   ¹ Et la guerre fut longue entre la maison de Saül et la maison de David. Et David allait se fortifiant, et la maison de Saül allait s'affaiblissant. ² Et il naquit à David des fils à Hébron : son premier-né fut Amnon, d'Akhinoam, la Jizreélite ; ³ et le second, Kileab, d'Abigaïl, femme de Nabal, le Carmélite ; et le troisième, Absalom, fils de Maaca, fille de Talmaï, roi de Gueshur ; ⁴ et le quatrième, Adonija, fils de Hagguith ; et le cinquième, Shephatia, fils d'Abital ; ⁵ et le sixième, Jithream, d'Égla, femme de David. Ceux-ci naquirent à David à Hébron. ⁶ Et il arriva que, pendant qu'il y eut guerre entre la maison de Saül et la maison de David, Abner tint ferme pour la maison de Saül.
   ⁷ Et Saül avait une concubine : son nom était Ritspa, fille d'Aïa ; et [Ish-Bosheth] dit à Abner : Pourquoi es-tu entré vers la concubine de mon père ? ⁸ Et Abner fut fort irrité à cause des paroles d'Ish-Bosheth, et il dit : Suis-je une tête de chien, moi qui aujourd'hui, contre Juda, ai usé de bonté envers la maison de Saül, ton père, envers ses frères et envers ses amis, et qui ne t'ai pas livré aux mains de David, que tu m'imputes aujourd'hui de l'iniquité à cause de cette femme ? ⁹ Que Dieu fasse ainsi à Abner et ainsi y ajoute, si je ne fais pas à David comme l'Éternel lui a juré, ¹⁰ en faisant passer le royaume de la maison de Saül, et en établissant le trône de David sur Israël et sur Juda, depuis Dan jusqu'à Beër-Shéba ! ¹¹ Et [Ish-Bosheth] ne put répliquer un mot à Abner, parce qu'il avait peur de lui. ¹² Et Abner envoya des messagers à David de sa part, disant : À qui est le pays ? - disant : Fais alliance avec moi ; et voici, ma main sera avec toi pour tourner vers toi tout Israël. ¹³ Et [David] dit : Bien, je ferai alliance avec toi ; seulement je demande de toi une chose, savoir : Tu ne verras pas ma face, à moins qu'auparavant tu ne fasses venir Mical, fille de Saül, quand tu viendras pour voir ma face. ¹⁴ Et David envoya des messagers à Ish-Bosheth, fils de Saül, disant : Donne-moi ma femme Mical, que je me suis fiancée pour cent prépuces de Philistins. ¹⁵ Et Ish-Bosheth envoya, et la prit d'auprès de son mari, d'auprès de Paltiel, fils de Laïsh. ¹⁶ Et son mari alla avec elle, marchant et pleurant après elle, jusqu'à Bakhurim. Et Abner lui dit : Va, retourne-t'en. Et il s'en retourna. ¹⁷ Et Abner s'était entretenu avec les anciens d'Israël, disant : Ci-devant vous recherchiez David, pour qu'il fût roi sur vous ; ¹⁸ et maintenant, agissez ; car l'Éternel a parlé touchant David, disant : Par la main de David, mon serviteur, je délivrerai* mon peuple Israël de la main des Philistins et de la main de tous ses ennemis. ¹⁹ Et Abner parla aussi aux oreilles de Benjamin, et Abner alla aussi pour dire aux oreilles de David, à Hébron, tout ce qui était bon aux yeux d'Israël et aux yeux de toute la maison de Benjamin. ²⁰ Et Abner vint vers David, à Hébron, et avec lui vingt hommes ; et David fit un festin à Abner, ainsi qu'aux hommes qui étaient avec lui. ²¹ Et Abner dit à David : Je me lèverai, et j'irai, et j'assemblerai vers mon seigneur, le roi, tout Israël ; et ils feront alliance avec toi ; et tu régneras sur tout ce que ton âme désire. Et David congédia Abner, et il s'en alla en paix.
   ²² Et voici, les serviteurs de David, et Joab, revenaient d'une expédition, et ils amenaient avec eux un grand butin ; et Abner n'était pas avec David, à Hébron, car il l'avait congédié, et il s'en était allé en paix. ²³ Et Joab et toute l'armée qui était avec lui vinrent ; et on rapporta à Joab, en disant : Abner, fils de Ner, est venu vers le roi qui l'a congédié, et il s'en est allé en paix. ²⁴ Et Joab entra auprès du roi, et dit : Qu'as-tu fait ? Voici, Abner est venu vers toi ; pourquoi l'as-tu congédié, en sorte qu'il s'en est allé ? ²⁵ Tu connais Abner, fils de Ner, qu'il est venu pour te tromper, et pour connaître tes sorties et tes entrées, et pour savoir tout ce que tu fais. ²⁶ Et Joab sortit d'auprès de David, et envoya après Abner des messagers qui le firent rebrousser depuis la citerne de Sira ; et David ne le savait pas. ²⁷ Et Abner revint à Hébron, et Joab le tira à part au milieu de la porte, pour lui parler tranquillement, et là il le frappa au ventre, en sorte qu'il mourut, à cause du sang de son frère Asçaël. ²⁸ Et David l'apprit plus tard, et il dit : Je suis innocent, moi et mon royaume, devant l'Éternel, à jamais, du sang d'Abner, fils de Ner : ²⁹ qu'il tombe sur la tête de Joab, et sur toute la maison de son père ; et que la maison de Joab ne soit jamais sans un homme ayant un flux, ou la lèpre, ou qui s'appuie sur un bâton, ou qui tombe par l'épée, ou qui manque de pain. ³⁰ Ainsi Joab et Abishaï, son frère, tuèrent Abner, parce qu'il avait donné la mort à Asçaël, leur frère, à Gabaon, dans la bataille. ³¹ Et David dit à Joab et à tout le peuple qui était avec lui : Déchirez vos vêtements et ceignez-vous de sacs, et menez deuil devant Abner. Et le roi David marchait après le cercueil. ³² Et ils enterrèrent Abner à Hébron ; et le roi éleva sa voix et pleura au sépulcre d'Abner ; et tout le peuple pleura. ³³ Et le roi prononça une complainte sur Abner, et dit : Abner devait-il mourir comme meurt un insensé* ? ³⁴ Tes mains n'étaient pas liées, et tes pieds n'avaient pas été mis dans des chaînes ; tu es tombé comme on tombe devant les fils d'iniquité. Et tout le peuple pleura encore sur lui. ³⁵ Et tout le peuple vint vers David pour l'engager à manger du pain, pendant qu'il était encore jour ; mais David jura, disant : Que Dieu me fasse ainsi et ainsi y ajoute, si avant que le soleil se soit couché, je goûte du pain ou aucune autre chose ! ³⁶ Et tout le peuple y eut égard, et cela fut bon à leurs yeux, comme tout ce que faisait le roi était bon aux yeux de tout le peuple. ³⁷ Et en ce jour-là tout le peuple et tout Israël reconnurent que ce n'était point de par le roi qu'on avait fait mourir Abner, fils de Ner. ³⁸ Et le roi dit à ses serviteurs : Ne savez-vous pas qu'un prince, et un grand homme, est tombé aujourd'hui en Israël ? ³⁹ Et moi, je suis aujourd'hui faible, bien que j'aie reçu l'onction de roi* ; et ces hommes-là, les fils de Tseruïa, sont trop durs pour moi. Que l'Éternel rende à celui qui fait le mal, selon son méfait** !

2 Samuel 4

   ¹ Et quand le fils de Saül apprit qu'Abner était mort à Hébron, ses mains furent affaiblies, et tout Israël fut troublé. ² Et il y avait deux hommes, chefs de bandes du fils de Saül ; le nom de l'un était Baana, et le nom du second, Récab : [ils étaient] fils de Rimmon, le Beérothien, d'entre les fils de Benjamin ; car aussi Beéroth est comptée comme étant de Benjamin. ³ Et les Beérothiens s'enfuirent à Guitthaïm, et ils y ont séjourné jusqu'à aujourd'hui. ⁴ Et Jonathan, fils de Saül, avait un fils perclus des pieds ; il était âgé de cinq ans lorsque le bruit touchant Saül et Jonathan vint de Jizreël ; et sa nourrice l'emporta, et s'enfuit ; et il arriva que, comme elle se hâtait de fuir, il tomba et devint boiteux ; et son nom était Mephibosheth*. ⁵ Et les fils de Rimmon, le Beérothien, Récab et Baana, s'en allèrent et vinrent, pendant la chaleur du jour, dans la maison d'Ish-Bosheth ; et il était couché pour son repos de midi. ⁶ Et ils entrèrent jusque dans l'intérieur de la maison, comme pour prendre du froment, et ils le frappèrent au ventre ; et Récab et Baana, son frère, s'échappèrent. ⁷ Ils entrèrent dans la maison pendant qu'il était couché sur son lit dans sa chambre à coucher, et ils le frappèrent et le tuèrent ; et ils lui ôtèrent la tête, et ils prirent sa tête, et s'en allèrent toute la nuit par le chemin de la plaine*. ⁸ Et ils apportèrent la tête d'Ish-Bosheth à David, à Hébron, et ils dirent au roi : Voici la tête d'Ish-Bosheth, fils de Saül, ton ennemi qui cherchait ta vie ; et l'Éternel a donné en ce jour au roi, mon seigneur, d'être vengé de Saül et de sa race*.
   ⁹ Et David répondit à Récab et à Baana son frère, fils de Rimmon, le Beérothien, et leur dit : L'Éternel est vivant, qui a racheté mon âme de toute détresse, ¹⁰ que celui qui me rapporta, disant : Voici, Saül est mort ! et qui était à ses propres yeux comme un messager de bonnes nouvelles, je le saisis et le tuai à Tsiklag, lui donnant [ainsi] le salaire de sa bonne nouvelle : ¹¹ combien plus, quand de méchants hommes ont tué un homme juste dans sa maison, sur son lit ! Et maintenant, ne redemanderai-je pas son sang de votre main ; et ne vous exterminerai-je pas de la terre ? ¹² Et David commanda à ses jeunes hommes, et ils les tuèrent et leur coupèrent les mains et les pieds, et les pendirent au réservoir de Hébron. Et on prit la tête d'Ish-Bosheth, et on l'enterra dans le sépulcre d'Abner, à Hébron.

2 Samuel 5

   ¹ Et toutes les tribus d'Israël vinrent vers David à Hébron, et parlèrent, disant : Voici, nous sommes ton os et ta chair. ² Et autrefois, quand Saül était roi sur nous, c'était toi qui faisais sortir et qui faisais entrer Israël ; et l'Éternel t'a dit : Tu paîtras mon peuple Israël, et tu seras prince sur Israël. ³ Et tous les anciens d'Israël vinrent vers le roi à Hébron ; et le roi David fit alliance avec eux à Hébron, devant l'Éternel ; et ils oignirent David pour roi sur Israël. * ⁴ David était âgé de trente ans lorsqu'il devint roi ; il régna quarante ans. ⁵ Il régna à Hébron, sur Juda, sept ans et six mois ; et, à Jérusalem, il régna trente-trois ans sur tout Israël et Juda.
   ⁶ Et le roi alla avec ses hommes à Jérusalem contre les Jébusiens, habitants du pays ; et ils parlèrent à David, disant : Tu n'entreras point ici ; mais les aveugles et les boiteux te repousseront ; - pour dire : David n'entrera pas ici. ⁷ Mais David prit la forteresse de Sion ; c'est la ville de David. ⁸ Et David dit en ce jour-là : Quiconque frappera les Jébusiens et atteindra le canal, et les boiteux et* les aveugles qui sont haïs de l'âme de David… ! C'est pourquoi on dit : L'aveugle et le boiteux n'entreront pas dans la maison. ⁹ Et David habita dans la forteresse, et l'appela ville de David ; et David bâtit tout autour, depuis Millo* vers l'intérieur. ¹⁰ Et David allait grandissant de plus en plus ; et l'Éternel, le Dieu des armées, était avec lui.

   ¹ Now there was long war between the house of Saul and the house of David: but David waxed stronger and stronger, and the house of Saul waxed weaker and weaker. ² And unto David were sons born in Hebron: and his firstborn was Amnon, of Ahinoam the Jezreelitess; ³ And his second, Chileab, of Abigail the wife of Nabal the Carmelite; and the third, Absalom the son of Maacah the daughter of Talmai king of Geshur; ⁴ And the fourth, Adonijah the son of Haggith; and the fifth, Shephatiah the son of Abital; ⁵ And the sixth, Ithream, by Eglah David's wife.    ⁷ And Saul had a concubine, whose name was Rizpah, the daughter of Aiah: and Ishbosheth said to Abner, Wherefore hast thou gone in unto my father's concubine? ⁸ Then was Abner very wroth for the words of Ishbosheth, and said, Am I a dog's head, which against Judah do shew kindness this day unto the house of Saul thy father, to his brethren, and to his friends, and have not delivered thee into the hand of David, that thou chargest me to day with a fault concerning this woman? ⁹ So do God to Abner, and more also, except, as the LORD hath sworn to David, even so I do to him; ¹⁰ To translate the kingdom from the house of Saul, and to set up the throne of David over Israel and over Judah, from Dan even to Beersheba. ¹¹ And he could not answer Abner a word again, because he feared him. ¹² And Abner sent messengers to David on his behalf, saying, Whose is the land? saying also, Make thy league with me, and, behold, my hand shall be with thee, to bring about all Israel unto thee. ¹³ And he said, Well; I will make a league with thee: but one thing I require of thee, that is, Thou shalt not see my face, except thou first bring Michal Saul's daughter, when thou comest to see my face. ¹⁴ And David sent messengers to Ishbosheth Saul's son, saying, Deliver me my wife Michal, which I espoused to me for an hundred foreskins of the Philistines. ¹⁵ And Ishbosheth sent, and took her from her husband, even from Phaltiel the son of Laish. ¹⁶ And her husband went with her along weeping behind her to Bahurim. Then said Abner unto him, Go, return. And he returned. ¹⁷ And Abner had communication with the elders of Israel, saying, Ye sought for David in times past to be king over you: ¹⁸ Now then do it: for the LORD hath spoken of David, saying, By the hand of my servant David I will save my people Israel out of the hand of the Philistines, and out of the hand of all their enemies. ¹⁹ And Abner also spake in the ears of Benjamin: and Abner went also to speak in the ears of David in Hebron all that seemed good to Israel, and that seemed good to the whole house of Benjamin. ²⁰ So Abner came to David to Hebron, and twenty men with him.    ²² And, behold, the servants of David and Joab came from pursuing a troop, and brought in a great spoil with them: but Abner was not with David in Hebron; for he had sent him away, and he was gone in peace. ²³ When Joab and all the host that was with him were come, they told Joab, saying, Abner the son of Ner came to the king, and he hath sent him away, and he is gone in peace. ²⁴ Then Joab came to the king, and said, What hast thou done? behold, Abner came unto thee; why is it that thou hast sent him away, and he is quite gone? ²⁵ Thou knowest Abner the son of Ner, that he came to deceive thee, and to know thy going out and thy coming in, and to know all that thou doest. ²⁶ And when Joab was come out from David, he sent messengers after Abner, which brought him again from the well of Sirah: but David knew it not. ²⁷ And when Abner was returned to Hebron, Joab took him aside in the gate to speak with him quietly, and smote him there under the fifth rib, that he died, for the blood of Asahel his brother. ²⁸ And afterward when David heard it, he said, I and my kingdom are guiltless before the LORD for ever from the blood of Abner the son of Ner: ²⁹ Let it rest on the head of Joab, and on all his father's house; and let there not fail from the house of Joab one that hath an issue, or that is a leper, or that leaneth on a staff, or that falleth on the sword, or that lacketh bread. ³⁰ So Joab, and Abishai his brother slew Abner, because he had slain their brother Asahel at Gibeon in the battle. ³¹ And David said to Joab, and to all the people that were with him, Rend your clothes, and gird you with sackcloth, and mourn before Abner. And king David himself followed the bier. ³² And they buried Abner in Hebron: and the king lifted up his voice, and wept at the grave of Abner; and all the people wept. ³³ And the king lamented over Abner, and said, Died Abner as a fool dieth? ³⁴ Thy hands were not bound, nor thy feet put into fetters: as a man falleth before wicked men, so fellest thou. And all the people wept again over him. ³⁵ And when all the people came to cause David to eat meat while it was yet day, David sware, saying, So do God to me, and more also, if I taste bread, or ought else, till the sun be down. ³⁶ And all the people took notice of it, and it pleased them: as whatsoever the king did pleased all the people. ³⁷ For all the people and all Israel understood that day that it was not of the king to slay Abner the son of Ner. ³⁸ And the king said unto his servants, Know ye not that there is a prince and a great man fallen this day in Israel? ³⁹ And I am this day weak, though anointed king; and these men the sons of Zeruiah be too hard for me: the LORD shall reward the doer of evil according to his wickedness.

   ¹ And when Saul's son heard that Abner was dead in Hebron, his hands were feeble, and all the Israelites were troubled. ² And Saul's son had two men that were captains of bands: the name of the one was Baanah, and the name of the other Rechab, the sons of Rimmon a Beerothite, of the children of Benjamin: (for Beeroth also was reckoned to Benjamin. ³ And the Beerothites fled to Gittaim, and were sojourners there until this day.) ⁴ And Jonathan, Saul's son, had a son that was lame of his feet. He was five years old when the tidings came of Saul and Jonathan out of Jezreel, and his nurse took him up, and fled: and it came to pass, as she made haste to flee, that he fell, and became lame. And his name was Mephibosheth. ⁵ And the sons of Rimmon the Beerothite, Rechab and Baanah, went, and came about the heat of the day to the house of Ishbosheth, who lay on a bed at noon. ⁶ And they came thither into the midst of the house, as though they would have fetched wheat; and they smote him under the fifth rib: and Rechab and Baanah his brother escaped. ⁷ For when they came into the house, he lay on his bed in his bedchamber, and they smote him, and slew him, and beheaded him, and took his head, and gat them away through the plain all night. ⁸ And they brought the head of Ishbosheth unto David to Hebron, and said to the king, Behold the head of Ishbosheth the son of Saul thine enemy, which sought thy life; and the LORD hath avenged my lord the king this day of Saul, and of his seed.
   ⁹ And David answered Rechab and Baanah his brother, the sons of Rimmon the Beerothite, and said unto them, As the LORD liveth, who hath redeemed my soul out of all adversity, ¹⁰ When one told me, saying, Behold, Saul is dead, thinking to have brought good tidings, I took hold of him, and slew him in Ziklag, who thought that I would have given him a reward for his tidings: ¹¹ How much more, when wicked men have slain a righteous person in his own house upon his bed? shall I not therefore now require his blood of your hand, and take you away from the earth? ¹² And David commanded his young men, and they slew them, and cut off their hands and their feet, and hanged them up over the pool in Hebron. But they took the head of Ishbosheth, and buried it in the sepulchre of Abner in Hebron.

2 Samuel 5

   ¹ Then came all the tribes of Israel to David unto Hebron, and spake, saying, Behold, we are thy bone and thy flesh. ² Also in time past, when Saul was king over us, thou wast he that leddest out and broughtest in Israel: and the LORD said to thee, Thou shalt feed my people Israel, and thou shalt be a captain over Israel. ³ So all the elders of Israel came to the king to Hebron; and king David made a league with them in Hebron before the LORD: and they anointed David king over Israel. ⁴ David was thirty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned forty years. ⁵ In Hebron he reigned over Judah seven years and six months: and in Jerusalem he reigned thirty and three years over all Israel and Judah.
   ⁶ And the king and his men went to Jerusalem unto the Jebusites, the inhabitants of the land: which spake unto David, saying, Except thou take away the blind and the lame, thou shalt not come in hither: thinking, David cannot come in hither. ⁷ Nevertheless David took the strong hold of Zion: the same is the city of David. ⁸ And David said on that day, Whosoever getteth up to the gutter, and smiteth the Jebusites, and the lame and the blind that are hated of David's soul, he shall be chief and captain. Wherefore they said, The blind and the lame shall not come into the house. ⁹ So David dwelt in the fort, and called it the city of David. And David built round about from Millo and inward. ¹⁰ And David went on, and grew great, and the LORD God of hosts was with him.

   ²⁶ Egressus itaque Joab a David, misit nuntios post Abner, et reduxit eum a cisterna Sira, ignorante David.
   ²⁷ Cumque rediisset Abner in Hebron, seorsum adduxit eum Joab ad medium portæ ut loqueretur ei, in dolo : et percussit illum ibi in inguine, et mortuus est in ultionem sanguinis Asaël fratris ejus.
   ²⁸ Quod cum audisset David rem jam gestam, ait : Mundus ego sum, et regnum meum apud Dominum usque in sempiternum, a sanguine Abner filii Ner :
   ²⁹ et veniat super caput Joab, et super omnem domum patris ejus : nec deficiat de domo Joab fluxum seminis sustinens, et leprosus, et tenens fusum, et cadens gladio, et indigens pane.
   ³⁰ Igitur Joab et Abisai frater ejus interfecerunt Abner, eo quod occidisset Asaël fratrem eorum in Gabaon in prælio.
   ³¹ Dixit autem David ad Joab, et ad omnem populum qui erat cum eo : Scindite vestimenta vestra, et accingimini saccis, et plangite ante exequias Abner. Porro rex David sequebatur feretrum.
   ³² Cumque sepelissent Abner in Hebron, levavit rex David vocem suam, et flevit super tumulum Abner : flevit autem et omnis populus.
   ³³ Plangensque rex, et lugens Abner, ait : [Nequaquam ut mori solent ignavi, mortuus est Abner.
   ³⁴ Manus tuæ ligatæ non sunt,
et pedes tui non sunt compedibus aggravati :
sed sicut solent cadere coram filiis iniquitatis, sic corruisti.] Congeminansque omnis populus flevit super eum.
   ³⁵ Cumque venisset universa multitudo cibum capere cum David, clara adhuc die juravit David, dicens : Hæc faciat mihi Deus, et hæc addat, si ante occasum solis gustavero panem vel aliud quidquam.
   ³⁶ Omnisque populus audivit, et placuerunt eis cuncta quæ fecit rex in conspectu totius populi.
   ³⁷ Et cognovit omne vulgus et universus Israël in die illa, quoniam non actum fuisset a rege ut occideretur Abner filius Ner.
   ³⁸ Dixit quoque rex ad servos suos : Num ignoratis quoniam princeps et maximus cecidit hodie in Israël ?
   ³⁹ Ego autem adhuc delicatus, et unctus rex : porro viri isti filii Sarviæ duri sunt mihi : retribuat Dominus facienti malum juxta malitiam suam.

2 Samuel 4

   ¹ Audivit autem Isboseth filius Saul quod cecidisset Abner in Hebron : et dissolutæ sunt manus ejus, omnisque Israël perturbatus est.
   ² Duo autem viri principes latronum erant filio Saul, nomen uni Baana, et nomen alteri Rechab, filii Remmon Berothitæ de filiis Benjamin : siquidem et Beroth reputata est in Benjamin.
   ³ Et fugerunt Berothitæ in Gethaim, fueruntque ibi advenæ usque ad tempus illud.
   ⁴ Erat autem Jonathæ filio Saul filius debilis pedibus : quinquennis enim fuit, quando venit nuntius de Saul et Jonatha ex Jezrahel. Tollens itaque eum nutrix sua, fugit : cumque festinaret ut fugeret, cecidit, et claudus effectus est : habuitque vocabulum Miphiboseth.
   ⁵ Venientes igitur filii Remmon Berothitæ, Rechab et Baana, ingressi sunt fervente die domum Isboseth : qui dormiebat super stratum suum meridie. Et ostiaria domus purgans triticum, obdormivit.
   ⁶ Ingressi sunt autem domum latenter assumentes spicas tritici, et percusserunt eum in inguine Rechab, et Baana frater ejus, et fugerunt.
   ⁷ Cum autem ingressi fuissent domum, ille dormiebat super lectum suum in conclavi, et percutientes interfecerunt eum : sublatoque capite ejus, abierunt per viam deserti tota nocte,
   ⁸ et attulerunt caput Isboseth ad David in Hebron : dixeruntque ad regem : Ecce caput Isboseth filii Saul inimici tui, qui quærebat animam tuam : et dedit Dominus domino meo regi ultionem hodie de Saul, et de semine ejus.
   ⁹ Respondens autem David Rechab, et Baana fratri ejus, filiis Remmon Berothitæ, dixit ad eos : Vivit Dominus, qui eruit animam meam de omni angustia,
   ¹⁰ quoniam eum qui annuntiaverat mihi, et dixerat : Mortuus est Saul : qui putabat se prospera nuntiare, tenui, et occidi eum in Siceleg, cui oportebat mercedem dare pro nuntio.
   ¹¹ Quanto magis nunc cum homines impii interfecerunt virum innoxium in domo sua, super lectum suum, non quæram sanguinem ejus de manu vestra, et auferam vos de terra ?
   ¹² Præcepit itaque David pueris suis, et interfecerunt eos : præcidentesque manus et pedes eorum, suspenderunt eos super piscinam in Hebron : caput autem Isboseth tulerunt, et sepelierunt in sepulchro Abner in Hebron.

2 Samuel 5

   ¹ Et venerunt universæ tribus Israël ad David in Hebron, dicentes : Ecce nos os tuum et caro tua sumus.
   ² Sed et heri et nudiustertius cum esset Saul rex super nos, tu eras educens et reducens Israël : dixit autem Dominus ad te : Tu pasces populum meum Israël, et tu eris dux super Israël.
   ³ Venerunt quoque et seniores Israël ad regem in Hebron, et percussit cum eis rex David fœdus in Hebron coram Domino : unxeruntque David in regem super Israël.
   ⁴ Filius triginta annorum erat David cum regnare cœpisset, et quadraginta annis regnavit.
   ⁵ In Hebron regnavit super Judam septem annis et sex mensibus : in Jerusalem autem regnavit triginta tribus annis super omnem Israël et Judam.
   ⁶ Et abiit rex, et omnes viri qui erant cum eo, in Jerusalem, ad Jebusæum habitatorem terræ : dictumque est David ab eis : Non ingredieris huc, nisi abstuleris cæcos et claudos dicentes : Non ingredietur David huc.
   ⁷ Cepit autem David arcem Sion : hæc est civitas David.
   ⁸ Proposuerat enim David in die illa præmium, qui percussisset Jebusæum, et tetigisset domatum fistulas, et abstulisset cæcos et claudos odientes animam David. Idcirco dicitur in proverbio : Cæcus et claudus non intrabunt in templum.
   ⁹ Habitavit autem David in arce, et vocavit eam civitatem David : et ædificavit per gyrum a Mello et intrinsecus.
   ¹⁰ Et ingrediebatur proficiens atque succrescens, et Dominus Deus exercituum erat cum eo.
