Ex 33:12-23 (Darby)

   ¹² Et Moïse dit à l'Éternel : Regarde tu me dis : Fais monter ce peuple ; et tu ne m'as pas fait connaître celui que tu enverras avec moi ; et tu as dit : Je te connais par nom, et tu as aussi trouvé grâce à mes yeux. ¹³ Et maintenant, je te prie, si j'ai trouvé grâce à tes yeux, fais-moi connaître, je te prie, ton chemin*, et je te connaîtrai, afin que je trouve grâce à tes yeux ; et considère que cette nation est ton peuple. ¹⁴ Et [l'Éternel] dit : Ma face ira, et je te donnerai du repos. ¹⁵ Et [Moïse] lui dit : Si ta face ne vient pas, ne nous fais pas monter d'ici ; ¹⁶ car à quoi connaîtra-t-on que j'ai trouvé grâce à tes yeux, moi et ton peuple ? Ne sera-ce pas en ce que tu marcheras avec nous ? Ainsi, moi et ton peuple, nous serons séparés de tout peuple qui est sur la face de la terre. ¹⁷ Et l'Éternel dit à Moïse : Je ferai cela aussi dont tu as parlé ; car tu as trouvé grâce à mes yeux, et je te connais par nom. ¹⁸ Et [Moïse] dit : Fais-moi voir, je te prie, ta gloire. ¹⁹ Et il dit : Je ferai passer toute ma bonté devant ta face, et je crierai le nom de l'Éternel devant toi ; et je ferai grâce à qui je ferai grâce, et je ferai miséricorde à qui je ferai miséricorde. ²⁰ Et il dit : Tu ne peux pas voir ma face, car l'homme ne peut me voir et vivre. ²¹ Et l'Éternel dit : Voici un lieu près de moi, et tu te tiendras sur le rocher ; ²² et il arrivera, quand ma gloire passera, que je te mettrai dans la fente du rocher, et je te couvrirai de ma main jusqu'à ce que je sois passé ; ²³ puis je retirerai ma main, et tu me verras par derrière ; mais ma face ne se verra pas.

   ¹² And Moses said unto the LORD, See, thou sayest unto me, Bring up this people: and thou hast not let me know whom thou wilt send with me. Yet thou hast said, I know thee by name, and thou hast also found grace in my sight. ¹³ Now therefore, I pray thee, if I have found grace in thy sight, shew me now thy way, that I may know thee, that I may find grace in thy sight: and consider that this nation is thy people. ¹⁴ And he said, My presence shall go with thee, and I will give thee rest. ¹⁵ And he said unto him, If thy presence go not with me, carry us not up hence. ¹⁶ For wherein shall it be known here that I and thy people have found grace in thy sight? is it not in that thou goest with us? so shall we be separated, I and thy people, from all the people that are upon the face of the earth. ¹⁷ And the LORD said unto Moses, I will do this thing also that thou hast spoken: for thou hast found grace in my sight, and I know thee by name. ¹⁸ And he said, I beseech thee, shew me thy glory. ¹⁹ And he said, I will make all my goodness pass before thee, and I will proclaim the name of the LORD before thee; and will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will shew mercy on whom I will shew mercy. ²⁰ And he said, Thou canst not see my face: for there shall no man see me, and live. ²¹ And the LORD said, Behold, there is a place by me, and thou shalt stand upon a rock: ²² And it shall come to pass, while my glory passeth by, that I will put thee in a clift of the rock, and will cover thee with my hand while I pass by: ²³ And I will take away mine hand, and thou shalt see my back parts: but my face shall not be seen.

¹² Moïse dit à l'Eternel: «Voici que tu me dis: ‘Fais monter ce peuple!' et tu ne me fais pas connaître qui tu enverras avec moi. Cependant, tu as dit: ‘Je te connais par ton nom et tu as trouvé grâce à mes yeux.' ¹³ Maintenant, si j'ai trouvé grâce à tes yeux, fais-moi connaître tes voies. Alors je te connaîtrai et je pourrai encore trouver grâce à tes yeux. Regarde: cette nation est ton peuple.» ¹⁴ L'Eternel répondit: «Je marcherai moi-même avec toi et je te donnerai du repos.» ¹⁵ Moïse lui dit: «Si tu ne marches pas toi-même avec nous, ne nous fais pas partir d'ici. ¹⁶ Comment sera-t-il donc certain que j'ai trouvé grâce à tes yeux, ainsi que ton peuple? Ne sera-ce pas quand tu marcheras avec nous et quand nous serons différents, moi et ton peuple, de tous les peuples qui sont à la surface de la terre?» ¹⁷ L'Eternel dit à Moïse: «Je ferai aussi ce que tu me demandes là parce que tu as trouvé grâce à mes yeux et que je te connais par ton nom.»
¹⁸ Moïse dit: «Fais-moi donc voir ta gloire!» ¹⁹ L'Eternel répondit: «Je ferai passer devant toi toute ma bonté et je proclamerai devant toi le nom de l'Eternel. *Je fais grâce à qui je veux faire grâce, et j'ai compassion de qui je veux avoir compassion.» ²⁰ Il ajouta: «Tu ne pourras pas voir mon visage, car l'homme ne peut me voir et vivre.» ²¹ L'Eternel dit: «Voici un endroit près de moi. Tu te tiendras sur le rocher. ²² Quand ma gloire passera, je te mettrai dans un creux du rocher et je te couvrirai de ma main jusqu'à ce que je sois passé. ²³ Lorsque j'écarterai ma main, tu me verras par-derrière, mais mon visage ne pourra pas être vu.»
