¹⁷ Then Daniel answered and said before the king, Let thy gifts be to thyself, and give thy rewards to another; yet I will read the writing unto the king, and make known to him the interpretation. ¹⁸ O thou king, the most high God gave Nebuchadnezzar thy father a kingdom, and majesty, and glory, and honour: ¹⁹ And for the majesty that he gave him, all people, nations, and languages, trembled and feared before him: whom he would he slew; and whom he would he kept alive; and whom he would he set up; and whom he would he put down. ²⁰ But when his heart was lifted up, and his mind hardened in pride, he was deposed from his kingly throne, and they took his glory from him: ²¹ And he was driven from the sons of men; and his heart was made like the beasts, and his dwelling was with the wild asses: they fed him with grass like oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven; till he knew that the most high God ruled in the kingdom of men, and that he appointeth over it whomsoever he will. ²² And thou his son, O Belshazzar, hast not humbled thine heart, though thou knewest all this; ²³ But hast lifted up thyself against the Lord of heaven; and they have brought the vessels of his house before thee, and thou, and thy lords, thy wives, and thy concubines, have drunk wine in them; and thou hast praised the gods of silver, and gold, of brass, iron, wood, and stone, which see not, nor hear, nor know: and the God in whose hand thy breath is, and whose are all thy ways, hast thou not glorified: ²⁴ Then was the part of the hand sent from him; and this writing was written. ²⁵ And this is the writing that was written, MENE, MENE, TEKEL, UPHARSIN. ²⁶ This is the interpretation of the thing: MENE; God hath numbered thy kingdom, and finished it. ²⁷ TEKEL; Thou art weighed in the balances, and art found wanting. ²⁸ PERES; Thy kingdom is divided, and given to the Medes and Persians. ²⁹ Then commanded Belshazzar, and they clothed Daniel with scarlet, and put a chain of gold about his neck, and made a proclamation concerning him, that he should be the third ruler in the kingdom.
   ³⁰ In that night was Belshazzar the king of the Chaldeans slain. ³¹ And Darius the Median took the kingdom, being about threescore and two years old.

Daniel 6

   ¹ It pleased Darius to set over the kingdom an hundred and twenty princes, which should be over the whole kingdom; ² And over these three presidents; of whom Daniel was first: that the princes might give accounts unto them, and the king should have no damage. ³ Then this Daniel was preferred above the presidents and princes, because an excellent spirit was in him; and the king thought to set him over the whole realm. ⁴ Then the presidents and princes sought to find occasion against Daniel concerning the kingdom; but they could find none occasion nor fault; forasmuch as he was faithful, neither was there any error or fault found in him. ⁵ Then said these men, We shall not find any occasion against this Daniel, except we find it against him concerning the law of his God.
   ⁶ Then these presidents and princes assembled together to the king, and said thus unto him, King Darius, live for ever. ⁷ All the presidents of the kingdom, the governors, and the princes, the counsellors, and the captains, have consulted together to establish a royal statute, and to make a firm decree, that whosoever shall ask a petition of any God or man for thirty days, save of thee, O king, he shall be cast into the den of lions. ⁸ Now, O king, establish the decree, and sign the writing, that it be not changed, according to the law of the Medes and Persians, which altereth not. ⁹ Wherefore king Darius signed the writing and the decree. ¹⁰ Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went into his house; and his windows being open in his chamber toward Jerusalem, he kneeled upon his knees three times a day, and prayed, and gave thanks before his God, as he did aforetime.
   ¹¹ Then these men assembled, and found Daniel praying and making supplication before his God. ¹² Then they came near, and spake before the king concerning the king's decree; Hast thou not signed a decree, that every man that shall ask a petition of any God or man within thirty days, save of thee, O king, shall be cast into the den of lions? The king answered and said, The thing is true, according to the law of the Medes and Persians, which altereth not. ¹³ Then answered they and said before the king, That Daniel, which is of the children of the captivity of Judah, regardeth not thee, O king, nor the decree that thou hast signed, but maketh his petition three times a day. ¹⁴ Then the king, when he heard these words, was sore displeased with himself, and set his heart on Daniel to deliver him: and he laboured till the going down of the sun to deliver him. ¹⁵ Then these men assembled unto the king, and said unto the king, Know, O king, that the law of the Medes and Persians is, That no decree nor statute which the king establisheth may be changed. ¹⁶ Then the king commanded, and they brought Daniel, and cast him into the den of lions. Now the king spake and said unto Daniel, Thy God whom thou servest continually, he will deliver thee. ¹⁷ And a stone was brought, and laid upon the mouth of the den; and the king sealed it with his own signet, and with the signet of his lords; that the purpose might not be changed concerning Daniel.
   ¹⁸ Then the king went to his palace, and passed the night fasting: neither were instruments of musick brought before him: and his sleep went from him. ¹⁹ Then the king arose very early in the morning, and went in haste unto the den of lions. ²⁰ And when he came to the den, he cried with a lamentable voice unto Daniel: and the king spake and said to Daniel, O Daniel, servant of the living God, is thy God, whom thou servest continually, able to deliver thee from the lions? ²¹ Then said Daniel unto the king, O king, live for ever. ²² My God hath sent his angel, and hath shut the lions' mouths, that they have not hurt me: forasmuch as before him innocency was found in me; and also before thee, O king, have I done no hurt. ²³ Then was the king exceedingly glad for him, and commanded that they should take Daniel up out of the den. So Daniel was taken up out of the den, and no manner of hurt was found upon him, because he believed in his God. ²⁴ And the king commanded, and they brought those men which had accused Daniel, and they cast them into the den of lions, them, their children, and their wives; and the lions had the mastery of them, and brake all their bones in pieces or ever they came at the bottom of the den.
   ²⁵ Then king Darius wrote unto all people, nations, and languages, that dwell in all the earth; Peace be multiplied unto you. ²⁶ I make a decree, That in every dominion of my kingdom men tremble and fear before the God of Daniel: for he is the living God, and stedfast for ever, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed, and his dominion shall be even unto the end. ²⁷ He delivereth and rescueth, and he worketh signs and wonders in heaven and in earth, who hath delivered Daniel from the power of the lions. ²⁸ So this Daniel prospered in the reign of Darius, and in the reign of Cyrus the Persian.

Daniel 7

   ¹ In the first year of Belshazzar king of Babylon Daniel had a dream and visions of his head upon his bed: then he wrote the dream, and told the sum of the matters. ² Daniel spake and said, I saw in my vision by night, and, behold, the four winds of the heaven strove upon the great sea. ³ And four great beasts came up from the sea, diverse one from another. ⁴ The first was like a lion, and had eagle's wings: I beheld till the wings thereof were plucked, and it was lifted up from the earth, and made stand upon the feet as a man, and a man's heart was given to it. ⁵ And behold another beast, a second, like to a bear, and it raised up itself on one side, and it had three ribs in the mouth of it between the teeth of it: and they said thus unto it, Arise, devour much flesh. ⁶ After this I beheld, and lo another, like a leopard, which had upon the back of it four wings of a fowl; the beast had also four heads; and dominion was given to it. ⁷ After this I saw in the night visions, and behold a fourth beast, dreadful and terrible, and strong exceedingly; and it had great iron teeth: it devoured and brake in pieces, and stamped the residue with the feet of it: and it was diverse from all the beasts that were before it; and it had ten horns. ⁸ I considered the horns, and, behold, there came up among them another little horn, before whom there were three of the first horns plucked up by the roots: and, behold, in this horn were eyes like the eyes of man, and a mouth speaking great things.
   ⁹ I beheld till the thrones were cast down, and the Ancient of days did sit, whose garment was white as snow, and the hair of his head like the pure wool: his throne was like the fiery flame, and his wheels as burning fire. ¹⁰ A fiery stream issued and came forth from before him: thousand thousands ministered unto him, and ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him: the judgment was set, and the books were opened. ¹¹ I beheld then because of the voice of the great words which the horn spake: I beheld even till the beast was slain, and his body destroyed, and given to the burning flame. ¹² As concerning the rest of the beasts, they had their dominion taken away: yet their lives were prolonged for a season and time. ¹³ I saw in the night visions, and, behold, one like the Son of man came with the clouds of heaven, and came to the Ancient of days, and they brought him near before him. ¹⁴ And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should serve him: his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed.

¹⁷ Daniel répondit devant le roi: «Garde tes dons pour toi et accorde tes récompenses à un autre! Je lirai néanmoins l'inscription au roi et je lui en ferai connaître l'explication. ¹⁸ Roi, le Dieu très-haut avait donné à ton prédécesseur Nebucadnetsar la royauté, la grandeur, la gloire et la majesté. ¹⁹ A cause de la grandeur qu'il lui avait donnée, tous les peuples, les nations, les hommes de toute langue tremblaient et avaient peur devant lui. Le roi faisait mourir ceux qu'il voulait et laissait la vie à ceux qu'il voulait. Il donnait une position élevée à ceux qu'il voulait et abaissait ceux qu'il voulait. ²⁰ Cependant, lorsque son cœur s'est rempli d'orgueil et que son esprit s'est obstiné jusqu'à l'arrogance, il a été précipité de son trône royal et dépouillé de sa gloire. ²¹ Il a été chassé du milieu des hommes, son cœur est devenu semblable à celui des bêtes et il a habité avec les ânes sauvages. On lui a donné de l'herbe à manger, comme aux bœufs, et son corps a été trempé de la rosée du ciel, et ce jusqu'à ce qu'il reconnaisse que le Dieu très-haut domine sur toute royauté humaine et la donne à qui il le désire.
²² »Et toi, Belshatsar, son successeur, tu n'as pas humilié ton cœur, alors que tu savais tout cela. ²³ C'est contre le Seigneur du ciel que tu t'es dressé. Tu as fait apporter devant toi les coupes de son temple et vous les avez utilisées pour boire du vin, toi et tes hauts fonctionnaires, ainsi que tes femmes et tes concubines. Tu as célébré les dieux en argent, en or, en bronze, en fer, en bois et en pierre, qui ne voient pas, qui n'entendent pas et qui ne savent rien, et tu n'as pas donné gloire au Dieu qui tient dans sa main ton souffle et tous tes chemins. ²⁴ C'est pourquoi il a envoyé cette partie de main qui a tracé cette inscription.
²⁵ »Voici l'inscription qui a été tracée: ‘Compté, compté, pesé et divisé.' ²⁶ Et voici l'explication de ces mots. Compté: Dieu a fait les comptes de ton règne et y a mis fin. ²⁷ Pesé: tu as été pesé dans la balance et tu as été trouvé léger. ²⁸ Divisé: ton royaume sera divisé et donné aux Mèdes et aux Perses.»
²⁹ Aussitôt Belshatsar ordonna qu'on habille Daniel de pourpre, qu'on lui mette au cou un collier en or et qu'on proclame qu'il aurait la troisième place dans le gouvernement du royaume.
³⁰ La même nuit, Belshatsar, le roi des Babyloniens, fut tué.

Daniel 6

¹ Darius le Mède s'empara du royaume à l'âge de 62 ans.

Daniel dans la fosse aux lions

² Darius trouva bon d'établir sur le royaume 120 administrateurs qui devaient être répartis dans tout le royaume. ³ Il mit à leur tête trois responsables, parmi lesquels figurait Daniel, afin que les administrateurs leur rendent des comptes et que le roi ne subisse aucun dommage. ⁴ Daniel se montrait supérieur aux autres responsables et aux administrateurs parce qu'il y avait en lui un esprit extraordinaire. Le roi pensait à lui confier la responsabilité de tout le royaume. ⁵ Les responsables et les administrateurs cherchèrent alors une occasion d'accuser Daniel en rapport avec les affaires du royaume. Cependant, ils ne purent trouver aucune occasion de le faire, aucune faute de sa part, parce qu'il était fidèle et qu'on ne trouvait chez lui ni négligence ni faute.
⁶ Ces hommes dirent: «Nous ne trouverons aucun motif d'accusation contre ce Daniel, à moins d'en trouver un dans la loi de son Dieu.» ⁷ Puis ces responsables et ces administrateurs se précipitèrent vers le roi et lui dirent: «Roi Darius, puisses-tu vivre toujours! ⁸ Tous les responsables du royaume, les intendants, les administrateurs, les conseillers et les gouverneurs sont d'avis que le roi proclame un édit comportant une interdiction sévère: toute personne qui, dans l'espace de 30 jours, adressera des prières à un autre, dieu ou homme, que toi, roi, sera jetée dans la fosse aux lions. ⁹ Maintenant, roi, confirme l'interdiction et écris le décret afin qu'il ne puisse pas être modifié, comme la loi des Mèdes et des Perses qui est irrévocable.» ¹⁰ Là-dessus le roi Darius écrivit le décret d'interdiction.
¹¹ Lorsque Daniel fut au courant de la rédaction de ce décret, il se retira dans sa maison, où les fenêtres de la chambre à l'étage étaient ouvertes dans la direction de Jérusalem. Trois fois par jour il se mettait à genoux, priait et exprimait sa reconnaissance à son Dieu, tout comme il le faisait avant. ¹² Alors ces hommes se précipitèrent et trouvèrent Daniel en train de prier et de supplier son Dieu. ¹³ Puis ils se présentèrent devant le roi et lui parlèrent de l'interdiction royale: «N'as-tu pas écrit une interdiction d'après laquelle toute personne qui, dans l'espace de 30 jours, adresserait des prières à un autre, dieu ou homme, que toi, roi, serait jetée dans la fosse aux lions?» Le roi répondit: «Cet ordre est aussi sûr que la loi des Mèdes et des Perses, qui est irrévocable.» ¹⁴ Ils prirent de nouveau la parole et dirent au roi: «Daniel, l'un des exilés de Juda, n'a tenu aucun compte de toi, roi, ni de l'interdiction que tu as écrite, et il fait sa prière trois fois par jour.»
¹⁵ Le roi fut très attristé quand il entendit cela. Il prit à cœur de délivrer Daniel et jusqu'au coucher du soleil il s'efforça de le sauver. ¹⁶ Mais ces hommes insistèrent auprès du roi et lui dirent: «Sache, roi, que d'après la loi des Mèdes et des Perses, aucune interdiction ni aucun décret confirmé par le roi ne peut être modifié.» ¹⁷ Alors le roi donna l'ordre de faire venir Daniel et de le jeter dans la fosse aux lions. Le roi dit à Daniel: «Que ton Dieu, que tu sers avec persévérance, veuille te délivrer!» ¹⁸ On apporta une pierre et on la plaça sur l'ouverture de la fosse. Le roi y apposa l'empreinte de son anneau et de l'anneau de ses hauts fonctionnaires afin que rien ne puisse être modifié pour Daniel.
¹⁹ Le roi se rendit ensuite dans son palais. Il passa la nuit sans manger, sans faire venir de danseuse devant lui et sans parvenir à trouver le sommeil. ²⁰ Le roi se leva tôt le matin, avec l'aurore, et se précipita à la fosse aux lions. ²¹ En s'approchant de la fosse, il appela Daniel d'une voix triste et lui demanda: «Daniel, serviteur du Dieu vivant, ton Dieu que tu sers avec persévérance a-t-il pu te délivrer des lions?» ²² Daniel répondit au roi: «Roi, puisses-tu vivre toujours! ²³ Mon Dieu a envoyé son ange et fermé la gueule des lions. Ils ne m'ont fait aucun mal, parce que j'ai été trouvé innocent devant lui. Devant toi non plus, roi, je n'avais rien fait de mal.» ²⁴ Le roi fut alors tout heureux et ordonna de faire sortir Daniel de la fosse. Daniel fut retiré de la fosse. On ne trouva aucune blessure sur lui, parce qu'il avait eu confiance en son Dieu. ²⁵ Le roi ordonna que les accusateurs de Daniel soient amenés et jetés dans la fosse aux lions avec leurs enfants et leurs femmes. Avant qu'ils ne soient parvenus au fond de la fosse, les lions les attrapèrent et brisèrent tous leurs os.
²⁶ Après cela, le roi Darius écrivit à tous les peuples, à toutes les nations, aux hommes de toute langue qui habitaient tout l'Empire: «Que la paix vous soit donnée en abondance! ²⁷ J'ordonne que, dans toute l'étendue de mon royaume, on ait de la crainte et un profond respect pour le Dieu de Daniel. En effet, il est le Dieu vivant et il subsiste éternellement. Son royaume ne sera jamais détruit et sa domination durera jusqu'à la fin. ²⁸ C'est lui qui délivre et qui sauve, qui accomplit des signes et des miracles dans le ciel et sur la terre. C'est lui qui a délivré Daniel de la griffe des lions.»
²⁹ Daniel prospéra sous le règne de Darius, c'est-à-dire de Cyrus le Perse.

Visions de Daniel (7.1–12.13)

Vision des quatre bêtes

¹ La première année du règne de Belshatsar sur Babylone, Daniel fit un rêve. Des visions se présentèrent à son esprit pendant qu'il était sur son lit. Ensuite il mit ce rêve par écrit et en raconta les points principaux.
² Daniel commença son récit: «Je regardais pendant ma vision nocturne, et voici que les quatre vents du ciel ont fait irruption sur la grande mer. ³ Quatre bêtes énormes sont sorties de la mer, différentes les unes des autres. ⁴ La première ressemblait à un lion et avait des ailes d'aigle. Pendant que je regardais, ses ailes ont été arrachées. Elle a été soulevée de terre et mise debout sur ses pattes, comme un homme, et un cœur d'homme lui a été donné. ⁵ Puis est apparue une deuxième bête, qui ressemblait à un ours. Elle se dressait sur un côté; elle avait trois côtes dans la gueule, entre les dents. On lui disait: ‘Lève-toi, mange beaucoup de viande!' ⁶ Après cela, j'ai vu une autre bête, qui ressemblait à un léopard. Elle avait quatre ailes sur le dos, comme celles d'un oiseau. Cette bête avait quatre têtes et la domination lui a été donnée. ⁷ Après cela, j'ai vu dans mes visions nocturnes une quatrième bête, redoutable, terrible et extraordinairement puissante. Elle avait de grandes dents en fer. Elle mangeait, brisait et piétinait ce qui restait. Elle était différente de toutes les bêtes précédentes et avait dix cornes. ⁸ Je regardais les cornes et j'ai vu une autre petite corne sortir du milieu d'elles. Trois des premières cornes ont été arrachées devant elle. Sur cette corne, il y avait des yeux pareils à ceux d'un homme et une bouche qui parlait avec arrogance.
⁹ »Pendant que je regardais, on a placé des trônes et l'Ancien des jours s'est assis. Son vêtement était aussi blanc que la neige et les cheveux de sa tête pareils à de la laine pure. Son trône était de flammes et ses roues étaient un feu dévorant. ¹⁰ Un fleuve de feu coulait et sortait de devant lui. Des dizaines de milliers le servaient et des centaines de millions se tenaient debout devant lui. Les juges se sont assis et des livres ont été ouverts. ¹¹ J'ai alors regardé, à cause des paroles arrogantes que prononçait la corne. Pendant que je regardais, la bête a été tuée. Son corps a été détruit et livré au feu pour être brûlé. ¹² Les autres bêtes ont été dépouillées de leur pouvoir, mais une prolongation de vie leur a été accordée pour un certain temps.
¹³ »Pendant que je regardais dans mes visions nocturnes, *quelqu'un qui ressemblait à un fils de l'homme est venu avec les nuées du ciel. Il s'est avancé vers l'Ancien des jours et on l'a fait approcher de lui. ¹⁴ On lui a donné la domination, la gloire et le règne, et tous les peuples, les nations et les hommes de toute langue l'ont servi. Sa domination est une domination éternelle qui ne cessera pas et son royaume ne sera jamais détruit.

   ¹ Placuit Dario, et constituit super regnum satrapas centum viginti ut essent in toto regno suo.

   ¹³ Tunc respondentes dixerunt coram rege : Daniel de filiis captivitatis Juda, non curavit de lege tua, et de edicto quod constituisti : sed tribus temporibus per diem orat obsecratione sua.
   ¹⁴ Quod verbum cum audisset rex, satis contristatus est : et pro Daniele posuit cor ut liberaret eum, et usque ad occasum solis laborabat ut erueret illum.
   ¹⁵ Viri autem illi, intelligentes regem, dixerunt ei : Scito, rex, quia lex Medorum atque Persarum est ut omne decretum, quod constituerit rex, non liceat immutari.
   ¹⁶ Tunc rex præcepit, et adduxerunt Danielem, et miserunt eum in lacum leonum. Dixitque rex Danieli : Deus tuus, quem colis semper, ipse liberabit te.
   ¹⁷ Allatusque est lapis unus, et positus est super os laci : quem obsignavit rex annulo suo, et annulo optimatum suorum, ne quid fieret contra Danielem.
   ¹⁸ Et abiit rex in domum suam, et dormivit incœnatus, cibique non sunt allati coram eo, insuper et somnus recessit ab eo.
   ¹⁹ Tunc rex primo diluculo consurgens, festinus ad lacum leonum perrexit :
   ²⁰ appropinquansque lacui, Danielem voce lacrimabili inclamavit, et affatus est eum : Daniel serve Dei viventis, Deus tuus, cui tu servis semper, putasne valuit te liberare a leonibus ?
   ²¹ Et Daniel regi respondens ait : Rex, in æternum vive !
   ²² Deus meus misit angelum suum, et conclusit ora leonum, et non nocuerunt mihi : quia coram eo justitia inventa est in me : sed et coram te, rex, delictum non feci.
   ²³ Tunc vehementer rex gavisus est super eo, et Danielem præcepit educi de lacu : eductusque est Daniel de lacu, et nulla læsio inventa est in eo, quia credidit Deo suo.
   ²⁴ Jubente autem rege, adducti sunt viri illi, qui accusaverant Danielem : et in lacum leonum missi sunt, ipsi, et filii, et uxores eorum : et non pervenerunt usque ad pavimentum laci, donec arriperent eos leones, et omnia ossa eorum comminuerunt.
   ²⁵ Tunc Darius rex scripsit universis populis, tribubus, et linguis habitantibus in universa terra : Pax vobis multiplicetur.
   ²⁶ A me constitutum est decretum, ut in universo imperio et regno meo, tremiscant et paveant Deum Danielis : ipse est enim Deus vivens, et æternus in sæcula, et regnum ejus non dissipabitur, et potestas ejus usque in æternum.
   ²⁷ Ipse liberator atque salvator, faciens signa et mirabilia in cælo et in terra : qui liberavit Danielem de lacu leonum.
   ²⁸ Porro Daniel perseveravit usque ad regnum Darii, regnumque Cyri Persæ.

Daniel 7

   ¹ Anno primo Baltassar regis Babylonis, Daniel somnium vidit : visio autem capitis ejus in cubili suo : et somnium scribens, brevi sermone comprehendit : summatimque perstringens, ait :
   ² Videbam in visione mea nocte : et ecce quatuor venti cæli pugnabant in mari magno.
   ³ Et quatuor bestiæ grandes ascendebant de mari diversæ inter se.
   ⁴ Prima quasi leæna, et alas habebat aquilæ : aspiciebam donec evulsæ sunt alæ ejus, et sublata est de terra, et super pedes quasi homo stetit ; et cor hominis datum est ei.
   ⁵ Et ecce bestia alia similis urso in parte stetit : et tres ordines erant in ore ejus, et in dentibus ejus, et sic dicebant ei : Surge, comede carnes plurimas.
   ⁶ Post hæc aspiciebam, et ecce alia quasi pardus, et alas habebat quasi avis, quatuor super se : et quatuor capita erant in bestia, et potestas data est ei.
   ⁷ Post hæc aspiciebam in visione noctis, et ecce bestia quarta terribilis atque mirabilis, et fortis nimis : dentes ferreos habebat magnos, comedens atque comminuens, et reliqua pedibus suis conculcans : dissimilis autem erat ceteris bestiis quas videram ante eam, et habebat cornua decem.
   ⁸ Considerabam cornua, et ecce cornu aliud parvulum ortum est de medio eorum : et tria de cornibus primis evulsa sunt a facie ejus : et ecce oculi, quasi oculi hominis erant in cornu isto, et os loquens ingentia.
   ⁹ Aspiciebam donec throni positi sunt, et antiquus dierum sedit. Vestimentum ejus candidum quasi nix, et capilli capitis ejus quasi lana munda : thronus ejus flammæ ignis : rotæ ejus ignis accensus.
   ¹⁰ Fluvius igneus rapidusque egrediebatur a facie ejus. Millia millium ministrabant ei, et decies millies centena millia assistebant ei : judicium sedit, et libri aperti sunt.
   ¹¹ Aspiciebam propter vocem sermonum grandium, quos cornu illud loquebatur : et vidi quoniam interfecta esset bestia, et perisset corpus ejus, et traditum esset ad comburendum igni :
   ¹² aliarum quoque bestiarum ablata esset potestas, et tempora vitæ constituta essent eis usque ad tempus et tempus.
   ¹³ Aspiciebam ergo in visione noctis, et ecce cum nubibus cæli quasi filius hominis veniebat, et usque ad antiquum dierum pervenit : et in conspectu ejus obtulerunt eum.
   ¹⁴ Et dedit ei potestatem, et honorem, et regnum : et omnes populi, tribus, et linguæ ipsi servient : potestas ejus, potestas æterna, quæ non auferetur : et regnum ejus, quod non corrumpetur.
