conseil de Hushaï l'Arkien vaut mieux que celui d'Achitophel.» Or l'Eternel avait décidé d'anéantir le bon conseil d'Achitophel afin de faire venir le malheur sur Absalom.
