KJV ¹ And again the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel, and he moved David against them to say, Go, number Israel and Judah.

KJV ² For the king said to Joab the captain of the host, which was with him, Go now through all the tribes of Israel, from Dan even to Beersheba, and number ye the people, that I may know the number of the people.

S21 ² Le roi dit à Joab, qui était le chef de l'armée et qui se trouvait près de lui: «Parcours toutes les tribus d'Israël, depuis Dan jusqu'à Beer-Shéba. Qu'on fasse le dénombrement du peuple et que je sache ainsi combien il compte d'individus.»

WLC ² וַיֹּ֨אמֶר הַמֶּ֜לֶךְ אֶל־ יוֹאָ֣ב ׀ שַׂר־ הַחַ֣יִל אֲשֶׁר־ אִתּ֗וֹ שֽׁוּט־ נָ֞א בְּכָל־ שִׁבְטֵ֤י יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ מִדָּן֙ וְעַד־ בְּאֵ֣ר שֶׁ֔בַע וּפִקְד֖וּ אֶת־ הָעָ֑ם וְיָ֣דַעְתִּ֔י אֵ֖ת מִסְפַּ֥ר הָעָֽם׃

KJV ³ And Joab said unto the king, Now the LORD thy God add unto the people, how many soever they be, an hundredfold, and that the eyes of my lord the king may see it: but why doth my lord the king delight in this thing?

S21 ³ Joab dit au roi: «Que l'Eternel, ton Dieu, rende le peuple 100 fois plus nombreux et que mon seigneur le roi puisse le voir de ses yeux! Mais pourquoi mon seigneur le roi veut-il faire cela?»

WLC ³ וַיֹּ֨אמֶר יוֹאָ֜ב אֶל־ הַמֶּ֗לֶךְ וְיוֹסֵ֣ף יְהוָה֩ אֱלֹהֶ֨יךָ אֶל־ הָעָ֜ם כָּהֵ֤ם ׀ וְכָהֵם֙ מֵאָ֣ה פְעָמִ֔ים וְעֵינֵ֥י אֲדֹנִֽי־ הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ רֹא֑וֹת וַאדֹנִ֣י הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ לָ֥מָּה חָפֵ֖ץ בַּדָּבָ֥ר הַזֶּֽה׃

KJV ⁴ Notwithstanding the king's word prevailed against Joab, and against the captains of the host. And Joab and the captains of the host went out from the presence of the king, to number the people of Israel.

S21 ⁴ Le roi persista dans l'ordre qu'il donnait à Joab et aux chefs de l'armée, et ils quittèrent le roi pour procéder au dénombrement du peuple d'Israël.

WLC ⁴ וַיֶּחֱזַ֤ק דְּבַר־ הַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙ אֶל־ יוֹאָ֔ב וְעַ֖ל שָׂרֵ֣י הֶחָ֑יִל וַיֵּצֵ֨א יוֹאָ֜ב וְשָׂרֵ֤י הַחַ֙יִל֙ לִפְנֵ֣י הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ לִפְקֹ֥ד אֶת־ הָעָ֖ם אֶת־ יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

KJV ⁵ And they passed over Jordan, and pitched in Aroer, on the right side of the city that lieth in the midst of the river of Gad, and toward Jazer:

S21 ⁵ Ils passèrent le Jourdain et installèrent leur camp à Aroër, à droite de la ville qui se trouve au milieu de la vallée de Gad, et près de Jaezer.

KJV ⁶ Then they came to Gilead, and to the land of Tahtimhodshi; and they came to Danjaan, and about to Zidon,

WLC ⁶ וַיָּבֹ֙אוּ֙ הַגִּלְעָ֔דָה וְאֶל־ אֶ֥רֶץ תַּחְתִּ֖ים חָדְשִׁ֑י וַיָּבֹ֙אוּ֙ דָּ֣נָה יַּ֔עַן וְסָבִ֖יב אֶל־ צִידֽוֹן׃

KJV ⁷ And came to the strong hold of Tyre, and to all the cities of the Hivites, and of the Canaanites: and they went out to the south of Judah, even to Beersheba.

S21 ⁷ Ils se rendirent à la forteresse de Tyr et dans toutes les villes des Héviens et des Cananéens. Ils terminèrent par le sud de Juda, à Beer-Shéba.

WLC ⁷ וַיָּבֹ֙אוּ֙ מִבְצַר־ צֹ֔ר וְכָל־ עָרֵ֥י הַחִוִּ֖י וְהַֽכְּנַעֲנִ֑י וַיֵּֽצְא֛וּ אֶל־ נֶ֥גֶב יְהוּדָ֖ה בְּאֵ֥ר שָֽׁבַע׃

KJV ⁸ So when they had gone through all the land, they came to Jerusalem at the end of nine months and twenty days.

KJV ⁹ And Joab gave up the sum of the number of the people unto the king: and there were in Israel eight hundred thousand valiant men that drew the sword; and the men of Judah were five hundred thousand men.

S21 ⁹ Joab remit au roi le résultat du dénombrement du peuple: il y avait en Israël 800'000 hommes vaillants aptes au combat, et 500'000 en Juda.
