KJV ² The Spirit of the LORD spake by me, and his word was in my tongue.

KJV ⁴ And he shall be as the light of the morning, when the sun riseth, even a morning without clouds; as the tender grass springing out of the earth by clear shining after rain.

KJV ⁶ But the sons of Belial shall be all of them as thorns thrust away, because they cannot be taken with hands:

quæ non tolluntur manibus.

KJV ⁷ But the man that shall touch them must be fenced with iron and the staff of a spear; and they shall be utterly burned with fire in the same place.

KJV ⁹ And after him was Eleazar the son of Dodo the Ahohite, one of the three mighty men with David, when they defied the Philistines that were there gathered together to battle, and the men of Israel were gone away:

KJV ¹⁰ He arose, and smote the Philistines until his hand was weary, and his hand clave unto the sword: and the LORD wrought a great victory that day; and the people returned after him only to spoil.

KJV ¹¹ And after him was Shammah the son of Agee the Hararite. And the Philistines were gathered together into a troop, where was a piece of ground full of lentiles: and the people fled from the Philistines.

KJV ¹² But he stood in the midst of the ground, and defended it, and slew the Philistines: and the LORD wrought a great victory.

KJV ¹³ And three of the thirty chief went down, and came to David in the harvest time unto the cave of Adullam: and the troop of the Philistines pitched in the valley of Rephaim.

KJV ¹⁶ And the three mighty men brake through the host of the Philistines, and drew water out of the well of Bethlehem, that was by the gate, and took it, and brought it to David: nevertheless he would not drink thereof, but poured it out unto the LORD.

KJV ¹⁷ And he said, Be it far from me, O LORD, that I should do this: is not this the blood of the men that went in jeopardy of their lives? therefore he would not drink it. These things did these three mighty men.

KJV ²¹ And he slew an Egyptian, a goodly man: and the Egyptian had a spear in his hand; but he went down to him with a staff, and plucked the spear out of the Egyptian's hand, and slew him with his own spear.

WLC ² וַיֹּ֨אמֶר הַמֶּ֜לֶךְ אֶל־ יוֹאָ֣ב ׀ שַׂר־ הַחַ֣יִל אֲשֶׁר־ אִתּ֗וֹ שֽׁוּט־ נָ֞א בְּכָל־ שִׁבְטֵ֤י יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ מִדָּן֙ וְעַד־ בְּאֵ֣ר שֶׁ֔בַע וּפִקְד֖וּ אֶת־ הָעָ֑ם וְיָ֣דַעְתִּ֔י אֵ֖ת מִסְפַּ֥ר הָעָֽם׃

KJV ³ And Joab said unto the king, Now the LORD thy God add unto the people, how many soever they be, an hundredfold, and that the eyes of my lord the king may see it: but why doth my lord the king delight in this thing?

VULC ³ Dixitque Joab regi : Adaugeat Dominus Deus tuus ad populum tuum, quantus nunc est, iterumque centuplicet in conspectu domini mei regis : sed quid sibi dominus meus rex vult in re hujuscemodi ?

WLC ³ וַיֹּ֨אמֶר יוֹאָ֜ב אֶל־ הַמֶּ֗לֶךְ וְיוֹסֵ֣ף יְהוָה֩ אֱלֹהֶ֨יךָ אֶל־ הָעָ֜ם כָּהֵ֤ם ׀ וְכָהֵם֙ מֵאָ֣ה פְעָמִ֔ים וְעֵינֵ֥י אֲדֹנִֽי־ הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ רֹא֑וֹת וַאדֹנִ֣י הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ לָ֥מָּה חָפֵ֖ץ בַּדָּבָ֥ר הַזֶּֽה׃

KJV ⁴ Notwithstanding the king's word prevailed against Joab, and against the captains of the host. And Joab and the captains of the host went out from the presence of the king, to number the people of Israel.

VULC ⁴ Obtinuit autem sermo regis verba Joab et principum exercitus : egressusque est Joab et principes militum a facie regis, ut numerarent populum Israël.

WLC ⁴ וַיֶּחֱזַ֤ק דְּבַר־ הַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙ אֶל־ יוֹאָ֔ב וְעַ֖ל שָׂרֵ֣י הֶחָ֑יִל וַיֵּצֵ֨א יוֹאָ֜ב וְשָׂרֵ֤י הַחַ֙יִל֙ לִפְנֵ֣י הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ לִפְקֹ֥ד אֶת־ הָעָ֖ם אֶת־ יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

KJV ⁵ And they passed over Jordan, and pitched in Aroer, on the right side of the city that lieth in the midst of the river of Gad, and toward Jazer:

KJV ⁶ Then they came to Gilead, and to the land of Tahtimhodshi; and they came to Danjaan, and about to Zidon,

VULC ⁶ et per Jazer transierunt in Galaad, et in terram inferiorem Hodsi, et venerunt in Dan silvestria. Circumeuntesque juxta Sidonem,

WLC ⁶ וַיָּבֹ֙אוּ֙ הַגִּלְעָ֔דָה וְאֶל־ אֶ֥רֶץ תַּחְתִּ֖ים חָדְשִׁ֑י וַיָּבֹ֙אוּ֙ דָּ֣נָה יַּ֔עַן וְסָבִ֖יב אֶל־ צִידֽוֹן׃

KJV ⁷ And came to the strong hold of Tyre, and to all the cities of the Hivites, and of the Canaanites: and they went out to the south of Judah, even to Beersheba.

KJV ⁸ So when they had gone through all the land, they came to Jerusalem at the end of nine months and twenty days.

KJV ⁹ And Joab gave up the sum of the number of the people unto the king: and there were in Israel eight hundred thousand valiant men that drew the sword; and the men of Judah were five hundred thousand men.

KJV ¹⁰ And David's heart smote him after that he had numbered the people. And David said unto the LORD, I have sinned greatly in that I have done: and now, I beseech thee, O LORD, take away the iniquity of thy servant; for I have done very foolishly.

KJV ¹¹ For when David was up in the morning, the word of the LORD came unto the prophet Gad, David's seer, saying,

VULC ¹¹ Surrexit itaque David mane, et sermo Domini factus est ad Gad prophetam et videntem David, dicens :

WLC ¹¹ וַיָּ֥קָם דָּוִ֖ד בַּבֹּ֑קֶר וּדְבַר־ יְהוָ֗ה הָיָה֙ אֶל־ גָּ֣ד הַנָּבִ֔יא חֹזֵ֥ה דָוִ֖ד לֵאמֹֽר׃

KJV ¹² Go and say unto David, Thus saith the LORD, I offer thee three things; choose thee one of them, that I may do it unto thee.

VULC ¹² Vade, et loquere ad David : Hæc dicit Dominus : Trium tibi datur optio : elige unum quod volueris ex his, ut faciam tibi.

WLC ¹² הָל֞וֹךְ וְדִבַּרְתָּ֣ אֶל־ דָּוִ֗ד כֹּ֚ה אָמַ֣ר יְהוָ֔ה שָׁלֹ֕שׁ אָנֹכִ֖י נוֹטֵ֣ל עָלֶ֑יךָ בְּחַר־ לְךָ֥ אַֽחַת־ מֵהֶ֖ם וְאֶֽעֱשֶׂה־ לָּֽךְ׃

KJV ¹³ So Gad came to David, and told him, and said unto him, Shall seven years of famine come unto thee in thy land? or wilt thou flee three months before thine enemies, while they pursue thee? or that there be three days' pestilence in thy land? now advise, and see what answer I shall return to him that sent me.

VULC ¹³ Cumque venisset Gad ad David, nuntiavit ei, dicens : Aut septem annis veniet tibi fames in terra tua : aut tribus mensibus fugies adversarios tuos, et illi te persequentur : aut certe tribus diebus erit pestilentia in terra tua. Nunc ergo delibera, et vide quem respondeam ei qui me misit sermonem.

WLC ¹³ וַיָּבֹא־ גָ֥ד אֶל־ דָּוִ֖ד וַיַּגֶּד־ ל֑וֹ וַיֹּ֣אמֶר ל֡וֹ הֲתָב֣וֹא לְךָ֣ שֶֽׁבַע שָׁנִ֣ים ׀ רָעָ֣ב ׀ בְּאַרְצֶ֡ךָ אִם־ שְׁלֹשָׁ֣ה חֳ֠דָשִׁים נֻסְךָ֨ לִפְנֵֽי־ צָרֶ֜יךָ וְה֣וּא רֹדְפֶ֗ךָ וְאִם־ הֱ֠יוֹת שְׁלֹ֨שֶׁת יָמִ֥ים דֶּ֙בֶר֙ בְּאַרְצֶ֔ךָ עַתָּה֙ דַּ֣ע וּרְאֵ֔ה מָה־ אָשִׁ֥יב שֹׁלְחִ֖י דָּבָֽר׃

KJV ¹⁴ And David said unto Gad, I am in a great strait: let us fall now into the hand of the LORD; for his mercies are great: and let me not fall into the hand of man.

VULC ¹⁴ Dixit autem David ad Gad : Coarctor nimis : sed melius est ut incidam in manus Domini (multæ enim misericordiæ ejus sunt) quam in manus hominum.

WLC ¹⁴ וַיֹּ֧אמֶר דָּוִ֛ד אֶל־ גָּ֖ד צַר־ לִ֣י מְאֹ֑ד נִפְּלָה־ נָּ֤א בְיַד־ יְהוָה֙ כִּֽי־ רַבִּ֣ים וּבְיַד־ אָדָ֖ם אַל־ אֶפֹּֽלָה׃

KJV ¹⁵ So the LORD sent a pestilence upon Israel from the morning even to the time appointed: and there died of the people from Dan even to Beersheba seventy thousand men.

KJV ¹⁶ And when the angel stretched out his hand upon Jerusalem to destroy it, the LORD repented him of the evil, and said to the angel that destroyed the people, It is enough: stay now thine hand. And the angel of the LORD was by the threshingplace of Araunah the Jebusite.

VULC ¹⁶ Cumque extendisset manum suam angelus Domini super Jerusalem ut disperderet eam, misertus est Dominus super afflictione, et ait angelo percutienti populum : Sufficit : nunc contine manum tuam. Erat autem angelus Domini juxta aream Areuna Jebusæi.

WLC ¹⁶ וַיִּשְׁלַח֩ יָד֨וֹ הַמַּלְאָ֥ךְ ׀ יְרֽוּשָׁלִַם֮ לְשַׁחֲתָהּ֒ וַיִּנָּ֤חֶם יְהוָה֙ אֶל־ הָ֣רָעָ֔ה וַ֠יֹּאמֶר לַמַּלְאָ֞ךְ הַמַּשְׁחִ֤ית בָּעָם֙ רַ֔ב עַתָּ֖ה הֶ֣רֶף יָדֶ֑ךָ וּמַלְאַ֤ךְ יְהוָה֙ הָיָ֔ה עִם־ גֹּ֖רֶן הַיְבֻסִֽי׃

KJV ¹⁷ And David spake unto the LORD when he saw the angel that smote the people, and said, Lo, I have sinned, and I have done wickedly: but these sheep, what have they done? let thine hand, I pray thee, be against me, and against my father's house.

VULC ¹⁷ Dixitque David ad Dominum cum vidisset angelum cædentem populum : Ego sum qui peccavi, ego inique egi : isti qui oves sunt, quid fecerunt ? vertatur, obsecro, manus tua contra me, et contra domum patris mei.

KJV ¹⁸ And Gad came that day to David, and said unto him, Go up, rear an altar unto the LORD in the threshingfloor of Araunah the Jebusite.

VULC ¹⁸ Venit autem Gad ad David in die illa, et dixit ei : Ascende, et constitue altare Domino in area Areuna Jebusæi.

WLC ¹⁸ וַיָּבֹא־ גָ֥ד אֶל־ דָּוִ֖ד בַּיּ֣וֹם הַה֑וּא וַיֹּ֣אמֶר ל֗וֹ עֲלֵה֙ הָקֵ֤ם לַֽיהוָה֙ מִזְבֵּ֔חַ בְּגֹ֖רֶן הַיְבֻסִֽי׃

KJV ¹⁹ And David, according to the saying of Gad, went up as the LORD commanded.

VULC ¹⁹ Et ascendit David juxta sermonem Gad, quem præceperat ei Dominus.

WLC ¹⁹ וַיַּ֤עַל דָּוִד֙ כִּדְבַר־ גָּ֔ד כַּאֲשֶׁ֖ר צִוָּ֥ה יְהוָֽה׃

KJV ²⁰ And Araunah looked, and saw the king and his servants coming on toward him: and Araunah went out, and bowed himself before the king on his face upon the ground.

VULC ²⁰ Conspiciensque Areuna, animadvertit regem et servos ejus transire ad se :

WLC ²⁰ וַיַּשְׁקֵ֣ף אֲרַ֗וְנָה וַיַּ֤רְא אֶת־ הַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙ וְאֶת־ עֲבָדָ֔יו עֹבְרִ֖ים עָלָ֑יו וַיֵּצֵ֣א אֲרַ֔וְנָה וַיִּשְׁתַּ֧חוּ לַמֶּ֛לֶךְ אַפָּ֖יו אָֽרְצָה׃

KJV ²¹ And Araunah said, Wherefore is my lord the king come to his servant? And David said, To buy the threshingfloor of thee, to build an altar unto the LORD, that the plague may be stayed from the people.

VULC ²¹ et egressus adoravit regem prono vultu in terram, et ait : Quid causæ est ut veniat dominus meus rex ad servum suum ? Cui David ait : Ut emam a te aream, et ædificem altare Domino, et cesset interfectio quæ grassatur in populo.

WLC ²¹ וַיֹּ֣אמֶר אֲרַ֔וְנָה מַדּ֛וּעַ בָּ֥א אֲדֹנִֽי־ הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ אֶל־ עַבְדּ֑וֹ וַיֹּ֨אמֶר דָּוִ֜ד לִקְנ֧וֹת מֵעִמְּךָ֣ אֶת־ הַגֹּ֗רֶן לִבְנ֤וֹת מִזְבֵּ֙חַ֙ לַֽיהוָ֔ה וְתֵעָצַ֥ר הַמַּגֵּפָ֖ה מֵעַ֥ל הָעָֽם׃

KJV ²² And Araunah said unto David, Let my lord the king take and offer up what seemeth good unto him: behold, here be oxen for burnt sacrifice, and threshing instruments and other instruments of the oxen for wood.

VULC ²² Et ait Areuna ad David : Accipiat, et offerat dominus meus rex sicut placet ei : habes boves in holocaustum, et plaustrum, et juga boum in usum lignorum.

WLC ²² וַיֹּ֤אמֶר אֲרַ֙וְנָה֙ אֶל־ דָּוִ֔ד יִקַּ֥ח וְיַ֛עַל אֲדֹנִ֥י הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ הַטּ֣וֹב רְאֵה֙ הַבָּקָ֣ר לָעֹלָ֔ה וְהַמֹּרִגִּ֛ים וּכְלֵ֥י הַבָּקָ֖ר לָעֵצִֽים׃

KJV ²³ All these things did Araunah, as a king, give unto the king. And Araunah said unto the king, The LORD thy God accept thee.

VULC ²³ Omnia dedit Areuna rex regi : dixitque Areuna ad regem : Dominus Deus tuus suscipiat votum tuum.

WLC ²³ הַכֹּ֗ל נָתַ֛ן אֲרַ֥וְנָה הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ לַמֶּ֑לֶךְ וַיֹּ֤אמֶר אֲרַ֙וְנָה֙ אֶל־ הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ יְהוָ֥ה אֱלֹהֶ֖יךָ יִרְצֶֽךָ׃

KJV ²⁴ And the king said unto Araunah, Nay; but I will surely buy it of thee at a price: neither will I offer burnt offerings unto the LORD my God of that which doth cost me nothing. So David bought the threshingfloor and the oxen for fifty shekels of silver.

VULC ²⁴ Cui respondens rex, ait : Nequaquam ut vis, sed emam pretio a te, et non offeram Domino Deo meo holocausta gratuita. Emit ergo David aream, et boves, argenti siclis quinquaginta :

WLC ²⁴ וַיֹּ֨אמֶר הַמֶּ֜לֶךְ אֶל־ אֲרַ֗וְנָה לֹ֚א כִּֽי־ קָנ֨וֹ אֶקְנֶ֤ה מֵאֽוֹתְךָ֙ בִּמְחִ֔יר וְלֹ֧א אַעֲלֶ֛ה לַיהוָ֥ה אֱלֹהַ֖י עֹל֣וֹת חִנָּ֑ם וַיִּ֨קֶן דָּוִ֤ד אֶת־ הַגֹּ֙רֶן֙ וְאֶת־ הַבָּקָ֔ר בְּכֶ֖סֶף שְׁקָלִ֥ים חֲמִשִּֽׁים׃

KJV ²⁵ And David built there an altar unto the LORD, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings. So the LORD was intreated for the land, and the plague was stayed from Israel.

VULC ²⁵ et ædificavit ibi David altare Domino, et obtulit holocausta et pacifica : et propitiatus est Dominus terræ, et cohibita est plaga ab Israël.

WLC ²⁵ וַיִּבֶן֩ שָׁ֨ם דָּוִ֤ד מִזְבֵּ֙חַ֙ לַֽיהוָ֔ה וַיַּ֥עַל עֹל֖וֹת וּשְׁלָמִ֑ים וַיֵּעָתֵ֤ר יְהוָה֙ לָאָ֔רֶץ וַתֵּעָצַ֥ר הַמַּגֵּפָ֖ה מֵעַ֥ל יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃
