¹ Et Josué assembla toutes les tribus d'Israël à Sichem et il convoqua les Anciens d'Israël, ses chefs, ses juges et ses officiers, et ils se présentèrent devant Dieu.
² Et Josué dit à tout le peuple : Ainsi a parlé l'Eternel, le Dieu d'Israël : Vos ancêtres, Thérach, père d'Abraham et père de Nachor, ont habité au-delà du fleuve et ont servi d'autres dieux.
³ Et j'ai pris votre père Abrabam d'au-delà du fleuve ; je lui ai fait parcourir tout le pays de Canaan et j'ai rendu nombreuse sa postérité et lui ai donné Isaac.
⁴ Et j'ai donné à Isaac Jacob et Esaü, et j'ai donné à Esaü la montagne de Séir pour la posséder, et Jacob et ses fils descendirent en Egypte.
⁵ Puis j'envoyai Moïse et Aaron, et je frappai l'Egypte de ma main, ainsi que je l'ai fait au milieu d'elle, et ensuite je vous en fis sortir.
⁶ Et je fis sortir d'Egypte vos pères et vous vîntes vers la mer, et les Egyptiens poursuivirent vos pères avec des chars et de la cavalerie jusqu'à la mer Rouge.
⁷ Et ils crièrent à l'Eternel, qui mit des ténèbres entre vous et les Egyptiens, et il fit venir sur eux la mer et elle les couvrit, et vos yeux ont vu ce que je fis aux Egyptiens, et vous demeurâtes longtemps dans le désert.
⁸ Et je vous menai au pays des Amorrhéens qui habitaient au-delà du Jourdain ; et ils combattirent contre vous, et je les livrai entre vos mains et vous prîtes possession de leur pays, et je les exterminai de devant vous.
⁹ Et Balak, fils de Tsippor, roi de Moab, se leva et fit la guerre à Israël, et il fit appeler Balaam, fils de Béor, pour vous maudire ;
¹⁰ et je ne voulus point écouter Balaam, et il vous bénit, et je vous délivrai de sa main.
¹¹ Et vous passâtes le Jourdain et vîntes à Jéricho ; et les hommes de Jéricho combattirent contre vous, et je livrai entre vos mains les Amorrhéens, les Phéréziens, les Cananéens, les Héthiens, les Guirgasiens, les Héviens et les Jébusiens.
¹² Et j'envoyai devant vous les frelons qui les chassèrent de devant vous [comme j'avais fait] les deux rois des Amorrhéens ; ce ne fut ni par ton épée, ni par ton arc !
¹³ Je vous donnai une terre que vous n'aviez point labourée, des villes que vous n'aviez point bâties ; et vous y avez habité, et vous avez mangé du fruit de vignes et d'oliviers que vous n'aviez point plantés.
¹⁴ Et maintenant craignez l'Eternel, servez-le en intégrité et en vérité, et ôtez les dieux que vos pères ont servis au-delà du fleuve et en Egypte, et servez l'Eternel.

¹ And Joshua gathered all the tribes of Israel to Shechem, and called for the elders of Israel, and for their heads, and for their judges, and for their officers; and they presented themselves before God.
² And Joshua said unto all the people, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Your fathers dwelt on the other side of the flood in old time, even Terah, the father of Abraham, and the father of Nachor: and they served other gods.
³ And I took your father Abraham from the other side of the flood, and led him throughout all the land of Canaan, and multiplied his seed, and gave him Isaac.
⁴ And I gave unto Isaac Jacob and Esau: and I gave unto Esau mount Seir, to possess it; but Jacob and his children went down into Egypt.
⁵ I sent Moses also and Aaron, and I plagued Egypt, according to that which I did among them: and afterward I brought you out.
⁶ And I brought your fathers out of Egypt: and ye came unto the sea; and the Egyptians pursued after your fathers with chariots and horsemen unto the Red sea.
⁷ And when they cried unto the LORD, he put darkness between you and the Egyptians, and brought the sea upon them, and covered them; and your eyes have seen what I have done in Egypt: and ye dwelt in the wilderness a long season.
⁸ And I brought you into the land of the Amorites, which dwelt on the other side Jordan; and they fought with you: and I gave them into your hand, that ye might possess their land; and I destroyed them from before you.
⁹ Then Balak the son of Zippor, king of Moab, arose and warred against Israel, and sent and called Balaam the son of Beor to curse you:
¹⁰ But I would not hearken unto Balaam; therefore he blessed you still: so I delivered you out of his hand.
¹¹ And you went over Jordan, and came unto Jericho: and the men of Jericho fought against you, the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Girgashites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites; and I delivered them into your hand.
¹² And I sent the hornet before you, which drave them out from before you, even the two kings of the Amorites; but not with thy sword, nor with thy bow.
¹³ And I have given you a land for which ye did not labour, and cities which ye built not, and ye dwell in them; of the vineyards and oliveyards which ye planted not do ye eat.
¹⁴ Now therefore fear the LORD, and serve him in sincerity and in truth: and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the flood, and in Egypt; and serve ye the LORD.

¹ Congregavitque Josue omnes tribus Israël in Sichem, et vocavit majores natu, ac principes, et judices, et magistros : steteruntque in conspectu Domini,
² et ad populum sic locutus est : Hæc dicit Dominus Deus Israël : Trans fluvium habitaverunt patres vestri ab initio, Thare pater Abraham et Nachor : servieruntque diis alienis.
³ Tuli ergo patrem vestrum Abraham de Mesopotamiæ finibus, et adduxi eum in terram Chanaan, multiplicavique semen ejus,
⁴ et dedi ei Isaac : illique rursum dedi Jacob et Esau. E quibus, Esau dedi montem Seir ad possidendum : Jacob vero et filii ejus descenderunt in Ægyptum.
⁵ Misique Moysen et Aaron, et percussi Ægyptum multis signis atque portentis.
⁶ Eduxique vos et patres vestros de Ægypto, et venistis ad mare : persecutique sunt Ægyptii patres vestros cum curribus et equitatu, usque ad mare Rubrum.
⁷ Clamaverunt autem ad Dominum filii Israël : qui posuit tenebras inter vos et Ægyptios, et adduxit super eos mare, et operuit eos. Viderunt oculi vestri cuncta quæ in Ægypto fecerim, et habitastis in solitudine multo tempore :
⁸ et introduxi vos in terram Amorrhæi, qui habitabat trans Jordanem. Cumque pugnarent contra vos, tradidi eos in manus vestras, et possedistis terram eorum, atque interfecistis eos.
⁹ Surrexit autem Balac filius Sephor rex Moab, et pugnavit contra Israëlem. Misitque et vocavit Balaam filium Beor, ut malediceret vobis :
¹⁰ et ego nolui audire eum, sed e contrario per illum benedixi vobis, et liberavi vos de manu ejus.
¹¹ Transistisque Jordanem, et venistis ad Jericho. Pugnaveruntque contra vos viri civitatis ejus, Amorrhæus et Pherezæus, et Chananæus, et Hethæus, et Gergezæus, et Hevæus, et Jebusæus : et tradidi illos in manus vestras.
¹² Misique ante vos crabrones : et ejeci eos de locis suis, duos reges Amorrhæorum, non in gladio nec in arcu tuo.
¹³ Dedique vobis terram, in qua non laborastis, et urbes quas non ædificastis, ut habitaretis in eis : vineas, et oliveta, quæ non plantastis.
¹⁴ Nunc ergo timete Dominum, et servite ei perfecto corde atque verissimo : et auferte deos quibus servierunt patres vestri in Mesopotamia et in Ægypto, ac servite Domino.
