   ¹ Et l'Éternel parla à Moïse, disant : ² Tu diras aussi aux fils d'Israël : Quiconque d'entre les fils d'Israël, ou d'entre les étrangers qui séjournent en Israël, donnera de ses enfants* à Moloc, sera certainement mis à mort ; le peuple du pays le lapidera avec des pierres. ³ Et moi, je mettrai ma face contre cet homme-là, et je le retrancherai du milieu de son peuple, parce qu'il a donné de ses enfants* à Moloc, pour rendre impur mon sanctuaire et pour profaner mon saint nom. ⁴ Et si le peuple du pays ferme les yeux, en quelque manière, sur cet homme, quand il donne de ses enfants* à Moloc, pour ne pas le faire mourir, ⁵ moi, je mettrai ma face contre cet homme et contre sa famille, et je le retrancherai du milieu de son peuple, lui et tous ceux qui se prostituent après lui, se prostituant après Moloc. ⁶ - Et l'âme qui se tournera vers ceux qui évoquent les esprits, et vers les diseurs de bonne aventure, se prostituant après eux, je mettrai ma face contre cette âme-là, et je la retrancherai du milieu de son peuple. ⁷ Et vous vous sanctifierez et vous serez saints, car moi, je suis l'Éternel, votre Dieu. ⁸ Et vous garderez mes statuts, et vous les ferez. Moi, je suis l'Éternel qui vous sanctifie. ⁹ Tout homme qui maudira son père et sa mère sera certainement mis à mort ; il a maudit son père et sa mère, son sang est sur lui.
   ¹⁰ Et un homme qui commet adultère avec la femme d'un autre, - qui commet adultère avec la femme de son prochain… : l'homme et la femme adultères seront certainement mis à mort. ¹¹ Et l'homme qui couchera avec la femme de son père, découvre la nudité de son père ; ils seront certainement mis à mort, tous deux : leur sang est sur eux. ¹² Et si un homme couche avec sa belle-fille, ils seront certainement mis à mort, tous deux ; ils ont fait une confusion : leur sang est sur eux. ¹³ Et si un homme couche avec un mâle, comme on couche avec une femme, ils ont fait tous deux une chose abominable ; ils seront certainement mis à mort : leur sang est sur eux. ¹⁴ Et si un homme prend une femme et sa mère, c'est une infamie ; on les brûlera au feu, lui et elles, et il n'y aura point d'infamie au milieu de vous. ¹⁵ Et si un homme couche avec une bête, il sera certainement mis à mort ; et vous tuerez la bête. ¹⁶ Et si une femme s'approche d'une bête, quelle qu'elle soit, pour se prostituer à elle, tu tueras la femme et la bête ; elles seront certainement mises à mort : leur sang est sur elles. ¹⁷ Et si un homme prend sa sœur, fille de son père, ou fille de sa mère, et voit sa nudité, et qu'elle voie sa nudité à lui, c'est une honte : ils seront retranchés devant les yeux des fils de leur peuple ; il a découvert la nudité de sa sœur, il portera son iniquité. ¹⁸ Et si un homme couche avec une femme qui a son infirmité, et découvre sa nudité, il met à découvert son flux, et elle découvre le flux de son sang : ils seront tous deux retranchés du milieu de leur peuple. ¹⁹ Et tu ne découvriras point la nudité de la sœur de ta mère, ni de la sœur de ton père ; car celui qui fait cela met* à nu sa propre chair : ils porteront leur iniquité. ²⁰ Et si un homme couche avec sa tante, il découvre la nudité de son oncle ; ils porteront leur péché : ils mourront sans enfants. ²¹ Et si un homme prend la femme de son frère, c'est une impureté ; il découvre la nudité de son frère : ils n'auront pas d'enfants.
   ²² Et vous garderez tous mes statuts et toutes mes ordonnances, et vous les ferez ; afin que le pays où je vous fais entrer pour y habiter ne vous vomisse pas. ²³ Et vous ne marcherez point dans les statuts de la nation que je chasse devant vous ; car ils ont fait toutes ces choses-là, et je les ai eus en abomination ; ²⁴ et je vous ai dit : C'est vous qui posséderez leur terre, et je vous la donnerai pour la posséder, un pays ruisselant de lait et de miel. Moi, je suis l'Éternel, votre Dieu, qui vous ai séparés des peuples. ²⁵ Et vous discernerez entre la bête pure et l'impure, et entre l'oiseau impur et le pur, et vous ne vous* rendrez point abominables par des bêtes, ou par des oiseaux, ou par tout ce qui rampe sur la terre, que j'ai séparé, le déclarant impur. ²⁶ Et vous me serez saints, car je suis saint, moi, l'Éternel ; et je vous ai séparés des peuples, pour être à moi. ²⁷ Et si un homme ou une femme sont évocateurs d'esprits, ou diseurs de bonne aventure, ils seront certainement mis à mort ; on les lapidera avec des pierres : leur sang sera sur eux.

Lévitique 21

   ¹ Et l'Éternel dit à Moïse : Parle aux sacrificateurs, fils d'Aaron, et dis-leur : Que le sacrificateur* ne se rende pas impur parmi ses peuples pour un mort**, ² excepté pour son proche parent, pour sa mère, et pour son père, et pour son fils, et pour sa fille, et pour son frère ; ³ et pour sa sœur vierge qui lui est proche, et qui n'aura pas été mariée, pour elle il se rendra impur. ⁴ Il ne se rendra pas impur comme chef parmi son peuple, pour se profaner. ⁵ Ils ne se feront point de place chauve sur leur tête, et ils ne raseront pas les coins de leur barbe ni ne se feront d'incisions dans leur chair. ⁶ Ils seront saints, [consacrés] à leur Dieu, et ils ne profaneront pas le nom de leur Dieu, car ils présentent les sacrifices de l'Éternel faits par feu, le pain de leur Dieu ; et ils seront saints. ⁷ Ils ne prendront point pour femme une prostituée ou une femme déshonorée ; et ils ne prendront pas une femme répudiée par son mari, car le sacrificateur* est saint, [consacré] à son Dieu. ⁸ Et tu le tiendras pour saint, car il présente le pain de ton Dieu. Il te sera saint, car je suis saint, moi, l'Éternel qui vous sanctifie. ⁹ Et si la fille d'un sacrificateur se profane* en se prostituant, elle profane son père ; elle sera brûlée au feu.
   ¹⁰ Et le grand sacrificateur d'entre ses frères, sur la tête duquel l'huile de l'onction aura été versée et qui aura été consacré pour revêtir les [saints] vêtements, ne découvrira pas sa tête et ne déchirera pas ses vêtements. ¹¹ Il n'ira vers aucune personne morte ; il ne se rendra impur ni pour son père, ni pour sa mère ; ¹² et il ne sortira pas du sanctuaire, et ne profanera pas le sanctuaire de son Dieu ; car la consécration* de l'huile de l'onction de son Dieu est sur lui. Moi, je suis l'Éternel. ¹³ Et il prendra pour femme une vierge. ¹⁴ Une veuve, ou une répudiée, ou une femme déshonorée, une prostituée, il ne les prendra point ; mais il prendra pour femme une vierge d'entre ses peuples. ¹⁵ Et il ne profanera pas sa semence parmi ses peuples, car moi, je suis l'Éternel qui le sanctifie.
   ¹⁶ Et l'Éternel parla à Moïse, disant : ¹⁷ Parle à Aaron, en disant : Aucun homme de ta semence, en ses générations, qui a quelque défaut corporel, ne s'approchera pour présenter le pain de son Dieu ; ¹⁸ car quiconque a un défaut corporel ne s'approchera pas : l'homme aveugle, ou boiteux, ou camus, ou qui a l'un de ses membres plus long que l'autre ; ¹⁹ ou l'homme qui a une fracture au pied ou une fracture à la main ; ²⁰ ou celui qui est bossu, ou grêle, ou qui a une tache à l'œil, ou qui a une gale, ou une dartre, ou qui a les testicules écrasés. ²¹ Nul homme de la semence d'Aaron, le sacrificateur, en qui il y aura quelque défaut corporel, ne s'approchera pour présenter les sacrifices de l'Éternel faits par feu ; il y a en lui un défaut corporel : il ne s'approchera pas pour présenter le pain de son Dieu. ²² Il mangera du pain de son Dieu, des choses très saintes et des choses saintes ; ²³ seulement il n'entrera pas vers le voile, et ne s'approchera pas de l'autel, car il y a en lui un défaut corporel, et il ne profanera pas mes sanctuaires* ; car moi, je suis l'Éternel qui les sanctifie. ²⁴ Moïse parla ainsi à Aaron et à ses fils, et à tous les fils d'Israël.

   ¹ And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, ² Again, thou shalt say to the children of Israel, Whosoever he be of the children of Israel, or of the strangers that sojourn in Israel, that giveth any of his seed unto Molech; he shall surely be put to death: the people of the land shall stone him with stones. ³ And I will set my face against that man, and will cut him off from among his people; because he hath given of his seed unto Molech, to defile my sanctuary, and to profane my holy name. ⁴ And if the people of the land do any ways hide their eyes from the man, when he giveth of his seed unto Molech, and kill him not: ⁵ Then I will set my face against that man, and against his family, and will cut him off, and all that go a whoring after him, to commit whoredom with Molech, from among their people. ⁶ And the soul that turneth after such as have familiar spirits, and after wizards, to go a whoring after them, I will even set my face against that soul, and will cut him off from among his people. ⁷ Sanctify yourselves therefore, and be ye holy: for I am the LORD your God. ⁸ And ye shall keep my statutes, and do them: I am the LORD which sanctify you. ⁹ For every one that curseth his father or his mother shall be surely put to death: he hath cursed his father or his mother; his blood shall be upon him.
   ¹⁰ And the man that committeth adultery with another man's wife, even he that committeth adultery with his neighbour's wife, the adulterer and the adulteress shall surely be put to death. ¹¹ And the man that lieth with his father's wife hath uncovered his father's nakedness: both of them shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them. ¹² And if a man lie with his daughter in law, both of them shall surely be put to death: they have wrought confusion; their blood shall be upon them. ¹³ If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them. ¹⁴ And if a man take a wife and her mother, it is wickedness: they shall be burnt with fire, both he and they; that there be no wickedness among you. ¹⁵ And if a man lie with a beast, he shall surely be put to death: and ye shall slay the beast. ¹⁶ And if a woman approach unto any beast, and lie down thereto, thou shalt kill the woman, and the beast: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them. ¹⁷ And if a man shall take his sister, his father's daughter, or his mother's daughter, and see her nakedness, and she see his nakedness; it is a wicked thing; and they shall be cut off in the sight of their people: he hath uncovered his sister's nakedness; he shall bear his iniquity. ¹⁸ And if a man shall lie with a woman having her sickness, and shall uncover her nakedness; he hath discovered her fountain, and she hath uncovered the fountain of her blood: and both of them shall be cut off from among their people. ¹⁹ And thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of thy mother's sister, nor of thy father's sister: for he uncovereth his near kin: they shall bear their iniquity. ²⁰ And if a man shall lie with his uncle's wife, he hath uncovered his uncle's nakedness: they shall bear their sin; they shall die childless. ²¹ And if a man shall take his brother's wife, it is an unclean thing: he hath uncovered his brother's nakedness; they shall be childless.
   ²² Ye shall therefore keep all my statutes, and all my judgments, and do them: that the land, whither I bring you to dwell therein, spue you not out. ²³ And ye shall not walk in the manners of the nation, which I cast out before you: for they committed all these things, and therefore I abhorred them. ²⁴ But I have said unto you, Ye shall inherit their land, and I will give it unto you to possess it, a land that floweth with milk and honey: I am the LORD your God, which have separated you from other people. ²⁵ Ye shall therefore put difference between clean beasts and unclean, and between unclean fowls and clean: and ye shall not make your souls abominable by beast, or by fowl, or by any manner of living thing that creepeth on the ground, which I have separated from you as unclean. ²⁶ And ye shall be holy unto me: for I the LORD am holy, and have severed you from other people, that ye should be mine. ²⁷ A man also or woman that hath a familiar spirit, or that is a wizard, shall surely be put to death: they shall stone them with stones: their blood shall be upon them.

   ¹ And the LORD said unto Moses, Speak unto the priests the sons of Aaron, and say unto them, There shall none be defiled for the dead among his people: ² But for his kin, that is near unto him, that is, for his mother, and for his father, and for his son, and for his daughter, and for his brother. ³ And for his sister a virgin, that is nigh unto him, which hath had no husband; for her may he be defiled. ⁴ But he shall not defile himself, being a chief man among his people, to profane himself. ⁵ They shall not make baldness upon their head, neither shall they shave off the corner of their beard, nor make any cuttings in their flesh. ⁶ They shall be holy unto their God, and not profane the name of their God: for the offerings of the LORD made by fire, and the bread of their God, they do offer: therefore they shall be holy. ⁷ They shall not take a wife that is a whore, or profane; neither shall they take a woman put away from her husband: for he is holy unto his God. ⁸ Thou shalt sanctify him therefore; for he offereth the bread of thy God: he shall be holy unto thee: for I the LORD, which sanctify you, am holy. ⁹ And the daughter of any priest, if she profane herself by playing the whore, she profaneth her father: she shall be burnt with fire.
   ¹⁰ And he that is the high priest among his brethren, upon whose head the anointing oil was poured, and that is consecrated to put on the garments, shall not uncover his head, nor rend his clothes; ¹¹ Neither shall he go in to any dead body, nor defile himself for his father, or for his mother; ¹² Neither shall he go out of the sanctuary, nor profane the sanctuary of his God; for the crown of the anointing oil of his God is upon him: I am the LORD. ¹³ And he shall take a wife in her virginity. ¹⁴ A widow, or a divorced woman, or profane, or an harlot, these shall he not take: but he shall take a virgin of his own people to wife. ¹⁵ Neither shall he profane his seed among his people: for I the LORD do sanctify him.
   ¹⁶ And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, ¹⁷ Speak unto Aaron, saying, Whosoever he be of thy seed in their generations that hath any blemish, let him not approach to offer the bread of his God. ¹⁸ For whatsoever man he be that hath a blemish, he shall not approach: a blind man, or a lame, or he that hath a flat nose, or any thing superfluous, ¹⁹ Or a man that is brokenfooted, or brokenhanded, ²⁰ Or crookbackt, or a dwarf, or that hath a blemish in his eye, or be scurvy, or scabbed, or hath his stones broken; ²¹ No man that hath a blemish of the seed of Aaron the priest shall come nigh to offer the offerings of the LORD made by fire: he hath a blemish; he shall not come nigh to offer the bread of his God. ²² He shall eat the bread of his God, both of the most holy, and of the holy. ²³ Only he shall not go in unto the vail, nor come nigh unto the altar, because he hath a blemish; that he profane not my sanctuaries: for I the LORD do sanctify them. ²⁴ And Moses told it unto Aaron, and to his sons, and unto all the children of Israel.

   ³ Et ego ponam faciem meam contra illum : succidamque eum de medio populi sui, eo quod dederit de semine suo Moloch, et contaminaverit sanctuarium meum, ac polluerit nomen sanctum meum.
   ⁴ Quod si negligens populus terræ, et quasi parvipendens imperium meum, dimiserit hominem qui dedit de semine suo Moloch, nec voluerit eum occidere :

   ⁴ sed nec in principe populi sui contaminabitur.
   ⁵ Non radent caput, nec barbam, neque in carnibus suis facient incisuras.
   ⁶ Sancti erunt Deo suo, et non polluent nomen ejus : incensum enim Domini, et panes Dei sui offerunt, et ideo sancti erunt.
   ⁷ Scortum et vile prostibulum non ducent uxorem, nec eam quæ repudiata est a marito : quia consecrati sunt Deo suo,
   ⁸ et panes propositionis offerunt. Sint ergo sancti, quia et ego sanctus sum, Dominus qui sanctifico eos.
   ⁹ Sacerdotis filia si deprehensa fuerit in stupro, et violaverit nomen patris sui, flammis exuretur.

   ¹¹ et ad omnem mortuum non ingredietur omnino : super patre quoque suo et matre non contaminabitur.
   ¹² Nec egredietur de sanctis, ne polluat sanctuarium Domini, quia oleum sanctæ unctionis Dei sui super eum est. Ego Dominus.

   ¹⁴ viduam autem et repudiatam, et sordidam, atque meretricem non accipiet, sed puellam de populo suo :
   ¹⁵ ne commisceat stirpem generis sui vulgo gentis suæ : quia ego Dominus, qui sanctifico eum.
   ¹⁶ Locutusque est Dominus ad Moysen, dicens :
   ¹⁷ Loquere ad Aaron : Homo de semine tuo per familias qui habuerit maculam, non offeret panes Deo suo,
   ¹⁸ nec accedet ad ministerium ejus : si cæcus fuerit, si claudus, si parvo vel grandi, vel torto naso,
   ¹⁹ si fracto pede, si manu,
   ²⁰ si gibbus, si lippus, si albuginem habens in oculo, si jugem scabiem, si impetiginem in corpore, vel herniosus.
   ²¹ Omnis qui habuerit maculam de semine Aaron sacerdotis, non accedet offerre hostias Domino, nec panes Deo suo :
   ²² vescetur tamen panibus qui offeruntur in sanctuario,
   ²³ ita dumtaxat, ut intra velum non ingrediatur, nec accedat ad altare, quia maculam habet, et contaminare non debet sanctuarium meum. Ego Dominus qui sanctifico eos.
