Gn 43:1-10 (Darby)

¹ Et la famine pesait sur le pays.
² Et il arriva, lorsqu'ils eurent achevé de manger le blé qu'ils avaient apporté d'Égypte, que leur père leur dit : Retournez, achetez-nous un peu de vivres.
³ Et Juda lui parla, disant : Cet homme nous a expressément protesté, disant : Vous ne verrez pas ma face, à moins que votre frère ne soit avec vous.
⁴ Si tu envoies notre frère avec nous, nous descendrons, et nous t'achèterons des vivres ;
⁵ mais si tu ne l'envoies pas, nous ne descendrons pas ; car l'homme nous a dit : Vous ne verrez pas ma face, à moins que votre frère ne soit avec vous.
⁶ Et Israël dit : Pourquoi m'avez-vous fait le tort de déclarer à l'homme que vous aviez encore un frère ?
⁷ Et ils dirent : L'homme s'est soigneusement enquis de nous et de notre parenté, disant : Votre père vit-il encore ? Avez-vous [encore] un frère ? Et nous l'avons informé selon la teneur de ces paroles. Pouvions-nous donc savoir qu'il dirait : Faites descendre votre frère ?
⁸ Et Juda dit à Israël, son père : Envoie le jeune homme avec moi, et nous nous lèverons et nous irons, et nous vivrons et ne mourrons pas, ni nous, ni toi, ni nos petits enfants.
⁹ Moi, je réponds de lui ; tu le redemanderas de ma main. Si je ne te le ramène, et si je ne le présente devant ta face, je serai tous mes* jours coupable envers toi.
¹⁰ Car si nous n'avions pas tardé, certes nous serions déjà revenus deux fois.

¹ And the famine was sore in the land.
² And it came to pass, when they had eaten up the corn which they had brought out of Egypt, their father said unto them, Go again, buy us a little food.
³ And Judah spake unto him, saying, The man did solemnly protest unto us, saying, Ye shall not see my face, except your brother be with you.
⁴ If thou wilt send our brother with us, we will go down and buy thee food:
⁵ But if thou wilt not send him, we will not go down: for the man said unto us, Ye shall not see my face, except your brother be with you.
⁶ And Israel said, Wherefore dealt ye so ill with me, as to tell the man whether ye had yet a brother?
⁷ And they said, The man asked us straitly of our state, and of our kindred, saying, Is your father yet alive? have ye another brother? and we told him according to the tenor of these words: could we certainly know that he would say, Bring your brother down?
⁸ And Judah said unto Israel his father, Send the lad with me, and we will arise and go; that we may live, and not die, both we, and thou, and also our little ones.
⁹ I will be surety for him; of my hand shalt thou require him: if I bring him not unto thee, and set him before thee, then let me bear the blame for ever:
¹⁰ For except we had lingered, surely now we had returned this second time.

³ Et Juda lui répondit: Cet homme nous a expressément protesté et dit: Vous ne verrez point ma face, que votre frère ne soit avec vous.
⁴ Si tu envoies notre frère avec nous, nous descendrons en Égypte, et nous t'achèterons des vivres.
⁵ Mais si tu ne l'envoies pas, nous n'y descendrons point; car cet homme nous a dit: Vous ne verrez point ma face, que votre frère ne soit avec vous.
⁶ Et Israël dit: Pourquoi m'avez-vous fait ce tort, de déclarer à cet homme que vous aviez encore un frère?
⁷ Et ils répondirent: Cet homme s'est enquis avec soin de nous et de notre parenté, en disant: Votre père vit-il encore? Avez-vous encore un frère? Et nous le lui avons déclaré, d'après ces questions. Pouvions-nous savoir qu'il dirait: Faites descendre votre frère?
⁸ Et Juda dit à Israël, son père: Envoie l'enfant avec moi, et nous nous lèverons, et partirons; et nous vivrons et ne mourrons point, ni nous, ni toi, ni nos petits enfants.
⁹ Je réponds de lui; tu me le redemanderas. Si je ne te le ramène et ne le présente devant ta face, je serai coupable envers toi à toujours.
¹⁰ Car si nous n'avions pas différé, nous serions maintenant deux fois de retour.
