KJV ⁸ But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king's meat, nor with the wine which he drank: therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself.

MAR ⁸ Or Daniel se proposa dans son coeur de ne se point souiller par la portion de la viande du Roi, ni par le vin dont le Roi buvait ; c'est pourquoi il supplia le Chef des Eunuques afin qu'il ne l'engageât point à se souiller.

VULC ⁸ Proposuit autem Daniel in corde suo ne pollueretur de mensa regis, neque de vino potus ejus : et rogavit eunuchorum præpositum ne contaminaretur.

WLC ⁸ וַיָּ֤שֶׂם דָּנִיֵּאל֙ עַל־ לִבּ֔וֹ אֲשֶׁ֧ר לֹֽא־ יִתְגָּאַ֛ל בְּפַתְבַּ֥ג הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ וּבְיֵ֣ין מִשְׁתָּ֑יו וַיְבַקֵּשׁ֙ מִשַּׂ֣ר הַסָּרִיסִ֔ים אֲשֶׁ֖ר לֹ֥א יִתְגָּאָֽל׃

KJV ⁹ Now God had brought Daniel into favour and tender love with the prince of the eunuchs.

MAR ⁹ Et Dieu fit que le Chef des Eunuques eut de la bonté pour Daniel, et qu'il eut pitié de lui.

VULC ⁹ Dedit autem Deus Danieli gratiam et misericordiam in conspectu principis eunuchorum.

WLC ⁹ וַיִּתֵּ֤ן הָֽאֱלֹהִים֙ אֶת־ דָּ֣נִיֵּ֔אל לְחֶ֖סֶד וּֽלְרַחֲמִ֑ים לִפְנֵ֖י שַׂ֥ר הַסָּרִיסִֽים׃

KJV ¹⁰ And the prince of the eunuchs said unto Daniel, I fear my lord the king, who hath appointed your meat and your drink: for why should he see your faces worse liking than the children which are of your sort? then shall ye make me endanger my head to the king.

MAR ¹⁰ Toutefois le Capitaine des Eunuques dit à Daniel : Je crains le Roi mon maître, qui a ordonné votre manger et votre boire ; pourquoi verrait-il vos visages plus défaits que ceux des autres jeunes enfants vos semblables, et rendriez-vous ma tête coupable envers le Roi ?

VULC ¹⁰ Et ait princeps eunuchorum ad Danielem : Timeo ego dominum meum regem, qui constituit vobis cibum et potum : qui si viderit vultus vestros macilentiores præ ceteris adolescentibus coævis vestris, condemnabitis caput meum regi.

WLC ¹⁰ וַיֹּ֜אמֶר שַׂ֤ר הַסָּרִיסִים֙ לְדָ֣נִיֵּ֔אל יָרֵ֤א אֲנִי֙ אֶת־ אֲדֹנִ֣י הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ אֲשֶׁ֣ר מִנָּ֔ה אֶת־ מַאֲכַלְכֶ֖ם וְאֶת־ מִשְׁתֵּיכֶ֑ם אֲשֶׁ֡ר לָמָּה֩ יִרְאֶ֨ה אֶת־ פְּנֵיכֶ֜ם זֹֽעֲפִ֗ים מִן־ הַיְלָדִים֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר כְּגִֽילְכֶ֔ם וְחִיַּבְתֶּ֥ם אֶת־ רֹאשִׁ֖י לַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃

KJV ¹¹ Then said Daniel to Melzar, whom the prince of the eunuchs had set over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah,

MAR ¹¹ Mais Daniel dit à Meltsar, qui avait été ordonné par le Capitaine des Eunuques sur Daniel, Hanania, Misaël, et Hazaria ;

VULC ¹¹ Et dixit Daniel ad Malasar, quem constituerat princeps eunuchorum super Danielem, Ananiam, Misaëlem, et Azariam :

WLC ¹¹ וַיֹּ֥אמֶר דָּנִיֵּ֖אל אֶל־ הַמֶּלְצַ֑ר אֲשֶׁ֤ר מִנָּה֙ שַׂ֣ר הַסָּֽרִיסִ֔ים עַל־ דָּנִיֵּ֣אל חֲנַנְיָ֔ה מִֽישָׁאֵ֖ל וַעֲזַרְיָֽה׃

KJV ¹² Prove thy servants, I beseech thee, ten days; and let them give us pulse to eat, and water to drink.

MAR ¹² Eprouve, je te prie, tes serviteurs pendant dix jours, et qu'on nous donne des légumes à manger, et de l'eau à boire.

VULC ¹² Tenta nos, obsecro, servos tuos, diebus decem, et dentur nobis legumina ad vescendum, et aqua ad bibendum :

WLC ¹² נַס־ נָ֥א אֶת־ עֲבָדֶ֖יךָ יָמִ֣ים עֲשָׂרָ֑ה וְיִתְּנוּ־ לָ֜נוּ מִן־ הַזֵּרֹעִ֛ים וְנֹאכְלָ֖ה וּמַ֥יִם וְנִשְׁתֶּֽה׃

KJV ¹³ Then let our countenances be looked upon before thee, and the countenance of the children that eat of the portion of the king's meat: and as thou seest, deal with thy servants.

MAR ¹³ Et après cela regarde nos visages, et les visages des jeunes enfants qui mangent la portion de la viande Royale ; puis tu feras à tes serviteurs selon ce que tu auras vu.

VULC ¹³ et contemplare vultus nostros, et vultus puerorum, qui vescuntur cibo regio : et sicut videris, facies cum servis tuis.

WLC ¹³ וְיֵרָא֤וּ לְפָנֶ֙יךָ֙ מַרְאֵ֔ינוּ וּמַרְאֵה֙ הַיְלָדִ֔ים הָאֹ֣כְלִ֔ים אֵ֖ת פַּתְבַּ֣ג הַמֶּ֑לֶךְ וְכַאֲשֶׁ֣ר תִּרְאֵ֔ה עֲשֵׂ֖ה עִם־ עֲבָדֶֽיךָ׃

KJV ¹⁴ So he consented to them in this matter, and proved them ten days.

MAR ¹⁴ Et il leur accorda cela, et les éprouva pendant dix jours.

VULC ¹⁴ Qui, audito sermone hujuscemodi, tentavit eos diebus decem.

WLC ¹⁴ וַיִּשְׁמַ֥ע לָהֶ֖ם לַדָּבָ֣ר הַזֶּ֑ה וַיְנַסֵּ֖ם יָמִ֥ים עֲשָׂרָֽה׃

KJV ¹⁵ And at the end of ten days their countenances appeared fairer and fatter in flesh than all the children which did eat the portion of the king's meat.

MAR ¹⁵ Mais au bout des dix jours leurs visages parurent en meilleur état, et ils avaient plus d'embonpoint que tous les jeunes enfants qui mangeaient la portion de la viande Royale.

VULC ¹⁵ Post dies autem decem, apparuerunt vultus eorum meliores, et corpulentiores præ omnibus pueris, qui vescebantur cibo regio.

WLC ¹⁵ וּמִקְצָת֙ יָמִ֣ים עֲשָׂרָ֔ה נִרְאָ֤ה מַרְאֵיהֶם֙ ט֔וֹב וּבְרִיאֵ֖י בָּשָׂ֑ר מִן־ כָּל־ הַיְלָדִ֔ים הָאֹ֣כְלִ֔ים אֵ֖ת פַּתְבַּ֥ג הַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃

KJV ¹⁶ Thus Melzar took away the portion of their meat, and the wine that they should drink; and gave them pulse.

MAR ¹⁶ Ainsi Meltsar prenait la portion de leur viande, et le vin qu'ils devaient boire, et leur donnait des légumes.

VULC ¹⁶ Porro Malasar tollebat cibaria, et vinum potus eorum : dabatque eis legumina.

WLC ¹⁶ וַיְהִ֣י הַמֶּלְצַ֗ר נֹשֵׂא֙ אֶת־ פַּתְבָּגָ֔ם וְיֵ֖ין מִשְׁתֵּיהֶ֑ם וְנֹתֵ֥ן לָהֶ֖ם זֵרְעֹנִֽים׃
