¹ Dieu dit à Moïse : "Monte vers Yahweh, toi et Aaron, Nadab et Abiu, et soixante-dix des anciens d'Israël, et prosternez-vous de loin. ² Moïse s'approchera seul de Yahweh ; les autres ne s'approcheront pas, et le peuple ne montera pas avec lui." ³ Moïse vint rapporter au peuple toutes les paroles de Yahweh et toutes les lois ; et le peuple entier répondit d'une seule voix : "Toutes les paroles qu'a dites Yahweh, nous les accomplirons." ⁴ Moïse écrivit toutes les paroles de Yahweh. Puis, s'étant levé de bon matin, il bâtit un autel au pied de la montagne, et dressa douze stèles pour les douze tribus d'Israël. ⁵ Il envoya des jeunes gens, enfants d'Israël, et ils offrirent à Yahweh des holocaustes et immolèrent des taureaux en sacrifices d'actions de grâces. ⁶ Moïse prit la moitié du sang, qu'il mit dans des bassins, et il répandit l'autre moitié sur l'autel. ⁷ Ayant pris le livre de l'alliance, il le lut en présence du peuple, qui répondit : "Tout ce qu'a dit Yahweh, nous le ferons et nous y obéirons." ⁸ Moïse prit le sang et en aspergea le peuple, en disant : "Voici le sang de l'alliance que Yahweh a conclue avec vous sur toutes ces paroles." ⁹ Moïse monta avec Aaron, Nadab et Abiu ¹⁰ et soixante-dix des anciens d'Israël ; et ils virent le Dieu d'Israël : sous ses pieds était comme un ouvrage de brillants saphirs, pur comme le ciel même. ¹¹ Et il n'étendit pas sa main sur les élus des enfants d'Israël : ils virent Dieu, et ils mangèrent et burent.

   ¹ And he said unto Moses, Come up unto the LORD, thou, and Aaron, Nadab, and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel; and worship ye afar off. ² And Moses alone shall come near the LORD: but they shall not come nigh; neither shall the people go up with him. ³ And Moses came and told the people all the words of the LORD, and all the judgments: and all the people answered with one voice, and said, All the words which the LORD hath said will we do. ⁴ And Moses wrote all the words of the LORD, and rose up early in the morning, and builded an altar under the hill, and twelve pillars, according to the twelve tribes of Israel. ⁵ And he sent young men of the children of Israel, which offered burnt offerings, and sacrificed peace offerings of oxen unto the LORD. ⁶ And Moses took half of the blood, and put it in basons; and half of the blood he sprinkled on the altar. ⁷ And he took the book of the covenant, and read in the audience of the people: and they said, All that the LORD hath said will we do, and be obedient. ⁸ And Moses took the blood, and sprinkled it on the people, and said, Behold the blood of the covenant, which the LORD hath made with you concerning all these words.
   ⁹ Then went up Moses, and Aaron, Nadab, and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel: ¹⁰ And they saw the God of Israel: and there was under his feet as it were a paved work of a sapphire stone, and as it were the body of heaven in his clearness. ¹¹ And upon the nobles of the children of Israel he laid not his hand: also they saw God, and did eat and drink.

   ¹ Moysi quoque dixit : Ascende ad Dominum tu, et Aaron, Nadab et Abiu, et septuaginta senes ex Israël, et adorabitis procul.
   ² Solusque Moyses ascendet ad Dominum, et illi non appropinquabunt : nec populus ascendet cum eo.
   ³ Venit ergo Moyses et narravit plebi omnia verba Domini, atque judicia : responditque omnis populus una voce : Omnia verba Domini, quæ locutus est, faciemus.
   ⁴ Scripsit autem Moyses universos sermones Domini : et mane consurgens, ædificavit altare ad radices montis, et duodecim titulos per duodecim tribus Israël.
   ⁵ Misitque juvenes de filiis Israël, et obtulerunt holocausta, immolaveruntque victimas pacificas Domino, vitulos.
   ⁶ Tulit itaque Moyses dimidiam partem sanguinis, et misit in crateras : partem autem residuam fudit super altare.
   ⁷ Assumensque volumen fœderis, legit audiente populo : qui dixerunt : Omnia quæ locutus est Dominus, faciemus, et erimus obedientes.
   ⁸ Ille vero sumptum sanguinem respersit in populum, et ait : Hic est sanguis fœderis quod pepigit Dominus vobiscum super cunctis sermonibus his.
   ⁹ Ascenderuntque Moyses et Aaron, Nadab et Abiu, et septuaginta de senioribus Israël :
   ¹⁰ et viderunt Deum Israël : et sub pedibus ejus quasi opus lapidis sapphirini, et quasi cælum, cum serenum est.
   ¹¹ Nec super eos qui procul recesserant de filiis Israël, misit manum suam, videruntque Deum, et comederunt, ac biberunt.
