KJV ¹ Now after the death of Joshua it came to pass, that the children of Israel asked the LORD, saying, Who shall go up for us against the Canaanites first, to fight against them?

KJV ³ And Judah said unto Simeon his brother, Come up with me into my lot, that we may fight against the Canaanites; and I likewise will go with thee into thy lot. So Simeon went with him.

MAR ³ Et Juda dit à Siméon son frère : Monte avec moi en mon partage, et nous ferons la guerre aux Cananéens ; et j'irai aussi avec toi en ton partage. Ainsi Siméon alla avec lui.

KJV ⁴ And Judah went up; and the LORD delivered the Canaanites and the Perizzites into their hand: and they slew of them in Bezek ten thousand men.

MAR ⁴ Juda donc monta, et l'Eternel livra les Cananéens et les Phérésiens entre leurs mains ; et ils battirent en Bézec dix mille hommes.

KJV ⁵ And they found Adonibezek in Bezek: and they fought against him, and they slew the Canaanites and the Perizzites.

MAR ⁵ Or ayant trouvé Adoni-bézec en Bézec, ils combattirent contre lui, et frappèrent les Cananéens et les Phérésiens.

KJV ⁶ But Adonibezek fled; and they pursued after him, and caught him, and cut off his thumbs and his great toes.

KJV ⁷ And Adonibezek said, Threescore and ten kings, having their thumbs and their great toes cut off, gathered their meat under my table: as I have done, so God hath requited me. And they brought him to Jerusalem, and there he died.

KJV ⁸ Now the children of Judah had fought against Jerusalem, and had taken it, and smitten it with the edge of the sword, and set the city on fire.

MAR ⁸ Or les enfants de Juda avaient fait la guerre contre Jérusalem, et l'avaient prise, et ils avaient fait passer [ses habitants] au tranchant de l'épée, et mis la ville en feu.

KJV ⁹ And afterward the children of Judah went down to fight against the Canaanites, that dwelt in the mountain, and in the south, and in the valley.

MAR ⁹ Puis les enfants de Juda étaient descendus pour faire la guerre aux Cananéens, qui habitaient dans les montagnes, et au Midi, et dans la plaine.

KJV ¹⁰ And Judah went against the Canaanites that dwelt in Hebron: (now the name of Hebron before was Kirjatharba:) and they slew Sheshai, and Ahiman, and Talmai.

KJV ¹¹ And from thence he went against the inhabitants of Debir: and the name of Debir before was Kirjathsepher:

KJV ¹² And Caleb said, He that smiteth Kirjathsepher, and taketh it, to him will I give Achsah my daughter to wife.

KJV ¹³ And Othniel the son of Kenaz, Caleb's younger brother, took it: and he gave him Achsah his daughter to wife.

KJV ¹⁴ And it came to pass, when she came to him, that she moved him to ask of her father a field: and she lighted from off her ass; and Caleb said unto her, What wilt thou?

MAR ¹⁴ Et il arriva que comme elle s'en allait, elle l'incita à demander à son père un champ ; puis elle descendit impétueusement de dessus son âne ; et Caleb lui dit : Qu'as-tu ?

KJV ¹⁵ And she said unto him, Give me a blessing: for thou hast given me a south land; give me also springs of water. And Caleb gave her the upper springs and the nether springs.

MAR ¹⁵ Et elle lui répondit : Donne-moi un présent ; puisque tu m'as donné une terre sèche, donne-moi aussi des sources d'eaux. Et Caleb lui donna les fontaines [du quartier] de dessus, et les fontaines [du quartier] de dessous.

KJV ¹⁶ And the children of the Kenite, Moses' father in law, went up out of the city of palm trees with the children of Judah into the wilderness of Judah, which lieth in the south of Arad; and they went and dwelt among the people.

KJV ¹⁷ And Judah went with Simeon his brother, and they slew the Canaanites that inhabited Zephath, and utterly destroyed it. And the name of the city was called Hormah.

KJV ¹⁸ Also Judah took Gaza with the coast thereof, and Askelon with the coast thereof, and Ekron with the coast thereof.

KJV ¹⁹ And the LORD was with Judah; and he drave out the inhabitants of the mountain; but could not drive out the inhabitants of the valley, because they had chariots of iron.

KJV ²⁰ And they gave Hebron unto Caleb, as Moses said: and he expelled thence the three sons of Anak.

KJV ²¹ And the children of Benjamin did not drive out the Jebusites that inhabited Jerusalem; but the Jebusites dwell with the children of Benjamin in Jerusalem unto this day.

KJV ²² And the house of Joseph, they also went up against Bethel: and the LORD was with them.

MAR ²² Ceux aussi de la maison de Joseph montèrent contre Bethel, et l'Eternel fut avec eux.

KJV ²³ And the house of Joseph sent to descry Bethel. (Now the name of the city before was Luz.)

MAR ²³ Et ceux de la maison de Joseph firent reconnaître Bethel, dont le nom était auparavant, Luz.

KJV ²⁴ And the spies saw a man come forth out of the city, and they said unto him, Shew us, we pray thee, the entrance into the city, and we will shew thee mercy.

MAR ²⁴ Et les espions virent un homme qui sortait de la ville, auquel ils dirent : Nous te prions de nous montrer un endroit par où l'on puisse entrer dans la ville, et nous te ferons grâce.

KJV ²⁵ And when he shewed them the entrance into the city, they smote the city with the edge of the sword; but they let go the man and all his family.

MAR ²⁵ Il leur montra donc un endroit par où l'on pouvait entrer dans la ville, et ils la firent passer au tranchant de l'épée ; mais ils laissèrent aller cet homme-là, et toute sa famille.

KJV ²⁶ And the man went into the land of the Hittites, and built a city, and called the name thereof Luz: which is the name thereof unto this day.

KJV ²⁷ Neither did Manasseh drive out the inhabitants of Bethshean and her towns, nor Taanach and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Dor and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Ibleam and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Megiddo and her towns: but the Canaanites would dwell in that land.

KJV ²⁸ And it came to pass, when Israel was strong, that they put the Canaanites to tribute, and did not utterly drive them out.

KJV ²⁹ Neither did Ephraim drive out the Canaanites that dwelt in Gezer; but the Canaanites dwelt in Gezer among them.

KJV ³⁰ Neither did Zebulun drive out the inhabitants of Kitron, nor the inhabitants of Nahalol; but the Canaanites dwelt among them, and became tributaries.

KJV ³² But the Asherites dwelt among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land: for they did not drive them out.

KJV ³³ Neither did Naphtali drive out the inhabitants of Bethshemesh, nor the inhabitants of Bethanath; but he dwelt among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land: nevertheless the inhabitants of Bethshemesh and of Bethanath became tributaries unto them.

KJV ³⁴ And the Amorites forced the children of Dan into the mountain: for they would not suffer them to come down to the valley:

MAR ³⁴ Et les Amorrhéens tinrent les enfants de Dan fort resserrés dans la montagne, et ils ne souffraient point qu'ils descendissent dans la vallée.

KJV ³⁵ But the Amorites would dwell in mount Heres in Aijalon, and in Shaalbim: yet the hand of the house of Joseph prevailed, so that they became tributaries.

MAR ³⁵ Et ces Amorrhéens-là osèrent encore habiter à Har-Hérés, à Ajalon, et à Sahalbim ; mais la main de la maison de Joseph étant devenue plus forte, ils furent rendus tributaires.

KJV ³⁶ And the coast of the Amorites was from the going up to Akrabbim, from the rock, and upward.

KJV ¹ And an angel of the LORD came up from Gilgal to Bochim, and said, I made you to go up out of Egypt, and have brought you unto the land which I sware unto your fathers; and I said, I will never break my covenant with you.

MAR ¹ Or l'Ange de l'Eternel monta de Guilgal à Bokim, et dit : Je vous ai fait monter hors d'Egypte, et je vous ai fait entrer au pays dont j'avais juré à vos pères, et j'ai dit : Je n'enfreindrai jamais mon alliance que j'ai traitée avec vous.

KJV ² And ye shall make no league with the inhabitants of this land; ye shall throw down their altars: but ye have not obeyed my voice: why have ye done this?

MAR ² Et vous aussi vous ne traiterez point alliance avec les habitants de ce pays ; vous démolirez leurs autels ; mais vous n'avez point obéi à ma voix ; qu'est-ce que vous avez fait ?

KJV ³ Wherefore I also said, I will not drive them out from before you; but they shall be as thorns in your sides, and their gods shall be a snare unto you.

MAR ³ Et j'ai dit aussi : Je ne les chasserai point de devant vous, mais ils seront à vos côtés, et leurs dieux vous seront en piège.

KJV ⁴ And it came to pass, when the angel of the LORD spake these words unto all the children of Israel, that the people lifted up their voice, and wept.

MAR ⁴ Et il arriva qu'aussitôt que l'Ange de l'Eternel eut dit ces paroles à tous les enfants d'Israël, le peuple éleva sa voix, et pleura.

KJV ⁵ And they called the name of that place Bochim: and they sacrificed there unto the LORD.

MAR ⁵ C'est pourquoi ils appelèrent ce lieu-là Bokim ; et ils sacrifièrent là à l'Eternel.

KJV ⁶ And when Joshua had let the people go, the children of Israel went every man unto his inheritance to possess the land.

MAR ⁶ Or Josué avait renvoyé le peuple, et les enfants d'Israël s'en étaient allés chacun à son héritage, pour posséder le pays.

KJV ⁷ And the people served the LORD all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders that outlived Joshua, who had seen all the great works of the LORD, that he did for Israel.

MAR ⁷ Et le peuple avait servi l'Eternel tout le temps de Josué, et tout le temps des Anciens qui avaient survécu à Josué, [et] qui avaient vu toutes les grandes oeuvres de l'Eternel, lesquelles il avait faites pour Israël.

KJV ⁸ And Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of the LORD, died, being an hundred and ten years old.

MAR ⁸ Puis Josué, fils de Nun, serviteur de l'Eternel, était mort, âgé de cent dix ans.

KJV ⁹ And they buried him in the border of his inheritance in Timnathheres, in the mount of Ephraim, on the north side of the hill Gaash.

MAR ⁹ Et on l'avait enseveli dans les bornes de son héritage à Timnath-Hérés, en la montagne d'Ephraïm, du côté du Septentrion de la montagne de Gahas.

KJV ¹⁰ And also all that generation were gathered unto their fathers: and there arose another generation after them, which knew not the LORD, nor yet the works which he had done for Israel.

MAR ¹⁰ Et toute cette génération aussi avait été recueillie avec ses pères ; puis une autre génération s'était levée après eux, laquelle n'avait point connu l'Eternel, ni les oeuvres qu'il avait faites pour Israël.

KJV ¹¹ And the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the LORD, and served Baalim:

MAR ¹¹ Les enfants d'Israël donc firent ce qui déplaît à l'Eternel, et servirent les Bahalins.

KJV ¹² And they forsook the LORD God of their fathers, which brought them out of the land of Egypt, and followed other gods, of the gods of the people that were round about them, and bowed themselves unto them, and provoked the LORD to anger.

MAR ¹² Et ayant abandonné l'Eternel, le Dieu de leurs pères, qui les avait fait sortir du pays d'Egypte, ils allèrent après d'autres dieux, d'entre les dieux des peuples qui [étaient] autour d'eux, et ils se prosternèrent devant eux ; ainsi ils irritèrent l'Eternel.

KJV ¹³ And they forsook the LORD, and served Baal and Ashtaroth.

MAR ¹³ Ils abandonnèrent donc l'Eternel, et servirent Bahal et Hastaroth.

KJV ¹⁴ And the anger of the LORD was hot against Israel, and he delivered them into the hands of spoilers that spoiled them, and he sold them into the hands of their enemies round about, so that they could not any longer stand before their enemies.

MAR ¹⁴ Et la colère de l'Eternel s'enflamma contre Israël, et il les livra entre les mains de gens qui les pillèrent ; et il les vendit en la main de leurs ennemis d'alentour, de sorte qu'ils ne purent plus se maintenir devant leurs ennemis.

KJV ¹⁵ Whithersoever they went out, the hand of the LORD was against them for evil, as the LORD had said, and as the LORD had sworn unto them: and they were greatly distressed.

MAR ¹⁵ Partout où ils allaient, la main de l'Eternel était contr'eux en mal, comme l'Eternel en avait parlé, et comme l'Eternel le leur avait juré, et ils furent dans de [grandes] angoisses.

KJV ¹⁶ Nevertheless the LORD raised up judges, which delivered them out of the hand of those that spoiled them.

MAR ¹⁶ Et l'Eternel leur suscitait des Juges, qui les délivraient de la main de ceux qui les pillaient.

KJV ¹⁷ And yet they would not hearken unto their judges, but they went a whoring after other gods, and bowed themselves unto them: they turned quickly out of the way which their fathers walked in, obeying the commandments of the LORD; but they did not so.

MAR ¹⁷ Mais ils ne voulaient pas même écouter leurs Juges, ils paillardaient après d'autres dieux ; ils se prosternaient devant eux ; ils se détournaient aussitôt du chemin par lequel leurs pères avaient marché, obéissant aux commandements de l'Eternel ; mais eux ne faisaient pas ainsi.

KJV ¹⁸ And when the LORD raised them up judges, then the LORD was with the judge, and delivered them out of the hand of their enemies all the days of the judge: for it repented the LORD because of their groanings by reason of them that oppressed them and vexed them.

MAR ¹⁸ Or quand l'Eternel leur suscitait des Juges, l'Eternel était aussi avec le Juge, et il les délivrait de la main de leurs ennemis pendant tout le temps du Juge ; car l'Eternel se repentait pour les sanglots qu'ils jetaient à cause de ceux qui les opprimaient et qui les accablaient.

KJV ¹⁹ And it came to pass, when the judge was dead, that they returned, and corrupted themselves more than their fathers, in following other gods to serve them, and to bow down unto them; they ceased not from their own doings, nor from their stubborn way.

MAR ¹⁹ Puis il arrivait que quand le Juge mourait, ils se corrompaient de nouveau plus que leurs pères, allant après d'autres dieux pour les servir, et se prosterner devant eux ; ils ne diminuaient rien de leur mauvaise conduite ni de leur train obstiné.

KJV ²⁰ And the anger of the LORD was hot against Israel; and he said, Because that this people hath transgressed my covenant which I commanded their fathers, and have not hearkened unto my voice;

MAR ²⁰ C'est pourquoi la colère de l'Eternel s'enflamma contre Israël, et il dit : Parce que cette nation a transgressé mon alliance que j'avais commandée à leurs pères, et qu'ils n ont point obéi à ma voix ;

KJV ²¹ I also will not henceforth drive out any from before them of the nations which Joshua left when he died:

MAR ²¹ Aussi je ne déposséderai plus de devant eux aucune des nations que Josué laissa quand il mourut ;

KJV ²² That through them I may prove Israel, whether they will keep the way of the LORD to walk therein, as their fathers did keep it, or not.

MAR ²² Afin d'éprouver par elles Israël, [et voir] s'ils garderont la voie de l'Eternel pour y marcher, comme leurs pères l'ont gardée, ou non.

KJV ²³ Therefore the LORD left those nations, without driving them out hastily; neither delivered he them into the hand of Joshua.

MAR ²³ L'Eternel donc laissa ces nations-là sans les déposséder sitôt, et il ne les livra point entre les mains de Josué.

KJV ¹ Now these are the nations which the LORD left, to prove Israel by them, even as many of Israel as had not known all the wars of Canaan;

MAR ¹ Or ce sont ici les nations que l'Eternel laissa pour éprouver par elles Israël, [savoir] tous ceux qui n'avaient point eu connaissance de toutes les guerres de Canaan ;

KJV ² Only that the generations of the children of Israel might know, to teach them war, at the least such as before knew nothing thereof;

MAR ² Afin qu'au moins les générations des enfants d'Israël sussent et apprissent ce que c'est que la guerre ; au moins ceux qui auparavant n'en avaient rien connu.

KJV ³ Namely, five lords of the Philistines, and all the Canaanites, and the Sidonians, and the Hivites that dwelt in mount Lebanon, from mount Baalhermon unto the entering in of Hamath.

MAR ³ [Ces nations donc furent] les cinq Gouvernements des Philistins, et tous les Cananéens, les Sidoniens, et les Héviens, qui habitaient en la montagne du Liban, depuis la montagne de Bahal-hermon, jusqu'à l'entrée de Hamath.

KJV ⁴ And they were to prove Israel by them, to know whether they would hearken unto the commandments of the LORD, which he commanded their fathers by the hand of Moses.

MAR ⁴ [Ces nations], dis-je, servirent à éprouver Israël, pour voir s'ils obéiraient aux commandements de l'Eternel, lesquels il avait donnés à leurs pères par le moyen de Moïse.

KJV ⁵ And the children of Israel dwelt among the Canaanites, Hittites, and Amorites, and Perizzites, and Hivites, and Jebusites:

MAR ⁵ Ainsi les enfants d'Israël habitèrent parmi les Cananéens, les Héthiens, les Amorrhéens, les Phérésiens, les Héviens, et les Jébusiens.

KJV ⁶ And they took their daughters to be their wives, and gave their daughters to their sons, and served their gods.

MAR ⁶ Et ils prirent leurs filles pour femmes, et ils donnèrent leurs filles à leurs fils, et servirent leurs dieux.

KJV ⁷ And the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the LORD, and forgat the LORD their God, and served Baalim and the groves.

MAR ⁷ Les enfants d'Israël firent donc ce qui déplaît à l'Eternel ; ils oublièrent l'Eternel leur Dieu, et servirent les Bahalins, et les bocages.

KJV ⁸ Therefore the anger of the LORD was hot against Israel, and he sold them into the hand of Chushanrishathaim king of Mesopotamia: and the children of Israel served Chushanrishathaim eight years.

MAR ⁸ C'est pourquoi la colère de l'Eternel s'enflamma contre Israël, et il les vendit en la main de Cusan-rischathajim, Roi de Mésopotamie. Et les enfants d'Israël furent asservis à Cusan-rischathajim huit ans.

KJV ⁹ And when the children of Israel cried unto the LORD, the LORD raised up a deliverer to the children of Israel, who delivered them, even Othniel the son of Kenaz, Caleb's younger brother.

MAR ⁹ Puis les enfants d'Israël crièrent à l'Eternel, et l'Eternel leur suscita un Libérateur qui les délivra, [savoir] Hothniël, fils de Kénas, frère puîné de Caleb.

KJV ¹⁰ And the Spirit of the LORD came upon him, and he judged Israel, and went out to war: and the LORD delivered Chushanrishathaim king of Mesopotamia into his hand; and his hand prevailed against Chushanrishathaim.

MAR ¹⁰ Et l'Esprit de l'Eternel fut sur lui, et il jugea Israël, et sortit en bataille, et l'Eternel livra entre ses mains Cusan-rischathajim, Roi d'Aram ; et sa main fut fortifiée contre Cusan-rischathajim.

KJV ¹¹ And the land had rest forty years. And Othniel the son of Kenaz died.

MAR ¹¹ Et le pays fut en repos quarante ans. Puis Hothniel, fils de Kénas, mourut.
