²⁹ Au milieu de la nuit, Yahweh frappa tous les premiers-nés dans le pays d'Égypte, depuis le premier-né de Pharaon assis sur son trône, jusqu'au premier-né du captif dans sa prison, et à tous les premiers-nés des animaux. ³⁰ Pharaon se leva pendant la nuit, lui et tous ses serviteurs, et tous les Égyptiens, et il y eut une grande clameur en Égypte, car il n'y avait point de maison où il n'y eût un mort. ³¹ Dans la nuit même, Pharaon appela Moïse et Aaron, et leur dit : "Levez-vous, sortez du milieu de mon peuple, vous et les enfants d'Israël, et allez servir Yahweh, comme vous l'avez dit. ³² Prenez vos brebis et vos boeufs, comme vous l'avez dit ; ³³ allez, et bénissez-moi." Les Égyptiens pressaient vivement le peuple, ayant hâte de le renvoyer du pays, car ils disaient : "Nous sommes tous morts !" ³⁴ Le peuple emporta sa pâte avant qu'elle fût levée ; Ayant serré dans leurs manteaux les corbeilles, ils les mirent sur leurs épaules. ³⁵ Les enfants d'Israël firent selon la parole de Moïse ; ils demandèrent aux Égyptiens des objets d'argent, des objets d'or et des vêtements. ³⁶ Et Yahweh avait fait trouver au peuple faveur aux yeux des Égyptiens, qu'ils accueillirent leur demande. Et ils dépouillèrent les Égyptiens.

   ²⁹ And it came to pass, that at midnight the LORD smote all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn of Pharaoh that sat on his throne unto the firstborn of the captive that was in the dungeon; and all the firstborn of cattle. ³⁰ And Pharaoh rose up in the night, he, and all his servants, and all the Egyptians; and there was a great cry in Egypt; for there was not a house where there was not one dead. ³¹ And he called for Moses and Aaron by night, and said, Rise up, and get you forth from among my people, both ye and the children of Israel; and go, serve the LORD, as ye have said. ³² Also take your flocks and your herds, as ye have said, and be gone; and bless me also. ³³ And the Egyptians were urgent upon the people, that they might send them out of the land in haste; for they said, We be all dead men. ³⁴ And the people took their dough before it was leavened, their kneadingtroughs being bound up in their clothes upon their shoulders. ³⁵ And the children of Israel did according to the word of Moses; and they borrowed of the Egyptians jewels of silver, and jewels of gold, and raiment: ³⁶ And the LORD gave the people favour in the sight of the Egyptians, so that they lent unto them such things as they required. And they spoiled the Egyptians.

   ²⁹ Factum est autem in noctis medio, percussit Dominus omne primogenitum in terra Ægypti, a primogenito Pharaonis, qui in solio ejus sedebat, usque ad primogenitum captivæ quæ erat in carcere, et omne primogenitum jumentorum.
   ³⁰ Surrexitque Pharao nocte, et omnes servi ejus, cunctaque Ægyptus : et ortus est clamor magnus in Ægypto : neque enim erat domus in qua non jaceret mortuus.
   ³¹ Vocatisque Pharao Moyse et Aaron nocte, ait : Surgite et egredimini a populo meo, vos et filii Israël : ite, immolate Domino sicut dicitis.
   ³² Oves vestras et armenta assumite ut petieratis, et abeuntes benedicite mihi.
   ³³ Urgebantque Ægyptii populum de terra exire velociter, dicentes : Omnes moriemur.
   ³⁴ Tulit igitur populus conspersam farinam antequam fermentaretur : et ligans in palliis, posuit super humeros suos.
   ³⁵ Feceruntque filii Israël sicut præceperat Moyses : et petierunt ab Ægyptiis vasa argentea et aurea, vestemque plurimam.
   ³⁶ Dominus autem dedit gratiam populo coram Ægyptiis ut commodarent eis : et spoliaverunt Ægyptios.
