KJV ⁹ And he said unto his people, Behold, the people of the children of Israel are more and mightier than we:

LSG ⁹ Il dit à son peuple: Voilà les enfants d'Israël qui forment un peuple plus nombreux et plus puissant que nous.

VULC ⁹ Et ait ad populum suum : Ecce, populus filiorum Israël multus, et fortior nobis est.

WLC ⁹ וַיֹּ֖אמֶר אֶל־ עַמּ֑וֹ הִנֵּ֗ה עַ֚ם בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל רַ֥ב וְעָצ֖וּם מִמֶּֽנּוּ׃

KJV ¹⁰ Come on, let us deal wisely with them; lest they multiply, and it come to pass, that, when there falleth out any war, they join also unto our enemies, and fight against us, and so get them up out of the land.

LSG ¹⁰ Allons ! montrons-nous habiles à son égard ; empêchons qu'il ne s'accroisse, et que, s'il survient une guerre, il ne se joigne à nos ennemis, pour nous combattre et sortir ensuite du pays.

VULC ¹⁰ Venite, sapienter opprimamus eum, ne forte multiplicetur : et si ingruerit contra nos bellum, addatur inimicis nostris, expugnatisque nobis egrediatur de terra.

KJV ¹¹ Therefore they did set over them taskmasters to afflict them with their burdens. And they built for Pharaoh treasure cities, Pithom and Raamses.

LSG ¹¹ Et l'on établit sur lui des chefs de corvées, afin de l'accabler de travaux pénibles. C'est ainsi qu'il bâtit les villes de Pithom et de Ramsès, pour servir de magasins à Pharaon.

KJV ¹² But the more they afflicted them, the more they multiplied and grew. And they were grieved because of the children of Israel.

KJV ¹⁴ And they made their lives bitter with hard bondage, in morter, and in brick, and in all manner of service in the field: all their service, wherein they made them serve, was with rigour.

LSG ¹⁴ Ils leur rendirent la vie amère par de rudes travaux en argile et en briques, et par tous les ouvrages des champs: et c'était avec cruauté qu'ils leur imposaient toutes ces charges.

KJV ¹⁶ And he said, When ye do the office of a midwife to the Hebrew women, and see them upon the stools; if it be a son, then ye shall kill him: but if it be a daughter, then she shall live.

LSG ¹⁶ Il leur dit: Quand vous accoucherez les femmes des Hébreux et que vous les verrez sur les sièges, si c'est un garçon, faites-le mourir ; si c'est une fille, laissez-la vivre.

VULC ¹⁶ præcipiens eis : Quando obstetricabitis Hebræas, et partus tempus advenerit : si masculus fuerit, interficite eum : si femina, reservate.

WLC ¹⁶ וַיֹּ֗אמֶר בְּיַלֶּדְכֶן֙ אֶת־ הָֽעִבְרִיּ֔וֹת וּרְאִיתֶ֖ן עַל־ הָאָבְנָ֑יִם אִם־ בֵּ֥ן הוּא֙ וַהֲמִתֶּ֣ן אֹת֔וֹ וְאִם־ בַּ֥ת הִ֖יא וָחָֽיָה׃

KJV ¹⁷ But the midwives feared God, and did not as the king of Egypt commanded them, but saved the men children alive.

LSG ¹⁷ Mais les sages-femmes craignirent Dieu, et ne firent point ce que leur avait dit le roi d'Égypte ; elles laissèrent vivre les enfants.

VULC ¹⁷ Timuerunt autem obstetrices Deum, et non fecerunt juxta præceptum regis Ægypti, sed conservabant mares.

KJV ¹⁸ And the king of Egypt called for the midwives, and said unto them, Why have ye done this thing, and have saved the men children alive?

VULC ¹⁸ Quibus ad se accersitis, rex ait : Quidnam est hoc quod facere voluistis, ut pueros servaretis ?

WLC ¹⁸ וַיִּקְרָ֤א מֶֽלֶךְ־ מִצְרַ֙יִם֙ לַֽמְיַלְּדֹ֔ת וַיֹּ֣אמֶר לָהֶ֔ן מַדּ֥וּעַ עֲשִׂיתֶ֖ן הַדָּבָ֣ר הַזֶּ֑ה וַתְּחַיֶּ֖יןָ אֶת־ הַיְלָדִֽים׃

KJV ¹⁹ And the midwives said unto Pharaoh, Because the Hebrew women are not as the Egyptian women; for they are lively, and are delivered ere the midwives come in unto them.

LSG ¹⁹ Les sages-femmes répondirent à Pharaon: C'est que les femmes des Hébreux ne sont pas comme les Égyptiennes ; elles sont vigoureuses et elles accouchent avant l'arrivée de la sage-femme.

VULC ¹⁹ Quæ responderunt : Non sunt Hebrææ sicut ægyptiæ mulieres : ipsæ enim obstetricandi habent scientiam, et priusquam veniamus ad eas, pariunt.

WLC ¹⁹ וַתֹּאמַ֤רְןָ הַֽמְיַלְּדֹת֙ אֶל־ פַּרְעֹ֔ה כִּ֣י לֹ֧א כַנָּשִׁ֛ים הַמִּצְרִיֹּ֖ת הָֽעִבְרִיֹּ֑ת כִּֽי־ חָי֣וֹת הֵ֔נָּה בְּטֶ֨רֶם תָּב֧וֹא אֲלֵהֶ֛ן הַמְיַלֶּ֖דֶת וְיָלָֽדוּ׃

KJV ²⁰ Therefore God dealt well with the midwives: and the people multiplied, and waxed very mighty.

LSG ²⁰ Dieu fit du bien aux sages-femmes ; et le peuple multiplia et devint très nombreux.

VULC ²⁰ Bene ergo fecit Deus obstetricibus : et crevit populus, confortatusque est nimis.

KJV ²¹ And it came to pass, because the midwives feared God, that he made them houses.

LSG ²¹ Parce que les sages-femmes avaient eu la crainte de Dieu, Dieu fit prospérer leurs maisons.

VULC ²¹ Et quia timuerunt obstetrices Deum, ædificavit eis domos.

WLC ²¹ וַיְהִ֕י כִּֽי־ יָֽרְא֥וּ הַֽמְיַלְּדֹ֖ת אֶת־ הָאֱלֹהִ֑ים וַיַּ֥עַשׂ לָהֶ֖ם בָּתִּֽים׃

KJV ²² And Pharaoh charged all his people, saying, Every son that is born ye shall cast into the river, and every daughter ye shall save alive.

LSG ²² Alors Pharaon donna cet ordre à tout son peuple: Vous jetterez dans le fleuve tout garçon qui naîtra, et vous laisserez vivre toutes les filles.

KJV ¹ And there went a man of the house of Levi, and took to wife a daughter of Levi.

KJV ² And the woman conceived, and bare a son: and when she saw him that he was a goodly child, she hid him three months.

LSG ² Cette femme devint enceinte et enfanta un fils. Elle vit qu'il était beau, et elle le cacha pendant trois mois.

KJV ³ And when she could not longer hide him, she took for him an ark of bulrushes, and daubed it with slime and with pitch, and put the child therein; and she laid it in the flags by the river's brink.

LSG ³ Ne pouvant plus le cacher, elle prit une caisse de jonc, qu'elle enduisit de bitume et de poix ; elle y mit l'enfant, et le déposa parmi les roseaux, sur le bord du fleuve.

VULC ³ Cumque jam celare non posset, sumpsit fiscellam scirpeam, et linivit eam bitumine ac pice : posuitque intus infantulum, et exposuit eum in carecto ripæ fluminis,

WLC ³ וְלֹא־ יָכְלָ֣ה עוֹד֮ הַצְּפִינוֹ֒ וַתִּֽקַּֽח־ לוֹ֙ תֵּ֣בַת גֹּ֔מֶא וַתַּחְמְרָ֥ה בַחֵמָ֖ר וּבַזָּ֑פֶת וַתָּ֤שֶׂם בָּהּ֙ אֶת־ הַיֶּ֔לֶד וַתָּ֥שֶׂם בַּסּ֖וּף עַל־ שְׂפַ֥ת הַיְאֹֽר׃

KJV ⁴ And his sister stood afar off, to wit what would be done to him.

LSG ⁴ La soeur de l'enfant se tint à quelque distance, pour savoir ce qui lui arriverait.

VULC ⁴ stante procul sorore ejus, et considerante eventum rei.

WLC ⁴ וַתֵּתַצַּ֥ב אֲחֹת֖וֹ מֵרָחֹ֑ק לְדֵעָ֕ה מַה־ יֵּעָשֶׂ֖ה לֽוֹ׃

KJV ⁵ And the daughter of Pharaoh came down to wash herself at the river; and her maidens walked along by the river's side; and when she saw the ark among the flags, she sent her maid to fetch it.

LSG ⁵ La fille de Pharaon descendit au fleuve pour se baigner, et ses compagnes se promenèrent le long du fleuve. Elle aperçut la caisse au milieu des roseaux, et elle envoya sa servante pour la prendre.

VULC ⁵ Ecce autem descendebat filia Pharaonis ut lavaretur in flumine : et puellæ ejus gradiebantur per crepidinem alvei. Quæ cum vidisset fiscellam in papyrione, misit unam e famulabus suis : et allatam

WLC ⁵ וַתֵּ֤רֶד בַּת־ פַּרְעֹה֙ לִרְחֹ֣ץ עַל־ הַיְאֹ֔ר וְנַעֲרֹתֶ֥יהָ הֹלְכֹ֖ת עַל־ יַ֣ד הַיְאֹ֑ר וַתֵּ֤רֶא אֶת־ הַתֵּבָה֙ בְּת֣וֹךְ הַסּ֔וּף וַתִּשְׁלַ֥ח אֶת־ אֲמָתָ֖הּ וַתִּקָּחֶֽהָ

KJV ⁶ And when she had opened it, she saw the child: and, behold, the babe wept. And she had compassion on him, and said, This is one of the Hebrews' children.

LSG ⁶ Elle l'ouvrit, et vit l'enfant: c'était un petit garçon qui pleurait. Elle en eut pitié, et elle dit: C'est un enfant des Hébreux !

VULC ⁶ aperiens, cernensque in ea parvulum vagientem, miserta ejus, ait : De infantibus Hebræorum est hic.

WLC ⁶ וַתִּפְתַּח֙ וַתִּרְאֵ֣הוּ אֶת־ הַיֶּ֔לֶד וְהִנֵּה־ נַ֖עַר בֹּכֶ֑ה וַתַּחְמֹ֣ל עָלָ֔יו וַתֹּ֕אמֶר מִיַּלְדֵ֥י הָֽעִבְרִ֖ים זֶֽה׃

KJV ⁷ Then said his sister to Pharaoh's daughter, Shall I go and call to thee a nurse of the Hebrew women, that she may nurse the child for thee?

LSG ⁷ Alors la soeur de l'enfant dit à la fille de Pharaon: Veux-tu que j'aille te chercher une nourrice parmi les femmes des Hébreux, pour allaiter cet enfant ?

VULC ⁷ Cui soror pueri : Vis, inquit, ut vadam, et vocem tibi mulierem hebræam, quæ nutrire possit infantulum ?

WLC ⁷ וַתֹּ֣אמֶר אֲחֹתוֹ֮ אֶל־ בַּת־ פַּרְעֹה֒ הַאֵלֵ֗ךְ וְקָרָ֤אתִי לָךְ֙ אִשָּׁ֣ה מֵינֶ֔קֶת מִ֖ן הָעִבְרִיֹּ֑ת וְתֵינִ֥ק לָ֖ךְ אֶת־ הַיָּֽלֶד׃

KJV ⁸ And Pharaoh's daughter said to her, Go. And the maid went and called the child's mother.

LSG ⁸ Va, lui répondit la fille de Pharaon. Et la jeune fille alla chercher la mère de l'enfant.

VULC ⁸ Respondit : Vade. Perrexit puella et vocavit matrem suam.

WLC ⁸ וַתֹּֽאמֶר־ לָ֥הּ בַּת־ פַּרְעֹ֖ה לֵ֑כִי וַתֵּ֙לֶךְ֙ הָֽעַלְמָ֔ה וַתִּקְרָ֖א אֶת־ אֵ֥ם הַיָּֽלֶד׃

KJV ⁹ And Pharaoh's daughter said unto her, Take this child away, and nurse it for me, and I will give thee thy wages. And the women took the child, and nursed it.

LSG ⁹ La fille de Pharaon lui dit: Emporte cet enfant, et allaite-le-moi ; je te donnerai ton salaire. La femme prit l'enfant, et l'allaita.

KJV ¹⁰ And the child grew, and she brought him unto Pharaoh's daughter, and he became her son. And she called his name Moses: and she said, Because I drew him out of the water.

KJV ¹¹ And it came to pass in those days, when Moses was grown, that he went out unto his brethren, and looked on their burdens: and he spied an Egyptian smiting an Hebrew, one of his brethren.

LSG ¹¹ En ce temps-là, Moïse, devenu grand, se rendit vers ses frères, et fut témoin de leurs pénibles travaux. Il vit un Égyptien qui frappait un Hébreu d'entre ses frères.

WLC ¹¹ וַיְהִ֣י ׀ בַּיָּמִ֣ים הָהֵ֗ם וַיִּגְדַּ֤ל מֹשֶׁה֙ וַיֵּצֵ֣א אֶל־ אֶחָ֔יו וַיַּ֖רְא בְּסִבְלֹתָ֑ם וַיַּרְא֙ אִ֣ישׁ מִצְרִ֔י מַכֶּ֥ה אִישׁ־ עִבְרִ֖י מֵאֶחָֽיו׃

KJV ¹² And he looked this way and that way, and when he saw that there was no man, he slew the Egyptian, and hid him in the sand.

LSG ¹² Il regarda de côté et d'autre, et, voyant qu'il n'y avait personne, il tua l'Égyptien, et le cacha dans le sable.

VULC ¹² Cumque circumspexisset huc atque illuc, et nullum adesse vidisset, percussum Ægyptium abscondit sabulo.

WLC ¹² וַיִּ֤פֶן כֹּה֙ וָכֹ֔ה וַיַּ֖רְא כִּ֣י אֵ֣ין אִ֑ישׁ וַיַּךְ֙ אֶת־ הַמִּצְרִ֔י וַֽיִּטְמְנֵ֖הוּ בַּחֽוֹל׃

KJV ¹³ And when he went out the second day, behold, two men of the Hebrews strove together: and he said to him that did the wrong, Wherefore smitest thou thy fellow?

LSG ¹³ Il sortit le jour suivant ; et voici, deux Hébreux se querellaient. Il dit à celui qui avait tort: Pourquoi frappes-tu ton prochain ?

VULC ¹³ Et egressus die altero conspexit duos Hebræos rixantes : dixitque ei qui faciebat injuriam : Quare percutis proximum tuum ?

WLC ¹³ וַיֵּצֵא֙ בַּיּ֣וֹם הַשֵּׁנִ֔י וְהִנֵּ֛ה שְׁנֵֽי־ אֲנָשִׁ֥ים עִבְרִ֖ים נִצִּ֑ים וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ לָֽרָשָׁ֔ע לָ֥מָּה תַכֶּ֖ה רֵעֶֽךָ׃

KJV ¹⁴ And he said, Who made thee a prince and a judge over us? intendest thou to kill me, as thou killedst the Egyptian? And Moses feared, and said, Surely this thing is known.

LSG ¹⁴ Et cet homme répondit: Qui t'a établi chef et juge sur nous ? Penses-tu me tuer, comme tu as tué l'Égyptien ? Moïse eut peur, et dit: Certainement la chose est connue.

VULC ¹⁴ Qui respondit : Quis te constituit principem et judicem super nos ? num occidere me tu vis, sicut heri occidisti Ægyptium ? Timuit Moyses, et ait : Quomodo palam factum est verbum istud ?

WLC ¹⁴ וַ֠יֹּאמֶר מִ֣י שָֽׂמְךָ֞ לְאִ֨ישׁ שַׂ֤ר וְשֹׁפֵט֙ עָלֵ֔ינוּ הַלְהָרְגֵ֙נִי֙ אַתָּ֣ה אֹמֵ֔ר כַּאֲשֶׁ֥ר הָרַ֖גְתָּ אֶת־ הַמִּצְרִ֑י וַיִּירָ֤א מֹשֶׁה֙ וַיֹּאמַ֔ר אָכֵ֖ן נוֹדַ֥ע הַדָּבָֽר׃

KJV ¹⁵ Now when Pharaoh heard this thing, he sought to slay Moses. But Moses fled from the face of Pharaoh, and dwelt in the land of Midian: and he sat down by a well.

LSG ¹⁵ Pharaon apprit ce qui s'était passé, et il cherchait à faire mourir Moïse. Mais Moïse s'enfuit de devant Pharaon, et il se retira dans le pays de Madian, où il s'arrêta près d'un puits.

VULC ¹⁵ Audivitque Pharao sermonem hunc, et quærebat occidere Moysen : qui fugiens de conspectu ejus, moratus est in terra Madian, et sedit juxta puteum.

WLC ¹⁵ וַיִּשְׁמַ֤ע פַּרְעֹה֙ אֶת־ הַדָּבָ֣ר הַזֶּ֔ה וַיְבַקֵּ֖שׁ לַהֲרֹ֣ג אֶת־ מֹשֶׁ֑ה וַיִּבְרַ֤ח מֹשֶׁה֙ מִפְּנֵ֣י פַרְעֹ֔ה וַיֵּ֥שֶׁב בְּאֶֽרֶץ־ מִדְיָ֖ן וַיֵּ֥שֶׁב עַֽל־ הַבְּאֵֽר׃

KJV ¹⁶ Now the priest of Midian had seven daughters: and they came and drew water, and filled the troughs to water their father's flock.

LSG ¹⁶ Le sacrificateur de Madian avait sept filles. Elles vinrent puiser de l'eau, et elles remplirent les auges pour abreuver le troupeau de leur père.

VULC ¹⁶ Erant autem sacerdoti Madian septem filiæ, quæ venerunt ad hauriendam aquam : et impletis canalibus adaquare cupiebant greges patris sui.

WLC ¹⁶ וּלְכֹהֵ֥ן מִדְיָ֖ן שֶׁ֣בַע בָּנ֑וֹת וַתָּבֹ֣אנָה וַתִּדְלֶ֗נָה וַתְּמַלֶּ֙אנָה֙ אֶת־ הָ֣רְהָטִ֔ים לְהַשְׁק֖וֹת צֹ֥אן אֲבִיהֶֽן׃

KJV ¹⁷ And the shepherds came and drove them away: but Moses stood up and helped them, and watered their flock.

LSG ¹⁷ Les bergers arrivèrent, et les chassèrent. Alors Moïse se leva, prit leur défense, et fit boire leur troupeau.

VULC ¹⁷ Supervenere pastores, et ejecerunt eas : surrexitque Moyses, et defensis puellis, adaquavit oves earum.

KJV ¹⁸ And when they came to Reuel their father, he said, How is it that ye are come so soon to day?

LSG ¹⁸ Quand elles furent de retour auprès de Réuel, leur père, il dit: Pourquoi revenez-vous si tôt aujourd'hui ?

VULC ¹⁸ Quæ cum revertissent ad Raguel patrem suum, dixit ad eas : Cur velocius venistis solito ?

WLC ¹⁸ וַתָּבֹ֕אנָה אֶל־ רְעוּאֵ֖ל אֲבִיהֶ֑ן וַיֹּ֕אמֶר מַדּ֛וּעַ מִהַרְתֶּ֥ן בֹּ֖א הַיּֽוֹם׃

KJV ¹⁹ And they said, An Egyptian delivered us out of the hand of the shepherds, and also drew water enough for us, and watered the flock.

LSG ¹⁹ Elles répondirent: Un Égyptien nous a délivrées de la main des bergers, et même il nous a puisé de l'eau, et a fait boire le troupeau.

VULC ¹⁹ Responderunt : Vir ægyptius liberavit nos de manu pastorum : insuper et hausit aquam nobiscum, potumque dedit ovibus.

WLC ¹⁹ וַתֹּאמַ֕רְןָ אִ֣ישׁ מִצְרִ֔י הִצִּילָ֖נוּ מִיַּ֣ד הָרֹעִ֑ים וְגַם־ דָּלֹ֤ה דָלָה֙ לָ֔נוּ וַיַּ֖שְׁקְ אֶת־ הַצֹּֽאן׃

KJV ²⁰ And he said unto his daughters, And where is he? why is it that ye have left the man? call him, that he may eat bread.

LSG ²⁰ Et il dit à ses filles: Où est-il ? Pourquoi avez-vous laissé cet homme ? Appelez-le, pour qu'il prenne quelque nourriture.

VULC ²⁰ At ille : Ubi est ? inquit : quare dimisistis hominem ? vocate eum ut comedat panem.

WLC ²⁰ וַיֹּ֥אמֶר אֶל־ בְּנֹתָ֖יו וְאַיּ֑וֹ לָ֤מָּה זֶּה֙ עֲזַבְתֶּ֣ן אֶת־ הָאִ֔ישׁ קִרְאֶ֥ן ל֖וֹ וְיֹ֥אכַל לָֽחֶם׃

KJV ²¹ And Moses was content to dwell with the man: and he gave Moses Zipporah his daughter.

LSG ²¹ Moïse se décida à demeurer chez cet homme, qui lui donna pour femme Séphora, sa fille.

VULC ²¹ Juravit ergo Moyses quod habitaret cum eo. Accepitque Sephoram filiam ejus uxorem :

WLC ²¹ וַיּ֥וֹאֶל מֹשֶׁ֖ה לָשֶׁ֣בֶת אֶת־ הָאִ֑ישׁ וַיִּתֵּ֛ן אֶת־ צִפֹּרָ֥ה בִתּ֖וֹ לְמֹשֶֽׁה׃

KJV ²² And she bare him a son, and he called his name Gershom: for he said, I have been a stranger in a strange land.

LSG ²² Elle enfanta un fils, qu'il appela du nom de Guerschom, car, dit-il, j'habite un pays étranger.

VULC ²² quæ peperit ei filium, quem vocavit Gersam, dicens : Advena fui in terra aliena. Alterum vero peperit, quem vocavit Eliezer, dicens : Deus enim patris mei adjutor meus eripuit me de manu Pharaonis.

WLC ²² וַתֵּ֣לֶד בֵּ֔ן וַיִּקְרָ֥א אֶת־ שְׁמ֖וֹ גֵּרְשֹׁ֑ם כִּ֣י אָמַ֔ר גֵּ֣ר הָיִ֔יתִי בְּאֶ֖רֶץ נָכְרִיָּֽה׃

KJV ²³ And it came to pass in process of time, that the king of Egypt died: and the children of Israel sighed by reason of the bondage, and they cried, and their cry came up unto God by reason of the bondage.

LSG ²³ Longtemps après, le roi d'Égypte mourut, et les enfants d'Israël gémissaient encore sous la servitude, et poussaient des cris. Ces cris, que leur arrachait la servitude, montèrent jusqu'à Dieu.

VULC ²³ Post multum vero temporis mortuus est rex Ægypti : et ingemiscentes filii Israël, propter opera vociferati sunt : ascenditque clamor eorum ad Deum ab operibus.

WLC ²³ וַיְהִי֩ בַיָּמִ֨ים הָֽרַבִּ֜ים הָהֵ֗ם וַיָּ֙מָת֙ מֶ֣לֶךְ מִצְרַ֔יִם וַיֵּאָנְח֧וּ בְנֵֽי־ יִשְׂרָאֵ֛ל מִן־ הָעֲבֹדָ֖ה וַיִּזְעָ֑קוּ וַתַּ֧עַל שַׁוְעָתָ֛ם אֶל־ הָאֱלֹהִ֖ים מִן־ הָעֲבֹדָֽה׃

KJV ²⁴ And God heard their groaning, and God remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob.

LSG ²⁴ Dieu entendit leurs gémissements, et se souvint de son alliance avec Abraham, Isaac et Jacob.

VULC ²⁴ Et audivit gemitum eorum, ac recordatus est fœderis quod pepigit cum Abraham, Isaac et Jacob.

KJV ²⁵ And God looked upon the children of Israel, and God had respect unto them.

VULC ²⁵ Et respexit Dominus filios Israël et cognovit eos.

KJV ¹ Now Moses kept the flock of Jethro his father in law, the priest of Midian: and he led the flock to the backside of the desert, and came to the mountain of God, even to Horeb.

LSG ¹ Moïse faisait paître le troupeau de Jéthro, son beau-père, sacrificateur de Madian ; et il mena le troupeau derrière le désert, et vint à la montagne de Dieu, à Horeb.

VULC ¹ Moyses autem pascebat oves Jethro soceri sui sacerdotis Madian : cumque minasset gregem ad interiora deserti, venit ad montem Dei Horeb.

WLC ¹ וּמֹשֶׁ֗ה הָיָ֥ה רֹעֶ֛ה אֶת־ צֹ֛אן יִתְר֥וֹ חֹתְנ֖וֹ כֹּהֵ֣ן מִדְיָ֑ן וַיִּנְהַ֤ג אֶת־ הַצֹּאן֙ אַחַ֣ר הַמִּדְבָּ֔ר וַיָּבֹ֛א אֶל־ הַ֥ר הָאֱלֹהִ֖ים חֹרֵֽבָה׃

KJV ² And the angel of the LORD appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush: and he looked, and, behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed.

LSG ² L'ange de l'Éternel lui apparut dans une flamme de feu, au milieu d'un buisson. Moïse regarda ; et voici, le buisson était tout en feu, et le buisson ne se consumait point.

VULC ² Apparuitque ei Dominus in flamma ignis de medio rubi : et videbat quod rubus arderet, et non combureretur.

WLC ² וַ֠יֵּרָא מַלְאַ֨ךְ יְהֹוָ֥ה אֵלָ֛יו בְּלַבַּת־ אֵ֖שׁ מִתּ֣וֹךְ הַסְּנֶ֑ה וַיַּ֗רְא וְהִנֵּ֤ה הַסְּנֶה֙ בֹּעֵ֣ר בָּאֵ֔שׁ וְהַסְּנֶ֖ה אֵינֶ֥נּוּ אֻכָּֽל׃

KJV ³ And Moses said, I will now turn aside, and see this great sight, why the bush is not burnt.

LSG ³ Moïse dit: Je veux me détourner pour voir quelle est cette grande vision, et pourquoi le buisson ne se consume point.

VULC ³ Dixit ergo Moyses : Vadam, et videbo visionem hanc magnam, quare non comburatur rubus.

WLC ³ וַיֹּ֣אמֶר מֹשֶׁ֔ה אָסֻֽרָה־ נָּ֣א וְאֶרְאֶ֔ה אֶת־ הַמַּרְאֶ֥ה הַגָּדֹ֖ל הַזֶּ֑ה מַדּ֖וּעַ לֹא־ יִבְעַ֥ר הַסְּנֶֽה׃

KJV ⁴ And when the LORD saw that he turned aside to see, God called unto him out of the midst of the bush, and said, Moses, Moses. And he said, Here am I.

LSG ⁴ L'Éternel vit qu'il se détournait pour voir ; et Dieu l'appela du milieu du buisson, et dit: Moïse ! Moïse ! Et il répondit: Me voici !

VULC ⁴ Cernens autem Dominus quod pergeret ad videndum, vocavit eum de medio rubi, et ait : Moyses, Moyses. Qui respondit : Adsum.

WLC ⁴ וַיַּ֥רְא יְהוָ֖ה כִּ֣י סָ֣ר לִרְא֑וֹת וַיִּקְרָא֩ אֵלָ֨יו אֱלֹהִ֜ים מִתּ֣וֹךְ הַסְּנֶ֗ה וַיֹּ֛אמֶר מֹשֶׁ֥ה מֹשֶׁ֖ה וַיֹּ֥אמֶר הִנֵּֽנִי׃

KJV ⁵ And he said, Draw not nigh hither: put off thy shoes from off thy feet, for the place whereon thou standest is holy ground.

LSG ⁵ Dieu dit: N'approche pas d'ici, ôte tes souliers de tes pieds, car le lieu sur lequel tu te tiens est une terre sainte.

VULC ⁵ At ille : Ne appropies, inquit, huc : solve calceamentum de pedibus tuis : locus enim, in quo stas, terra sancta est.

WLC ⁵ וַיֹּ֖אמֶר אַל־ תִּקְרַ֣ב הֲלֹ֑ם שַׁל־ נְעָלֶ֙יךָ֙ מֵעַ֣ל רַגְלֶ֔יךָ כִּ֣י הַמָּק֗וֹם אֲשֶׁ֤ר אַתָּה֙ עוֹמֵ֣ד עָלָ֔יו אַדְמַת־ קֹ֖דֶשׁ הֽוּא׃

KJV ⁶ Moreover he said, I am the God of thy father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. And Moses hid his face; for he was afraid to look upon God.

LSG ⁶ Et il ajouta: Je suis le Dieu de ton père, le Dieu d'Abraham, le Dieu d'Isaac et le Dieu de Jacob. Moïse se cacha le visage, car il craignait de regarder Dieu.

VULC ⁶ Et ait : Ego sum Deus patris tui, Deus Abraham, Deus Isaac et Deus Jacob. Abscondit Moyses faciem suam : non enim audebat aspicere contra Deum.

WLC ⁶ וַיֹּ֗אמֶר אָנֹכִי֙ אֱלֹהֵ֣י אָבִ֔יךָ אֱלֹהֵ֧י אַבְרָהָ֛ם אֱלֹהֵ֥י יִצְחָ֖ק וֵאלֹהֵ֣י יַעֲקֹ֑ב וַיַּסְתֵּ֤ר מֹשֶׁה֙ פָּנָ֔יו כִּ֣י יָרֵ֔א מֵהַבִּ֖יט אֶל־ הָאֱלֹהִֽים׃

KJV ⁷ And the LORD said, I have surely seen the affliction of my people which are in Egypt, and have heard their cry by reason of their taskmasters; for I know their sorrows;

LSG ⁷ L'Éternel dit: J'ai vu la souffrance de mon peuple qui est en Égypte, et j'ai entendu les cris que lui font pousser ses oppresseurs, car je connais ses douleurs.

VULC ⁷ Cui ait Dominus : Vidi afflictionem populi mei in Ægypto, et clamorem ejus audivi propter duritiam eorum qui præsunt operibus :

WLC ⁷ וַיֹּ֣אמֶר יְהוָ֔ה רָאֹ֥ה רָאִ֛יתִי אֶת־ עֳנִ֥י עַמִּ֖י אֲשֶׁ֣ר בְּמִצְרָ֑יִם וְאֶת־ צַעֲקָתָ֤ם שָׁמַ֙עְתִּי֙ מִפְּנֵ֣י נֹֽגְשָׂ֔יו כִּ֥י יָדַ֖עְתִּי אֶת־ מַכְאֹבָֽיו׃

KJV ⁸ And I am come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring them up out of that land unto a good land and a large, unto a land flowing with milk and honey; unto the place of the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites.

LSG ⁸ Je suis descendu pour le délivrer de la main des Égyptiens, et pour le faire monter de ce pays dans un bon et vaste pays, dans un pays où coulent le lait et le miel, dans les lieux qu'habitent les Cananéens, les Héthiens, les Amoréens, les Phéréziens, les Héviens et les Jébusiens.

VULC ⁸ et sciens dolorem ejus, descendi ut liberem eum de manibus Ægyptiorum, et educam de terra illa in terram bonam, et spatiosam, in terram quæ fluit lacte et melle, ad loca Chananæi et Hethæi, et Amorrhæi, et Pherezæi, et Hevæi, et Jebusæi.

WLC ⁸ וָאֵרֵ֞ד לְהַצִּיל֣וֹ ׀ מִיַּ֣ד מִצְרַ֗יִם וּֽלְהַעֲלֹתוֹ֮ מִן־ הָאָ֣רֶץ הַהִוא֒ אֶל־ אֶ֤רֶץ טוֹבָה֙ וּרְחָבָ֔ה אֶל־ אֶ֛רֶץ זָבַ֥ת חָלָ֖ב וּדְבָ֑שׁ אֶל־ מְק֤וֹם הַֽכְּנַעֲנִי֙ וְהַ֣חִתִּ֔י וְהָֽאֱמֹרִי֙ וְהַפְּרִזִּ֔י וְהַחִוִּ֖י וְהַיְבוּסִֽי׃

KJV ⁹ Now therefore, behold, the cry of the children of Israel is come unto me: and I have also seen the oppression wherewith the Egyptians oppress them.

LSG ⁹ Voici, les cris d'Israël sont venus jusqu'à moi, et j'ai vu l'oppression que leur font souffrir les Égyptiens.

VULC ⁹ Clamor ergo filiorum Israël venit ad me : vidique afflictionem eorum, qua ab Ægyptiis opprimuntur.

WLC ⁹ וְעַתָּ֕ה הִנֵּ֛ה צַעֲקַ֥ת בְּנֵי־ יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל בָּ֣אָה אֵלָ֑י וְגַם־ רָאִ֙יתִי֙ אֶת־ הַלַּ֔חַץ אֲשֶׁ֥ר מִצְרַ֖יִם לֹחֲצִ֥ים אֹתָֽם׃

KJV ¹⁰ Come now therefore, and I will send thee unto Pharaoh, that thou mayest bring forth my people the children of Israel out of Egypt.

LSG ¹⁰ Maintenant, va, je t'enverrai auprès de Pharaon, et tu feras sortir d'Égypte mon peuple, les enfants d'Israël.

VULC ¹⁰ Sed veni, et mittam te ad Pharaonem, ut educas populum meum, filios Israël, de Ægypto.

WLC ¹⁰ וְעַתָּ֣ה לְכָ֔ה וְאֶֽשְׁלָחֲךָ֖ אֶל־ פַּרְעֹ֑ה וְהוֹצֵ֛א אֶת־ עַמִּ֥י בְנֵֽי־ יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל מִמִּצְרָֽיִם׃

KJV ¹¹ And Moses said unto God, Who am I, that I should go unto Pharaoh, and that I should bring forth the children of Israel out of Egypt?

LSG ¹¹ Moïse dit à Dieu: Qui suis-je, pour aller vers Pharaon, et pour faire sortir d'Égypte les enfants d'Israël ?

VULC ¹¹ Dixitque Moyses ad Deum : Quis sum ego ut vadam ad Pharaonem, et educam filios Israël de Ægypto ?

WLC ¹¹ וַיֹּ֤אמֶר מֹשֶׁה֙ אֶל־ הָ֣אֱלֹהִ֔ים מִ֣י אָנֹ֔כִי כִּ֥י אֵלֵ֖ךְ אֶל־ פַּרְעֹ֑ה וְכִ֥י אוֹצִ֛יא אֶת־ בְּנֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל מִמִּצְרָֽיִם׃

KJV ¹² And he said, Certainly I will be with thee; and this shall be a token unto thee, that I have sent thee: When thou hast brought forth the people out of Egypt, ye shall serve God upon this mountain.

LSG ¹² Dieu dit: Je serai avec toi ; et ceci sera pour toi le signe que c'est moi qui t'envoie: quand tu auras fait sortir d'Égypte le peuple, vous servirez Dieu sur cette montagne.

VULC ¹² Qui dixit ei : Ego ero tecum : et hoc habebis signum, quod miserim te : cum eduxeris populum meum de Ægypto, immolabis Deo super montem istum.

WLC ¹² וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ כִּֽי־ אֶֽהְיֶ֣ה עִמָּ֔ךְ וְזֶה־ לְּךָ֣ הָא֔וֹת כִּ֥י אָנֹכִ֖י שְׁלַחְתִּ֑יךָ בְּהוֹצִֽיאֲךָ֤ אֶת־ הָעָם֙ מִמִּצְרַ֔יִם תַּֽעַבְדוּן֙ אֶת־ הָ֣אֱלֹהִ֔ים עַ֖ל הָהָ֥ר הַזֶּֽה׃

LSG ¹³ Moïse dit à Dieu: J'irai donc vers les enfants d'Israël, et je leur dirai: Le Dieu de vos pères m'envoie vers vous. Mais, s'ils me demandent quel est son nom, que leur répondrai-je ?

KJV ¹⁴ And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.

LSG ¹⁴ Dieu dit à Moïse: Je suis celui qui suis. Et il ajouta: C'est ainsi que tu répondras aux enfants d'Israël: Celui qui s'appelle "je suis" m'a envoyé vers vous.

VULC ¹⁴ Dixit Deus ad Moysen : Ego sum qui sum. Ait : Sic dices filiis Israël : Qui est, misit me ad vos.

LSG ¹⁸ Ils écouteront ta voix ; et tu iras, toi et les anciens d'Israël, auprès du roi d'Égypte, et vous lui direz: L'Éternel, le Dieu des Hébreux, nous est apparu. Permets-nous de faire trois journées de marche dans le désert, pour offrir des sacrifices à l'Éternel, notre Dieu.

KJV ¹⁹ And I am sure that the king of Egypt will not let you go, no, not by a mighty hand.

KJV ²⁰ And I will stretch out my hand, and smite Egypt with all my wonders which I will do in the midst thereof: and after that he will let you go.

KJV ²¹ And I will give this people favour in the sight of the Egyptians: and it shall come to pass, that, when ye go, ye shall not go empty.

KJV ²² But every woman shall borrow of her neighbour, and of her that sojourneth in her house, jewels of silver, and jewels of gold, and raiment: and ye shall put them upon your sons, and upon your daughters; and ye shall spoil the Egyptians.

LSG ²² Chaque femme demandera à sa voisine et à celle qui demeure dans sa maison des vases d'argent, des vases d'or, et des vêtements, que vous mettrez sur vos fils et vos filles. Et vous dépouillerez les Égyptiens.

VULC ²² sed postulabit mulier a vicina sua et ab hospita sua, vasa argentea et aurea, ac vestes : ponetisque eas super filios et filias vestras, et spoliabitis Ægyptum.

KJV ¹ And Moses answered and said, But, behold, they will not believe me, nor hearken unto my voice: for they will say, The LORD hath not appeared unto thee.

LSG ¹ Moïse répondit, et dit: Voici, ils ne me croiront point, et ils n'écouteront point ma voix. Mais ils diront: L'Éternel ne t'est point apparu.

VULC ¹ Respondens Moyses ait : Non credent mihi, neque audient vocem meam, sed dicent : Non apparuit tibi Dominus.

KJV ² And the LORD said unto him, What is that in thine hand? And he said, A rod.

KJV ³ And he said, Cast it on the ground. And he cast it on the ground, and it became a serpent; and Moses fled from before it.

LSG ³ L'Éternel dit: Jette-la par terre. Il la jeta par terre, et elle devint un serpent. Moïse fuyait devant lui.

KJV ⁴ And the LORD said unto Moses, Put forth thine hand, and take it by the tail. And he put forth his hand, and caught it, and it became a rod in his hand:

WLC ⁴ וַיֹּ֤אמֶר יְהוָה֙ אֶל־ מֹשֶׁ֔ה שְׁלַח֙ יָֽדְךָ֔ וֶאֱחֹ֖ז בִּזְנָב֑וֹ וַיִּשְׁלַ֤ח יָדוֹ֙ וַיַּ֣חֲזֶק בּ֔וֹ וַיְהִ֥י לְמַטֶּ֖ה בְּכַפּֽוֹ׃

KJV ⁵ That they may believe that the LORD God of their fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath appeared unto thee.

LSG ⁵ C'est là, dit l'Éternel, ce que tu feras, afin qu'ils croient que l'Éternel, le Dieu de leurs pères, t'est apparu, le Dieu d'Abraham, le Dieu d'Isaac et le Dieu de Jacob.

KJV ⁷ And he said, Put thine hand into thy bosom again. And he put his hand into his bosom again; and plucked it out of his bosom, and, behold, it was turned again as his other flesh.

LSG ⁷ L'Éternel dit: Remets ta main dans ton sein. Il remit sa main dans son sein ; puis il la retira de son sein, et voici, elle était redevenue comme sa chair.

VULC ⁷ Retrahe, ait, manum tuam in sinum tuum. Retraxit, et protulit iterum, et erat similis carni reliquæ.

WLC ⁷ וַיֹּ֗אמֶר הָשֵׁ֤ב יָֽדְךָ֙ אֶל־ חֵיקֶ֔ךָ וַיָּ֥שֶׁב יָד֖וֹ אֶל־ חֵיק֑וֹ וַיּֽוֹצִאָהּ֙ מֵֽחֵיק֔וֹ וְהִנֵּה־ שָׁ֖בָה כִּבְשָׂרֽוֹ׃

KJV ⁸ And it shall come to pass, if they will not believe thee, neither hearken to the voice of the first sign, that they will believe the voice of the latter sign.

LSG ⁸ S'ils ne te croient pas, dit l'Éternel, et n'écoutent pas la voix du premier signe, ils croiront à la voix du dernier signe.

VULC ⁸ Si non crediderint, inquit, tibi, neque audierint sermonem signi prioris, credent verbo signi sequentis.

WLC ⁸ וְהָיָה֙ אִם־ לֹ֣א יַאֲמִ֣ינוּ לָ֔ךְ וְלֹ֣א יִשְׁמְע֔וּ לְקֹ֖ל הָאֹ֣ת הָרִאשׁ֑וֹן וְהֶֽאֱמִ֔ינוּ לְקֹ֖ל הָאֹ֥ת הָאַחֲרֽוֹן׃

KJV ⁹ And it shall come to pass, if they will not believe also these two signs, neither hearken unto thy voice, that thou shalt take of the water of the river, and pour it upon the dry land: and the water which thou takest out of the river shall become blood upon the dry land.

LSG ⁹ S'ils ne croient pas même à ces deux signes, et n'écoutent pas ta voix, tu prendras de l'eau du fleuve, tu la répandras sur la terre, et l'eau que tu auras prise du fleuve deviendra du sang sur la terre.

VULC ⁹ Quod si nec duobus quidem his signis crediderint, neque audierint vocem tuam : sume aquam fluminis, et effunde eam super aridam, et quidquid hauseris de fluvio, vertetur in sanguinem.

KJV ¹⁰ And Moses said unto the LORD, O my LORD, I am not eloquent, neither heretofore, nor since thou hast spoken unto thy servant: but I am slow of speech, and of a slow tongue.

LSG ¹⁰ Moïse dit à l'Éternel: Ah ! Seigneur, je ne suis pas un homme qui ait la parole facile, et ce n'est ni d'hier ni d'avant-hier, ni même depuis que tu parles à ton serviteur ; car j'ai la bouche et la langue embarrassées.

VULC ¹⁰ Ait Moyses : Obsecro, Domine, non sum eloquens ab heri et nudiustertius : et ex quo locutus es ad servum tuum, impeditioris et tardioris linguæ sum.

WLC ¹⁰ וַיֹּ֨אמֶר מֹשֶׁ֣ה אֶל־ יְהוָה֮ בִּ֣י אֲדֹנָי֒ לֹא֩ אִ֨ישׁ דְּבָרִ֜ים אָנֹ֗כִי גַּ֤ם מִתְּמוֹל֙ גַּ֣ם מִשִּׁלְשֹׁ֔ם גַּ֛ם מֵאָ֥ז דַּבֶּרְךָ אֶל־ עַבְדֶּ֑ךָ כִּ֧י כְבַד־ פֶּ֛ה וּכְבַ֥ד לָשׁ֖וֹן אָנֹֽכִי׃

KJV ¹¹ And the LORD said unto him, Who hath made man's mouth? or who maketh the dumb, or deaf, or the seeing, or the blind? have not I the LORD?

LSG ¹¹ L'Éternel lui dit: Qui a fait la bouche de l'homme ? et qui rend muet ou sourd, voyant ou aveugle ? N'est-ce pas moi, l'Éternel ?

VULC ¹¹ Dixit Dominus ad eum : Quis fecit os hominis ? aut quis fabricatus est mutum et surdum, videntem et cæcum ? nonne ego ?

KJV ¹² Now therefore go, and I will be with thy mouth, and teach thee what thou shalt say.

KJV ¹³ And he said, O my LORD, send, I pray thee, by the hand of him whom thou wilt send.

KJV ¹⁴ And the anger of the LORD was kindled against Moses, and he said, Is not Aaron the Levite thy brother? I know that he can speak well. And also, behold, he cometh forth to meet thee: and when he seeth thee, he will be glad in his heart.

LSG ¹⁴ Alors la colère de l'Éternel s'enflamma contre Moïse, et il dit: N'y a t-il pas ton frère Aaron, le Lévite ? Je sais qu'il parlera facilement. Le voici lui-même, qui vient au-devant de toi ; et, quand il te verra, il se réjouira dans son coeur.

VULC ¹⁴ Iratus Dominus in Moysen, ait : Aaron frater tuus Levites, scio quod eloquens sit : ecce ipse egreditur in occursum tuum, vidensque te lætabitur corde.

KJV ¹⁵ And thou shalt speak unto him, and put words in his mouth: and I will be with thy mouth, and with his mouth, and will teach you what ye shall do.

WLC ²⁵ וַתִּקַּ֨ח צִפֹּרָ֜ה צֹ֗ר וַתִּכְרֹת֙ אֶת־ עָרְלַ֣ת בְּנָ֔הּ וַתַּגַּ֖ע לְרַגְלָ֑יו וַתֹּ֕אמֶר כִּ֧י חֲתַן־ דָּמִ֛ים אַתָּ֖ה לִֽי׃

KJV ²⁶ So he let him go: then she said, A bloody husband thou art, because of the circumcision.

KJV ²⁷ And the LORD said to Aaron, Go into the wilderness to meet Moses. And he went, and met him in the mount of God, and kissed him.

KJV ³¹ And the people believed: and when they heard that the LORD had visited the children of Israel, and that he had looked upon their affliction, then they bowed their heads and worshipped.

KJV ³ And they said, The God of the Hebrews hath met with us: let us go, we pray thee, three days' journey into the desert, and sacrifice unto the LORD our God; lest he fall upon us with pestilence, or with the sword.

LSG ³ Ils dirent: Le Dieu des Hébreux nous est apparu. Permets-nous de faire trois journées de marche dans le désert, pour offrir des sacrifices à l'Éternel, afin qu'il ne nous frappe pas de la peste ou de l'épée.

WLC ³ וַיֹּ֣אמְר֔וּ אֱלֹהֵ֥י הָעִבְרִ֖ים נִקְרָ֣א עָלֵ֑ינוּ נֵ֣לֲכָה נָּ֡א דֶּרֶךְ֩ שְׁלֹ֨שֶׁת יָמִ֜ים בַּמִּדְבָּ֗ר וְנִזְבְּחָה֙ לַֽיהוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֵ֔ינוּ פֶּ֨ן־ יִפְגָּעֵ֔נוּ בַּדֶּ֖בֶר א֥וֹ בֶחָֽרֶב׃

KJV ⁴ And the king of Egypt said unto them, Wherefore do ye, Moses and Aaron, let the people from their works? get you unto your burdens.

KJV ⁵ And Pharaoh said, Behold, the people of the land now are many, and ye make them rest from their burdens.

KJV ⁷ Ye shall no more give the people straw to make brick, as heretofore: let them go and gather straw for themselves.

LSG ⁷ Vous ne donnerez plus comme auparavant de la paille au peuple pour faire des briques ; qu'ils aillent eux-mêmes ramasser de la paille.

VULC ⁷ Nequaquam ultra dabitis paleas populo ad conficiendos lateres, sicut prius : sed ipsi vadant, et colligant stipulas.

WLC ⁷ לֹ֣א תֹאסִפ֞וּן לָתֵ֨ת תֶּ֧בֶן לָעָ֛ם לִלְבֹּ֥ן הַלְּבֵנִ֖ים כִּתְמ֣וֹל שִׁלְשֹׁ֑ם הֵ֚ם יֵֽלְכ֔וּ וְקֹשְׁשׁ֥וּ לָהֶ֖ם תֶּֽבֶן׃

KJV ⁸ And the tale of the bricks, which they did make heretofore, ye shall lay upon them; ye shall not diminish ought thereof: for they be idle; therefore they cry, saying, Let us go and sacrifice to our God.

LSG ⁸ Vous leur imposerez néanmoins la quantité de briques qu'ils faisaient auparavant, vous n'en retrancherez rien ; car ce sont des paresseux ; voilà pourquoi ils crient, en disant: Allons offrir des sacrifices à notre Dieu !

VULC ⁸ Et mensuram laterum, quam prius faciebant, imponetis super eos, nec minuetis quidquam : vacant enim, et idcirco vociferantur, dicentes : Eamus, et sacrificemus Deo nostro.

WLC ⁸ וְאֶת־ מַתְכֹּ֨נֶת הַלְּבֵנִ֜ים אֲשֶׁ֣ר הֵם֩ עֹשִׂ֨ים תְּמ֤וֹל שִׁלְשֹׁם֙ תָּשִׂ֣ימוּ עֲלֵיהֶ֔ם לֹ֥א תִגְרְע֖וּ מִמֶּ֑נּוּ כִּֽי־ נִרְפִּ֣ים הֵ֔ם עַל־ כֵּ֗ן הֵ֤ם צֹֽעֲקִים֙ לֵאמֹ֔ר נֵלְכָ֖ה נִזְבְּחָ֥ה לֵאלֹהֵֽינוּ׃

KJV ⁹ Let there more work be laid upon the men, that they may labour therein; and let them not regard vain words.

KJV ¹⁰ And the taskmasters of the people went out, and their officers, and they spake to the people, saying, Thus saith Pharaoh, I will not give you straw.

WLC ¹⁰ וַיֵּ֨צְא֜וּ נֹגְשֵׂ֤י הָעָם֙ וְשֹׁ֣טְרָ֔יו וַיֹּאמְר֥וּ אֶל־ הָעָ֖ם לֵאמֹ֑ר כֹּ֚ה אָמַ֣ר פַּרְעֹ֔ה אֵינֶ֛נִּי נֹתֵ֥ן לָכֶ֖ם תֶּֽבֶן׃

KJV ¹¹ Go ye, get you straw where ye can find it: yet not ought of your work shall be diminished.

LSG ¹¹ allez vous-mêmes vous procurer de la paille où vous en trouverez, car l'on ne retranche rien de votre travail.

VULC ¹¹ ite, et colligite sicubi invenire poteritis, nec minuetur quidquam de opere vestro.

WLC ¹¹ אַתֶּ֗ם לְכ֨וּ קְח֤וּ לָכֶם֙ תֶּ֔בֶן מֵאֲשֶׁ֖ר תִּמְצָ֑אוּ כִּ֣י אֵ֥ין נִגְרָ֛ע מֵעֲבֹדַתְכֶ֖ם דָּבָֽר׃

KJV ¹² So the people were scattered abroad throughout all the land of Egypt to gather stubble instead of straw.

LSG ¹² Le peuple se répandit dans tout le pays d'Égypte, pour ramasser du chaume au lieu de paille.

VULC ¹² Dispersusque est populus per omnem terram Ægypti ad colligendas paleas.

WLC ¹² וַיָּ֥פֶץ הָעָ֖ם בְּכָל־ אֶ֣רֶץ מִצְרָ֑יִם לְקֹשֵׁ֥שׁ קַ֖שׁ לַתֶּֽבֶן׃

KJV ¹³ And the taskmasters hasted them, saying, Fulfil your works, your daily tasks, as when there was straw.

LSG ¹³ Les inspecteurs les pressaient, en disant: Achevez votre tâche, jour par jour, comme quand il y avait de la paille.

VULC ¹³ Præfecti quoque operum instabant, dicentes : Complete opus vestrum quotidie, ut prius facere solebatis quando dabantur vobis paleæ.

WLC ¹³ וְהַנֹּגְשִׂ֖ים אָצִ֣ים לֵאמֹ֑ר כַּלּ֤וּ מַעֲשֵׂיכֶם֙ דְּבַר־ י֣וֹם בְּיוֹמ֔וֹ כַּאֲשֶׁ֖ר בִּהְי֥וֹת הַתֶּֽבֶן׃

KJV ¹⁴ And the officers of the children of Israel, which Pharaoh's taskmasters had set over them, were beaten, and demanded, Wherefore have ye not fulfilled your task in making brick both yesterday and to day, as heretofore?

LSG ¹⁴ On battit même les commissaires des enfants d'Israël, établis sur eux par les inspecteurs de Pharaon: Pourquoi, disait-on, n'avez-vous pas achevé hier et aujourd'hui, comme auparavant, la quantité de briques qui vous avait été fixée ?

VULC ¹⁴ Flagellatique sunt qui præerant operibus filiorum Israël, ab exactoribus Pharaonis, dicentibus : Quare non impletis mensuram laterum sicut prius, nec heri, nec hodie ?

WLC ¹⁴ וַיֻּכּ֗וּ שֹֽׁטְרֵי֙ בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל אֲשֶׁר־ שָׂ֣מוּ עֲלֵהֶ֔ם נֹגְשֵׂ֥י פַרְעֹ֖ה לֵאמֹ֑ר מַדּ֡וּעַ לֹא֩ כִלִּיתֶ֨ם חָקְכֶ֤ם לִלְבֹּן֙ כִּתְמ֣וֹל שִׁלְשֹׁ֔ם גַּם־ תְּמ֖וֹל גַּם־ הַיּֽוֹם׃

KJV ¹⁵ Then the officers of the children of Israel came and cried unto Pharaoh, saying, Wherefore dealest thou thus with thy servants?

LSG ¹⁵ Les commissaires des enfants d'Israël allèrent se plaindre à Pharaon, et lui dirent: Pourquoi traites-tu ainsi tes serviteurs ?

VULC ¹⁵ Veneruntque præpositi filiorum Israël, et vociferati sunt ad Pharaonem dicentes : Cur ita agis contra servos tuos ?

WLC ¹⁵ וַיָּבֹ֗אוּ שֹֽׁטְרֵי֙ בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל וַיִּצְעֲק֥וּ אֶל־ פַּרְעֹ֖ה לֵאמֹ֑ר לָ֧מָּה תַעֲשֶׂ֦ה כֹ֖ה לַעֲבָדֶֽיךָ׃

KJV ¹⁶ There is no straw given unto thy servants, and they say to us, Make brick: and, behold, thy servants are beaten; but the fault is in thine own people.

LSG ¹⁶ On ne donne point de paille à tes serviteurs, et l'on nous dit: Faites des briques ! Et voici, tes serviteurs sont battus, comme si ton peuple était coupable.

VULC ¹⁶ paleæ non dantur nobis, et lateres similiter imperantur : en famuli tui flagellis cædimur, et injuste agitur contra populum tuum.

WLC ¹⁶ תֶּ֗בֶן אֵ֤ין נִתָּן֙ לַעֲבָדֶ֔יךָ וּלְבֵנִ֛ים אֹמְרִ֥ים לָ֖נוּ עֲשׂ֑וּ וְהִנֵּ֧ה עֲבָדֶ֛יךָ מֻכִּ֖ים וְחָטָ֥את עַמֶּֽךָ׃

KJV ¹⁷ But he said, Ye are idle, ye are idle: therefore ye say, Let us go and do sacrifice to the LORD.

LSG ¹⁷ Pharaon répondit: Vous êtes des paresseux, des paresseux ! Voilà pourquoi vous dites: Allons offrir des sacrifices à l'Éternel !

VULC ¹⁷ Qui ait : Vacatis otio, et idcirco dicitis : Eamus, et sacrificemus Domino.

KJV ¹⁸ Go therefore now, and work; for there shall no straw be given you, yet shall ye deliver the tale of bricks.

KJV ¹⁹ And the officers of the children of Israel did see that they were in evil case, after it was said, Ye shall not minish ought from your bricks of your daily task.

LSG ¹⁹ Les commissaires des enfants d'Israël virent qu'on les rendait malheureux, en disant: Vous ne retrancherez rien de vos briques ; chaque jour la tâche du jour.

WLC ¹⁹ וַיִּרְא֞וּ שֹֽׁטְרֵ֧י בְנֵֽי־ יִשְׂרָאֵ֛ל אֹתָ֖ם בְּרָ֣ע לֵאמֹ֑ר לֹא־ תִגְרְע֥וּ מִלִּבְנֵיכֶ֖ם דְּבַר־ י֥וֹם בְּיוֹמֽוֹ׃

KJV ²⁰ And they met Moses and Aaron, who stood in the way, as they came forth from Pharaoh:

LSG ²⁰ En sortant de chez Pharaon, ils rencontrèrent Moïse et Aaron qui les attendaient.

VULC ²⁰ Occurreruntque Moysi et Aaron, qui stabant ex adverso, egredientibus a Pharaone :

WLC ²⁰ וַֽיִּפְגְּעוּ֙ אֶת־ מֹשֶׁ֣ה וְאֶֽת־ אַהֲרֹ֔ן נִצָּבִ֖ים לִקְרָאתָ֑ם בְּצֵאתָ֖ם מֵאֵ֥ת פַּרְעֹֽה׃

KJV ²¹ And they said unto them, The LORD look upon you, and judge; because ye have made our savour to be abhorred in the eyes of Pharaoh, and in the eyes of his servants, to put a sword in their hand to slay us.

LSG ²¹ Ils leur dirent: Que l'Éternel vous regarde, et qu'il juge ! Vous nous avez rendus odieux à Pharaon et à ses serviteurs, vous avez mis une épée dans leurs mains pour nous faire périr.

VULC ²¹ et dixerunt ad eos : Videat Dominus et judicet, quoniam fœtere fecistis odorem nostrum coram Pharaone et servis ejus, et præbuistis ei gladium, ut occideret nos.

WLC ²¹ וַיֹּאמְר֣וּ אֲלֵהֶ֔ם יֵ֧רֶא יְהוָ֛ה עֲלֵיכֶ֖ם וְיִשְׁפֹּ֑ט אֲשֶׁ֧ר הִבְאַשְׁתֶּ֣ם אֶת־ רֵיחֵ֗נוּ בְּעֵינֵ֤י פַרְעֹה֙ וּבְעֵינֵ֣י עֲבָדָ֔יו לָֽתֶת־ חֶ֥רֶב בְּיָדָ֖ם לְהָרְגֵֽנוּ׃

KJV ²² And Moses returned unto the LORD, and said, LORD, wherefore hast thou so evil entreated this people? why is it that thou hast sent me?

LSG ²² Moïse retourna vers l'Éternel, et dit: Seigneur, pourquoi as-tu fait du mal à ce peuple ? pourquoi m'as-tu envoyé ?

VULC ²² Reversusque est Moyses ad Dominum, et ait : Domine, cur afflixisti populum istum ? quare misisti me ?

WLC ²² וַיָּ֧שָׁב מֹשֶׁ֛ה אֶל־ יְהוָ֖ה וַיֹּאמַ֑ר אֲדֹנָ֗י לָמָ֤ה הֲרֵעֹ֙תָה֙ לָעָ֣ם הַזֶּ֔ה לָ֥מָּה זֶּ֖ה שְׁלַחְתָּֽנִי׃

KJV ²³ For since I came to Pharaoh to speak in thy name, he hath done evil to this people; neither hast thou delivered thy people at all.

LSG ²³ Depuis que je suis allé vers Pharaon pour parler en ton nom, il fait du mal à ce peuple, et tu n'as point délivré ton peuple.

VULC ²³ ex eo enim quo ingressus sum ad Pharaonem ut loquerer in nomine tuo, afflixit populum tuum : et non liberasti eos.

WLC ²³ וּמֵאָ֞ז בָּ֤אתִי אֶל־ פַּרְעֹה֙ לְדַבֵּ֣ר בִּשְׁמֶ֔ךָ הֵרַ֖ע לָעָ֣ם הַזֶּ֑ה וְהַצֵּ֥ל לֹא־ הִצַּ֖לְתָּ אֶת־ עַמֶּֽךָ׃
