KJV ¹ The word which came to Jeremiah from the LORD, saying,

VULC ¹ Verbum quod factum est ad Jeremiam a Domino, dicens :

WLC ¹ הַדָּבָר֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר הָיָ֣ה אֶֽל־ יִרְמְיָ֔הוּ מֵאֵ֥ת יְהוָ֖ה לֵאמֹֽר׃

BAN ² Lève-toi et descends à la maison du potier, et là je te ferai entendre mes paroles.

KJV ² Arise, and go down to the potter's house, and there I will cause thee to hear my words.

VULC ² Surge, et descende in domum figuli, et ibi audies verba mea.

WLC ² ק֥וּם וְיָרַדְתָּ֖ בֵּ֣ית הַיּוֹצֵ֑ר וְשָׁ֖מָּה אַשְׁמִֽיעֲךָ֥ אֶת־ דְּבָרָֽי׃

BAN ³ Et je descendis à la maison du potier ; or il faisait son ouvrage sur les roues ;

KJV ³ Then I went down to the potter's house, and, behold, he wrought a work on the wheels.

VULC ³ Et descendi in domum figuli, et ecce ipse faciebat opus super rotam.

WLC ³ וָאֵרֵ֖ד בֵּ֣ית הַיּוֹצֵ֑ר עֹשֶׂ֥ה מְלָאכָ֖ה עַל־ הָאָבְנָֽיִם׃

BAN ⁴ et le vase qu'il faisait manqua, comme il arrive à l'argile dans la main du potier ; et il refit un autre vase, comme il plut au potier de le faire.

KJV ⁴ And the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter: so he made it again another vessel, as seemed good to the potter to make it.

VULC ⁴ Et dissipatum est vas quod ipse faciebat e luto manibus suis : conversusque fecit illud vas alterum, sicut placuerat in oculis ejus ut faceret.

WLC ⁴ וְנִשְׁחַ֣ת הַכְּלִ֗י אֲשֶׁ֨ר ה֥וּא עֹשֶׂ֛ה בַּחֹ֖מֶר בְּיַ֣ד הַיּוֹצֵ֑ר וְשָׁ֗ב וַֽיַּעֲשֵׂ֙הוּ֙ כְּלִ֣י אַחֵ֔ר כַּאֲשֶׁ֥ר יָשַׁ֛ר בְּעֵינֵ֥י הַיּוֹצֵ֖ר לַעֲשֽׂוֹת׃

BAN ⁵ Et la parole de l'Eternel me fut adressée en ces mots :

KJV ⁵ Then the word of the LORD came to me, saying,

VULC ⁵ Et factum est verbum Domini ad me, dicens :

WLC ⁵ וַיְהִ֥י דְבַר־ יְהוָ֖ה אֵלַ֥י לֵאמֽוֹר׃

BAN ⁶ Est-ce que je ne puis pas vous faire comme a fait ce potier, maison d'Israël ? dit l'Eternel ; voici, ce que l'argile est dans la main du potier, vous l'êtes dans ma main, maison d'Israël.

KJV ⁶ O house of Israel, cannot I do with you as this potter? saith the LORD. Behold, as the clay is in the potter's hand, so are ye in mine hand, O house of Israel.

VULC ⁶ [Numquid sicut figulus iste,
non potero vobis facere, domus Israël ? ait Dominus :
ecce sicut lutum in manu figuli,
sic vos in manu mea, domus Israël.

WLC ⁶ הֲכַיּוֹצֵ֨ר הַזֶּ֜ה לֹא־ אוּכַ֨ל לַעֲשׂ֥וֹת לָכֶ֛ם בֵּ֥ית יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל נְאֻם־ יְהוָ֑ה הִנֵּ֤ה כַחֹ֙מֶר֙ בְּיַ֣ד הַיּוֹצֵ֔ר כֵּן־ אַתֶּ֥ם בְּיָדִ֖י בֵּ֥ית יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

BAN ⁷ Tantôt je parle, touchant une nation et un royaume, d'arracher, d'abattre et de détruire ;

KJV ⁷ At what instant I shall speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom, to pluck up, and to pull down, and to destroy it;

VULC ⁷ Repente loquar adversum gentem et adversus regnum,
ut eradicem, et destruam, et disperdam illud :

WLC ⁷ רֶ֣גַע אֲדַבֵּ֔ר עַל־ גּ֖וֹי וְעַל־ מַמְלָכָ֑ה לִנְת֥וֹשׁ וְלִנְת֖וֹץ וּֽלְהַאֲבִֽיד׃

BAN ⁸ mais cette nation, contre laquelle j'ai parlé, revient de sa méchanceté ; alors je me repens du mal que j'avais voulu lui faire.

KJV ⁸ If that nation, against whom I have pronounced, turn from their evil, I will repent of the evil that I thought to do unto them.

VULC ⁸ si pœnitentiam egerit gens illa a malo suo
quod locutus sum adversus eam,
agam et ego pœnitentiam super malo
quod cogitavi ut facerem ei.

WLC ⁸ וְשָׁב֙ הַגּ֣וֹי הַה֔וּא מֵרָ֣עָת֔וֹ אֲשֶׁ֥ר דִּבַּ֖רְתִּי עָלָ֑יו וְנִֽחַמְתִּי֙ עַל־ הָ֣רָעָ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֥ר חָשַׁ֖בְתִּי לַעֲשׂ֥וֹת לֽוֹ׃

BAN ⁹ Tantôt je parle, touchant une nation et un royaume, de bâtir et de planter ;

KJV ⁹ And at what instant I shall speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom, to build and to plant it;

VULC ⁹ Et subito loquar de gente et de regno,
ut ædificem et plantem illud.

WLC ⁹ וְרֶ֣גַע אֲדַבֵּ֔ר עַל־ גּ֖וֹי וְעַל־ מַמְלָכָ֑ה לִבְנֹ֖ת וְלִנְטֹֽעַ׃

BAN ¹⁰ mais elle fait ce qui est mal à mes yeux en n'écoutant point ma voix ; alors je me repens du bien que j'avais dit que je lui ferais.

KJV ¹⁰ If it do evil in my sight, that it obey not my voice, then I will repent of the good, wherewith I said I would benefit them.

VULC ¹⁰ Si fecerit malum in oculis meis,
ut non audiat vocem meam,
pœnitentiam agam super bono quod locutus sum ut facerem ei.

WLC ¹⁰ וְעָשָׂ֤ה בְּעֵינַ֔י לְבִלְתִּ֖י שְׁמֹ֣עַ בְּקוֹלִ֑י וְנִֽחַמְתִּי֙ עַל־ הַטּוֹבָ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֥ר אָמַ֖רְתִּי לְהֵיטִ֥יב אוֹתֽוֹ׃

BAN ¹¹ Et maintenant, parle aux hommes de Juda et aux habitants de Jérusalem, et dis-leur : Ainsi a dit l'Eternel : Voici, je façonne pour vous un malheur, et je médite des projets contre vous ; revenez chacun de sa mauvaise voie, et réformez vos voies et vos oeuvres.

KJV ¹¹ Now therefore go to, speak to the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, saying, Thus saith the LORD; Behold, I frame evil against you, and devise a device against you: return ye now every one from his evil way, and make your ways and your doings good.

VULC ¹¹ Nunc ergo dic viro Juda, et habitatoribus Jerusalem, dicens :
Hæc dicit Dominus :
Ecce ego fingo contra vos malum,
et cogito contra vos cogitationem :
revertatur unusquisque a via sua mala,
et dirigite vias vestras et studia vestra.

WLC ¹¹ וְעַתָּ֡ה אֱמָר־ נָ֣א אֶל־ אִישׁ־ יְהוּדָה֩ וְעַל־ יוֹשְׁבֵ֨י יְרוּשָׁלִַ֜ם לֵאמֹ֗ר כֹּ֚ה אָמַ֣ר יְהוָ֔ה הִנֵּ֨ה אָנֹכִ֜י יוֹצֵ֤ר עֲלֵיכֶם֙ רָעָ֔ה וְחֹשֵׁ֥ב עֲלֵיכֶ֖ם מַֽחֲשָׁבָ֑ה שׁ֣וּבוּ נָ֗א אִ֚ישׁ מִדַּרְכּ֣וֹ הָֽרָעָ֔ה וְהֵיטִ֥יבוּ דַרְכֵיכֶ֖ם וּמַעַלְלֵיכֶֽם׃

BAN ¹² Mais ils disent : Inutile ! Nous suivrons nos pensées, nous agirons chacun suivant l'endurcissement de son mauvais coeur.

KJV ¹² And they said, There is no hope: but we will walk after our own devices, and we will every one do the imagination of his evil heart.

VULC ¹² Qui dixerunt : Desperavimus :
post cogitationes enim nostras ibimus,
et unusquisque pravitatem cordis sui mali faciemus.

WLC ¹² וְאָמְר֖וּ נוֹאָ֑שׁ כִּֽי־ אַחֲרֵ֤י מַחְשְׁבוֹתֵ֙ינוּ֙ נֵלֵ֔ךְ וְאִ֛ישׁ שְׁרִר֥וּת לִבּֽוֹ־ הָרָ֖ע נַעֲשֶֽׂה׃

BAN ¹³ C'est pourquoi, ainsi parle l'Eternel : Informez-vous parmi les nations : qui a jamais entendu pareille chose ? La vierge d'Israël a commis des abominations en grand nombre !

KJV ¹³ Therefore thus saith the LORD; Ask ye now among the heathen, who hath heard such things: the virgin of Israel hath done a very horrible thing.

VULC ¹³ Ideo hæc dicit Dominus :
Interrogate gentes :
Quis audivit talia horribilia,
quæ fecit nimis virgo Israël ?

WLC ¹³ לָכֵ֗ן כֹּ֚ה אָמַ֣ר יְהוָ֔ה שַֽׁאֲלוּ־ נָא֙ בַּגּוֹיִ֔ם מִ֥י שָׁמַ֖ע כָּאֵ֑לֶּה שַֽׁעֲרֻרִת֙ עָשְׂתָ֣ה מְאֹ֔ד בְּתוּלַ֖ת יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

BAN ¹⁴ La neige du Liban quitte-t-elle le rocher du champ ? Les eaux qui-viennent de loin, fraîches, ruisselantes, tarissent-elles ?

KJV ¹⁴ Will a man leave the snow of Lebanon which cometh from the rock of the field? or shall the cold flowing waters that come from another place be forsaken?

VULC ¹⁴ Numquid deficiet de petra agri nix Libani ?
aut evelli possunt aquæ erumpentes frigidæ, et defluentes ?

WLC ¹⁴ הֲיַעֲזֹ֥ב מִצּ֛וּר שָׂדַ֖י שֶׁ֣לֶג לְבָנ֑וֹן אִם־ יִנָּתְשׁ֗וּ מַ֛יִם זָרִ֥ים קָרִ֖ים נוֹזְלִֽים׃

BAN ¹⁵ Or, mon peuple m'a oublié ; ils encensent les idoles, elles les font chanceler dans leurs voies, les chemins d'autrefois, pour suivre des sentiers, une route qui n'est pas frayée ;

KJV ¹⁵ Because my people hath forgotten me, they have burned incense to vanity, and they have caused them to stumble in their ways from the ancient paths, to walk in paths, in a way not cast up;

VULC ¹⁵ Quia oblitus est mei populus meus,
frustra libantes,
et impingentes in viis suis,
in semitis sæculi,
ut ambularent per eas in itinere non trito,

WLC ¹⁵ כִּֽי־ שְׁכֵחֻ֥נִי עַמִּ֖י לַשָּׁ֣וְא יְקַטֵּ֑רוּ וַיַּכְשִׁל֤וּם בְּדַרְכֵיהֶם֙ שְׁבִילֵ֣י עוֹלָ֔ם לָלֶ֣כֶת נְתִיב֔וֹת דֶּ֖רֶךְ לֹ֥א סְלוּלָֽה׃

BAN ¹⁶ pour faire de leur pays une désolation, un objet de dérision éternelle ; tous ceux qui y passeront seront stupéfaits, hocheront la tête.

KJV ¹⁶ To make their land desolate, and a perpetual hissing; every one that passeth thereby shall be astonished, and wag his head.

VULC ¹⁶ ut fieret terra eorum in desolationem,
et in sibilum sempiternum :
omnis qui præterierit per eam obstupescet,
et movebit caput suum.

WLC ¹⁶ לָשׂ֥וּם אַרְצָ֛ם לְשַׁמָּ֖ה עוֹלָ֑ם כֹּ֚ל עוֹבֵ֣ר עָלֶ֔יהָ יִשֹּׁ֖ם וְיָנִ֥יד בְּרֹאשֽׁוֹ׃

BAN ¹⁷ Je les disperserai devant l'ennemi, à la manière du vent d'orient ; au jour de leur ruine je les verrai par derrière et non en face.

KJV ¹⁷ I will scatter them as with an east wind before the enemy; I will shew them the back, and not the face, in the day of their calamity.

VULC ¹⁷ Sicut ventus urens dispergam eos coram inimico :
dorsum, et non faciem, ostendam eis in die perditionis eorum.]

WLC ¹⁷ כְּרֽוּחַ־ קָדִ֥ים אֲפִיצֵ֖ם לִפְנֵ֣י אוֹיֵ֑ב עֹ֧רֶף וְלֹֽא־ פָנִ֛ים אֶרְאֵ֖ם בְּי֥וֹם אֵידָֽם׃
