Jc 2:17-24 (King James)

¹⁷ Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone. ¹⁸ Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works. ¹⁹ Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble. ²⁰ But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead? ²¹ Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar? ²² Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect? ²³ And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God. ²⁴ Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only.

¹⁷ Il en est ainsi de la foi: si elle n'a pas les œuvres, elle est morte en elle-même. ¹⁸ Mais quelqu'un dira: Toi, tu as la foi; et moi, j'ai les œuvres. Montre-moi ta foi sans les œuvres, et moi, je te montrerai la foi par mes œuvres. ¹⁹ Tu crois qu'il y a un seul Dieu, tu fais bien; les démons le croient aussi, et ils tremblent.
²⁰ Veux-tu savoir, ô homme vain, que la foi sans les œuvres est inutile? ²¹ Abraham, notre père, ne fut-il pas justifié par les œuvres, lorsqu'il offrit son fils Isaac sur l'autel? ²² Tu vois que la foi agissait avec ses œuvres, et que par les œuvres la foi fut rendue parfaite. ²³ Ainsi s'accomplit ce que dit l'Ecriture: Abraham crut à Dieu, et cela lui fut imputé à justice; et il fut appelé ami de Dieu. ²⁴ Vous voyez que l'homme est justifié par les œuvres, et non par la foi seulement.
