BAN ¹ Et ce sont ici les noms des fils d'Israël venus en Egypte. Ils y entrèrent avec Jacob, chacun d'eux avec sa famille :

KJV ¹ Now these are the names of the children of Israel, which came into Egypt; every man and his household came with Jacob.

BAN ² Ruben, Siméon, Lévi et Juda ;

KJV ² Reuben, Simeon, Levi, and Judah,

BAN ³ Issacar, Zabulon et Benjamin ;

KJV ³ Issachar, Zebulun, and Benjamin,

BAN ⁴ Dan et Nephthali, Gad et Asser.

KJV ⁴ Dan, and Naphtali, Gad, and Asher.

BAN ⁵ Toutes les personnes issues de Jacob étaient au nombre de soixante-dix, et Joseph était déjà en Egypte.

KJV ⁵ And all the souls that came out of the loins of Jacob were seventy souls: for Joseph was in Egypt already.

BAN ⁶ Et Joseph mourut, ainsi que tous ses frères et toute cette génération-là.

KJV ⁶ And Joseph died, and all his brethren, and all that generation.

BAN ⁷ Et les fils d'Israël s'étaient accrus ; ils multiplièrent et devinrent nombreux et extrêmement forts, et le pays en fut rempli.

KJV ⁷ And the children of Israel were fruitful, and increased abundantly, and multiplied, and waxed exceeding mighty; and the land was filled with them.

BAN ⁸ Et il s'éleva sur l'Egypte un nouveau roi qui n'avait point connu Joseph,

KJV ⁸ Now there arose up a new king over Egypt, which knew not Joseph.

BAN ⁹ et il dit à son peuple : Voilà que le peuple des fils d'Israël est trop nombreux et trop fort pour nous.

KJV ⁹ And he said unto his people, Behold, the people of the children of Israel are more and mightier than we:

BAN ¹⁰ Voyons ! prenons des précautions contre lui, de peur qu'il ne s'augmente et que, lorsque viendra une guerre, il ne se joigne, lui aussi, à ceux qui nous veulent du mal, et qu'il ne combatte contre nous et ne sorte du pays.

KJV ¹⁰ Come on, let us deal wisely with them; lest they multiply, and it come to pass, that, when there falleth out any war, they join also unto our enemies, and fight against us, and so get them up out of the land.

BAN ¹¹ Alors on établit sur Israël des chefs de corvée pour l'écraser par leurs réquisitions, et il bâtit pour Pharaon des villes de greniers, Pithom et Ramsès.

KJV ¹¹ Therefore they did set over them taskmasters to afflict them with their burdens. And they built for Pharaoh treasure cities, Pithom and Raamses.

BAN ¹² Mais plus on l'opprimait, plus il devenait nombreux et s'étendait. Et les fils d'Israël devinrent odieux aux Egyptiens.

KJV ¹² But the more they afflicted them, the more they multiplied and grew. And they were grieved because of the children of Israel.

BAN ¹³ Alors les Egyptiens firent travailler les fils d'Israël par force ;

KJV ¹³ And the Egyptians made the children of Israel to serve with rigour:

BAN ¹⁴ ils leur rendirent la vie amère par des travaux pénibles, mortier, briques et travaux de campagne de toute sorte ; tout le travail qu'on tirait d'eux était travail forcé.

KJV ¹⁴ And they made their lives bitter with hard bondage, in morter, and in brick, and in all manner of service in the field: all their service, wherein they made them serve, was with rigour.

BAN ¹⁵ Et le roi d'Egypte parla aux sages-femmes des Hébreux ; le nom de l'une était Siphra et le nom de l'autre Pua ;

KJV ¹⁵ And the king of Egypt spake to the Hebrew midwives, of which the name of the one was Shiphrah, and the name of the other Puah:

BAN ¹⁶ et il leur dit : Quand vous accoucherez les femmes des Hébreues et que vous les verrez sur les sièges, si c'est un fils, vous le ferez mourir ; si c'est une fille, elle peut vivre.

KJV ¹⁶ And he said, When ye do the office of a midwife to the Hebrew women, and see them upon the stools; if it be a son, then ye shall kill him: but if it be a daughter, then she shall live.

BAN ¹⁷ Mais les sages-femmes craignirent Dieu : elles ne firent point comme leur avait dit le roi d'Egypte, mais laissèrent vivre les garçons.

KJV ¹⁷ But the midwives feared God, and did not as the king of Egypt commanded them, but saved the men children alive.

BAN ¹⁸ Et le roi d'Egypte fit appeler les sages-femmes et leur dit : Pourquoi avez-vous agi de la sorte et laissé vivre les garçons ?

KJV ¹⁸ And the king of Egypt called for the midwives, and said unto them, Why have ye done this thing, and have saved the men children alive?

BAN ¹⁹ Et les sages-femmes dirent à Pharaon : C'est que les femmes des Hébreux ne sont pas comme les Egyptiennes. Elles sont vigoureuses ; avant que leur arrive la sage-femme, elles sont accouchées !

KJV ¹⁹ And the midwives said unto Pharaoh, Because the Hebrew women are not as the Egyptian women; for they are lively, and are delivered ere the midwives come in unto them.

BAN ²⁰ Et Dieu fit du bien aux sages-femmes, et le peuple devint nombreux et extrêmement fort.

KJV ²⁰ Therefore God dealt well with the midwives: and the people multiplied, and waxed very mighty.

BAN ²¹ Alors, comme les sages-femmes avaient craint Dieu et que Dieu avait accru les familles des Israélites,

KJV ²¹ And it came to pass, because the midwives feared God, that he made them houses.

BAN ²² Pharaon donna cet ordre à tout son peuple : Tous les fils qui naîtront, jetez-les dans le fleuve ; mais toutes les filles, laissez-les vivre !

KJV ²² And Pharaoh charged all his people, saying, Every son that is born ye shall cast into the river, and every daughter ye shall save alive.

BAN ¹ Et un homme de la maison de Lévi alla prendre pour femme une fille de Lévi.

KJV ¹ And there went a man of the house of Levi, and took to wife a daughter of Levi.

BAN ² Et cette femme conçut et enfanta un fils, et elle vit qu'il était beau et le cacha trois mois.

KJV ² And the woman conceived, and bare a son: and when she saw him that he was a goodly child, she hid him three months.

BAN ³ Quand elle ne put plus le tenir caché, elle prit une arche en roseau, l'enduisit de bitume et de poix et y mit le petit garçon. Puis elle mit l'arche dans les joncs sur la rive du fleuve.

KJV ³ And when she could not longer hide him, she took for him an ark of bulrushes, and daubed it with slime and with pitch, and put the child therein; and she laid it in the flags by the river's brink.

BAN ⁴ Et la soeur de l'enfant se tenait à distance pour savoir ce qui lui arriverait.

KJV ⁴ And his sister stood afar off, to wit what would be done to him.

BAN ⁵ Or la fille de Pharaon vint faire ses ablutions sur le bord du fleuve et ses femmes marchaient le long du fleuve. Elle vit l'arche au milieu des joncs et envoya sa servante pour le prendre.

KJV ⁵ And the daughter of Pharaoh came down to wash herself at the river; and her maidens walked along by the river's side; and when she saw the ark among the flags, she sent her maid to fetch it.

BAN ⁶ Et elle l'ouvrit et vit l'enfant : c'était un petit garçon qui pleurait. Et elle eut pitié de lui et dit : C'est un des enfants des Hébreux.

KJV ⁶ And when she had opened it, she saw the child: and, behold, the babe wept. And she had compassion on him, and said, This is one of the Hebrews' children.

BAN ⁷ Et la soeur de l'enfant dit à la fille de Pharaon : Dois-je aller te chercher une nourrice d'entre les femmes des Hébreux pour qu'elle t'allaite ce petit garçon ?

KJV ⁷ Then said his sister to Pharaoh's daughter, Shall I go and call to thee a nurse of the Hebrew women, that she may nurse the child for thee?

BAN ⁸ Et la fille de Pharaon lui dit : Va. Et la jeune fille alla chercher la mère de l'enfant.

KJV ⁸ And Pharaoh's daughter said to her, Go. And the maid went and called the child's mother.

BAN ⁹ Et la fille de Pharaon lui dit : Emporte cet enfant-là et allaite-le moi ; c'est moi qui te donnerai ton salaire. Et la femme prit l'enfant et l'allaita.

KJV ⁹ And Pharaoh's daughter said unto her, Take this child away, and nurse it for me, and I will give thee thy wages. And the women took the child, and nursed it.

BAN ¹⁰ Quand l'enfant eut grandi, elle l'amena à la fille de Pharaon et il devint son fils, et elle lui donna le nom de Moïse. Car, dit-elle, je l'ai tiré de l'eau.

KJV ¹⁰ And the child grew, and she brought him unto Pharaoh's daughter, and he became her son. And she called his name Moses: and she said, Because I drew him out of the water.

BAN ¹¹ Et il arriva, en ce temps-là, que Moïse, étant devenu grand, sortit pour aller vers ses frères et vit leur lourd travail, et il vit un Egyptien frapper un Hébreu, un de ses frères.

KJV ¹¹ And it came to pass in those days, when Moses was grown, that he went out unto his brethren, and looked on their burdens: and he spied an Egyptian smiting an Hebrew, one of his brethren.

BAN ¹² Alors, s'étant tourné de côté et d'autre et voyant qu'il n'y avait personne, il tua l'Egyptien et le cacha dans le sable.

KJV ¹² And he looked this way and that way, and when he saw that there was no man, he slew the Egyptian, and hid him in the sand.

BAN ¹³ Il sortit encore le lendemain et, voyant deux Hébreux qui se battaient, il dit à celui qui avait tort : Pourquoi frappes-tu ton camarade ?

KJV ¹³ And when he went out the second day, behold, two men of the Hebrews strove together: and he said to him that did the wrong, Wherefore smitest thou thy fellow?

BAN ¹⁴ Mais celui-ci lui dit : Qui t'a établi pour être notre chef et notre juge ? Est-ce que tu veux me tuer, comme tu as tué l'Egyptien ? Alors Moïse eut peur et dit : Certainement l'affaire s'est ébruitée.

KJV ¹⁴ And he said, Who made thee a prince and a judge over us? intendest thou to kill me, as thou killedst the Egyptian? And Moses feared, and said, Surely this thing is known.

BAN ¹⁵ Et Pharaon apprit cette affaire et chercha à faire mourir Moïse, et Moïse s'enfuit loin de Pharaon. Il s'arrêta dans la terre de Madian et s'assit près du puits.

KJV ¹⁵ Now when Pharaoh heard this thing, he sought to slay Moses. But Moses fled from the face of Pharaoh, and dwelt in the land of Midian: and he sat down by a well.

BAN ¹⁶ Or le sacrificateur de Madian avait sept filles, et elles vinrent puiser de l'eau et remplirent les auges pour abreuver les brebis de leur père.

KJV ¹⁶ Now the priest of Midian had seven daughters: and they came and drew water, and filled the troughs to water their father's flock.

BAN ¹⁷ Mais les bergers étant venus les chasser, Moïse se leva, prit leur défense et abreuva leurs brebis.

KJV ¹⁷ And the shepherds came and drove them away: but Moses stood up and helped them, and watered their flock.

BAN ¹⁸ Quand elles retournèrent vers Réuël leur père, celui-ci leur dit : Pourquoi revenez-vous si tôt aujourd'hui ?

KJV ¹⁸ And when they came to Reuel their father, he said, How is it that ye are come so soon to day?

BAN ¹⁹ Et elles dirent : C'est qu'un homme égyptien nous a débarrassées des bergers et que même il a puisé pour nous toute l'eau qu'il fallait et a abreuvé les brebis.

KJV ¹⁹ And they said, An Egyptian delivered us out of the hand of the shepherds, and also drew water enough for us, and watered the flock.

BAN ²⁰ Alors il dit à ses filles : Et où est-il ? Pourquoi avez-vous laissé là cet homme ? Appelez-le et qu'il mange du pain.

KJV ²⁰ And he said unto his daughters, And where is he? why is it that ye have left the man? call him, that he may eat bread.

BAN ²¹ Et Moïse consentit à demeurer avec cet homme. Et celui-ci donna à Moïse sa fille Séphora,

KJV ²¹ And Moses was content to dwell with the man: and he gave Moses Zipporah his daughter.

BAN ²² et elle enfanta un fils auquel il donna le nom de Guersom, parce que, dit-il, j'ai été habitant d'une terre étrangère.

KJV ²² And she bare him a son, and he called his name Gershom: for he said, I have been a stranger in a strange land.

BAN ²³ Dans ce temps, qui fut long, il arriva que le roi d'Egypte mourut, et les fils d'Israël gémirent de leur servitude et crièrent, et leur appel monta à Dieu du sein de la servitude.

KJV ²³ And it came to pass in process of time, that the king of Egypt died: and the children of Israel sighed by reason of the bondage, and they cried, and their cry came up unto God by reason of the bondage.

BAN ²⁴ Et Dieu entendit leur sanglot et Dieu se souvint de son alliance avec Abraham, avec Isaac et avec Jacob,

KJV ²⁴ And God heard their groaning, and God remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob.

BAN ²⁵ et Dieu vit les fils d'Israël et Dieu connut leur état.

KJV ²⁵ And God looked upon the children of Israel, and God had respect unto them.

BAN ¹ Or Moïse était berger des brebis de Jéthro, son beau-père, sacrificateur de Madian, et il conduisit le troupeau au-delà du désert et arriva à la montagne de Dieu, à Horeb.

KJV ¹ Now Moses kept the flock of Jethro his father in law, the priest of Midian: and he led the flock to the backside of the desert, and came to the mountain of God, even to Horeb.

BAN ² Et l'ange de l'Eternel lui apparut en flamme de feu du milieu des buissons et Moïse s'aperçut que le buisson était en feu et que le buisson ne se consumait point.

KJV ² And the angel of the LORD appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush: and he looked, and, behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed.

BAN ³ Et Moïse dit : Je veux faire un détour pour voir ce grand phénomène, comment il se fait que le buisson ne brûle pas.

KJV ³ And Moses said, I will now turn aside, and see this great sight, why the bush is not burnt.

BAN ⁴ Et l'Eternel vit que Moïse s'était détourné pour regarder et Dieu l'appela du milieu des buissons et dit : Moïse, Moïse ! Et il dit : Me voici.

KJV ⁴ And when the LORD saw that he turned aside to see, God called unto him out of the midst of the bush, and said, Moses, Moses. And he said, Here am I.

BAN ⁵ Et Dieu dit : N'approche point d'ici, ôte tes sandales de tes pieds, car le lieu où tu es est une terre sainte.

KJV ⁵ And he said, Draw not nigh hither: put off thy shoes from off thy feet, for the place whereon thou standest is holy ground.

BAN ⁶ Puis il dit : Je suis le Dieu de ton père, le Dieu d'Abraham, le Dieu d'Isaac et le Dieu de Jacob. Et Moïse cacha sa face parce qu'il craignait de regarder Dieu.

KJV ⁶ Moreover he said, I am the God of thy father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. And Moses hid his face; for he was afraid to look upon God.

BAN ⁷ Et l'Eternel dit : J'ai fort bien vu l'affliction de mon peuple qui est en Egypte et j'ai entendu le cri que lui font pousser ses exacteurs, car je connais ses peines,

KJV ⁷ And the LORD said, I have surely seen the affliction of my people which are in Egypt, and have heard their cry by reason of their taskmasters; for I know their sorrows;

BAN ⁸ et je suis descendu pour l'arracher à la puissance de l'Egypte et pour le faire monter de ce pays-là dans une terre fertile et spacieuse, dans une terre découlant de lait et de miel, au lieu où se trouvent le Cananéen, le Héthien, l'Amorrhéen, le Phérézien, le Hévien et le Jébusien.

KJV ⁸ And I am come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring them up out of that land unto a good land and a large, unto a land flowing with milk and honey; unto the place of the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites.

BAN ⁹ Et maintenant, voici, le cri des fils d'Israël est arrivé à moi et j'ai vu en effet l'oppression que les Egyptiens font peser sur eux.

KJV ⁹ Now therefore, behold, the cry of the children of Israel is come unto me: and I have also seen the oppression wherewith the Egyptians oppress them.

BAN ¹⁰ Va donc maintenant : je t'envoie vers Pharaon, et fais sortir d'Egypte mon peuple, les fils d'Israël.

KJV ¹⁰ Come now therefore, and I will send thee unto Pharaoh, that thou mayest bring forth my people the children of Israel out of Egypt.

BAN ¹¹ Et Moïse dit à Dieu : Qui suis-je pour aller vers Pharaon et pour faire sortir d'Egypte les fils d'Israël ?

KJV ¹¹ And Moses said unto God, Who am I, that I should go unto Pharaoh, and that I should bring forth the children of Israel out of Egypt?

BAN ¹² Et Dieu dit : C'est que je serai avec toi. Et ceci sera pour toi le signe que c'est moi qui t'ai envoyé : quand tu auras fait sortir le peuple hors d'Egypte, vous servirez Dieu sur cette montagne-ci.

KJV ¹² And he said, Certainly I will be with thee; and this shall be a token unto thee, that I have sent thee: When thou hast brought forth the people out of Egypt, ye shall serve God upon this mountain.

BAN ¹³ Et Moïse dit à Dieu : Si je vais vers les fils d'Israël et que je leur dise : Le Dieu de vos pères m'a envoyé vers vous, et qu'ils me disent : Quel est son nom ? que leur dirai-je ?

KJV ¹³ And Moses said unto God, Behold, when I come unto the children of Israel, and shall say unto them, The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you; and they shall say to me, What is his name? what shall I say unto them?

BAN ¹⁴ Et Dieu dit à Moïse : Je suis Celui qui suis. Puis il dit : Tu parleras ainsi aux fils d'Israël :
JE SUIS m'a envoyé vers vous.

KJV ¹⁴ And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.

BAN ¹⁵ Et Dieu dit encore à Moïse : Tu parleras ainsi aux fils d'Israël : L'Eternel, Dieu de vos pères, Dieu d'Abraham, Dieu d'Isaac et Dieu de Jacob, m'a envoyé vers vous. C'est là mon nom pour toujours, c'est là mon titre d'âge en âge.

KJV ¹⁵ And God said moreover unto Moses, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, the LORD God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath sent me unto you: this is my name for ever, and this is my memorial unto all generations.

BAN ¹⁶ Va, réunis les Anciens d'Israël et dis-leur : L'Eternel, Dieu de vos pères, m'est apparu, le Dieu d'Abraham, d'Isaac et de Jacob, et il a dit : Je vous ai visités et j'ai vu ce qu'on vous fait en Egypte,

KJV ¹⁶ Go, and gather the elders of Israel together, and say unto them, The LORD God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Jacob, appeared unto me, saying, I have surely visited you, and seen that which is done to you in Egypt:

BAN ¹⁷ et j'ai résolu de vous tirer de l'affliction dont vous souffrez en Egypte pour vous faire monter dans le pays du Cananéen, du Héthien, de l'Amorrhéen, du Phérézien, du Hévien et du Jébusien, dans un pays découlant de lait et de miel.

KJV ¹⁷ And I have said, I will bring you up out of the affliction of Egypt unto the land of the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites, unto a land flowing with milk and honey.

BAN ¹⁸ Et ils écouteront ta voix et tu iras, toi et les Anciens d'Israël, vers le roi d'Egypte et vous lui direz : L'Eternel, Dieu des Hébreux, est venu à nous, et maintenant nous voudrions aller à trois journées de marche dans le désert pour offrir un sacrifice à l'Eternel notre Dieu.

KJV ¹⁸ And they shall hearken to thy voice: and thou shalt come, thou and the elders of Israel, unto the king of Egypt, and ye shall say unto him, The LORD God of the Hebrews hath met with us: and now let us go, we beseech thee, three days' journey into the wilderness, that we may sacrifice to the LORD our God.

BAN ¹⁹ Et moi je sais que le roi d'Egypte ne vous permettra pas d'aller, pas même si vous employiez la force.

KJV ¹⁹ And I am sure that the king of Egypt will not let you go, no, not by a mighty hand.

BAN ²⁰ Mais j'étendrai ma main et je frapperai l'Egypte par tous mes prodiges que je ferai au milieu d'elle. Après cela, il vous renverra.

KJV ²⁰ And I will stretch out my hand, and smite Egypt with all my wonders which I will do in the midst thereof: and after that he will let you go.

BAN ²¹ Et je ferai trouver grâce à ce peuple aux yeux des Egyptiens, et il arrivera que, quand vous partirez, vous ne partirez point les mains vides.

KJV ²¹ And I will give this people favour in the sight of the Egyptians: and it shall come to pass, that, when ye go, ye shall not go empty.

BAN ²² Mais chaque femme demandera à sa voisine et à celle qui habitera chez elle des objets d'argent, des objets d'or et des habits, et vous les mettrez sur vos fils et sur vos filles, et ainsi vous emporterez les dépouilles de l'Egypte.

KJV ²² But every woman shall borrow of her neighbour, and of her that sojourneth in her house, jewels of silver, and jewels of gold, and raiment: and ye shall put them upon your sons, and upon your daughters; and ye shall spoil the Egyptians.

BAN ¹ Et Moïse répondit : Mais s'ils ne me croient pas et n'obéissent pas à ma voix parce qu'ils diront : L'Eternel ne t'est point apparu ?

KJV ¹ And Moses answered and said, But, behold, they will not believe me, nor hearken unto my voice: for they will say, The LORD hath not appeared unto thee.

BAN ² Et l'Eternel lui dit : Qu'as-tu là à la main ? Il dit : Un bâton.

KJV ² And the LORD said unto him, What is that in thine hand? And he said, A rod.

BAN ³ Et l'Eternel dit : Jette-le à terre. Et il le jeta à terre, et ce bâton devint un serpent, et Moïse s'enfuit devant lui.

KJV ³ And he said, Cast it on the ground. And he cast it on the ground, and it became a serpent; and Moses fled from before it.

BAN ⁴ Et l'Eternel dit à Moïse : Etends la main et saisis-le par la queue (et Moïse étendit la main et le saisit, et dans sa main le serpent redevint bâton),

KJV ⁴ And the LORD said unto Moses, Put forth thine hand, and take it by the tail. And he put forth his hand, and caught it, and it became a rod in his hand:

BAN ⁵ afin qu'ils croient que l'Eternel, Dieu de leurs pères, Dieu d'Abraham, Dieu d'Isaac et Dieu de Jacob, t'est apparu.

KJV ⁵ That they may believe that the LORD God of their fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath appeared unto thee.

BAN ⁶ Et l'Eternel lui dit encore : Mets ta main dans ton sein. Et il mit la main dans son sein, puis l'en sortit, et voici, sa main était couverte de lèpre, blanche comme la neige.

KJV ⁶ And the LORD said furthermore unto him, Put now thine hand into thy bosom. And he put his hand into his bosom: and when he took it out, behold, his hand was leprous as snow.

BAN ⁷ Et Dieu dit : Remets ta main dans ton sein (et il remit la main dans son sein, puis la sortit de son sein, et voici elle était redevenue semblable à sa chair).

KJV ⁷ And he said, Put thine hand into thy bosom again. And he put his hand into his bosom again; and plucked it out of his bosom, and, behold, it was turned again as his other flesh.

BAN ⁸ Ainsi, s'ils ne te croient pas et s'ils n'écoutent pas la voix du premier signe, ils croiront à la voix du second ;

KJV ⁸ And it shall come to pass, if they will not believe thee, neither hearken to the voice of the first sign, that they will believe the voice of the latter sign.

BAN ⁹ et s'ils ne croient pas même à ces deux signes-là et n'écoutent pas ta voix, alors tu prendras de l'eau du fleuve et tu la répandras sur le sol, et l'eau que tu auras prise du fleuve deviendra du sang sur le sol.

KJV ⁹ And it shall come to pass, if they will not believe also these two signs, neither hearken unto thy voice, that thou shalt take of the water of the river, and pour it upon the dry land: and the water which thou takest out of the river shall become blood upon the dry land.

BAN ¹⁰ Et Moïse dit à l'Eternel : Ah ! Seigneur, je ne suis pas un homme qui ait la parole facile ; il y a longtemps que je ne le suis pas, et je ne le suis pas non plus depuis que tu parles à ton serviteur, mais j'ai la bouche pesante et la langue pesante.

KJV ¹⁰ And Moses said unto the LORD, O my LORD, I am not eloquent, neither heretofore, nor since thou hast spoken unto thy servant: but I am slow of speech, and of a slow tongue.

BAN ¹¹ Et l'Eternel lui dit : Qui a donné la bouche à l'homme, ou qui est-ce qui rend muet ou sourd ou voyant ou aveugle ? N'est-ce pas moi, l'Eternel ?

KJV ¹¹ And the LORD said unto him, Who hath made man's mouth? or who maketh the dumb, or deaf, or the seeing, or the blind? have not I the LORD?

BAN ¹² Et maintenant va, et moi, je serai avec ta bouche et je t'enseignerai ce que tu devras dire.

KJV ¹² Now therefore go, and I will be with thy mouth, and teach thee what thou shalt say.

BAN ¹³ Et Moïse dit : Ah ! Seigneur ! Envoie ton message par qui tu voudras l'envoyer !

KJV ¹³ And he said, O my LORD, send, I pray thee, by the hand of him whom thou wilt send.

BAN ¹⁴ Alors la colère de l'Eternel s'enflamma contre Moïse et il dit : Et Aaron, ton frère, le Lévite ? Ne sais-je pas qu'il parle très bien, lui ? Et même, il va venir à ta rencontre ; il te verra et se réjouira dans son coeur.

KJV ¹⁴ And the anger of the LORD was kindled against Moses, and he said, Is not Aaron the Levite thy brother? I know that he can speak well. And also, behold, he cometh forth to meet thee: and when he seeth thee, he will be glad in his heart.

BAN ¹⁵ Et tu lui parleras et tu mettras dans sa bouche ce qu'il devra dire, et moi je serai avec ta bouche et avec sa bouche, et je vous montrerai ce que vous aurez à faire.

KJV ¹⁵ And thou shalt speak unto him, and put words in his mouth: and I will be with thy mouth, and with his mouth, and will teach you what ye shall do.

BAN ¹⁶ Et c'est lui qui parlera pour toi au peuple ; il te servira de bouche et tu lui seras dieu.

KJV ¹⁶ And he shall be thy spokesman unto the people: and he shall be, even he shall be to thee instead of a mouth, and thou shalt be to him instead of God.

BAN ¹⁷ Et tu prendras en main ce bâton-là avec lequel tu feras les prodiges.

KJV ¹⁷ And thou shalt take this rod in thine hand, wherewith thou shalt do signs.

BAN ¹⁸ Et Moïse s'en alla et retourna vers Jéthro son beau-père et lui dit : Je voudrais partir et retourner vers mes frères qui sont en Egypte pour voir s'ils sont encore en vie. Et Jéthro dit à Moïse : Va en paix.

KJV ¹⁸ And Moses went and returned to Jethro his father in law, and said unto him, Let me go, I pray thee, and return unto my brethren which are in Egypt, and see whether they be yet alive. And Jethro said to Moses, Go in peace.

BAN ¹⁹ Et l'Eternel dit à Moïse en Madian : Va, retourne en Egypte, car tous les hommes qui en voulaient à ta vie sont morts.

KJV ¹⁹ And the LORD said unto Moses in Midian, Go, return into Egypt: for all the men are dead which sought thy life.

BAN ²⁰ Alors Moïse prit sa femme et ses fils et les fit monter sur l'âne et retourner au pays d'Egypte. Et Moïse prit en main le bâton de Dieu.

KJV ²⁰ And Moses took his wife and his sons, and set them upon an ass, and he returned to the land of Egypt: and Moses took the rod of God in his hand.

BAN ²¹ Et l'Eternel dit à Moïse : En t'en retournant en Egypte, considère tous les prodiges que j'ai mis en ta main : tu les feras devant Pharaon, et moi, j'endurcirai son coeur, et il ne laissera pas aller le peuple.

KJV ²¹ And the LORD said unto Moses, When thou goest to return into Egypt, see that thou do all those wonders before Pharaoh, which I have put in thine hand: but I will harden his heart, that he shall not let the people go.

BAN ²² Et tu diras à Pharaon : Ainsi a dit l'Eternel : Israël est mon fils, mon premier-né,

KJV ²² And thou shalt say unto Pharaoh, Thus saith the LORD, Israel is my son, even my firstborn:

BAN ²³ et je t'ai dit : Laisse aller mon fils pour qu'il me serve ; et tu as refusé de le laisser aller. Je vais tuer ton fils, ton premier-né.

KJV ²³ And I say unto thee, Let my son go, that he may serve me: and if thou refuse to let him go, behold, I will slay thy son, even thy firstborn.

BAN ²⁴ Et il arriva qu'en route, à l'endroit où ils passaient la nuit, l'Eternel vint à Moïse et chercha à le faire mourir.

KJV ²⁴ And it came to pass by the way in the inn, that the LORD met him, and sought to kill him.

BAN ²⁵ Alors Séphora prit une pierre tranchante et coupa le prépuce de son fils et en toucha les pieds de Moïse.

KJV ²⁵ Then Zipporah took a sharp stone, and cut off the foreskin of her son, and cast it at his feet, and said, Surely a bloody husband art thou to me.

BAN ²⁶ Et elle dit : Tu es pour moi un époux de sang. Et il le laissa ; c'est alors qu'elle dit : Epoux de sang ! en parlant des circoncisions.

KJV ²⁶ So he let him go: then she said, A bloody husband thou art, because of the circumcision.

BAN ²⁷ Et l'Eternel dit à Aaron : Va au-devant de Moïse dans le désert. Et il alla et le rencontra à la montagne de Dieu et il l'embrassa.

KJV ²⁷ And the LORD said to Aaron, Go into the wilderness to meet Moses. And he went, and met him in the mount of God, and kissed him.

BAN ²⁸ Et Moïse fit connaître à Aaron toutes les paroles que l'Eternel l'avait chargé de dire et tous les prodiges qu'il lui avait ordonné de faire.

KJV ²⁸ And Moses told Aaron all the words of the LORD who had sent him, and all the signs which he had commanded him.

BAN ²⁹ Et Moïse alla avec Aaron et ils assemblèrent tous les Anciens des fils d'Israël,

KJV ²⁹ And Moses and Aaron went and gathered together all the elders of the children of Israel:

BAN ³⁰ et Aaron dit toutes les paroles que l'Eternel avait dites à Moïse et il fit les prodiges aux yeux du peuple,

KJV ³⁰ And Aaron spake all the words which the LORD had spoken unto Moses, and did the signs in the sight of the people.

BAN ³¹ et le peuple crut. Et ils apprirent que l'Eternel avait visité les fils d'Israël et qu'il avait vu leur affliction, et ils s'inclinèrent et se prosternèrent.

KJV ³¹ And the people believed: and when they heard that the LORD had visited the children of Israel, and that he had looked upon their affliction, then they bowed their heads and worshipped.

BAN ¹ Après cela, Moïse et Aaron étant venus vers Pharaon lui dirent : Ainsi a dit l'Eternel, Dieu d'Israël : Laisse aller mon peuple pour qu'il célèbre une fête en mon honneur dans le désert.

KJV ¹ And afterward Moses and Aaron went in, and told Pharaoh, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Let my people go, that they may hold a feast unto me in the wilderness.

BAN ² Et Pharaon dit : Qui est l'Eternel, que j'obéisse à sa voix en laissant aller Israël ? Je ne connais pas l'Eternel, aussi ne laisserai-je pas aller Israël.

KJV ² And Pharaoh said, Who is the LORD, that I should obey his voice to let Israel go? I know not the LORD, neither will I let Israel go.

BAN ³ Et ils dirent : Le Dieu des Hébreux s'est manifesté à nous. Nous voudrions aller à trois journées de marche dans le désert pour sacrifier à l'Eternel notre Dieu, de peur qu'il ne nous frappe par la peste ou par l'épée.

KJV ³ And they said, The God of the Hebrews hath met with us: let us go, we pray thee, three days' journey into the desert, and sacrifice unto the LORD our God; lest he fall upon us with pestilence, or with the sword.

BAN ⁴ Et le roi d'Egypte leur dit : Pourquoi, Moïse et Aaron, faites-vous quitter au peuple son ouvrage ? Allez à vos corvées !

KJV ⁴ And the king of Egypt said unto them, Wherefore do ye, Moses and Aaron, let the people from their works? get you unto your burdens.

BAN ⁵ Et Pharaon dit : Voici le bas peuple est maintenant nombreux et vous lui faites cesser ses corvées !

KJV ⁵ And Pharaoh said, Behold, the people of the land now are many, and ye make them rest from their burdens.

BAN ⁶ Et en ce jour-là Pharaon donna aux exacteurs du peuple et à ses contremaîtres l'ordre suivant :

KJV ⁶ And Pharaoh commanded the same day the taskmasters of the people, and their officers, saying,

BAN ⁷ Vous ne donnerez plus de paille aux gens pour faire les briques, comme on l'a fait jusqu'ici ; ils iront eux-mêmes ramasser la paille qu'il leur faut.

KJV ⁷ Ye shall no more give the people straw to make brick, as heretofore: let them go and gather straw for themselves.

BAN ⁸ Mais vous leur imposerez la tâche de briques qu'ils ont toujours faite ; vous n'en retrancherez rien, car ce sont des paresseux ; c'est pourquoi ils crient : Nous voudrions aller faire un sacrifice à notre Dieu.

KJV ⁸ And the tale of the bricks, which they did make heretofore, ye shall lay upon them; ye shall not diminish ought thereof: for they be idle; therefore they cry, saying, Let us go and sacrifice to our God.

BAN ⁹ Que les gens soient chargés d'ouvrage et s'y occupent, et qu'ils ne fassent plus attention aux mensonges qu'on leur dit.

KJV ⁹ Let there more work be laid upon the men, that they may labour therein; and let them not regard vain words.

BAN ¹⁰ Et les exacteurs du peuple et ses contremaîtres allèrent parler ainsi au peuple : Ainsi a dit Pharaon : Je ne vous donne plus de paille.

KJV ¹⁰ And the taskmasters of the people went out, and their officers, and they spake to the people, saying, Thus saith Pharaoh, I will not give you straw.

BAN ¹¹ Allez donc vous-mêmes prendre de la paille où vous en trouverez, car rien ne sera retranché de votre tâche.

KJV ¹¹ Go ye, get you straw where ye can find it: yet not ought of your work shall be diminished.

BAN ¹² Et le peuple se répandit dans tout le pays d'Egypte afin de ramasser du chaume pour en faire de la paille hachée.

KJV ¹² So the people were scattered abroad throughout all the land of Egypt to gather stubble instead of straw.

BAN ¹³ Et les exacteurs les pressaient disant : Faites tout votre ouvrage, jour par jour, comme quand on avait la paille !

KJV ¹³ And the taskmasters hasted them, saying, Fulfil your works, your daily tasks, as when there was straw.

BAN ¹⁴ Et l'on battit les contremaîtres des fils d'Israël, qu'avaient établis sur eux les exacteurs de Pharaon, en leur disant : Pourquoi n'avez-vous pas fait ces jours-ci toute votre tâche de briques comme précédemment ?

KJV ¹⁴ And the officers of the children of Israel, which Pharaoh's taskmasters had set over them, were beaten, and demanded, Wherefore have ye not fulfilled your task in making brick both yesterday and to day, as heretofore?

BAN ¹⁵ Et les contremaîtres des fils d'Israël allèrent réclamer à Pharaon et lui dirent : Pourquoi traiterais-tu ainsi tes serviteurs ?

KJV ¹⁵ Then the officers of the children of Israel came and cried unto Pharaoh, saying, Wherefore dealest thou thus with thy servants?

BAN ¹⁶ On ne fournit pas de paille à tes serviteurs et on nous dit : Faites des briques ! Et comme cela tes serviteurs sont battus et ton peuple se trouve en faute !

KJV ¹⁶ There is no straw given unto thy servants, and they say to us, Make brick: and, behold, thy servants are beaten; but the fault is in thine own people.

BAN ¹⁷ Et Pharaon dit : Vous êtes des paresseux, des paresseux ! c'est pourquoi vous dites : Nous voudrions aller faire un sacrifice à l'Eternel.

KJV ¹⁷ But he said, Ye are idle, ye are idle: therefore ye say, Let us go and do sacrifice to the LORD.

BAN ¹⁸ Et maintenant allez travailler, on ne vous donnera pas de paille et vous ferez votre tâche de briques.

KJV ¹⁸ Go therefore now, and work; for there shall no straw be given you, yet shall ye deliver the tale of bricks.

BAN ¹⁹ Et les contremaîtres des fils d'Israël se virent dans une position fâcheuse, puisqu'on leur disait : Vous ne retrancherez rien de vos briques ; à chaque jour sa tâche !

KJV ¹⁹ And the officers of the children of Israel did see that they were in evil case, after it was said, Ye shall not minish ought from your bricks of your daily task.

BAN ²⁰ Ils trouvèrent Moïse et Aaron qui se tenaient là pour les attendre quand ils sortiraient de chez Pharaon,

KJV ²⁰ And they met Moses and Aaron, who stood in the way, as they came forth from Pharaoh:

BAN ²¹ et ils leur dirent : Que l'Eternel vous voie et qu'il juge, vous qui nous avez mis en mauvaise odeur auprès de Pharaon et auprès de ses serviteurs et qui leur avez mis l'épée à la main pour nous tuer !

KJV ²¹ And they said unto them, The LORD look upon you, and judge; because ye have made our savour to be abhorred in the eyes of Pharaoh, and in the eyes of his servants, to put a sword in their hand to slay us.

BAN ²² Alors Moïse retourna vers l'Eternel et dit : Seigneur ! Pourquoi as-tu fait du mal à ce peuple ? Pourquoi donc m'as-tu envoyé ?

KJV ²² And Moses returned unto the LORD, and said, LORD, wherefore hast thou so evil entreated this people? why is it that thou hast sent me?

BAN ²³ Depuis que je me suis présenté à Pharaon pour lui parler en ton nom, il a fait du mal à ce peuple et tu n'as pas du tout délivré ton peuple !

KJV ²³ For since I came to Pharaoh to speak in thy name, he hath done evil to this people; neither hast thou delivered thy people at all.
