Ex 18:1-12 (Annotée Neuchâtel)

   ¹ Jéthro, sacrificateur de Madian, beau-père de Moïse, apprit tout ce que Dieu avait fait pour Moïse et pour Israël son peuple : que l'Eternel avait fait sortir Israël d'Egypte. ² Alors Jéthro, beau-père de Moïse, prit Séphora, femme de Moïse, qu'il avait renvoyée, ³ et les deux fils de celle-ci, dont l'un se nommait Guersom, parce que Moïse avait dit : J'ai été habitant d'une terre étrangère, ⁴ et dont l'autre se nommait Eliézer, parce que, avait-il dit, le Dieu de mon père est venu à mon secours et m'a arraché à l'épée de Pharaon. ⁵ Et Jéthro, beau-père de Moïse, avec les fils et la femme de celui-ci, alla vers lui au désert où il campait, en la montagne de Dieu, ⁶ et il fit dire à Moïse : Moi, ton beau-père, Jéthro, je viens vers toi, ainsi que ta femme et ses deux fils avec elle.
   ⁷ Et Moïse sortit au-devant de son beau-père, se prosterna et l'embrassa ; ils se demandèrent l'un à l'autre comment ils allaient, puis ils entrèrent dans la tente. ⁸ Alors Moïse raconta à son beau-père tout ce que l'Eternel avait fait à Pharaon et aux Egyptiens à cause d'Israël, et toutes les peines qui leur étaient survenues en chemin et comment l'Eternel les en avait tirés. ⁹ Et Jéthro se réjouit de tout le bien que l'Eternel avait fait à Israël, qu'il avait tiré de la main des Egyptiens, ¹⁰ et il dit : Béni soit l'Eternel, qui vous a tirés de la main des Egyptiens et de la main de Pharaon ! qui a soustrait le peuple à la domination des Egyptiens ! ¹¹ Maintenant je sais que l'Eternel est plus grand que tous les dieux, car il a été grand alors que les Egyptiens se sont élevés tyranniquement contre Israël. ¹² Et Jéthro, beau-père de Moïse, offrit à Dieu un holocauste et des sacrifices, et Aaron et tous les Anciens d'Israël vinrent manger avec le beau-père de Moïse en présence de Dieu.

   ¹ When Jethro, the priest of Midian, Moses' father in law, heard of all that God had done for Moses, and for Israel his people, and that the LORD had brought Israel out of Egypt; ² Then Jethro, Moses' father in law, took Zipporah, Moses' wife, after he had sent her back, ³ And her two sons; of which the name of the one was Gershom; for he said, I have been an alien in a strange land: ⁴ And the name of the other was Eliezer; for the God of my father, said he, was mine help, and delivered me from the sword of Pharaoh: ⁵ And Jethro, Moses' father in law, came with his sons and his wife unto Moses into the wilderness, where he encamped at the mount of God: ⁶ And he said unto Moses, I thy father in law Jethro am come unto thee, and thy wife, and her two sons with her.
   ⁷ And Moses went out to meet his father in law, and did obeisance, and kissed him; and they asked each other of their welfare; and they came into the tent. ⁸ And Moses told his father in law all that the LORD had done unto Pharaoh and to the Egyptians for Israel's sake, and all the travail that had come upon them by the way, and how the LORD delivered them. ⁹ And Jethro rejoiced for all the goodness which the LORD had done to Israel, whom he had delivered out of the hand of the Egyptians. ¹⁰ And Jethro said, Blessed be the LORD, who hath delivered you out of the hand of the Egyptians, and out of the hand of Pharaoh, who hath delivered the people from under the hand of the Egyptians. ¹¹ Now I know that the LORD is greater than all gods: for in the thing wherein they dealt proudly he was above them. ¹² And Jethro, Moses' father in law, took a burnt offering and sacrifices for God: and Aaron came, and all the elders of Israel, to eat bread with Moses' father in law before God.
