KJV ¹ Now these be the last words of David. David the son of Jesse said, and the man who was raised up on high, the anointed of the God of Jacob, and the sweet psalmist of Israel, said,

KJV ² The Spirit of the LORD spake by me, and his word was in my tongue.

BCC ³ Le Dieu d'Israël a parlé, le Rocher d'Israël a parlé : Un juste dominant sur les hommes, dominant dans la crainte de Dieu !...

KJV ³ The God of Israel said, the Rock of Israel spake to me, He that ruleth over men must be just, ruling in the fear of God.

BCC ⁴ C'est comme la lumière du matin, quand se lève le soleil, un matin sans nuages ! Par ses rayons, après la pluie, l'herbe sort de terre.

KJV ⁴ And he shall be as the light of the morning, when the sun riseth, even a morning without clouds; as the tender grass springing out of the earth by clear shining after rain.

BCC ⁵ N'en est-il pas ainsi de ma maison avec Dieu ? Car il a fait avec moi une alliance éternelle, de tous points bien ordonnée et gardée ; oui, il fera germer tout mon salut et tout son bon plaisir.

KJV ⁵ Although my house be not so with God; yet he hath made with me an everlasting covenant, ordered in all things, and sure: for this is all my salvation, and all my desire, although he make it not to grow.

KJV ⁷ But the man that shall touch them must be fenced with iron and the staff of a spear; and they shall be utterly burned with fire in the same place.

BCC ⁸ Voici les noms des héros qui étaient au service de David : Jessbam, fils de Hachamoni, chef des officiers. Il brandit sa lance sur huit cents hommes, qu'il fit périr en une seule fois.

KJV ⁸ These be the names of the mighty men whom David had: The Tachmonite that sat in the seat, chief among the captains; the same was Adino the Eznite: he lift up his spear against eight hundred, whom he slew at one time.

BCC ⁹ Après lui, Éléazar, fils de Dodo, fils d'Ahohi. Il était parmi les trois vaillants qui étaient avec David, lorsqu'ils défièrent les Philistins qui étaient rassemblés là pour combattre, tandis que les hommes d'Israël remontaient.

KJV ⁹ And after him was Eleazar the son of Dodo the Ahohite, one of the three mighty men with David, when they defied the Philistines that were there gathered together to battle, and the men of Israel were gone away:

BCC ¹² Semma se plaça au milieu du champ, le défendit et battit les Philistins. Et Yahweh opéra une grande délivrance.

KJV ¹² But he stood in the midst of the ground, and defended it, and slew the Philistines: and the LORD wrought a great victory.

BCC ¹³ Trois d'entre les trente capitaines descendirent et vinrent, au temps de la moisson, auprès de David, à la caverne d'Odollam, tandis qu'une troupe de Philistins était campée dans la vallée des Réphaïm.

KJV ¹³ And three of the thirty chief went down, and came to David in the harvest time unto the cave of Adullam: and the troop of the Philistines pitched in the valley of Rephaim.

KJV ¹⁶ And the three mighty men brake through the host of the Philistines, and drew water out of the well of Bethlehem, that was by the gate, and took it, and brought it to David: nevertheless he would not drink thereof, but poured it out unto the LORD.

BCC ¹⁷ en disant : "Loin de moi, ô Yahweh, de faire cela ! N'est-ce pas le sang de ces hommes qui sont allés au péril de leur vie ?" Et il ne voulut pas la boire. Voilà ce que firent ces trois braves.

KJV ¹⁷ And he said, Be it far from me, O LORD, that I should do this: is not this the blood of the men that went in jeopardy of their lives? therefore he would not drink it. These things did these three mighty men.

BCC ²¹ Il frappa un Egyptien d'un aspect redoutable ; et dans la main de l'Egyptien il y avait une lance. Il descendit vers lui avec un bâton, et il arracha la lance de la main de l'Egyptien et le frappa de sa propre lance.

KJV ²¹ And he slew an Egyptian, a goodly man: and the Egyptian had a spear in his hand; but he went down to him with a staff, and plucked the spear out of the Egyptian's hand, and slew him with his own spear.

BCC ¹ La colère de Yahweh s'enflamma de nouveau contre Israël, et il exita David contre eux, en disant : "Va, fais le dénombrement d'Israël et de Juda."

KJV ¹ And again the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel, and he moved David against them to say, Go, number Israel and Judah.

BCC ² Le roi dit à Joab, chef de l'armée, qui était avec lui : "parcours donc toutes les tribus d'Israël, depuis Dan jusqu'à Bersabée ; faites le dénombrement du peuple, afin que je sache le chiffre du peuple."

KJV ² For the king said to Joab the captain of the host, which was with him, Go now through all the tribes of Israel, from Dan even to Beersheba, and number ye the people, that I may know the number of the people.

BCC ³ Joab dit au roi : "que Yahweh ton Dieu ajoute au peuple cent fois ce qu'il y en a, et que les yeux du roi mon seigneur le voient ! Mais pourquoi le roi mon seigneur met-il son plaisir à faire cela ?"

KJV ³ And Joab said unto the king, Now the LORD thy God add unto the people, how many soever they be, an hundredfold, and that the eyes of my lord the king may see it: but why doth my lord the king delight in this thing?

BCC ⁴ Mais la parole du roi prévalut contre Joab, et sur les chefs de l'armée ; et Joab et les chefs de l'armée partirent de devant le roi pour faire le dénombrement du peuple d'Israël.

KJV ⁴ Notwithstanding the king's word prevailed against Joab, and against the captains of the host. And Joab and the captains of the host went out from the presence of the king, to number the people of Israel.

BCC ⁵ Ayant passé le Jourdain, ils campèrent à Aroër, à droite de la ville, qui est au milieu de la vallée de Gad, puis à Jazer.

KJV ⁵ And they passed over Jordan, and pitched in Aroer, on the right side of the city that lieth in the midst of the river of Gad, and toward Jazer:

KJV ⁷ And came to the strong hold of Tyre, and to all the cities of the Hivites, and of the Canaanites: and they went out to the south of Judah, even to Beersheba.

BCC ⁸ Lorsqu'ils eurent ainsi parcouru tout le pays, ils revinrent à Jérusalem au bout de neuf mois et vingt jours.

KJV ⁸ So when they had gone through all the land, they came to Jerusalem at the end of nine months and twenty days.

BCC ⁹ Joab remit au roi le rôle du dénombrement du peuple : il y avait en Israël huit cent mille hommes de guerre tirant l'épée, et en Juda cinq cent mille hommes.

KJV ⁹ And Joab gave up the sum of the number of the people unto the king: and there were in Israel eight hundred thousand valiant men that drew the sword; and the men of Judah were five hundred thousand men.

BCC ¹⁰ David sentit battre son coeur après qu'il eut compté le peuple, et David dit à Yahweh : "J'ai commis un grand péché en ce que j'ai fait ! Maintenant, ô Yahweh, ôtez, je vous prie, l'iniquité de votre serviteur, car j'ai tout à fait agi en insensé."

KJV ¹⁰ And David's heart smote him after that he had numbered the people. And David said unto the LORD, I have sinned greatly in that I have done: and now, I beseech thee, O LORD, take away the iniquity of thy servant; for I have done very foolishly.

KJV ¹¹ For when David was up in the morning, the word of the LORD came unto the prophet Gad, David's seer, saying,

BCC ¹² "Va dire à David : Ainsi parle Yahweh : Je mets devant toi trois choses ; choisis-en une, et je te la ferai."

KJV ¹² Go and say unto David, Thus saith the LORD, I offer thee three things; choose thee one of them, that I may do it unto thee.

BCC ¹³ Gad vint vers David et lui fit connaître la parole de Yahweh, et lui dit : "une famine de sept années viendra-t-elle dans ton pays, ou bien fuiras-tu trois mois devant tes ennemis qui te poursuivront, ou bien y aura-t-il une peste de trois jours dans ton pays ? Maintenant, sache et vois ce que je dois répondre à celui qui m'envoie."

KJV ¹³ So Gad came to David, and told him, and said unto him, Shall seven years of famine come unto thee in thy land? or wilt thou flee three months before thine enemies, while they pursue thee? or that there be three days' pestilence in thy land? now advise, and see what answer I shall return to him that sent me.

BCC ¹⁴ David répondit à Gad : "Je suis dans une cruelle angoisse. Ah ! Tombons entre les mains de Yahweh, car ses miséricordes sont grandes ; mais que je ne tombe pas entre les mains des hommes !"

KJV ¹⁴ And David said unto Gad, I am in a great strait: let us fall now into the hand of the LORD; for his mercies are great: and let me not fall into the hand of man.

BCC ¹⁵ Et Yahweh envoya une peste en Israël depuis le matin de ce jour jusqu'au temps fixé ; et il mourut, de Dan à Bersabée, soixante-dix mille hommes parmi le peuple.

KJV ¹⁵ So the LORD sent a pestilence upon Israel from the morning even to the time appointed: and there died of the people from Dan even to Beersheba seventy thousand men.

BCC ¹⁶ L'ange étendait la main sur Jérusalem pour la détruire. Et Yahweh se repentit de ce mal, et il dit à l'ange qui faisait périr le peuple : "Assez ! Retire maintenant ta main." L'ange de Yahweh se tenait près de l'aire d'Areuna, le Jébuséen.

KJV ¹⁶ And when the angel stretched out his hand upon Jerusalem to destroy it, the LORD repented him of the evil, and said to the angel that destroyed the people, It is enough: stay now thine hand. And the angel of the LORD was by the threshingplace of Araunah the Jebusite.

BCC ¹⁷ A la vue de l'ange qui frappait le peuple, David dit à Yahweh : "Voici, c'est moi qui ai péché, c'est moi qui suis coupable ; mais celles-là, ces brebis, qu'ont-elles fait ? Que ta main soit donc sur moi et sur la maison de mon père !"

KJV ¹⁷ And David spake unto the LORD when he saw the angel that smote the people, and said, Lo, I have sinned, and I have done wickedly: but these sheep, what have they done? let thine hand, I pray thee, be against me, and against my father's house.

BCC ¹⁸ Ce jour-là, Gad vint auprès de David et lui dit : "Monte et élève à Yahweh un autel sur l'aire d'Areuna, le Jébuséen."

KJV ¹⁸ And Gad came that day to David, and said unto him, Go up, rear an altar unto the LORD in the threshingfloor of Araunah the Jebusite.

BCC ¹⁹ David monta, selon la parole de Gad, comme Yahweh l'avait ordonné.

KJV ¹⁹ And David, according to the saying of Gad, went up as the LORD commanded.

BCC ²⁰ Areuna, ayant regardé, vit le roi et ses serviteurs qui se dirigeaient vers lui ;

KJV ²⁰ And Araunah looked, and saw the king and his servants coming on toward him: and Araunah went out, and bowed himself before the king on his face upon the ground.

BCC ²¹ Areuna sortit et se prosterna devant le roi, le visage contre terre, en disant : "Pourquoi mon seigneur le roi vient-il vers son serviteur ?" Et David répondit : "Pour acheter de toi cette aire afin de bâtir un autel à Yahweh, pour que la plaie se retire de dessus le peuple."

KJV ²¹ And Araunah said, Wherefore is my lord the king come to his servant? And David said, To buy the threshingfloor of thee, to build an altar unto the LORD, that the plague may be stayed from the people.

BCC ²² Areuna dit à David : "que mon seigneur le roi prenne l'aire et qu'il offre en sacrifice ce qu'il trouvera bon ! Voici les boeufs pour l'holocauste, les traîneaux et les jougs des boeufs pour le bois.

KJV ²² And Araunah said unto David, Let my lord the king take and offer up what seemeth good unto him: behold, here be oxen for burnt sacrifice, and threshing instruments and other instruments of the oxen for wood.

BCC ²³ Tout cela, ô roi, Areuna le donne au roi." Et Areuna dit encore au roi : "Que Yahweh ; ton Dieu, te sois favorable !"

KJV ²³ All these things did Araunah, as a king, give unto the king. And Araunah said unto the king, The LORD thy God accept thee.

BCC ²⁴ Mais le roi dit à Areuna : "Non ! Mais je veux l'acheter de toi à prix d'argent, et je n'offrirai point à Yahweh, mon Dieu, des holocaustes qui ne me coûtent rien." Et David acheta l'aire et les boeufs pour cinquante sicles d'argent.

KJV ²⁴ And the king said unto Araunah, Nay; but I will surely buy it of thee at a price: neither will I offer burnt offerings unto the LORD my God of that which doth cost me nothing. So David bought the threshingfloor and the oxen for fifty shekels of silver.

BCC ²⁵ Et David bâtit là un autel à Yahweh et offrit des holocaustes et des sacrifices pacifiques. Ainsi Yahweh fut apaisé envers le pays, et la plaie se retira d'Israël.

KJV ²⁵ And David built there an altar unto the LORD, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings. So the LORD was intreated for the land, and the plague was stayed from Israel.

KJV ¹⁵ And David longed, and said, Oh that one would give me drink of the water of the well of Bethlehem, which is by the gate!
