KJV ¹⁷ Then Daniel answered and said before the king, Let thy gifts be to thyself, and give thy rewards to another; yet I will read the writing unto the king, and make known to him the interpretation.

KJV ¹⁸ O thou king, the most high God gave Nebuchadnezzar thy father a kingdom, and majesty, and glory, and honour:

VULC ¹⁸ O rex, Deus altissimus regnum et magnificentiam, gloriam et honorem dedit Nabuchodonosor patri tuo.

KJV ¹⁹ And for the majesty that he gave him, all people, nations, and languages, trembled and feared before him: whom he would he slew; and whom he would he kept alive; and whom he would he set up; and whom he would he put down.

S21 ¹⁹ A cause de la grandeur qu'il lui avait donnée, tous les peuples, les nations, les hommes de toute langue tremblaient et avaient peur devant lui. Le roi faisait mourir ceux qu'il voulait et laissait la vie à ceux qu'il voulait. Il donnait une position élevée à ceux qu'il voulait et abaissait ceux qu'il voulait.

VULC ¹⁹ Et propter magnificentiam, quam dederat ei, universi populi, tribus, et linguæ tremebant, et metuebant eum : quos volebat, interficiebat : et quos volebat, percutiebat : et quos volebat, exaltabat : et quos volebat, humiliabat.

KJV ²⁰ But when his heart was lifted up, and his mind hardened in pride, he was deposed from his kingly throne, and they took his glory from him:

KJV ²¹ And he was driven from the sons of men; and his heart was made like the beasts, and his dwelling was with the wild asses: they fed him with grass like oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven; till he knew that the most high God ruled in the kingdom of men, and that he appointeth over it whomsoever he will.

S21 ²¹ Il a été chassé du milieu des hommes, son cœur est devenu semblable à celui des bêtes et il a habité avec les ânes sauvages. KJV ²³ But hast lifted up thyself against the Lord of heaven; and they have brought the vessels of his house before thee, and thou, and thy lords, thy wives, and thy concubines, have drunk wine in them; and thou hast praised the gods of silver, and gold, of brass, iron, wood, and stone, which see not, nor hear, nor know: and the God in whose hand thy breath is, and whose are all thy ways, hast thou not glorified:

S21 ²³ C'est contre le Seigneur du ciel que tu t'es dressé. Tu as fait apporter devant toi les coupes de son temple et vous les avez utilisées pour boire du vin, toi et tes hauts fonctionnaires, ainsi que tes femmes et tes concubines. Tu as célébré les dieux en argent, en or, en bronze, en fer, en bois et en pierre, qui ne voient pas, qui n'entendent pas et qui ne savent rien, et tu n'as pas donné gloire au Dieu qui tient dans sa main ton souffle et tous tes chemins.

KJV ²⁴ Then was the part of the hand sent from him; and this writing was written.

KJV ²⁹ Then commanded Belshazzar, and they clothed Daniel with scarlet, and put a chain of gold about his neck, and made a proclamation concerning him, that he should be the third ruler in the kingdom.

KJV ² And over these three presidents; of whom Daniel was first: that the princes might give accounts unto them, and the king should have no damage.

KJV ³ Then this Daniel was preferred above the presidents and princes, because an excellent spirit was in him; and the king thought to set him over the whole realm.

KJV ⁴ Then the presidents and princes sought to find occasion against Daniel concerning the kingdom; but they could find none occasion nor fault; forasmuch as he was faithful, neither was there any error or fault found in him.

S21 ⁴ Daniel se montrait supérieur aux autres responsables et aux administrateurs parce qu'il y avait en lui un esprit extraordinaire. Le roi pensait à lui confier la responsabilité de tout le royaume.

VULC ⁴ Porro rex cogitabat constituere eum super omne regnum : unde principes, et satrapæ quærebant occasionem ut invenirent Danieli ex latere regis : nullamque causam, et suspicionem reperire potuerunt, eo quod fidelis esset, et omnis culpa, et suspicio non inveniretur in eo.

KJV ⁵ Then said these men, We shall not find any occasion against this Daniel, except we find it against him concerning the law of his God.

S21 ⁵ Les responsables et les administrateurs cherchèrent alors une occasion d'accuser Daniel en rapport avec les affaires du royaume. Cependant, ils ne purent trouver aucune occasion de le faire, aucune faute de sa part, parce qu'il était fidèle et qu'on ne trouvait chez lui ni négligence ni faute.

VULC ⁵ Dixerunt ergo viri illi : Non inveniemus Danieli huic aliquam occasionem, nisi forte in lege Dei sui.

KJV ⁶ Then these presidents and princes assembled together to the king, and said thus unto him, King Darius, live for ever.

S21 ⁶ Ces hommes dirent: «Nous ne trouverons aucun motif d'accusation contre ce Daniel, à moins d'en trouver un dans la loi de son Dieu.»

KJV ⁷ All the presidents of the kingdom, the governors, and the princes, the counsellors, and the captains, have consulted together to establish a royal statute, and to make a firm decree, that whosoever shall ask a petition of any God or man for thirty days, save of thee, O king, he shall be cast into the den of lions.

S21 ⁷ Puis ces responsables et ces administrateurs se précipitèrent vers le roi et lui dirent: «Roi Darius, puisses-tu vivre toujours!

VULC ⁷ consilium inierunt omnes principes regni tui, magistratus, et satrapæ, senatores, et judices, ut decretum imperatorium exeat, et edictum : ut omnis, qui petierit aliquam petitionem a quocumque deo et homine usque ad triginta dies, nisi a te, rex, mittatur in lacum leonum.

KJV ⁸ Now, O king, establish the decree, and sign the writing, that it be not changed, according to the law of the Medes and Persians, which altereth not.

S21 ⁸ Tous les responsables du royaume, les intendants, les administrateurs, les conseillers et les gouverneurs sont d'avis que le roi proclame un édit comportant une interdiction sévère: toute personne qui, dans l'espace de 30 jours, adressera des prières à un autre, dieu ou homme, que toi, roi, sera jetée dans la fosse aux lions.

VULC ⁸ Nunc itaque rex, confirma sententiam, et scribe decretum : ut non immutetur quod statutum est a Medis et Persis, nec prævaricari cuiquam liceat.

KJV ⁹ Wherefore king Darius signed the writing and the decree.

S21 ⁹ Maintenant, roi, confirme l'interdiction et écris le décret afin qu'il ne puisse pas être modifié, comme la loi des Mèdes et des Perses qui est irrévocable.»

KJV ¹⁰ Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went into his house; and his windows being open in his chamber toward Jerusalem, he kneeled upon his knees three times a day, and prayed, and gave thanks before his God, as he did aforetime.

KJV ¹¹ Then these men assembled, and found Daniel praying and making supplication before his God.

KJV ¹² Then they came near, and spake before the king concerning the king's decree; Hast thou not signed a decree, that every man that shall ask a petition of any God or man within thirty days, save of thee, O king, shall be cast into the den of lions? The king answered and said, The thing is true, according to the law of the Medes and Persians, which altereth not.

S21 ¹² Alors ces hommes se précipitèrent et trouvèrent Daniel en train de prier et de supplier son Dieu.

VULC ¹² Et accedentes locuti sunt regi super edicto : Rex, numquid non constituisti ut omnis homo qui rogaret quemquam de diis et hominibus usque ad dies triginta, nisi te, rex, mitteretur in lacum leonum ? Ad quos respondens rex, ait : Verus est sermo juxta decretum Medorum atque Persarum, quod prævaricari non licet.

KJV ¹³ Then answered they and said before the king, That Daniel, which is of the children of the captivity of Judah, regardeth not thee, O king, nor the decree that thou hast signed, but maketh his petition three times a day.

S21 ¹³ Puis ils se présentèrent devant le roi et lui parlèrent de l'interdiction royale: «N'as-tu pas écrit une interdiction d'après laquelle toute personne qui, dans l'espace de 30 jours, adresserait des prières à un autre, dieu ou homme, que toi, roi, serait jetée dans la fosse aux lions?» Le roi répondit: «Cet ordre est aussi sûr que la loi des Mèdes et des Perses, qui est irrévocable.»

VULC ¹³ Tunc respondentes dixerunt coram rege : Daniel de filiis captivitatis Juda, non curavit de lege tua, et de edicto quod constituisti : sed tribus temporibus per diem orat obsecratione sua.

KJV ¹⁴ Then the king, when he heard these words, was sore displeased with himself, and set his heart on Daniel to deliver him: and he laboured till the going down of the sun to deliver him.

S21 ¹⁴ Ils prirent de nouveau la parole et dirent au roi: «Daniel, l'un des exilés de Juda, n'a tenu aucun compte de toi, roi, ni de l'interdiction que tu as écrite, et il fait sa prière trois fois par jour.»

VULC ¹⁴ Quod verbum cum audisset rex, satis contristatus est : et pro Daniele posuit cor ut liberaret eum, et usque ad occasum solis laborabat ut erueret illum.

KJV ¹⁵ Then these men assembled unto the king, and said unto the king, Know, O king, that the law of the Medes and Persians is, That no decree nor statute which the king establisheth may be changed.

S21 ¹⁵ Le roi fut très attristé quand il entendit cela. Il prit à cœur de délivrer Daniel et jusqu'au coucher du soleil il s'efforça de le sauver.

VULC ¹⁵ Viri autem illi, intelligentes regem, dixerunt ei : Scito, rex, quia lex Medorum atque Persarum est ut omne decretum, quod constituerit rex, non liceat immutari.

KJV ¹⁶ Then the king commanded, and they brought Daniel, and cast him into the den of lions. Now the king spake and said unto Daniel, Thy God whom thou servest continually, he will deliver thee.

S21 ¹⁶ Mais ces hommes insistèrent auprès du roi et lui dirent: «Sache, roi, que d'après la loi des Mèdes et des Perses, aucune interdiction ni aucun décret confirmé par le roi ne peut être modifié.»

VULC ¹⁶ Tunc rex præcepit, et adduxerunt Danielem, et miserunt eum in lacum leonum. Dixitque rex Danieli : Deus tuus, quem colis semper, ipse liberabit te.

KJV ¹⁷ And a stone was brought, and laid upon the mouth of the den; and the king sealed it with his own signet, and with the signet of his lords; that the purpose might not be changed concerning Daniel.

S21 ¹⁷ Alors le roi donna l'ordre de faire venir Daniel et de le jeter dans la fosse aux lions. Le roi dit à Daniel: «Que ton Dieu, que tu sers avec persévérance, veuille te délivrer!»

VULC ¹⁷ Allatusque est lapis unus, et positus est super os laci : quem obsignavit rex annulo suo, et annulo optimatum suorum, ne quid fieret contra Danielem.

KJV ¹⁸ Then the king went to his palace, and passed the night fasting: neither were instruments of musick brought before him: and his sleep went from him.

KJV ¹⁹ Then the king arose very early in the morning, and went in haste unto the den of lions.

KJV ²⁰ And when he came to the den, he cried with a lamentable voice unto Daniel: and the king spake and said to Daniel, O Daniel, servant of the living God, is thy God, whom thou servest continually, able to deliver thee from the lions?

VULC ²⁰ appropinquansque lacui, Danielem voce lacrimabili inclamavit, et affatus est eum : Daniel serve Dei viventis, Deus tuus, cui tu servis semper, putasne valuit te liberare a leonibus ?

KJV ²¹ Then said Daniel unto the king, O king, live for ever.

S21 ²¹ En s'approchant de la fosse, il appela Daniel d'une voix triste et lui demanda: «Daniel, serviteur du Dieu vivant, ton Dieu que tu sers avec persévérance a-t-il pu te délivrer des lions?»

VULC ²¹ Et Daniel regi respondens ait : Rex, in æternum vive !

KJV ²² My God hath sent his angel, and hath shut the lions' mouths, that they have not hurt me: forasmuch as before him innocency was found in me; and also before thee, O king, have I done no hurt.

S21 ²² Daniel répondit au roi: «Roi, puisses-tu vivre toujours!

VULC ²² Deus meus misit angelum suum, et conclusit ora leonum, et non nocuerunt mihi : quia coram eo justitia inventa est in me : sed et coram te, rex, delictum non feci.

KJV ²³ Then was the king exceedingly glad for him, and commanded that they should take Daniel up out of the den. So Daniel was taken up out of the den, and no manner of hurt was found upon him, because he believed in his God.

S21 ²³ Mon Dieu a envoyé son ange et fermé la gueule des lions. Ils ne m'ont fait aucun mal, parce que j'ai été trouvé innocent devant lui. Devant toi non plus, roi, je n'avais rien fait de mal.»

VULC ²³ Tunc vehementer rex gavisus est super eo, et Danielem præcepit educi de lacu : eductusque est Daniel de lacu, et nulla læsio inventa est in eo, quia credidit Deo suo.

KJV ²⁴ And the king commanded, and they brought those men which had accused Daniel, and they cast them into the den of lions, them, their children, and their wives; and the lions had the mastery of them, and brake all their bones in pieces or ever they came at the bottom of the den.

S21 ²⁴ Le roi fut alors tout heureux et ordonna de faire sortir Daniel de la fosse. Daniel fut retiré de la fosse. On ne trouva aucune blessure sur lui, parce qu'il avait eu confiance en son Dieu.

VULC ²⁴ Jubente autem rege, adducti sunt viri illi, qui accusaverant Danielem : et in lacum leonum missi sunt, ipsi, et filii, et uxores eorum : et non pervenerunt usque ad pavimentum laci, donec arriperent eos leones, et omnia ossa eorum comminuerunt.

KJV ²⁵ Then king Darius wrote unto all people, nations, and languages, that dwell in all the earth; Peace be multiplied unto you.

S21 ²⁵ Le roi ordonna que les accusateurs de Daniel soient amenés et jetés dans la fosse aux lions avec leurs enfants et leurs femmes. Avant qu'ils ne soient parvenus au fond de la fosse, les lions les attrapèrent et brisèrent tous leurs os.

KJV ²⁶ I make a decree, That in every dominion of my kingdom men tremble and fear before the God of Daniel: for he is the living God, and stedfast for ever, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed, and his dominion shall be even unto the end.

S21 ²⁶ Après cela, le roi Darius écrivit à tous les peuples, à toutes les nations, aux hommes de toute langue qui habitaient tout l'Empire: «Que la paix vous soit donnée en abondance!

VULC ²⁶ A me constitutum est decretum, ut in universo imperio et regno meo, tremiscant et paveant Deum Danielis : ipse est enim Deus vivens, et æternus in sæcula, et regnum ejus non dissipabitur, et potestas ejus usque in æternum.

KJV ²⁷ He delivereth and rescueth, and he worketh signs and wonders in heaven and in earth, who hath delivered Daniel from the power of the lions.

S21 ²⁷ J'ordonne que, dans toute l'étendue de mon royaume, on ait de la crainte et un profond respect pour le Dieu de Daniel. En effet, il est le Dieu vivant et il subsiste éternellement. Son royaume ne sera jamais détruit et sa domination durera jusqu'à la fin.

KJV ²⁸ So this Daniel prospered in the reign of Darius, and in the reign of Cyrus the Persian.

KJV ¹ In the first year of Belshazzar king of Babylon Daniel had a dream and visions of his head upon his bed: then he wrote the dream, and told the sum of the matters.

KJV ⁴ The first was like a lion, and had eagle's wings: I beheld till the wings thereof were plucked, and it was lifted up from the earth, and made stand upon the feet as a man, and a man's heart was given to it.

KJV ⁵ And behold another beast, a second, like to a bear, and it raised up itself on one side, and it had three ribs in the mouth of it between the teeth of it: and they said thus unto it, Arise, devour much flesh.

S21 ⁵ Puis est apparue une deuxième bête, qui ressemblait à un ours. Elle se dressait sur un côté; elle avait trois côtes dans la gueule, entre les dents. On lui disait: ‘Lève-toi, mange beaucoup de viande!'

VULC ⁵ Et ecce bestia alia similis urso in parte stetit : et tres ordines erant in ore ejus, et in dentibus ejus, et sic dicebant ei : Surge, comede carnes plurimas.

KJV ⁶ After this I beheld, and lo another, like a leopard, which had upon the back of it four wings of a fowl; the beast had also four heads; and dominion was given to it.

S21 ⁶ Après cela, j'ai vu une autre bête, qui ressemblait à un léopard. Elle avait quatre ailes sur le dos, comme celles d'un oiseau. Cette bête avait quatre têtes et la domination lui a été donnée.

VULC ⁶ Post hæc aspiciebam, et ecce alia quasi pardus, et alas habebat quasi avis, quatuor super se : et quatuor capita erant in bestia, et potestas data est ei.

KJV ⁷ After this I saw in the night visions, and behold a fourth beast, dreadful and terrible, and strong exceedingly; and it had great iron teeth: it devoured and brake in pieces, and stamped the residue with the feet of it: and it was diverse from all the beasts that were before it; and it had ten horns.

S21 ⁷ Après cela, j'ai vu dans mes visions nocturnes une quatrième bête, redoutable, terrible et extraordinairement puissante. Elle avait de grandes dents en fer. Elle mangeait, brisait et piétinait ce qui restait. Elle était différente de toutes les bêtes précédentes et avait dix cornes.

VULC ⁷ Post hæc aspiciebam in visione noctis, et ecce bestia quarta terribilis atque mirabilis, et fortis nimis : dentes ferreos habebat magnos, comedens atque comminuens, et reliqua pedibus suis conculcans : dissimilis autem erat ceteris bestiis quas videram ante eam, et habebat cornua decem.

KJV ⁸ I considered the horns, and, behold, there came up among them another little horn, before whom there were three of the first horns plucked up by the roots: and, behold, in this horn were eyes like the eyes of man, and a mouth speaking great things.

S21 ⁸ Je regardais les cornes et j'ai vu une autre petite corne sortir du milieu d'elles. Trois des premières cornes ont été arrachées devant elle. Sur cette corne, il y avait des yeux pareils à ceux d'un homme et une bouche qui parlait avec arrogance.

VULC ⁸ Considerabam cornua, et ecce cornu aliud parvulum ortum est de medio eorum : et tria de cornibus primis evulsa sunt a facie ejus : et ecce oculi, quasi oculi hominis erant in cornu isto, et os loquens ingentia.

KJV ⁹ I beheld till the thrones were cast down, and the Ancient of days did sit, whose garment was white as snow, and the hair of his head like the pure wool: his throne was like the fiery flame, and his wheels as burning fire.

S21 ⁹ »Pendant que je regardais, on a placé des trônes et l'Ancien des jours s'est assis. Son vêtement était aussi blanc que la neige et les cheveux de sa tête pareils à de la laine pure. Son trône était de flammes et ses roues étaient un feu dévorant.

VULC ⁹ Aspiciebam donec throni positi sunt, et antiquus dierum sedit. Vestimentum ejus candidum quasi nix, et capilli capitis ejus quasi lana munda : thronus ejus flammæ ignis : rotæ ejus ignis accensus.

KJV ¹⁰ A fiery stream issued and came forth from before him: thousand thousands ministered unto him, and ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him: the judgment was set, and the books were opened.

S21 ¹⁰ Un fleuve de feu coulait et sortait de devant lui. Des dizaines de milliers le servaient et des centaines de millions se tenaient debout devant lui. Les juges se sont assis et des livres ont été ouverts.

KJV ¹¹ I beheld then because of the voice of the great words which the horn spake: I beheld even till the beast was slain, and his body destroyed, and given to the burning flame.

S21 ¹¹ J'ai alors regardé, à cause des paroles arrogantes que prononçait la corne. Pendant que je regardais, la bête a été tuée. Son corps a été détruit et livré au feu pour être brûlé.

KJV ¹² As concerning the rest of the beasts, they had their dominion taken away: yet their lives were prolonged for a season and time.

KJV ¹⁴ And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should serve him: his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed.

S21 ¹⁴ On lui a donné la domination, la gloire et le règne, et tous les peuples, les nations et les hommes de toute langue l'ont servi. Sa domination est une domination éternelle qui ne cessera pas et son royaume ne sera jamais détruit.

VULC ¹⁴ Et dedit ei potestatem, et honorem, et regnum : et omnes populi, tribus, et linguæ ipsi servient : potestas ejus, potestas æterna, quæ non auferetur : et regnum ejus, quod non corrumpetur.
