DRB ² Et il dit : Hommes frères et pères*, écoutez : Le Dieu de gloire apparut à notre père Abraham, lorsqu'il était en Mésopotamie, avant qu'il habitât en Charran, et il lui dit :

KJV ² And he said, Men, brethren, and fathers, hearken; The God of glory appeared unto our father Abraham, when he was in Mesopotamia, before he dwelt in Charran,

S21 ² Etienne répondit: «Mes frères et pères, écoutez! Le Dieu de gloire est apparu à notre ancêtre Abraham lorsqu'il était en Mésopotamie, avant qu'il ne s'installe à Charan, et lui a dit:

DRB ³ Sors de ton pays et de ta parenté, et viens au pays que je te montrerai.

KJV ³ And said unto him, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and come into the land which I shall shew thee.

S21 ³ Quitte ton pays et ta famille et va dans le pays que je te montrerai. 

DRB ⁴ Alors, sortant du pays des Chaldéens, il habita en Charran ; et de là, après que son père fut mort, Dieu le fit passer dans ce pays où vous habitez maintenant.

KJV ⁴ Then came he out of the land of the Chaldaeans, and dwelt in Charran: and from thence, when his father was dead, he removed him into this land, wherein ye now dwell.

S21 ⁴ Il a alors quitté le pays des Chaldéens et est allé habiter à Charan. De là, après la mort de son père, Dieu l'a fait passer dans le pays que vous habitez maintenant.

DRB ⁵ Et il ne lui donna pas d'héritage dans ce pays, pas même où poser son pied, et il lui promit de le lui donner en possession, et à sa postérité après lui, alors qu'il n'avait point d'enfant.

KJV ⁵ And he gave him none inheritance in it, no, not so much as to set his foot on: yet he promised that he would give it to him for a possession, and to his seed after him, when as yet he had no child.

S21 ⁵ Il ne lui a donné aucun héritage dans ce pays, pas même de quoi poser le pied, mais il a promis de lui en donner la possession, ainsi qu'à sa descendance après lui, alors même qu'il n'avait pas d'enfant.

DRB ⁶ Et Dieu parla ainsi : «Sa postérité séjournera dans une terre étrangère, et on l'asservira et on la maltraitera pendant quatre cents ans ;

KJV ⁶ And God spake on this wise, That his seed should sojourn in a strange land; and that they should bring them into bondage, and entreat them evil four hundred years.

S21 ⁶ Voici ce que Dieu a dit: Ses descendants séjourneront dans un pays étranger; on les réduira en esclavage et on les maltraitera pendant 400 ans.

DRB ⁷ et je jugerai, moi, la nation à laquelle ils auront été asservis, dit Dieu ; et après cela ils sortiront et me serviront en ce lieu-ci» {Genèse 15:13-16}.

KJV ⁷ And the nation to whom they shall be in bondage will I judge, said God: and after that shall they come forth, and serve me in this place.

S21 ⁷ Cependant, la nation dont ils seront esclaves, c'est moi-même qui la jugerai, dit Dieu. Après cela, ils sortiront et ils me serviront dans ce lieu-ci. 

DRB ⁸ Et il lui donna l'alliance de la circoncision ; et ainsi Abraham engendra Isaac et le circoncit le huitième jour ; et Isaac, Jacob ; et Jacob, les douze patriarches.

KJV ⁸ And he gave him the covenant of circumcision: and so Abraham begat Isaac, and circumcised him the eighth day; and Isaac begat Jacob; and Jacob begat the twelve patriarchs.

S21 ⁸ Puis Dieu a donné à Abraham l'alliance de la circoncision; ainsi, Abraham a eu pour fils Isaac et l'a circoncis le huitième jour, Isaac a fait de même pour Jacob, et Jacob pour les douze patriarches.

DRB ⁹ Et les patriarches, étant pleins d'envie contre Joseph, le vendirent [pour être mené] en Égypte ; et Dieu était avec lui ;

KJV ⁹ And the patriarchs, moved with envy, sold Joseph into Egypt: but God was with him,

S21 ⁹ »Les patriarches, jaloux de Joseph, l'ont vendu pour qu'il soit emmené en Egypte, mais Dieu était avec lui

DRB ¹⁰ et il le délivra de toutes ses afflictions, et lui fit trouver grâce et sagesse auprès du Pharaon, roi d'Égypte ; et il l'établit gouverneur sur l'Égypte et sur toute sa maison.

KJV ¹⁰ And delivered him out of all his afflictions, and gave him favour and wisdom in the sight of Pharaoh king of Egypt; and he made him governor over Egypt and all his house.

S21 ¹⁰ et l'a délivré de toutes ses détresses. Il lui a donné la sagesse et la grâce devant le pharaon, le roi d'Egypte, qui l'a établi gouverneur de l'Egypte et de toute sa maison.

DRB ¹¹ Or il survint une famine dans tout le pays d'Égypte et en Canaan, et une grande détresse, et nos pères ne trouvèrent pas de nourriture.

KJV ¹¹ Now there came a dearth over all the land of Egypt and Chanaan, and great affliction: and our fathers found no sustenance.

S21 ¹¹ Il est alors survenu une famine dans toute l'Egypte et en Canaan. La détresse était grande et nos ancêtres ne trouvaient pas de quoi manger.

DRB ¹² Et Jacob, ayant ouï dire qu'il y avait du blé en Égypte, y envoya une première fois nos pères ;

KJV ¹² But when Jacob heard that there was corn in Egypt, he sent out our fathers first.

S21 ¹² Jacob a appris qu'il y avait du blé en Egypte et il y a envoyé nos ancêtres une première fois.

DRB ¹³ et, la seconde fois, Joseph fut reconnu de ses frères, et la famille de Joseph fut connue du Pharaon.

KJV ¹³ And at the second time Joseph was made known to his brethren; and Joseph's kindred was made known unto Pharaoh.

S21 ¹³ La deuxième fois, Joseph s'est fait reconnaître par ses frères et le pharaon a ainsi appris quelle était son origine.

DRB ¹⁴ Et Joseph envoya chercher son père Jacob et toute sa parenté, en [tout] soixante-quinze âmes.

KJV ¹⁴ Then sent Joseph, and called his father Jacob to him, and all his kindred, threescore and fifteen souls.

S21 ¹⁴ Puis Joseph a envoyé chercher son père Jacob et toute sa famille, composée de 75 personnes.

DRB ¹⁵ Et Jacob descendit en Égypte ; et il mourut, lui et nos pères,

KJV ¹⁵ So Jacob went down into Egypt, and died, he, and our fathers,

S21 ¹⁵ Jacob est descendu en Egypte, où il est mort, ainsi que nos ancêtres.

DRB ¹⁶ et ils furent transportés à Sichem, et mis dans le sépulcre qu'Abraham avait acheté à prix d'argent des fils d'Emmor, le [père] de Sichem.

KJV ¹⁶ And were carried over into Sychem, and laid in the sepulchre that Abraham bought for a sum of money of the sons of Emmor the father of Sychem.

S21 ¹⁶ Leurs corps ont été transportés à Sichem et déposés dans le tombeau qu'Abraham avait acheté à prix d'argent aux fils d'Hamor à Sichem.
