KJV ³ And when the inhabitants of Gibeon heard what Joshua had done unto Jericho and to Ai,

DRB ⁴ et ils usèrent de ruse, eux aussi ; et ils se mirent en route, préparés comme pour un voyage*, et prirent de vieux sacs sur leurs ânes, et de vieilles outres à vin crevassées et recousues,

KJV ⁴ They did work wilily, and went and made as if they had been ambassadors, and took old sacks upon their asses, and wine bottles, old, and rent, and bound up;

VULC ⁴ et callide cogitantes, tulerunt sibi cibaria, saccos veteres asinis imponentes, et utres vinarios scissos atque consutos,

DRB ⁵ et de vieilles sandales rapiécées à leurs pieds, et de vieux habits sur eux ; et tout le pain de leur provision était sec [et] s'était moisi*.

KJV ⁵ And old shoes and clouted upon their feet, and old garments upon them; and all the bread of their provision was dry and mouldy.

VULC ⁵ calceamentaque perantiqua quæ ad indicium vetustatis pittaciis consuta erant, induti veteribus vestimentis : panes quoque, quos portabant ob viaticum, duri erant, et in frusta comminuti :

DRB ⁶ Et ils allèrent vers Josué, au camp de Guilgal, et ils lui dirent, et aux hommes d'Israël : Nous venons d'un pays éloigné ; et maintenant, traitez alliance avec nous.

KJV ⁶ And they went to Joshua unto the camp at Gilgal, and said unto him, and to the men of Israel, We be come from a far country: now therefore make ye a league with us.

VULC ⁶ perrexeruntque ad Josue, qui tunc morabatur in castris Galgalæ, et dixerunt ei, atque simul omni Israëli : De terra longinqua venimus, pacem vobiscum facere cupientes. Responderuntque viri Israël ad eos, atque dixerunt :

DRB ⁷ Et les hommes d'Israël dirent au Hévien : Peut-être que tu habites au milieu de nous ; et comment traiterions-nous alliance avec toi ?

KJV ⁷ And the men of Israel said unto the Hivites, Peradventure ye dwell among us; and how shall we make a league with you?

VULC ⁷ Ne forte in terra, quæ nobis sorte debetur, habitetis, et non possimus fœdus inire vobiscum.

DRB ⁸ Et ils dirent à Josué : Nous sommes tes serviteurs. Et Josué leur dit : Qui êtes-vous ? et d'où venez-vous ?

KJV ⁸ And they said unto Joshua, We are thy servants. And Joshua said unto them, Who are ye? and from whence come ye?

VULC ⁸ At illi ad Josue : Servi, inquiunt, tui sumus. Quibus Josue ait : Quinam estis vos ? et unde venistis ?

DRB ⁹ Et ils lui dirent : Tes serviteurs viennent d'un pays très éloigné, au nom de l'Éternel, ton Dieu ; car nous avons entendu sa renommée,

KJV ⁹ And they said unto him, From a very far country thy servants are come because of the name of the LORD thy God: for we have heard the fame of him, and all that he did in Egypt,

VULC ⁹ Responderunt : De terra longinqua valde venerunt servi tui in nomine Domini Dei tui. Audivimus enim famam potentiæ ejus, cuncta quæ fecit in Ægypto,

DRB ¹⁰ et tout ce qu'il a fait en Égypte, et tout ce qu'il a fait aux deux rois des Amoréens qui étaient au delà du Jourdain, à Sihon, roi de Hesbon, et à Og, roi de Basan, qui était à Ashtaroth.

KJV ¹⁰ And all that he did to the two kings of the Amorites, that were beyond Jordan, to Sihon king of Heshbon, and to Og king of Bashan, which was at Ashtaroth.

DRB ¹¹ Et nos anciens et tous les habitants de notre pays nous ont parlé, disant : Prenez avec vous des provisions pour la route, et allez au-devant d'eux, et dites-leur : Nous sommes vos serviteurs, et maintenant traitez alliance avec nous.

KJV ¹¹ Wherefore our elders and all the inhabitants of our country spake to us, saying, Take victuals with you for the journey, and go to meet them, and say unto them, We are your servants: therefore now make ye a league with us.

VULC ¹¹ dixeruntque nobis seniores, et omnes habitatores terræ nostræ : Tollite in manibus cibaria ob longissimam viam, et occurrite eis, et dicite : Servi vestri sumus : fœdus inite nobiscum.

KJV ¹² This our bread we took hot for our provision out of our houses on the day we came forth to go unto you; but now, behold, it is dry, and it is mouldy:

VULC ¹² En panes quando egressi sumus de domibus nostris, ut veniremus ad vos, calidos sumpsimus ; nunc sicci facti sunt, et vetustate nimia comminuti.

DRB ¹³ Et ce sont ici les outres à vin que nous avions remplies neuves ; et voici, elles se sont crevassées ; et ce sont ici nos habits et nos sandales qui sont vieillis à cause de la grande longueur de la route.

KJV ¹³ And these bottles of wine, which we filled, were new; and, behold, they be rent: and these our garments and our shoes are become old by reason of the very long journey.

VULC ¹³ Utres vini novos implevimus ; nunc rupti sunt et soluti. Vestes et calceamenta quibus induimur, et quæ habemus in pedibus, ob longitudinem longioris viæ trita sunt, et pene consumpta.

DRB ¹⁴ Et les hommes [d'Israël] prirent de leurs provisions ; et on n'interrogea point la bouche de l'Éternel.

KJV ¹⁴ And the men took of their victuals, and asked not counsel at the mouth of the LORD.
