KJV ³ Wherefore Adonizedec king of Jerusalem, sent unto Hoham king of Hebron, and unto Piram king of Jarmuth, and unto Japhia king of Lachish, and unto Debir king of Eglon, saying,

WLC ³ וַיִּשְׁלַ֨ח אֲדֹנִי־ צֶ֜דֶק מֶ֣לֶךְ יְרוּשָׁלִַ֗ם אֶל־ הוֹהָ֣ם מֶֽלֶךְ־ חֶ֠בְרוֹן וְאֶל־ פִּרְאָ֨ם מֶֽלֶךְ־ יַרְמ֜וּת וְאֶל־ יָפִ֧יעַ מֶֽלֶךְ־ לָכִ֛ישׁ וְאֶל־ דְּבִ֥יר מֶֽלֶךְ־ עֶגְל֖וֹן לֵאמֹֽר׃

KJV ⁴ Come up unto me, and help me, that we may smite Gibeon: for it hath made peace with Joshua and with the children of Israel.

VULC ⁴ Ad me ascendite, et ferte præsidium, ut expugnemus Gabaon, quare transfugerit ad Josue, et ad filios Israël.

WLC ⁴ עֲלֽוּ־ אֵלַ֣י וְעִזְרֻ֔נִי וְנַכֶּ֖ה אֶת־ גִּבְע֑וֹן כִּֽי־ הִשְׁלִ֥ימָה אֶת־ יְהוֹשֻׁ֖עַ וְאֶת־ בְּנֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

KJV ⁵ Therefore the five kings of the Amorites, the king of Jerusalem, the king of Hebron, the king of Jarmuth, the king of Lachish, the king of Eglon, gathered themselves together, and went up, they and all their hosts, and encamped before Gibeon, and made war against it.

VULC ⁵ Congregati igitur ascenderunt quinque reges Amorrhæorum : rex Jerusalem, rex Hebron, rex Jerimoth, rex Lachis, rex Eglon, simul cum exercitibus suis : et castrametati sunt circa Gabaon, oppugnantes eam.

WLC ⁵ וַיֵּאָסְפ֨וּ וַֽיַּעֲל֜וּ חֲמֵ֣שֶׁת ׀ מַלְכֵ֣י הָאֱמֹרִ֗י מֶ֣לֶךְ יְרוּשָׁלִַ֜ם מֶֽלֶךְ־ חֶבְר֤וֹן מֶֽלֶךְ־ יַרְמוּת֙ מֶֽלֶךְ־ לָכִ֣ישׁ מֶֽלֶךְ־ עֶגְל֔וֹן הֵ֖ם וְכָל־ מַֽחֲנֵיהֶ֑ם וַֽיַּחֲנוּ֙ עַל־ גִּבְע֔וֹן וַיִּֽלָּחֲמ֖וּ עָלֶֽיהָ׃

KJV ⁶ And the men of Gibeon sent unto Joshua to the camp to Gilgal, saying, Slack not thy hand from thy servants; come up to us quickly, and save us, and help us: for all the kings of the Amorites that dwell in the mountains are gathered together against us.

VULC ⁶ Habitatores autem Gabaon urbis obsessæ miserunt ad Josue, qui tunc morabatur in castris apud Galgalam, et dixerunt ei : Ne retrahas manus tuas ab auxilio servorum tuorum : ascende cito, et libera nos, ferque præsidium : convenerunt enim adversum nos omnes reges Amorrhæorum, qui habitant in montanis.

WLC ⁶ וַיִּשְׁלְח֣וּ אַנְשֵׁי֩ גִבְע֨וֹן אֶל־ יְהוֹשֻׁ֤עַ אֶל־ הַֽמַּחֲנֶה֙ הַגִּלְגָּ֣לָה לֵאמֹ֔ר אַל־ תֶּ֥רֶף יָדֶ֖יךָ מֵֽעֲבָדֶ֑יךָ עֲלֵ֧ה אֵלֵ֣ינוּ מְהֵרָ֗ה וְהוֹשִׁ֤יעָה לָּ֙נוּ֙ וְעָזְרֵ֔נוּ כִּ֚י נִקְבְּצ֣וּ אֵלֵ֔ינוּ כָּל־ מַלְכֵ֥י הָאֱמֹרִ֖י יֹשְׁבֵ֥י הָהָֽר׃

KJV ⁷ So Joshua ascended from Gilgal, he, and all the people of war with him, and all the mighty men of valour.

VULC ⁷ Ascenditque Josue de Galgalis, et omnis exercitus bellatorum cum eo, viri fortissimi.

WLC ⁷ וַיַּ֨עַל יְהוֹשֻׁ֜עַ מִן־ הַגִּלְגָּ֗ל ה֚וּא וְכָל־ עַ֤ם הַמִּלְחָמָה֙ עִמּ֔וֹ וְכֹ֖ל גִּבּוֹרֵ֥י הֶחָֽיִל׃

KJV ⁸ And the LORD said unto Joshua, Fear them not: for I have delivered them into thine hand; there shall not a man of them stand before thee.

VULC ⁸ Dixitque Dominus ad Josue : Ne timeas eos : in manus enim tuas tradidi illos : nullus ex eis tibi resistere poterit.

WLC ⁸ וַיֹּ֨אמֶר יְהוָ֤ה אֶל־ יְהוֹשֻׁ֙עַ֙ אַל־ תִּירָ֣א מֵהֶ֔ם כִּ֥י בְיָדְךָ֖ נְתַתִּ֑ים לֹֽא־ יַעֲמֹ֥ד אִ֛ישׁ מֵהֶ֖ם בְּפָנֶֽיךָ׃

KJV ⁹ Joshua therefore came unto them suddenly, and went up from Gilgal all night.

VULC ⁹ Irruit itaque Josue super eos repente, tota nocte ascendens de Galgalis.

WLC ⁹ וַיָּבֹ֧א אֲלֵיהֶ֛ם יְהוֹשֻׁ֖עַ פִּתְאֹ֑ם כָּל־ הַלַּ֕יְלָה עָלָ֖ה מִן־ הַגִּלְגָּֽל׃

KJV ¹⁰ And the LORD discomfited them before Israel, and slew them with a great slaughter at Gibeon, and chased them along the way that goeth up to Bethhoron, and smote them to Azekah, and unto Makkedah.

VULC ¹⁰ Et conturbavit eos Dominus a facie Israël : contrivitque plaga magna in Gabaon, ac persecutus est eos per viam ascensus Bethoron, et percussit usque Azeca et Maceda.

WLC ¹⁰ וַיְהֻמֵּ֤ם יְהוָה֙ לִפְנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל וַיַּכֵּ֥ם מַכָּֽה־ גְדוֹלָ֖ה בְּגִבְע֑וֹן וַֽיִּרְדְּפֵ֗ם דֶּ֚רֶךְ מַעֲלֵ֣ה בֵית־ חוֹרֹ֔ן וַיַּכֵּ֥ם עַד־ עֲזֵקָ֖ה וְעַד־ מַקֵּדָֽה׃

KJV ¹¹ And it came to pass, as they fled from before Israel, and were in the going down to Bethhoron, that the LORD cast down great stones from heaven upon them unto Azekah, and they died: they were more which died with hailstones than they whom the children of Israel slew with the sword.

VULC ¹¹ Cumque fugerent filios Israël, et essent in descensu Bethoron, Dominus misit super eos lapides magnos de cælo usque ad Azeca : et mortui sunt multo plures lapidibus grandinis, quam quos gladio percusserant filii Israël.

WLC ¹¹ וַיְהִ֞י בְּנֻסָ֣ם ׀ מִפְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל הֵ֞ם בְּמוֹרַ֤ד בֵּית־ חוֹרֹן֙ וַֽיהוָ֡ה הִשְׁלִ֣יךְ עֲלֵיהֶם֩ אֲבָנִ֨ים גְּדֹל֧וֹת מִן־ הַשָּׁמַ֛יִם עַד־ עֲזֵקָ֖ה וַיָּמֻ֑תוּ רַבִּ֗ים אֲשֶׁר־ מֵ֙תוּ֙ בְּאַבְנֵ֣י הַבָּרָ֔ד מֵאֲשֶׁ֥ר הָרְג֛וּ בְּנֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל בֶּחָֽרֶב׃

KJV ¹² Then spake Joshua to the LORD in the day when the LORD delivered up the Amorites before the children of Israel, and he said in the sight of Israel, Sun, stand thou still upon Gibeon; and thou, Moon, in the valley of Ajalon.

VULC ¹² Tunc locutus est Josue Domino, in die qua tradidit Amorrhæum in conspectu filiorum Israël, dixitque coram eis : [Sol, contra Gabaon ne movearis,
et luna contra vallem Ajalon.

WLC ¹² אָ֣ז יְדַבֵּ֤ר יְהוֹשֻׁעַ֙ לַֽיהוָ֔ה בְּי֗וֹם תֵּ֤ת יְהוָה֙ אֶת־ הָ֣אֱמֹרִ֔י לִפְנֵ֖י בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל וַיֹּ֣אמֶר ׀ לְעֵינֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל שֶׁ֚מֶשׁ בְּגִבְע֣וֹן דּ֔וֹם וְיָרֵ֖חַ בְּעֵ֥מֶק אַיָּלֽוֹן׃

KJV ¹³ And the sun stood still, and the moon stayed, until the people had avenged themselves upon their enemies. Is not this written in the book of Jasher? So the sun stood still in the midst of heaven, and hasted not to go down about a whole day.

VULC ¹³ Steteruntque sol et luna,
donec ulcisceretur se gens de inimicis suis.] Nonne scriptum est hoc in libro justorum ? Stetit itaque sol in medio cæli, et non festinavit occumbere spatio unius diei.

WLC ¹³ וַיִּדֹּ֨ם הַשֶּׁ֜מֶשׁ וְיָרֵ֣חַ עָמָ֗ד עַד־ יִקֹּ֥ם גּוֹי֙ אֹֽיְבָ֔יו הֲלֹא־ הִ֥יא כְתוּבָ֖ה עַל־ סֵ֣פֶר הַיָּשָׁ֑ר וַיַּעֲמֹ֤ד הַשֶּׁ֙מֶשׁ֙ בַּחֲצִ֣י הַשָּׁמַ֔יִם וְלֹא־ אָ֥ץ לָב֖וֹא כְּי֥וֹם תָּמִֽים׃

KJV ¹⁴ And there was no day like that before it or after it, that the LORD hearkened unto the voice of a man: for the LORD fought for Israel.

VULC ¹⁴ Non fuit antea nec postea tam longa dies, obediente Domino voci hominis, et pugnante pro Israël.

WLC ¹⁴ וְלֹ֨א הָיָ֜ה כַּיּ֤וֹם הַהוּא֙ לְפָנָ֣יו וְאַחֲרָ֔יו לִשְׁמֹ֥עַ יְהוָ֖ה בְּק֣וֹל אִ֑ישׁ כִּ֣י יְהוָ֔ה נִלְחָ֖ם לְיִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

KJV ¹⁵ And Joshua returned, and all Israel with him, unto the camp to Gilgal.

VULC ¹⁵ Reversusque est Josue cum omni Israël in castra Galgalæ.

WLC ¹⁵ וַיָּ֤שָׁב יְהוֹשֻׁ֙עַ֙ וְכָל־ יִשְׂרָאֵ֣ל עִמּ֔וֹ אֶל־ הַֽמַּחֲנֶ֖ה הַגִּלְגָּֽלָה׃

KJV ¹⁶ But these five kings fled, and hid themselves in a cave at Makkedah.

VULC ¹⁶ Fugerant enim quinque reges et se absconderant in spelunca urbis Maceda.

WLC ¹⁶ וַיָּנֻ֕סוּ חֲמֵ֖שֶׁת הַמְּלָכִ֣ים הָאֵ֑לֶּה וַיֵּחָבְא֥וּ בַמְּעָרָ֖ה בְּמַקֵּדָֽה׃

KJV ¹⁷ And it was told Joshua, saying, The five kings are found hid in a cave at Makkedah.

VULC ¹⁷ Nuntiatumque est Josue quod inventi essent quinque reges latentes in spelunca urbis Maceda.

WLC ¹⁷ וַיֻּגַּ֖ד לִיהוֹשֻׁ֣עַ לֵאמֹ֑ר נִמְצְאוּ֙ חֲמֵ֣שֶׁת הַמְּלָכִ֔ים נֶחְבְּאִ֥ים בַּמְּעָרָ֖ה בְּמַקֵּדָֽה׃

KJV ¹⁸ And Joshua said, Roll great stones upon the mouth of the cave, and set men by it for to keep them:

VULC ¹⁸ Qui præcepit sociis, et ait : Volvite saxa ingentia ad os speluncæ, et ponite viros industrios, qui clausos custodiant :

WLC ¹⁸ וַיֹּ֣אמֶר יְהוֹשֻׁ֔עַ גֹּ֛לּוּ אֲבָנִ֥ים גְּדֹל֖וֹת אֶל־ פִּ֣י הַמְּעָרָ֑ה וְהַפְקִ֧ידוּ עָלֶ֛יהָ אֲנָשִׁ֖ים לְשָׁמְרָֽם׃

KJV ¹⁹ And stay ye not, but pursue after your enemies, and smite the hindmost of them; suffer them not to enter into their cities: for the LORD your God hath delivered them into your hand.

VULC ¹⁹ vos autem nolite stare, sed persequimini hostes, et extremos quosque fugientium cædite : nec dimittatis eos urbium suarum intrare præsidia, quos tradidit Dominus Deus in manus vestras.

WLC ¹⁹ וְאַתֶּם֙ אַֽל־ תַּעֲמֹ֔דוּ רִדְפוּ֙ אַחֲרֵ֣י אֹֽיְבֵיכֶ֔ם וְזִנַּבְתֶּ֖ם אוֹתָ֑ם אַֽל־ תִּתְּנ֗וּם לָבוֹא֙ אֶל־ עָ֣רֵיהֶ֔ם כִּ֧י נְתָנָ֛ם יְהוָ֥ה אֱלֹהֵיכֶ֖ם בְּיֶדְכֶֽם׃

KJV ²⁰ And it came to pass, when Joshua and the children of Israel had made an end of slaying them with a very great slaughter, till they were consumed, that the rest which remained of them entered into fenced cities.

VULC ²⁰ Cæsis ergo adversariis plaga magna, et usque ad internecionem pene consumptis, hi qui Israël effugere potuerunt, ingressi sunt civitates munitas.

WLC ²⁰ וַיְהִי֩ כְּכַלּ֨וֹת יְהוֹשֻׁ֜עַ וּבְנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל לְהַכּוֹתָ֛ם מַכָּ֥ה גְדוֹלָֽה־ מְאֹ֖ד עַד־ תֻּמָּ֑ם וְהַשְּׂרִידִים֙ שָׂרְד֣וּ מֵהֶ֔ם וַיָּבֹ֖אוּ אֶל־ עָרֵ֥י הַמִּבְצָֽר׃

KJV ²¹ And all the people returned to the camp to Joshua at Makkedah in peace: none moved his tongue against any of the children of Israel.

VULC ²¹ Reversusque est omnis exercitus ad Josue in Maceda, ubi tunc erant castra, sani et integro numero : nullusque contra filios Israël mutire ausus est.

WLC ²¹ וַיָּשֻׁבוּ֩ כָל־ הָעָ֨ם אֶל־ הַמַּחֲנֶ֧ה אֶל־ יְהוֹשֻׁ֛עַ מַקֵּדָ֖ה בְּשָׁל֑וֹם לֹֽא־ חָרַ֞ץ לִבְנֵ֧י יִשְׂרָאֵ֛ל לְאִ֖ישׁ אֶת־ לְשֹׁנֽוֹ׃

KJV ²² Then said Joshua, Open the mouth of the cave, and bring out those five kings unto me out of the cave.

VULC ²² Præcepitque Josue, dicens : Aperite os speluncæ, et producite ad me quinque reges, qui in ea latitant.

WLC ²² וַיֹּ֣אמֶר יְהוֹשֻׁ֔עַ פִּתְח֖וּ אֶת־ פִּ֣י הַמְּעָרָ֑ה וְהוֹצִ֣יאוּ אֵלַ֗י אֶת־ חֲמֵ֛שֶׁת הַמְּלָכִ֥ים הָאֵ֖לֶּה מִן־ הַמְּעָרָֽה׃

KJV ²³ And they did so, and brought forth those five kings unto him out of the cave, the king of Jerusalem, the king of Hebron, the king of Jarmuth, the king of Lachish, and the king of Eglon.

VULC ²³ Feceruntque ministri ut sibi fuerat imperatum : et eduxerunt ad eum quinque reges de spelunca, regem Jerusalem, regem Hebron, regem Jerimoth, regem Lachis, regem Eglon.

WLC ²³ וַיַּ֣עֲשׂוּ כֵ֔ן וַיֹּצִ֣יאוּ אֵלָ֗יו אֶת־ חֲמֵ֛שֶׁת הַמְּלָכִ֥ים הָאֵ֖לֶּה מִן־ הַמְּעָרָ֑ה אֵ֣ת ׀ מֶ֣לֶךְ יְרוּשָׁלִַ֗ם אֶת־ מֶ֤לֶךְ חֶבְרוֹן֙ אֶת־ מֶ֣לֶךְ יַרְמ֔וּת אֶת־ מֶ֥לֶךְ לָכִ֖ישׁ אֶת־ מֶ֥לֶךְ עֶגְלֽוֹן׃
